Manufacterers Race 6

With this track's layout, I was hoping I could have abit more leg room to try and wrassle the RC F GR.4 around. Sadly, its still a damn pig to drive no matter where I race it (which suddenly makes me wish there was a something done to this damn thing as its seems even more difficult to drive. For qualifying, just waited it out and went when a gap presented itself. On a faster flying lap, I got a penalty just for barely getting a wheel on that curbing in the banked corner (thanks complainers to taking away the only way I could get the car to turn..). Started 16th and when the race got going, it was a huge Cluck mothering cluster of start and stop traffic in Turn 1 and 2. Race was just awful as this car either wants to get loose or not turn for no man. Made a stop and got to 12th, then 11th and wouldn't you know, got another penalty for again just barely touching the same part of the track (I can just hear Eduardo Fritas in my headset now..). Had to burn that off and lost my chance at getting a free top 10 from a car ahead having a penalty, resulting no gain of points AND despite my S rating glowing Blue, still a B Driver. And to think the next track is Willow Springs. Think I'll just take a swim in battery acid instead knowing this car is more indecisive then a schizophrenic alcoholic on a sugar rush.

Nations cup: Qualifying was absolutely terrible. I made a very decent lap with full tank (03.4) but wasted the last 2 hotlaps on low fuel, only improving on one tenth. Starting on 13th i had a long way to go, and i was making it. Until, in lap 10, when i just jumped to 7th right behind 6th that had a penalty, i got punted out of the track. So frustrating, in such an important race. Windfire finished in 5th place, and i think i wouldve finished in front of him because of his penalty. Lost 1k points on that bad move made on me (Couldve earned 3.3k, won 2.2).

Manufacturers cup: the 24SS slot crashed so we had a mini 20SS race on the last slot. Qualifying was bad again, race also not great. Wasted opportunity.

Sometimes living in Florida sucks. Just got kicked out of the middle of my Manufacturers race due to a lightning strike briefly knocking out the power. Yeah baby, yeah!

Keith.

Heh. Paranoia would've kicked in and I'd have unplugged everything if lightning was that close.

I was in your manu race but I started mid pack and was cheering you on in my head as I saw you up there on the list. I'm stuck with Nissan and the tracks this season generally chew up the tyres and maggiore was no exception. So when my fronts were worn I had to brake significantly earlier (for stopping distance and understeer through the corners) and got bumped off a couple of times. Finished way down the order and had to regain some SR in the "dailies" before hopping into the nations race 2 hours later because of T24.
Thanks for cheering on me! :)
And, sorry that I haven't lived up to the racecraft I usually show. I'll definitely make up for it next time!

Sorry to hear about your race. Big Willow might be a nice platform for the GT-R- its stability will certainly help it keep itself on track. Good luck for the next race :)

I don't know if anyone else finished the race without changing the tyres in Nations Cup race but it didn't work, at least with Ford GT. I didn't make big mistakes at the beginning of the race and fuel saving it wasn't a problem (changing to map 3 in the hill was enough) but in the last 5 minutes of the race the tyres were done, so the car was absolutely undriveable and I spun twice and finished 13th (A-S) after being fighting for Top 10 during the race. it could have been better but I'm not very disappointed considering my strategy was wrong and this is one of my worst tracks
The Ford was at a disadvantage in the 15 minutes races. A pitstop would kill any chances for a win.

I think it was the better choice for the 25 minutes races though, as everyone had to make a pitstop anyway.

Nations 12th and Manu 11th.

In Manu I simply could not be better.

In Nations in lap 7 a battle went out bad that both of us landed in the sand. I was kicked so far away from the track that I even didnt try to drive back to the asphalt because I expected to be brought there automaticly. But I wasnt. Lost huge time driving back to track.

After all, frustrating results, because I did training much this time, but its only my fault.

For Nations though, I qualified 9th, finished 7th using the Ford GT LM without stopping.

An Aussie in another Ford GT LM pitted for tyres, and he finished 5th!

One moment that I want to share is that, if you block someone, you have a higher chance to get punted off, as demonstrated by my blocking attempts ending up costing me by getting punted by a Japanese in a Viper. He left the lobby after the race without sorry...

