If anyone remembers my last write-up on a race at Laguna Seca, you'd probably know that it was a sloppy end to my first Manufacturers Exhibition season run with Citroen. Since then, I've been trying to get clean sessions without dropping all four wheels into the sand, but most of these attempts resulted in failure. Though I knew that the Mustang wouldn't be the most competitive car around this circuit, I still decided to enter the 16:40 alongside @SmokeyMR2 for the sole purpose of completing a race without going off once. It felt stable and forgiving enough in practice lobbies, so what was there to lose?

16:40 Manufacturers

For the second race in a row, I managed to destroy my own qualifying run on my first flier. No contact, no hold-ups, no trips to the sand... just carried a little too much speed through the Corkscrew and went a little over the green stuff on exit. Twice pulled over to the side to let the rest of the pack through and accepted a start from 18th. Pole went to a French Porsche with a 1:25.858 (for reference, my best practice quali lap was a 1:27.050).

Not to worry, though... just stuck on Hards and got rid of them on the first lap. This was while catching up to the tails of a Porsche and McLaren, though the Mustang's thirst for fuel at full chat probably set me back as the CSX McLaren emerged in front on pitlane exit. The orange McLaren is struggling, though (replay HUDs suggested he was short-shifting at low-revs), and a kerb-hop from him allows me to glide past on the run to Turn 5. Rather uneventful stint on Mediums from that point onwards, but kept fairly close to the CSX car until he peeled into pit road on Lap 6. Set a string of consistent high-1:28s and briefly held 12th until the lime green Ferrari reeled in and passed me at Andretti Hairpin. Had the inside for Turn 3 but backed out as I was coming to the end of my stint anyway. Pitted for Softs and fuel (64% for some extra power down the straights), re-joining the race dead last.

Though a bit disappointed about how much ground I had lost (whether it was down to my refuelling or the Mustang's poorer economy in general I'm not sure), I did salvage a purple first sector and enough pace to draw in the orange McLaren until he went into the sandpit at Andretti. The green Ferrari pits from Softs to Hards with two laps to go. Kept him honest until he put two wheels onto the sand and drifted wide early into the final lap, giving me another chance to slip up the inside at Turn 5. From there, it was full throttle to the flag.

18th place and 78 points might seem crushingly disappointing on the surface, but at the end of the day I can consider this run a success. Only had a couple of instances where I went over the kerbs/white lines during the race itself, and even then I still kept two wheels on the tarmac without losing too much momentum. Stayed largely out of trouble while making some clean passes out of other players' problems, though given the sort of lap times I was doing in practice I'm not sure how much of a difference a penalty-free qualifying would have changed things. Either way, there should hopefully be more chances later for the Mustang to have its day...

I just raced with most dirty player ever... I will upload his actions in a while. Got no words
This is first of his moves:

After this first one I should have murdered him, but decided to show that Im faster and pass him cleanly, so he did this:

Why that kind of people even play GTS? Is there any satisfaction in driving that style? I dont know...

When the opportunity presents itself, ALWAYS take dirty players out when overtaking them so they don't have the chance to do that. Of course that's unless it further hurts your race or you risk collecting innocent bystanders.

13th place at laguna seca in the lexus, did terrible at suzuka in round one too, can't tell if it's me or the car at this point.
The gr. 3 is decent at least.

Forgettable FIA for me, didn’t expect much with my amount of practise and the SLS not beeing the quickest. Can’t even count the amount of times people “wrestled” themselves past my car.

Chuckled a little when a guy moved right back on the racing line (after another pass that could’ve been without contact easely.. but wasn’t)in front of me before the brakezone, taking away all my down-and braking force, he went to collect some dust.

Going to skip Tokyo for my own sanity, might give Monza a go.

Might have to give it a shot. Was just talking with a friend that it's a shame they are hard to drive, because they are so good looking and sound even better (and: FERRARI) but they are just temperamental at speed. If it's somewhat less now may be fun to give them a try.

This is my first FIA season on GT Sport and I chose Ferrari because of how good they look and they sound not bad either. Iam playing just for fun, Iam B rated skill and I find the Ferrari's brilliant to drive (although I only bought the game in January so no idea how the used to drive).

"Ever" for me:)
Now that I can't argue with!:D

Nations, Round 4, Sardegna Road II

EMEA

Slot 4:

Highlights (4 minutes):

P11 (Door 11) start. Following a very poor outing in the Stratos in Slot 2 P18 for 21 pts), it was time to use the Mazda TC. Having climbed to P10 by the last lap, I managed to hold off 2 cars for 43 pts.

Slot 6:

Highlights (14 minutes):

P7 (P7). An unhappy start, but a great battle in the closing laps, and I crossed the line in P3 for 63 pts and a CRB, and that was enough for me.

