Thank your for your analysis 👍 I have 2 questions, remarks though:
  1. Biggest problem in qualifying is actually be able to run a lap without traffic and not being held up. What do you think of that?
  2. Are cold tires really an issue? They haven't had any effect on my first laps as far as I could notice. Must say I drive pretty conservative.
To add, I am running a few classes below you guys in terms of sheer speed. After verifying...a whole lot lower
I'll add my own thoughts.

1. Even in the top split rooms, this can be an issue. There's a few suggestions on how to mitigate it:

a. Decide where to be when you exit the pits. If you can get out near the front, then stay there. Don't push too hard but it's worth holding onto that advantage since it may stay with you the entire session. If you're like me and have the last pit stall every time, then drop back and burn all the fuel you can.

b. Recognize drivers directly ahead and behind you. If you know a driver ahead is slower than you, then you need to leave a much wider gap. Conversely, signal faster drivers behind you to jump ahead before the end of an outlap. Depending on the room, the gap should be 2~5 seconds.

c. Practice on banker laps. The first flier will probably be one without interference. Especially on shorter tracks, you may end up relying on that lap in case traffic ruins any other attempts.

d Watch the track map. As the session goes on, you may need even larger gaps. Last thing you want to see is a bunch of arrows on pit road when approaching it, for example.

2. I believe it is in FIA races as the cars sit on the grid longer than in a lobby. However the first few turns feel in race practice, dial it down a touch.

I am rank D atm and I find myself mostly in those lobbies. I thank you for your replies and I am concient of those options. However, the lobbies so far have been great during racing but a real mess within qualifying. Even if I managed pole 2 times, all my laps where ruined by hold-up, errors and traffic . Drivers spread all over the track and not leaving enough of a timewindow since there where slower drivers (6 to 8 secs a lap sometimes). That ain't a problem but it becomes one when even in their outlap they come on to the track and simply block. Qualifying rules require a certain behaviour and that seems to be missing. Get out of the racingline if you don't run you proper lap and watch your mirrors!!! Well, it is something I have to deal with and it is like that. Part of racing I think.

Well it sounds like you know what your doing out there and follow the proper etiquette or are at the very least aware of the proper etiquette :). I think a lot of people in the D, C and even B lobbies think the out lap is part of the race and try to fight for first place. It seemed that way to me as I was coming up anyways.

Something I did quite often when I was in the C and low B lobbies; if on the outlap I felt people were battling and there wasn't a lot of room I'd just quit and restart qualifying from the pits while everyone else was more than halfway done the first outlap. Sure you lose alot of time but if you think your being held up it's best to be on an island by yourself to just go. But then it comes down to luck, people always tend to go off track and you can still catch up to them.

You really only need one good lap, so if it takes 8 minutes to get a good track position so be it, just make that one lap count. From what I remember of the lower lobbies is alot of the drivers treat the 10 minute qualifier as a sprint and giv'er for the whole 10 minutes, even though after 1 hard lap your tires are spent and you won't get faster

Well for the guys that are blocking/staying on racing line on the outlap, it's unfortunate but you can't do much, only advice I could give is get higher in DR, and people should start to look in their mirrors in qualifying more. In the high dr lobbies usually people on their outlaps are going off the racing line when seeing someone approaching them fast from behind

I make errors like everyone else but I try to take into account fairplay and sportmanship. Also, I don't participate to win but my focus is top 10. It all isn't that much of an issue and so far the racing has been really nice and in the end that is what counts 👍

I don't know about you guys, but I'm struggling with track limits at Monza for Manu. I was 100% ok with Interlagos on Saturday too. I feel like I need to cut the curbs so fine or else I lose tons of time. And just a slight error on the way in or out is a penalty. The worst one for me is entry into Ascari is 1.5 secs.

But maybe im just pushing too much. Prob just need to practice more

As mentioned above, I shoot for top 10 in the race. Any spot there, is a win for me.

Tonight's SF19 event, is going to be epic. Hopefully it's a full room of 20, all liveried up cars. Even if I finish last, I can't wait to watch the replay. :)

Me too. It's going to get even worse with tire wear. My plan is to avoid them even if I have to slow down more. I figure others will push harder & I'll make it up when they're in penalty.

