Made a one-off return to Manufacturers this afternoon with Citroen. Felt like making amends for not doing the RBR Gr.4 race last November, as well as seeing how well the Gr.4 version fares under current BoP settings.
Entered the 16:00 alongside
@SmokeyMR2, qualifying 2nd with a time of 1:36.019 despite overcooking my entry through Niki Lauda Kurve. Five different makes in the top 5 (Honda, Citroen,
Mitsubishi, Porsche, Renault) and the top 15 separated by just over a second.
Starting at the front, I was slightly uneasy about the strategy I was going for in this race. A one-stop (8S-9H) felt like the best approach as
@breeminator and I found out in practice, providing I looked after the Softs well enough in the opening stint. However, I did have difficulty in doing this the first time without losing places on the opening lap, and anticipated similar things happening to me once the green flag dropped. Yet, I resisted the temptation to push the Citroen or attempt any overambitious moves, so settled with following the NSX around until he picked up a track limits penalty at the final corner. This briefly allowed me to take the lead while also having the Megane Trophy, Evo and a red Cayman breathing down my neck, though a couple of track limits penalties of my own eventually demoted me to 4th. Not a problem, however, with the multiple strategies at play; the Citroen still felt good by the time I followed the Cayman into the pits on Lap 8.
Inevitably, I lost ground to the Soft-shot Honda, which along with a generally tentative out-lap set myself up for a battle with the black and gold Evo. It wasn't an ideal situation to be in, as we were no longer in touch with the top three and the 6th-placed Hyundai was closing in on Softs. However, it made for some fun racing as I attempted to pass the Evo at Remus, succeeded at Niki Lauda Kurve and went three-wide on the run to Schlossgold - all without penalties. Eventually, the Hyundai darts into pit road and I pass the Evo at Niki Lauda Kurve again, sliding over the kerbs in the process. From there, it was a case of defending from the Evo and a French Corvette lurking behind until they began to fall back. Late stops for the NSX and red Cayman promote me back up to 2nd for 264 points.
Overall, an excellent return to Manufacturers, and massive credit to the Evo driver for getting into the top 5. Couldn't have felt more satisfied with how well the battles and one-stop worked out - the Citroen remains as planted, economical and kind on tyres as ever. Don't know when I'll be starting the main season, but I think I'm getting closer to deciding which make I'll be signing up with...
