behind, but then dropped back for whatever reason. Also I managed to catch mthomas' Porsche right at the last chicanes as he was also slowing down (because of fuel or penalties maybe?). Crossed the line with nothing in the tank less than half a second behind 1st. Without the Q mistake could've won by a mile but I'll gladly take the 2900 points as wel

I had a 1.2 second penalty which almost went to 0 before the Ford Chicanes but not quite, was absolutely calm when that happened and seeing you close up massively

Also got over a second of penalties on my Q lap, was rather triggered losing pole by a tenth! I did notice in practice runs the lower fuel maps didn't impact on lap time too much, so 0 stop is probably the fastest especially as you don't need tyres anyway.

Ok so that was it :D

I was managing my fuel by accelerating to around 280-290 km/h (~180mph) and then switching to fuel map 6 for the remainder of the straight. Then I'd lift around the first corner distance marker and switch back to map 1 for acceleration while coasting. I took Porsche curves usually with map 3 or 4 as well. But as I said the deciding factor was to have someone to leech a draft from.

I got "lucky" disconnected just at the end of free practise, after entering the manufactures. Looks like I will get one more chance in the last timeslot.
Its a shame PD is not able to sort that out.

Sadly you won't, got the same thing, when I tried to enter next slot, I got an error message, and when I exited the FIA menu, I couldn't get back on the screen where you can see the slots

I got really lucky :). Was able to enter last time slot in manufactures and finished Top 10 in an A+ lobby.
Maybe there were still some couple of seconds left in free practise when I got disconnected :odd:

I think a disconnect in the race it's acceptable to say 0 points, and I think any retirement in the race would be hard to differentiate. I think anything in qualifying or warm up should be indicated via the database in the background or something. Basically if it's a DNS then can re-enter, i mean is it really open to that much abuse if they had this? As in someone purposefully disconnects/quits? There's only 5 time slots and as we have to pick 2 of them, it would be difficult to abuse substantially to gain any sort of major advantage. I mean I don't know what goes on in the background but it feels like they could do something which would help.

Well, I think the game should be able to know when the quit was caused by a game or console crash. If it's a voluntary quit, then no pity. Connection issue ? Well, I understand they don't care, otherwise people could just unplug a cable and pretend it wasn't their fault. But a game crash making you lose a potentially very good race, 1440 DR and 5 SR is very, VERY annoying.

I was still in free practice as well. I got on track during it though, did you ?

I was also on the track when got disconnected. I did restart my ps4 after it happened, didn´t try to enter before.

Manufacturer's cup, game crashed. Wasn't allowed to join the next time slot.

Nation's cup, game hung.

Nice, I can't even play what this game was designed for.

O for sure they should be able to tell, at least if you send the report it should just reset that join for you or something. But I was just going super simple so when they go through the grid of each driver just change the 'DNS value' from a 1 to a 0 and that means you can't enter Nations again. Something really simple like that is at least a good start.

Now thay the championships are officially underway, I thought I’d start a thread for people to post their experiences!

Everything from matchmaking to the penalty system to race length and everything in between can be discussed.

Did you enjoy the race? How do you like having a set qualifying time before the race, instead of the normal format of being able to qualify whenever? Is the driving from others any better than in normal daily races? Do you think that the FIA can actually find true talent with this system (as Nissan did with GTA) based on your experiences? Do you like the added flair in the presentations for the championship?

For my first race, I competed in the Le Mans GR1 for the Nations Cup. I really didn’t expect to do well, so I practiced the race in custom race beforehand to get dialed in and figure out my strategy.

I used the Porsche 919. Through my experience, I discovered that it was just about as quick overall to save fuel and not pit, versus pitting and running flat out.

I decided that if I started near the front, and away from trouble, I would pit. If I was near the back, I would save fuel and leapfrog everybody during their stops.

Come race time, I was actually somehow able to grab pole with a 3:26.0 (the 10 minute time limit meant that we all only had time for an out lap and flying lap. Never had so much anxiety while playing a video game hah).

During the race I utilized the strategy listed above of pitting once. I had determined from my mock-races beforehand that I used 18L per lap in the 919, meaning I only had to stop on lap 5 and fill up to 37 liters to be good to go. (Tyre wear wasn’t bad enough to warrant changing them, either)

This paid off. During the race, my nearest opponent was 6 seconds behind when he pit on lap 4. After I exited the pits, I had gained another 9 seconds on him due to my short stop. This also meant that I would be lighter on fuel and thus a bit faster, compensating for the bad tires.

