My first race in the gr. 4 Mustang was interesting to say the least!

Completely ballsed up qualifying so started P17 only 1 from the back due to 2 disconnects. Courtesy of a pile up on lap 1 at the sharp left before the long back straight meant I was able to weave through a slow pack of cars picking up 6 positions :D

Then just kept my head down and kept it clean. After the pit stops (I pitted end of lap 5 from hard/meds to all mediums) picked my through to P7. I was pretty happy with that all things considered. Coming out of the last turn of the last lap there was a Merc ahead that had run out of fuel. I felt bad for them but happily took P6 off their hands!

Very happy with the 786 points and an entertaining race :cheers:

I know only the points from 4 of the 10 races over the season count but do you need to or can you run all five races per day to accumulate more points for that race? I just ran my first manufacturer race, managed to qualify 3rd and went on to win, and I’m just wondering if I should keep going today or stop while I’m ahead :lol:

The points for your most recent race count towards your rankings, so if you had a good race, I suggest you to stop there, unless you wanted to have more points...

Ok thank you, I think I’ll just stop now then lol. By the way, what exactly determines the amount of points? I did some digging and apparently factors like qualifying position, strength of opponents, and finishing position all play a part?

The Strength of Field affects the points available, so example, a grid full of drivers with 30K DR points will worth less points than one with 55-75K DR points, assuming that the SR stays the same (in this case, their SRs are maxed out at 99 points).

Just did both races with average results. What I've noticed recently is that it's becoming a lot harder to keep up with the usual drivers that I race against. I use a controller.

Had a look at the Nation's replay, and I found out that my tyre wear was shredding down far more than anyone else on the entire grid, except for one other controller player.

I'm not sure if that's a recent implementation that PD have put in or my driving skills on a pad have finally hit a place where I'm struggling to improve. Either way, I think this means I'm gonna start learning to use a wheel now lol.

Don't look at my tyre wear, I was one of the few that took new tyres halfway
 
Did anyone else have their points reset back to zero? I had a win earlier today and received 756 points but now it shows nothing :confused:

Yes :ouch: I wasn’t aware that your most recent races points were the ones that were applied until after I entered another race, so I quit out at the menu of the next race since I did so well on my first one. Really sucks too since it was one of the better races I’ve ever had online.
 
I tried my first Manufacturer Series race today. Oof. Shows I need improvement. Ended up with a 12th. I'll take it.

Felt a lot of pace in the Jag today. Tried the first slot but got disconnected when qualifying started. Down 2k DR and a few SR.
Second slot I got into a slightly less competitive lobby but cleaned up. 1st place by a big gap and 1600pts.

Wish I had seen this before I did mine in the Jag! Nice and smooth, and you were able to control your tyre wear far better than I was able to. Does the brake balance make much difference to tyre wear?

yeah absolutely. I run +5 rear on the Gr3, but with the Gr4 only +2 or +3. More than that and the back rotates too easily.
 
Done manu only today. 3 times. First time I used to warm up, finished 4th, got about 1.7k points.

Second time (below) I had more speed, qualified 2nd, but the race was complete chaos. Watch for yourselves.




After that bad result, I needed to do it again. Won the race but only gor 1.6k.

 
Yesterdays FIA races seemed to bring out the craziest driving. The Aston was biting people as they kept over correcting, guess people were not used to driving it. As for the garage car required - as long as PD don't do this in the main seasons where points count and good drivers get disadvantaged then fine. I still see this as a semi test season.

Saint Croix is wide with right angles, and yet a lot of people opted to hit the brakes rather than carry the speed through the corners and use that width. I guess a lot of people don't know the SC trio well as they are long and newish.

Does anyone know when the exhibition ends and the real season starts?

In all fairness, a decent amount of people don't put in too much practice, and St. Croix B II is a really awkward layout with a few blind corners and poor entry angles. I can see a lot of people going into that race with a lack of preparation and getting smacked by the difficulty of the track in reverse.
 
After DSC last week, last night was my first proper manufacturers race this season. Only had time for one quali lap, so first 3 laps were just spent burning fuel. The lap was clean, though nothing amazing and I was higher on the grid than expected. First stint of the race I was trying to save as much fuel as possible, but the M4 is quite poor on fuel so still lost out in the stops. Second stint just didn't really have the pace and ended up dropping down a couple of positions in the last couple of laps. But it was a clean race, so not really too many complaints.


 
I only did the Manufacturers last night.

Race went pretty well. Qualified 7th, finished 5th. I punted a fellow from 6th down to 16th so I felt bad about that. I watched the replay after to apologize to him but after looking at the replay he spun himself out twice trying to get back on track.....so I don't feel so bad ahah. It was that right hander just before the bridge, I was late on the brakes, it's was tricky with traffic in front of me since I rely on the crest of the hill for my braking point and they braked hard before I normally do.

I don't know if the drivers around me were just slow but the Scirocco was amazing through the first set of esses at St. Croix. I was in 7th after pitting and we went three wide into the esses. I was on the outside to start so I had the better line right through and I came out of the esses .5 seconds ahead of the two others. They stayed about .5 second behind me the rest of the lap, then the next time through the esses I came out 1.8 ahead, the lap after that 3 seconds. All the while I was able to cut the lead of the guy ahead of me from 5 seconds down to 2.

It was a decent B driver room, 822 points for 5th. Normally I only do either nation or manufactuers but this season I might try both now. One race put me 13th with Volkswagen, so I figure based on the points I normally get in Nations I should have a shot at the top 3 with VW.
 
VW Scirocco is great on the twisty tracks due to its light weight, but it lacks top speed. It tops out at about 159mph (Huaracan is nearly 170) so anything with long straights then you are in for a tough time (Tokyo East Outer, Monza, etc.)

Looking at Gr.4 races left in this season (Nurburgring GP, Blue Moon Infield A II & Lago Maggiore GP I would say you should definitely race as it should be pretty good at those. Might struggle a little on the straight at Blue Moon.

Scirocco/Beetle combination are pretty good tbh on twisty tracks, I raced them in the last main season.

All and all, finished the evening with a not so good score of 900 or so.

Dang, you almost have to chalk that up to a mechanical failure, the internet kind. That’s a tough break.