North America

Slot 2
:

Highlights (8 minutes):

P9 (Door 9). Quite a pattern developing! Crossed the line in P8 for 60 pts.

Slot 3:

Highlights (6 minutes):

Started in P4 (Door 18). Finished P4 with 81 pts and a CRB.

Finally won my first FIA race in a year or so.

Only had time to do the last 2 manufacturer slots. The first race was a bit meh. Got blocked once again in quali, so i ended up starting from 3rd last on the grid. Started the race on mediums and done 9 laps on them, then i pitted for hards and some fuel, and i did 2 laps on the hards for some reason, then i pitted for softs. I ended up finish p10, so not too bad.

2nd race i qualified 3rd on the grid and i ended up losing 2 places on the first lap. 3 of the 4 people in front of me must have started on softs because they pitted on lap 6. I stayed on mediums until the end of lap 8 and then i pitted for hards and done 1 lap on those and then i pitted for softs and fuel, and i came back out in 9th. I passed the other people in front of me when they were in the pits, and then P1 & P2 pitted at the end of lap 14, so i passed them to take the lead as i started the last lap. So yeah... its feels pretty good to win my first FIA event in a while.

I finished the race in 8th and then got a 1 minute penalty after the race. I rewatched the whole race video and never saw a notification of a penalty.

Anyone have any ideas what could have happened?

That was a great race! Qualified P3, only .001 off of P2. I decided to just lay back in the draft and save fuel as much as I could instead of pushing, it worked out well too, I ended up getting 12 laps out of the softs. I dropped back to 4th at one point, I made a mistake and let him by as soon as he got along side so we didn’t lose P2 in a squabble. The two Toyota’s ahead of me both ended up pitting before me for mediums, then we all pitted at the end of lap 14 for hards. I came out in P3, but was able to ghost pass P2 coming out the pits lol, I pulled a bit of a gap over the lap but had to be really defensive in the last two corners because by then P3 and P4 were right on my ass. P2 even got along side on the outside in the final corner but caught some wheel spin and lost momentum, so I was able to hold on to 2nd across the line. It’s so nice when everyone races clean and respectful, GT really can be a great game when that happens. :)

I still think it's an easy way out to just blame PD for disconnects.
There is a lot of steps between us and the servers and the entire net is under stress now.
Yes I agree that it's not PD's fault with the disconnects...but the system should recognize if someone quits the game willingly (what you have to acknowledge before you actually quit) or disconnects because of server/internet issues or a crashed PS4/Game. Based on that the system should only punish players with -1500DR and -5SR that are willingly quitting the race :odd:

It was already bad enough to loose good points because of loosing network connection...but that I lost also 3000DR hurts

And last race was terrible and I was also driving quite ****** I must say...would have thought that I can make some decent points this round :irked:

Well next round then :gtpflag:

Somewhat of an interesting day. I didn't really get in any real practice but did a bunch of lapping trying to figure out BB, tire wear and such for the Jag. Got my free practice time down to an ok number but never quite seemed to find the pace with fuel & tire wear turned on.

Slot 1:
Qualifying was probably more interesting than the race as I was constantly weaving to avoid cars spinning, swerving back onto the track and sliding every which way. I'm a little bit surprised I didn't pass a car on fire. I qualied P7.

I go with a 1H/6M/8S strategy. The race was predictably chaotic lap 1. After a couple of bang-ups and avoiding many more, I manage to slide myself into the gravel after T10 before pit lane. And that was the most excitement I saw. I manage to lose two places by the end of it all and finish P9.

Slot 2:
Again, qualifying was a nightmare. At my first attempt at a flying lap, a Ferrari runs me off the Corkscrew and I end up deep in the gravel. I exit out in hopes of crossing the start/finish before the clock runs out. I almost made it but got blocked going into T11 and lost a ton of speed and time. For the first time, I start from the back as a non-qualifier - P18.

Again, 1H/6M/8S. I can tell I'm making up time and places during my RM stint even though most of my overtaking is people going in for tire changes. I'm something like P11 when I come out of my second pit stop and start my RS stint. By lap 13, I'm running P6. But I had pushed my tires so hard that I could already feel them slipping. I watch my 3 sec lead on P7 evaporate as I struggle to keep it on track. He overtakes me on the run-up to T5 on the final lap and I limp across the line in P7. P2 gets slapped with a tire penalty and I move up to P6.

Even though I really should have managed my tires better and finished P5, P18 to P6 isn't too shabby! And this race was enough to pull me out of my week of purgatory in DR.C.

