bombe32A Super GT car is a car that races in the Japanese Super GT class in real life. That is, in GT5, the Lexus SC430 race cars, the Nissan GT-R race cars and the Honda NSX race cars in the new dealerships. The Toyota YellowHat could be considered Super GT too, I suppose. Then there are the Japanese GT Championship cars which are the older ones. Those include the Toyota Supra race cars, older NSX race cars, the Lamborghini Nomad and various Nissans. There is also a Super GT 300 class and a lower JGTC class too.

The touring cars is a very limited bunch of cars. The CLK touring, Vauxhall / Opel Astra and Calibras, BMW M3 GTR race car, Mercedes 190 touring and more. The fastest of these is definately the CLK (not to be confused with the CLK-LM!!).
Is the BMW M3 GTR race car a touring car?
I always thought there's a 320 touring car from BMW.
Differences between touring cars and sports cars
For the casual observer, there can be a great deal of confusion when it comes to classifying closed-wheel racing cars as 'touring cars' or 'sports cars' (also known as GT cars). In truth, there is often very little technical difference between the two classifications, and nomenclature is often a matter of tradition.
In general, however, touring cars are based upon family cars (such as hatchbacks, saloons or estates), while GT racing cars are based upon more powerful and expensive sports cars, such as Ferraris or Lamborghinis. Underneath the bodywork, a touring car is often more closely related to its road-going origins, using many original components and mountings, while a top-flight GT car is often a purpose-built tube-frame racing chassis underneath a cosmetic body shell. Many touring car series, such as the BTCC and the now-defunct JTCC distinguish themselves from sports car racing by featuring front-wheel drive, four-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive cars with smaller engines.
However, while touring cars have a lower technical level than sports cars in general, there are notable exceptions to the rule. The Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) is considered to be one of the most technologically advanced racing series in the world, with cars that, underneath their four-door shells, are more purebred racing machines than most FIA-GT vehicles.
The 320i is too slow to keep up with them, so it's in its own class - which makes it completely pointless to actually have the car in the game.
But where are all the other touring cars then.. That's my point, I know the M3 isn't officially a touring car, but in the game it's classed as one.
Because the 320i is no more a DTM car than the M3 GTR is.The 320i is too slow to keep up with them
Then you should have posted in NON GT5 general car discussionso we're talking about what the "game" classes as a touring car or reality here? I was only talking about reality.
Then you should have posted in NON GT5 general car discussion.

Yep if you want to talk about real cars you should NOT take the topic off track (high jack the thread) and start the topic in the NON GT5 section. So you're saying I should have posted a reply to this thread in another subforum??? You SURE about that?? The OP seemed to want clarification in THIS thread.
Prefer, The Vauxhall astra Touring car to the A4. still would have liked FORD to have had a model included.Mercedes CLK is the best. The Audi A4 is also quite good, especially on the Ring.

Some weird discussions going on here.
GT means Grand Tourer, in other words; GT cars are also Touring cars.
Why is that so hard to understand?
The only thing is: there are like 10 big Grand Tourer/ Touring series, each with their own set of rules.
The Japaneese SuperGT is a Touring series, so those cars are all Touring Cars, but the rules of SuperGT are much different than for instance DTM so a SuperGT can;t enter the DTM.
The Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) cars are also Touringcars, but they would not be allowed to enter .. lets say.. the WTCC.
The cars from the World TouringCar Championship (WTCC) are also Touringcars, but they would not be allowed to enter the SuperGT etc etc etc.
They are all Touring cars !
What I would like to see in GT5 is an option when creating an online game room, where it says' DTM cars only'.
So if you select that option, only the cars are allowed that were allowed in the DTM series.
Also a 'SuperGT' only' box, so when you select that, only cars from SuperGT would be allowed.
Takes away discussion about which cars are allowed and should be fairly simple to implement. I'd rather have these kind of improvements to the game than more premium cars or another version of a Mazda MX5.
