P4 in nations. Super happy with that. Good Race, cool Track - fun times.

EDIT: in Manu, Nations went horribly, horribly wrong...

Had a great Manu race tonight! Qualified P3 and just hung back and saved fuel as much as I could for the first 9 laps, by then I was P2 and the leader pitted, so I did one more lap and then stopped for mediums and fuel, came out 3s ahead of P2 and was able to hold the gap for the final two laps. :)

Now to have another go and Nations, attempt #1 didn’t go all that well. Nice and clean though, I effed it up all on my own.

Things were going ok in the Manu race then this happened:

Seriously, WTF Tokyo? What missing from the replay is that there was a random barrel on the track. That apparently is an immovable force. Yet somehow it got moved onto the track. And then somehow got moved off the track a lap later.

I never really recovered from that. By the final lap, I'm P10 but get caught up in bumper car fest when P9 brakes a little early going into T1. I lose 5 positions and finish P15. I wasn't going to run this again as this seems to be a pretty bad track for the Jag but I really feel like I need to now.

Oh yeah, and I think for the next time I try the Manufacturers race, I’m gonna stay on Mediums instead of switching to softs, or at least go longer with the mediums. I tried switching to softs on lap 5, and I just was losing a lot of grip in the last few laps. A terrible experience all around.

Qualified on pole for my 3rd attempt at Nations. I followed a reasonably sized train around and it paid off. I went marginally too deep into the first corner but made it out, the Spaniard in 2nd, Dutchman in 3rd and Portuguese in 4th all made it through neatly, nothing too silly going on. I kept the lead for a lap before the Spaniard passed me, with the Dutch guy going past the next lap. I was the only one of the top runners to start on hards, so I wasn't bothered.

Lap 5 I went a bit deep into the first Lesmo and the Portuguese got alongside me. I was annoyed when he went for the move because it meant the Greek guy in 5th got to catch up and was now in slipstream range. The top 2 were fighting though rather than working together, so we were all still within range of the lead. I was quite surprised by the Spanish guy actually, he seemed a bit shaky when running at the front. I was generally quicker through the back half of the circuit than everyone else, while I lost time through the second chicane and both Lesmos.

Just watching back the replay now, on lap 7 I got a tap from behind by the Dutch guy into turn 1. Portuguese guy got a penalty for it as I was bumped into him. I didn't realise at the time, that was a shame. By lap 7 my tyres were going and the Portuguese, Dutch and Greek guys all pitted. I stayed out, following the Spaniard. We pitted on lap 8, coming out from the first corner of lap 9 running Dutch, Spanish, me, Greek, with the Portuguese having dropped off. We were still as close as we'd been, and the top two were fighting again.

Lap 11 was the best example of the Spanish guy not being very consistent. He was in 2nd going into the first corner and braked far too late. He then got reset pretty much closer to the exit of the chicane than the entrance, and the Dutch guy hit him in the split second where he wasn't ghosted. Looking through the replay there are literally three frames where the car is solid, which is where the contact happens. I'm surprised looking at this actually, I was sure the reset point for that corner was... you know, before the corner. Dutch guy went into the gravel, his race was done. The Greek guy ahead of me also went too deep, but ghosted just as he was re-entering the track so he didn't hit me.

The rest of the race was me following the Spanish guy and gapping the Greek, before my tyres went off on lap 13. I fell out of the slip stream, and finished 3.something seconds behind the Spaniard.

However.

I'd been so fixated on my own race I hadn't really been paying attention during the pits, but I was pretty sure the Spanish guy had gone from Medium to Medium. At the time I genuinely wasn't sure if I was imagining it or not, or if there was a glitch, but since I was pulling away from the Greek guy I thought it'd be smart to not push too hard on close to finished mediums since I was likely to win anyway.

Big up my man @Adam Barber for making me look beautiful. Always read the rules, kiddos. Spanish guy finished 17th.

Well done, that livery is definitely worth an extra half a second a lap.

First attempt at Manu, didn't get a lap time because everyone want to bang into me, I got the penalty.....go figure....started last, ended up 8th. Can I say **** Show!!!!!

You can do a restart for qualifying.

Are you sure they didn't do a 2 stopper? 2 medium stints and a hard stint? Worth checking the replay.

Pit on lap 9 0:50

Damn, missed the end to confirm 1st.

Well, Slot 2 of Nations was better, but still a waste. Had to qualify by myself after my drafting partner screwed up the 2nd chicane, and started 9th as a result. Got punted into the 1st chicane, which spun the car out in front of me, but gave me 2 spots as well as a 1s penalty because I cut the 1st part of the chicane as a result of being punted into the car in front. Everyone around me wanted to win the 1st lap, which let the actual leaders (front 3) run away. I was then stuck with a bunch of people who'd rather battle each other than try to break away from the pack, and ultimately finished 7th after someone dived on me at the 1st Lesmo and sent me into the gravel, which spun me out of 6th place on the last lap. Fortunately there was JUST enough gap to 8th place for me to not lose any more spots. The points aren't good enough for me to sit the next slot out, so I guess we try again...