I usually put in at least 2/3 hours practice for a race, when I can that is. :)

I envy ppl who can just get in any car and basically be on the pace and clean after 30 laps or so.
For a race that I am serious about (like a group 4 race at Laguna) I do about 5-6 full practice race simulations (either in a lobby or a custom race as the AI pace is just below mine), with many aborted attempts, and practice laps. Probably 3-4 hours all up.
My enjoyment is mainly derived from the practice as I know that in a race my fate is, most of the time, decided by the drivers around me.

Tonight was much better after the black qualifying screen disaster at DTS.

race 1:

Qualified p4 for the first race (another one with @CurbHog ), and I let the cold tires get to me coming out of T1. Ended up in 7th and then cruised in 5th after some people hit the pits on lap 1. Went that way through my pit stop on lap 7. After my lap on hards and the pit back to mediums, this happened:

Maybe I turned into him (though I think I started my turn before he got his nose in), but when I felt contact I gave him space. Evidently that wasn’t good enough for him. I ended up working back up to p7 by the finish and he quit so I couldn’t even whine at the end of the race.

race 2: faster room. I qualified p3 and got a clean start. The leader spun coming out of the last turn in lap 2, and it was pretty free sailing after that. We put up a big gap and I was able to conserve my tires a bit. He ended up beating me by 15 seconds lol. Good race though for a track the Jag doesn’t love. Tokyo and La Sarthe should be much better matches.

First Manufacturers race at Laguna, a track I’ve not raced at before. Qualifying: some wise guy pushes me aside on warm up lap (I’m at a good distance behind first couple of guys out, at 9/10 pace) then sets pole lap, only to then stay ahead of me, but as he sees me on a flyer behind him: slows in the last turn then to a crawl on the exit, right on the outside curb, deliberately to impede my lap. What a jerk. He immediately apologized in the warm up screen. Yeah, about as sincere as Schumacher after parking it in Rascasse, right? So mad I forgot to swap for M’s before the race, fouling up my strategy as well as my starting position. Oh well. Start 9th, deal with some other idiots mid pack as usual, including the usual ingrate that makes a mistake, allowing you to pass, only to assume he’s entitled to run you off next turn in order to retake his spot, as though he was entitled to it regardless of his own mistake. “One of those races”

Not satisfied with the points and negative DR that came with that result, ran it again. Tougher lobby, I’m ranked near the tail end (good!). Had pole for most of the quali session, start 2nd. Stick to strategy, start on M’s. In 1st by the Corkscrew. Now it’s getting serious! But stuck to the strategy, hit the marks, avoid any trouble, bring home some points. Banging out laps within a tenth of a second, one after the other. Only one top 10 driver had a slower fastest lap, but mine were all right on target. Not a wheel off, no mistakes. Finished 4th, just behind 2nd and 3rd, in sight of the leader, (probably put too much fuel in again, costing me track position on re-entry) …and increased my standings with a new high points finish. 2nd and 4th place in the Cayman thru the first two FIA Gr.3 races... a car I didn’t really love before signing with Porsche for the season- in fact had relegated it to the back of my garage for months. Good day. And a new record of 8 straight days of DR increase, with my new more selective strategy for races.

Separate accounts for Daily and FIA races… smart! Nice UPS livery too. Well done.

Did the last 2 slots tonight: Q14, F15 in slot 4; and Q8 F9 in slot 5. Nothing major to report except the reason for my poor finish in the first one is due to me once again having a lapse in concentration, and putting my left tires in the sand before braking for Turn 3...:banghead:. In the 2nd race, I just didn't have an answer for the more nimble cars in my Corvette. In both races I did a 1H/8M/6S strategy. My 2nd race was good for 135 points, which replaces Suzuka's 144 points as my lowest score so far of these 4 rounds. I'm skipping the next 2 Manufacturer's races due to my dislike of the tracks (I used to like Le Mans, but I can't find ANY braking points on the track in this game for some reason). I think the rest of this first stage of 10 is going to be similarly unkind to me. I might have the pace for a decent result at Fuji, but I'll probably negate that with a need for an extra pit stop for tires. Maggiore could be promising though.

As for Nations, it turns out I actually had a Gr. 4 Lambo hidden away in my garage all this time that the Wheel of Disappointment gave me a while ago, so I can actually do this weekend's race (I was not going to buy this car just for this race, as I don't like spending credits on a car I don't intend to use regularly). I'm pretty sure it's the easiest car I've ever driven in the Gr. 4 class, and the first car that makes me not actually hate Monza. I might actually put this car into my rotation for when the Corvette is too uncompetitive in the Dailies or other Nations races.

Pushed the @#&* out of the limits on that gr4 rcz. Pulled out a 1:26.2 in qualifying for a 2nd place start. However similar to the eventual heat death of the universe my tires couldn't hold on and I slowly bled positions until I finished out in 5th.

The cool thing about this race was that because of the stupidly long pit stops and varied tire choices it was mostly impossible to figure out where you were going to finish until the final lap.