I turned my first laps at Monza last night and felt the same thing, Interlagos was not a big issue, but I couldn’t complete a lap at Monza with any pace without getting a penalty. Bizarre, but at least all of us have the same track limits to deal with.

I’ll get it figured out tonight and be ready for tomorrow, I hope.

Is the Mustang just not a decent car for Monza? I've put a few laps down & while I've been able to slowly improve each lap I'm starting to plateau around 4s slower than the top 10 guys. Normally I would be 2-3s slower. Or maybe it's just the length of the track amplifying my slowness? I've watched the fast guys replays and I'm not seeing any difference in how I'm attempting to make my laps, just that they're better than me.
Fellow mustang driver here, I’m in the 55s with the car, I think you just need to be smooth and short shift before the indicator about 7/8s of the way up the cars power band is in the lower ranges so it’s crucial keeping it there, as for the first chicane break slightly past the 150 board and try to get the right tires to grab the kerb, tap the gas has before the left turn and quickly go on the brakes to get the car to turn it, as soon as it’s straight smash the gas and hug the right hand side of the track until the second chicane, brake hard under the bridge while hugging the right hand side, pitch the car to the left and you can cut a little bit of kerb on both apexes, as you approach lesmo 1 bring the car around 85mph while trail braking and try to use the whole width of the track without going too far wide as you get back on the throttle, for lesmo 2 brake slightly before the 50 and pitch the car right as to try to get two wheels onto the green Astro turf use the momentum to gain speed coming out and towards ascari, as you approach ascari look for the patch of sidewalk on the right hand side for your braking point, pitch left and cut the first apexes slightly, if you stay off the sausages it should be clear of a penalty, try to follow the same technique through the rest of the section progressively getting faster, lift off the throttle if you feel the car pushing off the racing line, you should be basically slingshotting out of ascari towards parabolica, once there brake a little past the 100 mark again trail braking and trying to hug the inside line make sure you begin the turn as far left as you can, depending on how you approach it will allow you to get on the throttle early. Good luck!

Thanks!

That's pretty much what I'm doing (or trying to) so it must just be me being slow!

Oh snap. I'm starting on SOfts. :nervous:

Congrats to the 🤬 who punted all of us at the start of that race, and as a result, I've had to leave it early due to it going from bad to worse here on after.
Unbelievable these people are allowed to race online! :banghead:

Aww, man. I saw some T1 cluster. That's messed up.

Really can't believe I was on pole and got that win. Started on softs so I could just run as fast as I could, for a gap. Pitted end of Lap 4. 2nd place pitted the next lap. Had a 5.5 gap and tyre wear was coming into play by lap 9. Maintained around 2.2 seconds and I did it... downshifted to 4th at the bottom right-hander at the back straight(I was using 5th all race). Went off track for a split second. Lost 0.5 seconds.

Lap 10, used up my OT. Had a 0.7 gap. Lap 11 just stayed smooth on the racing line to the finish. I think 2nd lost some time at the esses before and under the overpass. Still can't believe it. Love these cars. Best addition to the game.

My SF race went about as well as I expected...

Botched qualifying hard so I ended up starting in dead last. Manage to get out of Turn 1 and Sector 1 chaos in 8th place before losing control in the last sector, where that huge right hander is, going back to near dead last once again. Finished 12th though and won like 248 points out of it. Don't think I'm going to do another attempt, it seemed a bit too chaotic for my liking.

Once again, my Nations Cup race goes from bad to 🤬 WORSE again. To the player sporting the Alfa Romeo livery, go 🤬 yourself, I had that line at turn 3 on lap 1.
These races are just ridiculous at this point, none of us can keep up with the pros. We need to split these championships up into PRO and AM entries, so that more players can have a fighting chance to have good races rather than be saddled with all the crash-happy 🤬 surrounding us.

So how were the strategies in Monza? 1-stop or no-stop?
One stop for me, but the penalties were the killer. Just a look at a curb, netted me .5 seconds. I think the exhaust noise from the car, touched a curb and gave me another 3 seconds.

Front tyre wear on the Atenza is ridiculous. Just not competitive after a few laps.

Thanks for the info. I was doing race simulations yesterday in my GT86 and I think a no-stop on softs is a little bit faster but not by much, about 2-3s.