Before that, I watched the Nations T24SS Asia/Oceania region stream by @Sidawg2 and I noticed three oddballs in that race, which are LMP_TLallave, mfrayyan and far_kew_racing, the latter of which I ended up seeing in the 2nd timeslot of the Manufacturer Series. One noted absence is saika159-, who is supposed to represent Hong Kong, but Lallave from the Philippines ended up representing HK instead.

Thanks for watching!

Did an average job overall really, qualified 16th cos i crashed at the top on my hot lap but i was only ever going to qualify around 12th or so.

Chose to run the Lancer and it was stable all race but predictably got stuck behind a Ford because it didn't have enough legs on the straight. But got 12th and decent points.

It begs the question for the next race whether I will do the top 24 SS for the GR2 cars, or whether I should run a regular lobby. Running a regular lobby without some of the elite guys might net me 2000-2300 points, whereas running SuperStar and running around in 12th again would give me less. Food for thought anyway.

Have got to 10,000 points and that may be enough to qualify in the Asian region, but not counting any chickens.

I think the overriding thing for me is, regardless of whether I qualify or not, racing these races is so much fun and will leave a weird void in my Wednesdays and Saturdays when its all said and done.

I remember that I got 811 pts in Manu, but in the list on the GTS-site I have only gotten 638 pts.

Did anybody else have experienced a mismatch like this?

Same here. Thought there was a problem with my lobby because at the end of the race, the total race time was not shown and the gap to the race winner was +1 lap for everyone.

edit: I only did the nations cup race.

Has anybody quit the race at any point in time? What happens is GTS recalculates the points distribution table post-race, this time accounting for the lower Strength of Field given that some people have left the lobby

And one question for @Tidgney here; why you chose to use your old name for the GT World Tour and your Twitter account, while you have your new name on your PSN? Should it be just either Martin Hefferon Grady or Martin Grady Hefferon? There is a middle name box in the Name settings on the Account Management section.

I just haven't got round to changing it, that's all :). When you change your name in the UK there's only 1 legal obligation you have to do which is your driving licence, everything else is fine and can be done whenever if you want to as your name is just an alias. The only time it's an issue is if you are trying to represent somebody else :P! PD already know about it anyway as one of the organisers in Germany said "I didn't recognise your name at first, what was with the name change". So the story goes on :P!

Ah ok that makes sense. Yes, there where only 18 drivers I think, but for sure not 20

Nations.... Well I was 1 of the lucky 3 from the UK to get in to the Nations Top 24 superstars. It's a combo I really didn't like, there was so much risk on the mountain for not much reward for the lap. I got a 5 second penalty for no reason what so ever at the start so I got 8th in the end even with others mistakes and 2.9k points which helps me massively.
Manufacturers well I wasn't even expecting to get into the Nations so hadn't prep'd a lot for it but why prepare for a race where your guaranteed to be near the back? Had some fun racing at least with a few guys and the PUG train in the middle of the race was hilarious! But group 4 does not belong in the manufacturers cup... The group is so unbalanced it's ridiculous. Make it just group 3 and I think you'll see a better championship because it's at least a bit more balanced!

With regards to the top 24 though, it really shouldn't exist until maybe the last round if they really want 1... Or even after the championship as a demo of the top 24. The fact it's deciding championships this early on is ridiculous to be honest. Make it a media slot if you want to cover the championship then people have a choice, don't make it decide an entire championship. The fact DR was the basis AND there's a cap doesn't help, 5+ UK guys (No idea of the exact number, think it's closer to 10) have it all cap'd and there's no information on choice after that is also silly as it means they then can't attend other slots due to the length of those particular events. If there's no Cap it makes a tiny bit more sense, still I don't think Top 24 should exist period.

Thanks for everyone tuning in to the stream, always fun as always and as we said on there, the PUG Train was fantastically hilarious :D!

Good stuff!

I watched the replay and I think you got a penalty because you braked a bit earlier. You braked near the 100 mark when you weren't carrying enough speed (as you do when doing a normal lap). Watch the brake lights in Alexony, he braked way after the 100 mark and he didn't hit anyone. This miss judge caused a hit chain behind, everyone behind touched each other, that's the carnage there, on me, mthomas, derek, oscaro_ugo, jomas, atho, etc.