Another awesome race! Started P3 and just stuck in the draft again, P2 eventually lost it in the 2nd chicane and then it was just me and DNA Lightspeed, I did 7M/8H and he went for a two stop. I had the lead for a while after he stopped and was going steady. I stopped on lap 7 for Hards and came out in 4th. Then all 3 cars ahead pitted again and I was back in the lead. Lightspeed caught me by lap 13 or 14 and I let him by just before the last chicane so we wouldn’t be slowed down by fighting. He had more pace and I didn’t want P3 catching our draft. He pulled away over the final lap and I was able to hold onto P2, it was a really fun and respectful race, a great way to cap the night off. :)

Everything about my Nations entry was garbage. Somebody seemingly actively punted me when my qualifier was going well, and so I started in last. I almost was in 11th but I drop down a few places, then spun out around lap 13 or so on Hards and decided to just ragequit. (Also, dinner was ready.) I’m gonna try again in that final slot. I think I had the 4th-best DR in the lobby, too, and I had 6th-best in the Manufacturers lobby, too. It almost makes me a bit angry the game thinks I can do better.

That was a great race. Rarely do nations but couldn’t resist this one as I love the Lambo Gr4.

Qualified 7th and started on Mediums to do a 7M/8H. Got through T1 without any problems but the the 2 cars in front touched each other and lost speed and I was able to squeeze past into 5th. Had a great race in a little pack with the 2 cars in front, swapping positions and taking turns to lead the slip stream. One car spun leaving the 2 of us. I settled into 3rd for a number of laps. Someone who’d opted to start on Hards had caught us up on his Mediums to join us.

I got a track limit penalty annoyingly on lap 12 and dropped back into 5th. Then bizarrely the car in front pitted for another set of Mediums on lap 13 letting me back past. He couldn’t catch me in time

I was a bit surprised that I was the only person in the two races that I was in to have a pink donut King paint job. It was alot of work but I would consider the Donut King cars to be amongst the best liveries I have ever seen!
I also had a Fluro Green livery I wish I could have used as well.

My bad. I mean 1:56. I time trialled for a while and just can't get comfortable with the car lol.
I have never gone under 2! My best was 2:02.4. I wouldn't worry about sub 1:50's as they were probably done before the BoP issue was fixed.

Manufacturers entry 2/3 also went terribly. Qualified about two seconds off my best time, and it didn’t help I overstepped the boundaries of one of those turns shortly after the u-turn. Then, I pitted during the race, and came out with an SR down and a 4sec penalty, and proceeded to ragequit. I hate this game. I don’t even know if I want to try those last slots for each race. Right now, I feel like beating my PS4 with my controller and throwing both on the ground. My DR is now down over three thousand since trying the FIA races, from 28xxx to 24xxx. I don’t feel like I’m good any anything else, so I don’t know what I can be prideful about if I’m not good at GTS.

It doesn’t help that I’ve also been trying online dating apps for about a week now, and it often feels like a waste of time that only works for attractive women, and if you’re literally anybody else, you’re a paypig for some Silicon Valley sociopath. I really don’t like my life right now.

I meant to race the first slot of Nations, then hop over to Manufacturers', then back to Nations, but I accidentally thought it started at 2pm local time, not 1pm, so I missed that. But, things worked out in the Manufacturers' Championship.

I was ranked 9th in the lobby and for the first two flying laps in qualifying I was stuck behind slower people who wouldn't yield despite making mistakes, clearly ruining their own laps. Eventually though I got past them on the third and final flying lap and secured P2, but I didn't get a tow so I was 0.6s off P1's time. An RCZ was behind me in 3rd place, and I didn't realize just how much of a rocket that thing is in a straight line, by the time we got to T1 he was already on my rear bumper and passing me on the straight. So, I decided to use this to my advantage and draft him to help save fuel. I passed the former leader on lap 2 and spent the next several laps drafting the RCZ. I could catch up in the corners, but even if I wanted to try to overtake, there was no way I could because of the straight-line speed advantage the RCZ had and because I was fuel saving. P3, an Aston Martin, eventually caught up and overtook me and P1 went to pit on lap 6. I followed the Aston around, again taking advantage of the draft for fuel saving. On lap 7, the Aston went to pit, and at the last second I decided to dive into the pits too. This is where the fuel saving came into play. I had 35% fuel remaining, while the Aston only had 10%. I watched the replay and almost no one else in the lobby was fuel saving, so I came out of the pits around 4 seconds ahead of the Aston, and that was with me overfilling by around a lap of fuel just in case I needed to fight. We were both on Mediums, so I knew I wouldn't have to worry about a tire disadvantage. The Aston made a mistake on the next lap and it was a 3 way battle for P2, letting me take my time and win by a 6 second margin. Definitely the highlight of my day and Season so far.

