Damn, I decide to return to the FIA races today, and I am rusty as hell :irked: I was in the same race as @mclarenLB and @Tidgney and I was all over the place, ending 19th :dunce: (but you already know, because I was clearly on stream :sly:)

Also I decided to finally make a race with MANUAL shift, and on pace I was clearly better than with auto shift :D I hope to get better and not to cause anymore trouble :)

Man. Series coming up next

Edit: Low split lobby for the other race, so nothing really to say, got 5th and and almost 600 points :) First race with the PUG train :sly:

Tonights stream isn't staying up, the McLaren snap oversteered very violently and killed me near the start of manufacturers, and Nations was a pretty meh race where I practiced a total of 9 minutes because the clocks in the UK moved forward meaning I have to rush to get online on Wednesday nights :(

Resulted in a pretty meh stream with no real highlights...

I've sacked the Group 3 McLaren btw, not using it again, all it does is steal my DR every time I drive it

I tried streaming after a successful daily races stream last sunday, but today it didn't work well. The quality was terrible, it didnt save all race, and I ended up deleting the Nations race, that was not watchable after all that. I guess streaming is a no go at the moment. Will keep uploading the races afterwards.

Talking a bit about the race, as some might know, i'm in transition period (going from pad to wheel). I think i already have a decent hotlapping pace, but race consistency is non existent. I cant go full pace on the race at all, if I do I'll just make losts of mistakes. Thats what happened in Fuji, managed 1st stint well, but in the 2nd sting, after getting a pen for cutting turn 2 I lost concentration and managed to get pens in all remaining laps. Had a controlled win in my hands, finished second.

Manu was better. Had decent race pace, not taking too much risks after that Fuji race. Qualy was terrible, in these low tier rooms, is so hard to get a clean qualy lap. You give people one straight of clean track and you somehow catch them midlap :p . I really need to work on race consistency, that's my biggest struggle atm.

Thanks to daylight savings time ending in the States, the last slot is now one hour earlier. This is a huge problem for people living on the West Coast and needs to be corrected. 6 pm local time is too early.

My first FIA races after Americas Regionals went pretty well. I was alwasy going to struggle at Fuji regardless and my 5th qualifying spot proved it. Caught a few breaks that let me steal a podium. Dirty air is such a pain as in having to fuel save.

The time slot issue bit me for Manufacturer's. I had to rush through my dinner and hop into what I thought was the 2nd to last time slot. I did a few time trial laps the day before but zero laps with tire wear and no clue on strategy. I pulled off a shocking pole and I did a one-stop using mediums with the prototype Lexus. Had a small scare on one lap but it was an otherwise strong showing considering I jumped in cold.

Decreasing the slots from 5 to 3-4, making races at least 40mins and pushing the time slots to 19-24 for all time zones would work much better for most people. (this way ppl that work 2nd or 3rd shift would get a chance in participating as well). The races in general are way too short and with less slots you would have more balanced lobbies.

You know that bit in the Nations race where you come into the pits after 6 laps, only 2 secs down on the leader, and you don't pay attention to the fuel so you press the x button twice quickly? Then you realise that you actually needed to put fuel in? Bugger. Oh well 2nd pit stop on lap 9.

Would have been fighting for the win, but instead got 5th - Such is life :)

Would say that the difference between the top tier and the 2nd tier is pretty big. My quali time got me 3rd in my race, but would have gotten 17th in Tidgeney's race. Think I have some practice to do.

Manufacturers was the standard midfield mess after messing up qualifying and only getting 12th. Every time I managed to get some clear air then someone would nudge me just enough to make sure I dropped back into the mire. Hits probably only cost me about 5 secs, but that was the difference between 5th and 10th.

How did I end up doing the exact same thing?:lol::lol:
Though i was around P14 at the time rather than P2

Nice Nation race yesterday , perhaps the Honda wasn't the best car in the middle of 90% of Nissan, but there was a strange bug at the start that could have done more destruction than this.
I was able to race Manufacturer for the first time because of my job finish earlier this time, the option 1 stop racing hard tires was working very well , a long time i was not sticking to the front pack with top drivers , but i was rammed out lap 5 and lost a few positions because of this.
Anyway , i'm happy with my driving , almost no fault during the 2 races , gaining consistency , this is my main goal now.

First time I’ve made the podium on the front page of sport mode.

Only got there because Ebrahim got the worst possible DC, after the finish of the race, after he won. And ended up with 0 points. So I should’ve still been 4th like I was coming into the race. Even though I struggled with the Gr.2 cars as always. I’ll enjoy it while I can since it’ll be the last time I’ll be up that high, and I won’t be bothering with the F1 race.

Really, no comments about the penalty zones yet? I like them so far, especially at Fuji. It really makes the penalties mean something and also makes them the same for everyone since some people always were better at burning them off without losing time than other people. Every track should have them at the start of the finishing straight though, or else you could have a situation like Gardens where someone gets a penalty on the last lap and doesn’t have a way to get rid of it before finishing the race and it gets rounded up and added to their time

Race Reports from last night:
Nations:
Had saved some fuel but as mentioned earlier I accidentally clicked 'Do not refuel' meaning I had to pit again, got fastest lap out of it though

Manufacturers:
A glitched start meant I had a 4s gap in front and 3s behind, went for the 2 stop as it was only a 5s time loss in the pitlane and the Lambo is horrendous on its tyres, in the end P7, probably as good as it could've been based on my pace.