But mate, don't take me wrong... it is what it is, **** happens, it's a top24 race, the pressure is above normal (you're heart rate is at 120 starting the race :)). It happens to all of us, we just need to learn from this, be careful at the starts but to not exaggerate to not cause these incidents. I spun right after that alone for no good reason... Lightning, who I never see making mistakes, did the same alone.

I did what everyone should do at turn 1, this is the problem with this mindset that I get frustrated with... If you go full race speed into turn 1 on any start you're going to get carnage, brake early and judge accordingly. Notice how I was half braking all the way to the corner to make sure I didn't go into the driver in front and that gap did close. Only reason there was carnage here was the lag spike that wiped out some people. Watch it at normal pace (Time stamped), check the distance to the driver in front and check radar everyone slows and is around the same distance...

I have respect for you but blaming me for that incident is a bit silly...

Ist way simpler than this - the Penalty System works as follows:

IF you touch an enemy and he have an incident AFTER this (Spinning, leaving the track) YOU are on fault (wherever this is Right or not) and you got Penalty.

This has changed to the "old" System, where both Players "touched" got a Penalty.

In this case, he touched you and spinn out (because of the car behind him) - the System believes, that the touching from you caused (also) the icident --> 5 sec. Penalty

Good in Theory, bad in Special situations

I like you and also respect you mate, as I said don't take me wrong, it happens, no one is perfect and It's really hard to judge the first corner, today you, tomorrow me, I'm just analysing what happened. I wouldn't say it's silly since the images talk by themselves. In the radar everyone is getting closer to you, while you keep too much distance to the front car, even with caution people didn't want to back so much. The mindset shouldn't be go full speed but it's not definitely the other way around too. Because that will create the hitting chain behind.

We can just learn from this.

He can keep whatever distance he wants.

You are wrong.

Speaking of the cars, I'm glad that people started using the GTI VGT Gr.3, as now @mthomas_95 used it in that Nations T24SS and GoriRaichi used the car for the "Weekly" Race leaderboards for Gr.3 at Maggiore GP. Guess the EMEA drivers should start paying attention to the FT-1 VGT Gr.3 perhaps? Round 8 of Manufacturers at Monza should prove that, as that is the site of my maiden FIA victory with the Red Bulls during Season 1 when I was still a B/S driver, and a horrifying Gr.4 Nations race during Season 2.

mate this is racing not a sunday walk and normal road behaviour is quite different to this
Of course and as your behind its your perogative to avoid contact, or are you expecting some biblical parting of the sea to clear the way for you, mate.

Qualified 4th in the Nations top 24 last night with an OK lap. Was hoping for a low :02 to be safe and fortunately it put me in a good position for the race.

I fuel saved as much as possible in the first stint whilst trying to keep in the front 3's slipstream. I didn't have the pace on the downhill twisty bits which made it a bit more difficult. I jumped Lightning and maatu in the pits on lap 6 but Coque jumped me.

During the next few laps I'm pressured from Lightning and I then pull off an overtake on Coque. 2 laps to go and Fuvaros is up front but makes a mistake at the top of the hill and gets a penalty. I catch up to him by the end of the last lap whilst trying to save fuel as I'd used up a load trying to defend on the long straights. I cross the line 1st 2 tenths ahead of Fuvaros as he serves his penalty. :)

An amazing race and I was buzzing for hours after! The highlights will sure make a good watch. :D

It does but I'm not slamming on which is the point I was making, half braking to the corner. If you notice I leave a gap on the right purely for this reason. Everyone in this lobby is quick if they all brake where alexony brakes there's a crash, ye you could say I broke early but I was half braking to the corner me, and the 2 behind all were making that corner fine, the lag spike caused the contact. People even further back in the field need to brake earlier than 100m and right at the back even earlier than that and not just because of speed but because of the concertina effect. We've also got full tanks of fuel and cold tyres (Why I go slightly off turn 2). If further back in the field people are trying to brake later then it's there fault not mine or the cars in front. The exception to this is if I slammed on and basically stopped on the corner then yes it would be my fault.

Lets look at it though;

Rolling start gives me and the 2 behind a disadvantage as we are rolling up the hill, I also think it had us slightly in a dodgy place in terms of rpms. At this point there's a single line of cars up front. I could have gone to the right to take that line but I'm very well aware this corner causes problems all the time in all races both in real life and virtually so I stay to the left to maintain my line and stop any bashing or dive bombs on the inside which is what this corner promotes. This obviously means that behind me now there are 2 rows of cars.