Nations... was a different story. I was ranked 14th in the room. Qualifying went terribly as I was stuck behind a slower player who again wouldn't yield despite making mistakes and would actually take defensive lines into corners. So I ended up qualifying 14th. I decided to start on Hards since I wasn't anywhere near the front of the pack. Come T1, two people at the back forgot what brakes were and divebombed the field. I got punted and received a 1 second penalty for the occasion. I came off better than the others though, one person got punted through the chicane and got a 4 second penalty for "cutting" and another person got punted into the chicane, then onto the dirt. After serving the penalty, it became a recovery race, and I had some good duels until getting back up to P12. That's when I just completely lost focus for a split second and missed my braking point into Ascari, dropping me back to 15th. I ended up "paired" with another player where we bump drafted each other where we could and caught back up to 13th, but then everyone started to pit. I came in on lap 8 for Mediums and was back in 14th. The next lap, the same guy who held me up in qualifying came out of the pits and almost onto the racing line, so I swerved to the inside, only for him to decide to start turning back to the inside, so that almost ended in disaster. From there it was a game of working with the same player to catch back up to 13th, but he eventually fell off; watching the replay showed his tires were shot. I passed 13th, built up a gap, and caught up to 10th and 11th who were dueling majorly, with the faster player being unable to come to terms with track limits. So, I nabbed 11th on lap 14 and finished there. As much as I know I can finish better and there's one slot left, I really, REALLY, do not want to race that race again, because it was so dirty I feel like I need a shower.

So yeah, I think I'm done for today.

I think I’m too upset to even bother with the last slot for each race. I honestly feel like crying.

EDIT: In fact, I may just stop playing GT Sport altogether. I’m wondering if competitively-ranked videogames like this (and Pokémon GO’s ranked PvP) is just too stressful for me at this chapter in my life. I feel like I’m chasing something I can never obtain. So I feel tempted to cut my losses and try putting my effort into something more productive.

2nd Manufacturer's slot: The Gr.4 Corvette is useless. I somehow qualified 10th on a lap without any slipstream help, which put my by far the fastest of the 3 Corvettes. I finished there too, still highest of the Corvettes, and 10s ahead of 11th (also a Corvette) despite running out of fuel several hundred yards from the finish line. An NSX and Cayman I'd been keeping pace with on the Mediums both walked away from me despite fighting each other once all 3 of us switched to softs. I had absolutely nothing for the leaders; the Corvette can't keep up in a straight line against the FWD cars, and is no faster than most of the "handling" cars in a straight line either. It feels like I'm driving one of the GTE/GTLM Corvettes in IMSA after they got nerfed last season because they were almost as fast as the Porsches that IMSA picked to win the championship last season.

Second slot of Manu's went a bit better. I literally had to restart my qualification 3 times but I was finally able to put in a clean lap and started P6.

I decided to start on the RM this time now that I had a good idea of how far I could fuel save on the RS. I did 5 laps on the RM. I lost a couple places misjudging some braking point on the cold tires and pitted in P8. It turned out I could've pitted a lap earlier than I did. At least I had plenty of fuel to to push in the last lap, which I needed as by the last lap there were 4 cars on my tail pretty tight. But I held on for P8. All in all, a bangy but fun race. I'm still finding somebody else for next season, as this Gr4 Jag is not very good at any one thing now.

Nations race at Monza in the Lambos was a fun one... great combo and the Gr4 Huracan is a joy to drive, compared to the Gr3 model. Very clean start, from 4th place, we all played it smart and safe through the first chicane (MIRACLE!!)

But then after some mixing it up, I got caught racing a guy that was clearly dirty, so I didn't take the fight to him, instead let him battle someone else, and hoped that he'd take himself off. It worked! But unfortunately, due to pit stops and the draft, he ended up behind me again. This time, I let someone else take the fight to him, and despite some dirty play in the first chicane (predictable), the brave guy made it out alive and in front of the cheat. So I coasted behind the both of them to a decent payoff, in 6th.

First Manufacturer's Cup race... different story. Qualified decent, not great (though I put in a nice 2:04 in practice tonight!) but didn't mind as I was going to strictly play it safe and come home with a bag full of points. Knew I had to drive defensively at the hard rights at the docks... and it worked perfectly! Was so careful I was able too move up a spot at the first apex... was celebrating my success for a brief moment... only to be absolutely pile-driven as I was spotting the second apex. WTH??!?

Turns out a guy four spots back was asleep at the wheel and blew right past his brake mark, causing a chain reaction. and of course, I took the worst of it, ending up the wrong direction and nearly in last place. Recovered to 11th (just ahead of the moron that caused the lap one problem) and less than acceptable amount of points. Gonna have to run this one again.