I took it easy the last two laps and won by 10 seconds.

I don’t know how this system will work for actually promoting good racing versus the normal daily races. I personally didn’t see any carnage, but it sounded like it got a bit hairy further back.

I feel like the penalty system isn’t perfect, but that it’s necessary for something like this, where the FIA of all people is involved. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten upset in Forza over the years from divebombers and dirty racers. The fact that I can go into the first turn at a track while NOT looking behind me for torpedoes is a statement that the penalty system and SR must be doing SOMETHING right.

I’m curious to see how this system plays out. When I first heard about this FIA championship, I honestly couldn’t see PD pulling it off. GT games were always “the real hot lap simulator” to me. Seeing the final product has blown me away. I don’t think this is something PD could have achieved 5 years ago, which is a testament to them FINALLY moving in the right direction.

Sorry for the long-winded post. Just wanted to have plenty of different topics in the OP to spark conversation.

My experience for both cups. And they counted.

Game related. That pic is with the Manufacturers Cup. The nations cup hung during the player list line up.

Thats too bad. I guess it’s a good thing that the game only saves the best 2 out of 4 race scores, so if something like this happens then the player isn’t completely screwed

You were driving at La Sarthe today? I drove at Suzuka in the manufacturer series. Maybe the pit time is different at each track like in real life.
Ohhh, I thought you were also talking about La Sarthe. But yes, pit times are different per track. Some take as long as 40 seconds because of their pit lane, like Interlagos :D

How fast are the people in your lobbies? I was just cruising after I did my pitstop.
3:22 qualifying time fast

I’m just a casual player, can only fit in a few hours some nights of the week, but have been getting excited about these champs.
I raced one each at Suzuka and Le Mans, my 12th place start at Suzuka in the Stang was a bit hairy, blokes all over the track but I had a decent race finishing 8th, only 1 big mistake :D.
Le Mans in the Mazda (because rotary) was fun, I had 3rd but messed up, started 6th finished 5th, I’m happy.
Not bad for first real races with G29.
I’m also still learning pit/fuel strategies, very new to it

Did pretty well at Suzuka, but a serious mistake with my fuel strategy cost me the win. After my pit stop, I was in the lead by 5 seconds and kept fuel on mix 3 until lap 8, when I noticed I had 4.0 Laps of fuel. I misinterpreted that as having enough fuel for the end of the race (thought process was 12-8=4) and went to Mix 1, when in reality I was 1 lap short. I realized I made a mistake on Lap 10 and immediately went to Mix 6. I still managed to finish the race, but I finished 2nd, 4 seconds behind the leader. I really feel like I could've won if I stayed on Mix 3. Frustrating, but it could've been much worse if I didn't notice my mistake when I did. Still a very good result considering I hardly ever do well at Suzuka.

Man I hate Gr.1. By far the slowest person in my race, 18th (last car running) and 97 points, woo. I couldn’t run a lap under 3:30 if my life depended on it in the Tomahawk even though it handled fine. Tried not stopping but spun out coming to 2 laps to go so took a splash of fuel, wouldn’t have made any difference anyway.

Content with my 8th and 1161 points in Manufacturers though. The Subaru was good through the Esses and that’s about it. No speed or grip off the final chicane

I ran a no stopper. Got in the gravel on final corner on last 2 laps. Cost me about 4 positions sadly. Would have been 3rd.

People in Porsches not understanding the acceleration difference ramming into the back of me and then getting salty after the race... I mean come on.

Entered to nations cup, got pole position and then I finished second because of this OP Mazda LM55, super op in straight line speed, no chance for my poor Audi R18. :(

Funny, since in my race the LM55s were all at the back and the Audi’s were at the front.

So! For today's Nations/Makers race, I respectively scored 190/263 pts, as a representative of the USA/Hyundai. How badly did I screw up?

I guess I'm confused why that can't be discussed here?

Nations Cup : 7th/1500 points
Manufacturer Series with Hyundai : 5th/1462 points

I didn't want to take risks in that first FIA day. I'm pretty happy with those results.

Blew it in the mfg. Wasn't expecting to do well with the mustang at Suzuka but I broke my focus and spun it. Only got like 300 pts or something.

I haven't played online in over a month and man, it showed. I landed 291 Nations points and ~790 points in Manufacturers. Almost all of that was my fault, but the Manufacturers race was full of people playing demolition derby in the back and it was hard to not get caught up in it.

cracks knuckles

Time to practice....
