Yep, I love the excitement of live qualifying. I think that is the one aspect that got me hooked on FIA races. Alternatively, I would very much prefer longer race formats.

Hi all. I did 2 image captures directly from my stream and akagis yesterday. I will let the pictures speak for themselves:

I am in viper, these are lap3 RM tyres with around 25% fuel aprox left. In my humble opinion I didn't have any unnecessary slides, spins or anything similar that would ruin the tyres more, just pushed to the limit as much as I could, same as akagi did in his early stint:

These are his tyres on the Beetle, just before he enters the pit box with around 70% fuel left, which mean he had more weight all the time compared to my stint in viper:

It's worth to mention as well that Viper is at least 1sec off the pace on Bathurst now as well! (I am not sure what pace Beetle has though)
This is just comparison between Beetle and Viper. I am sure there are plenty of more cars with the same issue....since PD will probably insist on races in the future with different tyres sets and highly increased tyre wear, I would say this is a big problem that they need to take care of asap.

I mostly just meant for the exhibitions, you need the live qualifying for the real championship racing. Getting rid of qualifying is the only option to get longer races other than changing the time slots since the races are perfectly timed now to be able to enter Nations directly after a Manufacturers race

People knew what you meant. It would still force top level players to put many hours in purely on 'qualifying', because as soon as one top level driver spends ages getting the perfect lap, others will follow suit to have to challenge that driver.

Yeah I like qualifying, puts the pressure on.

Anyway my race from last night

Did I deserve my penalty? IMO I couldn't do anything different. Was surprised people were doing no stoppers and so many people as well. They couldn't keep it on the track though so were easy meat.

Totally messed qualifying up as well, did such a slow second out lap that I missed the time to start another lap by 5 seconds or so, should've definitely been further up the grid.

It’s basically exactly as we had before but with tyres instead of fuel. Anything that had pace whilst short shifting or just good on fuel was massively exaggerated and saved way in excess of cars that were bad on fuel. Anything good on tyres now will just be way better, again exaggerated because of x15 wear. Pretty anything MR (except 911) will just eat it’s tyres after a couple laps.

Yes and no, because with fuel in play, the cars that were slower on pace or weaker on power would in most cases waste less fuel as well, which led to shorter pit box times for those. Here, you easily have cars that are slower on pace by a lot compared to top5 current picks, but also waste tyres more, regardless of being slower pace wise. Viper is FR so it's not just MR cars in question.

How about give the drivers enough fuel to do half a race or so, then make the refuel time the minimum so no one can gain an advantage from fuel saving? Also have tyre wear so you could go without changing tyres but bad enough where someone who does change tyres has an advantage at the end?

There is an option to force a mandatory pitstop, just enable that and keep tyres and fuel on x1. It's actually worse for more inconsistent drivers because they spin and their tyres get nuked, it's damaging the racing in my opinion at the moment :(!

I agree it is ruining the races but with that setup it’s just a sprint race why bother with a pit stop? I personally still want to see an element of strategy, tyre choice and fuel for me.

They make it very hard to balance when the races are so short, would be much better only having two compounds. Personally I hope they introduce the mandatory compound choice we’ve seen in the regionals, as long as they have the right wear rate.

I would like to see fuel added back in as well, should help balance it altogether but perhaps that’s wishful thinking!

To be fair there's still strategy even with x1 and a mandatory pit (Traffic etc.) but yes you're right, what's the point in having a pit stop at all in a sprint race? I love the idea of strategy but the massive multiplier is just nuts. 2 Tyre compounds still then has the issue that the softer one will be used until the 2nd to last lap or even last lap the minute your reduce that multiplier, so that strategy then goes out the window to. I honestly don't know what the answer is? I do like the idea of a mandatory pit stop though as it does add strategy but lets the undercut and over cut be viable (Minus the multiplier that is).