Alexony brakes late here but he gets it right, he significantly closes the gap to the car in front. IF he was closer to that car he could not brake where he did and he would have had to reduce it. Anyway to my braking, notice I go half brake first this is literally to cover my self if I've braked early or braked late and allows me to judge what I need to do. I go to 100% to close off the speed a little (You can hear the tyre screech) as otherwise I wouldn't make the corner and then go back to half braking to make sure the car is settled and I make the corner. At this point Athos lag (Think its atho not got the playstation on to confirm) hits the person to my right and the person to the left at the same time. If anyone was relying on that car for braking they'd have out broke themselves as well (I can't confirm that as I've not looked).

Blaming a competitor for braking what 10m earlier than a car in front but half braking (Which basically nullifies it) for causing collisions behind is not right nor fair. It's up to the driver behind to race clean. My NUMBER 1 priority in any race is to race clean, as it should be for everybody.

The fact the game does a weird rolling start here (4 hours long), nobody can truly practice the start, cold tyres, full weight everyone should be ready to brake at any given point from 100m forward (Actually earlier than this but you can see the board), but the game doesn't help itself without offering official FIA practice races (Which would help).

So I did both races last night, though I didn't have much practice for either

First did Nations, qualified P7, was struggling with T3 through quali, and the lap wasn't the greatest so was relatively happy with it. Chose the Lexus for this one to try the no stop, though I wasn't sure if I could actually pull it off as I hadn't done any fuel practice. Managed to just keep out of trouble for the race, probably could've fought harder at some points but managed to get P2. And in the end I probably saved too much fuel

I literally only had 5 laps of practice for manufacturers, and something came up as I entered, meaning I had to miss quali and I only just made it for the start of the race. At first I was trying to overtake my way through the field but my pace wasn't exactly great and so I decided to just hold back, save some fuel and gain positions in the pitstops. Was around P12 once all the pitstops had happened had some nice battles in the second stint but in the end it was only P14 after penalties. Not the best result but it was a fun race.

Edit: With my start (4:00 on the video) I sort of did what Tidgney did as in not going all out in the braking zone though I was lucky the driver in front saw me coming and left room so kudos to him

The rolling start in this T24 manufacturer race, oh my days. We literally had months of test seasons where they basically changed nothing, and then they decide to switch things up when the real ones come around? These starts and the 75k/99 fiasco are inexcusable really.

Problem might be in American FIA Top 24 is beeing too wide range of countries to make connection not smooth and laggy. They've drivers from Canada to Chile in same lobby. I think PD couldn't figure it out to make that connections run smoothly and disconnects happen for that.

I guess it was easier to do with the Lexus, anyway no-stopping was clearly the only competitive strategy. I nearly caught you at the finish line, not by about half a second.

As I mentioned in the post-race chat, your internet connection to the server was very bad, which was making it difficult for others racing around you. I don't remember if it was specifically you, but at least one car with a single red bar connection was wildly jumping around the track in about one second intervals. Basically impossible for others to pass or race side-by-side like that without getting involved in an incident, especially on a narrow track like Bathurst.

Note that I'm just saying this FYI in general. I have mostly nobody but myself to blame for my rather disappointing result (though at least not quite as bad as the previous round) yesterday. Although it started with spinning out after contact in the first corner of the second(?) lap, let's say diplomatically that although I meant to leave space for the car on the inside, maybe I didn't manage to leave enough. Anyway, that left me 19th and last, and I lost hope at that point. Spun out again later, due to pushing too hard and running wide through the last corner. Finally, due to my thoughts wandering off during the long downhill straight, missed the braking point and went into the gravel. :banghead:

Moral of the story: Never give up! If I had just continued normally after the first spin, and avoided at least one of the additional mistakes, I probably had a good shot at finishing around top 10 at least.

The internet was never designed for this kind of traffic. Their code should take this into account and handle the inevitable packet loss or delayed/out of order delivery appropriately.

Blue screens are serious bugs. But some disconnects may be legitimate e.g. no packets received over x time period, but without some better error messages we will never know.

So yeah in my mind PD need to invest in better network code and maybe servers but dont expect it to solve all the problems as your data still has to travel through loads of networks PD has no control over to get to PDs servers.