Yeah, the track limits are extremely harsh on Monza. I find it funny and was quite angry at PD on Saturday because of the limits on Interlagos.
In all of the exhibition seasons curbs were track and now all of a sudden it changes completely wih absolutely no margin for error here. I participated in the Salzburg live event last year and they also said: "Curb is track."

Yeah, right.

I've watched F1 on Sunday and looked at how the drivers there took the corners... Each and every one of them would get 1-2s penalty every single lap. Quite ridiculous if you think about it.

They seem very random to me. One lap i'll get a pen when i didn't even think i touched the curb, then on the next lap i'll go too wide, go right over the curb and wait for the penalty notice to pop up only for it to not happen.

Had one more crack at the Nations Cup race and it went so much better.
Pole position by just a couple hundredths, not a great launch losing the lead but managing to stay out of trouble and hold on to 2nd.
1st position went to slap a new set of Softs after lap 4 and I ended up battling someone else for the lead.

We both pit at the end of lap 5, I went for Mediums on a 1-stopper and we resumed our battle.
Surprisingly late on, 1st position makes another stop for another set of tyres and I thought his race was over.
Anyways, I started to get real close towards the end as the guy in front seemed to start running wide a bit.

It was neck-and-neck in the final lap and out of nowhere, the player on the 2-stopper was coming back very fast. I accidentally pushed a little too hard and ran slightly wide after the exit of turn 10 but enough to get back on the track. He was right behind me and passed from the outside and went for a crack at the lead. It was madness as I had a go for it as well, but unfortunately settled for 3rd in the end.

Definitely one of the closest fights for the win I've had in an FIA race. It wasn't the win obviously but I at least finished in the podium unlike the last 2 attempts. You could call me Charles Leclerc, having gotten pole and finishing 3rd in the race.

@VrapPlus :cheers:
That’s a hot lap for sure! Wish I could be that fast with the Pony.
I’m for sure using some of your tips. :DThank you!

Has anyone done Nations using a controller? I'm practicing on mediums and they're just getting shredded. I'm pretty sure a 2-stop (4/4/3 laps) on softs will be better, but I'm curious if anyone has experience of it.

Wow, I was almost taking it personally, kids were laughing and the Mrs telling me to grow up when I did some laps

With the Ferrari I need all the track I can get.

I did did a couple of race distances and was slightly quicker doing the 4/4.3 strategy, I'm going with the two stop as I'm expecting to be somewhere near the back in qualy and will just be too slow on the mediums, Im hoping the penalty's may spread the field out and I get lucky around the pit-stops.

Apologies for the double post, my phones screen is misbehaving.

Nations Cup race was quite a joke.
On the grid at P6, after some qualifying nicks due to "mobile chicanes".

Race was pretty smooth, a decent start made me leapfrog up to P4. Followed by a carnage at turn 1, dropping me down the order to last place at P17. Change of strategy: toned down my aggressive driving to nurse the tyres for a decent pit stop that put me up in several places again. Meanwhile, the backmarkers were all ballerinas spinning all over the track and bringing out the yellows, that gave me more confidence and hot pursuit to manage my pacing.
Did a splendid recovery drive to finish P8, while the ass player from Japan that took me out of the corner finished P5. I mean, I should mark him for the future races huh? Unfortunately I ain't as pathetic as that guy, I'd rather keep my respect and sportmanship.

Perhaps my conclusion, some Japanese players are really idiots that ruin the sport with absolute no respect. Even if I had a little tap from behind, I'd usually power down for a few seconds to give another gap to go.

P.S. The penalty line was a bit of a joke because while overtaking the slow ones the ghosts suddenly appeared and I end up with damage on the front.

Lastly, congratulations to @05XR8 for the win. I was watching the live stream from another Aussie player while at work earlier in the day.

Time to save the replay videos and review my race pace and tyre management as a debrief.

I finished my 2 stop practice after I first posted that and I'm at the same conclusion. The softs seem to be worth at least a few seconds a lap, and with a ~17 second pit stop it'll probably balance itself out at worst. Plus I'll have the added stability of better tyres during the race.

Of course, I'll probably get punted somewhere on lap 1 making this irrelevant, but it's nice to plan stuff.

Ed - I've just realised the clocks changed at the weekends and the races are back to starting at 6PM rather than 5. Whoops.