Manufacturers at the moment is so off balanced due to the tyre issue, it's more extreme at some circuits than others but that's still an issue. Nations is a little more acceptable as it's more 1 make based so it's more down to what you do, although it still doesn't help those that spin. I mean if you spin and it would normally take a lap out the tyres x14 now takes 14 laps out the tyres and you're now done for the race, do it again and you effectively take even more off! You shouldn't be punished that severely that a spin forces an extra pit stop as well to double the penalty.

. I honestly don't know what the answer is?

Longer races.

Strategy becomes what tyre to start on, how long to run each.

Longer races would reduce tyre wear multipliers.

So it becomes the case of where can they save time.

  1. Warm up not needed.
  2. No need to introduce everyone the way they do.
I can definitely see room for 40 mins of racing.

Why not reduce the race time slot options by 1 time slot and make each race longer than 17-20 minutes as Rono_thomas suggested? I think longer races would be awesome! Having 1 less race time slot could also increase points for the drivers fighting for the championship and create more rooms for drivers with common DR. I understand this concept may segregate some drivers due to time restrictions, but could be a viable option.

Maybe that's the answer, there must be a reason they aren't longer though especially as everyone wants a weekly race which is an endurance race to as a choice?

I imagine some people might not be able to do longer races due to whatever reason and the nations to manufacturer race (If you do 2 splits in a row) would be quite tight then as well. If 2 splits ever crossed over I imagine the server would get nuked potentially? No idea what the set up is though. I have always wondered what the warm up is for though as you never quite get time to do 1 lap, I'd understand it a little more if you got a few laps in. I wouldn't want to remove the introduction on the grid though I really like that, seeing every ones liveries etc. I wouldn't mind longer races though :)!

I'm with you, I love the intro! The intro gives me time to breath before the race, and it gives you an idea of who is where on the grid.

I'm also a livery geek, so it's always fun to see what folks showed up with.

Haha it sure is, I've seem some quality liveries from people I wouldn't have seen in the race in that introduction! As you say as well time to breath, think and finish my cup of tea !

Remember stay hydrated haha!

Yes, I love seeing the grid walk that is in every FIA race, so that I can look at their liveries (stock, works custom, original, Itasha, EMS Team, etc.) and that gave me inspiration for my dream grid. Speaking if which, here it is!

Anyone tried Manu. At Brands yet? Made a public practice lobby last night...lol .Tire wear set to x10 with soft and med.compounds. OMG was only getting like 2 laps on SC...and 4 max on MC with the evo. ran 3 races i had to x3 pit every time. Some were stretching it to 2 pit stops but wow im pretty good with evo there mabye within a sec or so so of top guys but dang...lol. I know the tire wear is terrible on the evo but...wow bad fuel mileage terrible tire wear..no top end speed...gimme a break..lol

I absolutely want longer races, 40 minutes would be perfect I think and should just fit them in (I would happily do an hour or more but I think 40 mins would appeal to the majority).

Brands hatch is a prime example this week, I’m in the Aston which isn’t great at this track anyway. One lap pace I can do 1.27s TT in it so not to far off top pace (for the car at least). But the tyres last two laps on soft not much more on mediums, when you’ve got a car bad at a track it’s slow anyway but with tyre wear it makes it even slower, which in turn makes the tyre wear even worse. You can’t even make up the difference with more stops bacause it’s not really fast with fresh tyres! I tried a different car it was night and day, seconds a lap faster easy one stop on soft.

So probably not going to enter this race just not enjoyable and doubtful whether I will bother with the rest seems this is the theme for this exhibition season.

I'd love longer races to, to be honest as it means 1 mistake isn't the end of it all and it also means that less dive-bombs will happen I imagine :D! I'm assuming there's a reason behind it! But I feel you with tyres I'm driving for Audi so FWD TT, although that car is far better than the RCZ Gr.4 car! That even before the crazy multiplier was the worst car on tyres, I couldn't even imagine driving that thing now!