Man, lots of props for pulling that one-stop on mediums in the Lexus. I also drive for Lexus and had a pretty good showing yesterday for me, (4th place for 1700pts) but I was worried using hards was going to lose me positions and it didn’t. At least I know now it can be done!

:bowdown::cheers:

Hey Guys. Long time GT fan here but have never really gotten into online racing until GTS was released. Can anyone tell me how the point system works for the FIA races? I placed 1st in the manufacturers race yesterday and walked away with only 301 points? Clearly I need to work on scoring more points, but don't exactly know what conditions reward extra points.. Clean race? Pole position? Fastest lap? Appreciate the advice! Cheers

Better opponents. So you need to raise you DR. Also need high S SR to get into a top level room. Win then and you'll get thousands of points.

Here´s my Nations Cup race from yesterday.
I was in the top group of my time slot in Europe. After 6th place in qualifying (1.30,963) i was able to gain one position right in the first corner and lined in a train of 4 drivers for the next laps. I didn´t see opportunities to overtake so i went for a overcut strategy. I´m not sure if it was the right decision as i lost 3 seconds with the pitstop. But with fresher tires i was able to catch up the group in front of me again and managed a great overtaking with more grip for accelerating out of the first corner in the final lap.

Result: 4th place and 1980 points :)

Thanks ASH32! This makes sense. Guess I have my work cut out for me... Just transitioned from a controller to a wheel about a month ago, and my Playseat will hopefully arrive tomorrow!! So excited! Do you guys think the seat actually improves driving performance?

In a nutshell, your points are determined by your ranking. For example, if you are a BB ranked player, you will not get as many points as a A+S ranked player. I don't know how the actual points are allotted for each race, but to get the higher points you must have a higher driver rating.

Keith.

Oops! Guess I was a little slow with the typing. :)

I don't have a Playseat myself, just a normal chair with my wheel stand pro and T150 with T3PA pedals. I reckon a good seat and solid fixing could help consistency though and maybe a odd tenth or two as well but it's not going to find you seconds a lap by itself of course.

There are no shortcuts, getting good with the wheel will only come with using it a lot but it didn't take me that long to beat my pad times when I first used a wheel, but then again I was rubbish with the pad. It may take some top pad guys a while to match their old times when they move to a wheel and yet others can adapt very quickly. Just keep at it and I'm sure you'll improve.

I wasn't planning to one stop with the mediums but I had zero practice with the hards. I decided to stay out once I realized I wasn't losing time to 2nd and looked at my wear. It's usually better than other drivers, I've noticed.

Seat is generally more of a comfort thing but better to be in a good seating position so that it's not a distraction.

Nations was interesting for me, I was unexpectedly put into a lower split room. Wound up being listed as #1 before qualy, qualified P1, and subsequently led start to finish in the race. A whole whopping 700 something points for the W, but I guess the morale boost was good? Anybody know why that would've happened? My DR hasn't really changed in a few weeks, as I've only been running the FIA races.

Manufacturers was back to status quo as I was in a top room with the usual suspects. Qualified somewhere near 15th and I think that's where I finished. Consistently bringing up the rear in a top room, lol.

I bet your SR dipped below 90 before that race. Even though you might still be S, the top lobby is 90-99 SR, which is used for matchmaking before DR comes into play.

Did your Sportsmanship rating drop from top S? Even at low S you'll get put into a lower quality room.

Ah, that's exactly it. The Gr.B race had a good bit of car contact for me on Saturday. I ran Nations first yesterday and it was a clean race, so that must've gotten me back to 99 and then back to the normal lobby for Manu. Thanks for the explanation!

Thanks again for the response ASH32. Ohh boy I may have landed myself in a bit of hot water then... The only way I could justify the Playseat to the wife was by telling her it will make me a MUCH better driver and that we will likely get an all expense paid trip to next years GTS FIA Final event. Are you telling me this in unlikely to happen? Good thing return postage to Italy will be way to expensive for her to try and make me return it!! Bahahahaha

Had to pause my GTS hobby due to traveling for the whole month of October and now I'm struggling to gain back my pace and confidence. So yesterday, I tried to do some laps at Catalunya, which I only knew from TV, and I found it an extremely challenging circuit. One tricky corner after the other and I'm finding it hard to be consistent. I know exactly where to improve, but I'm always making a mistake and couldn't drive under 1:46:00 after almost an hour of hot lapping.

Is Catalunya really one of the most technical circuits or should I blame my lack of practice?

It's a very technical track indeed. Haven't done the FiA practice on it so I don't know the benchmarks, but my fastest (or rather, only) time there on RH tires is the Hyundai Genesis with a 1:47.3-ish. I'm starting to guess that is pathetically slow

It's a mixture of tight-then-opens-up corners and open-then-tightens corners, and a lot of them are blind midway through. You really gotta know the track like the back of your hand yo be good at it