At this point I was the only driver in both my races without a red dot next to my name at the end. Keeping it clean.

Try#2, qualified 5th, better, and stuck to the same 7M/5S tire strategy (not sure that was best). Mostly clean, but this time I was sandwiched between two red/one-bar spazoids, making it impossible to get ahead, and holding me up on the first stint. I couldn’t make out where the heck either one was due to the lagging, and it really slowed me down and hurt my track position while I was trapped between the two. Bummer. Also ruined by clean race streak when checking fuel economy- I hit a guardrail while fumbling through the display... stupid. Served but 1.5sec penalty without losing a place, but as I was on my last lap before pitting, surely it cost me at least one position, likely two, as I gave it up to the fellow I split when returning to the track.

But in the end, another decent point haul, for 8th place in a high-B lobby where I was door #15: thankful I was in a higher-rated lobby again for the second race (some A drivers in there), to maximize the scoring, now that a second race is included in the rankings. Yeah, it was my worst result in the Cayman so far, but I've moved up in rank quite a bit the last two weeks and should expect it to get tougher.

Having a blast driving the FIA races, and trying to move up in the ratings. Nine straight days of increased DR (a record for me) and keeping the SR pegged without incident. Banging on the door to A rating (again). But Circuit de la Sarthe looms... not my strongest track.

Last Nations slot: Q9 F8. Had a largely clean race, but kept making a bunch of small mistakes in the chicanes. 6th-8th were separated by less than 1s at the finish. I actually expected to be contending for wins in this one, since I'd been less than 1s off of the best time on the North American leaderboard, but it looked like most of the fastest drivers never set a time after the leaderboard was reset, so maybe I got my hopes up for nothing. I got 164 points for my trouble, but I'm hoping I can get some better results towards the end of this stage.

Tomorrow, I’m going to gently place the GTS disk back in its case, where it will stay indefinitely. I’m done. I can’t do this anymore. This is the second time in a month or so that I’ve been in tears over losing in GTS. I’m done with ranked multiplayer in general, even.

Yeah, I am in the Corvette too. They have it so detuned the FWD cars pull away on the straights, even in their draft. Then it isn’t tuned well enough to make it back in the turns. Fun to drive, but BOP is off a bit.

I also pitted with 6 laps left, fueled up with 6 laps worth of fuel and proceeded to run out of fuel with 800-1000 feet or so to go, just before the last turn. Dropped from 7th to 10th coasting to the finish line.

Well, my night of disappointment is now complete. I finally had a slipstream in qualifying for Tokyo (though I did catch the car I was slipstreaming and ended up giving it a bump-draft on the run to the hairpin), and qualified 6th, still more 1s off of pole. Started on Mediums planning to do the 5M/7S that I did in every other race prior to this, then spent about 1/4 of the race playing pinball with the walls and getting a 1.5s penalty as I understeered into the wall at the right-hand kink just before the run to the hairpin. I ultimately finished 11th after playing more pinball with the walls and a Jaguar in the final sequence of corners. 120 points might as well be 0.

I'm really not looking forward to either of the races for Round 6. I can't ever find a braking marker for the Mulsanne chicanes (why are the distance boards so small???) or follow anything even remotely resembling a proper racing line through the Porsche Curves. I also just despise the Nurburgring GP circuit, but I at least know how to get around it. I'll wait to see what the Meta is for that race, then decide whether or not I race based on how much I like driving it.

So - FIA Rd. 5

Nations Cup

1st slot - qualified P14, after I was stupid enough to go on my own. T1 was chaos, somehow I managed to get through, was in P11 but got a SR down. Then several times I was in a boxing bag for other idiots that can't brake when is needed. In the end I finished 12th.

2nd slot - qualified 10th, decent banker lap 1st, then in the 2nd I was improving my time with 7 tenths and on the way to 3rd. I was seeing the finish line when the two idiots in front started to push each other, they lost control and hit me too. Passed the finish with my front pointing to the wrong direction. Then start was ok - after 1st lap was in 6th and was hoping to get a good result. A French idiot dived me at the 2nd chicane, then I passed him and next lap in the same spot he dived me again and left me no space in 2nd turn putting me in the sand. I was so angry - I was in 11th, the race was again pretty much ruined. I caught him up and then I saw him taking out 2 other cars right in front of me. I was fed up, I passed him up on the straight after the 1st chicane and ruined his rhythm by scraping my paint all over his left side, then in the last lap he passed me on the start straight and I have send him right to Narnia in T1. Finished the race in P12.

3rd slot - messed up quali, started in P16. Then at the start, as I was lining up for T1 I was completely destroyed by one of the cars behind. Dead last and with 5s gap - race was over. I only put some clean laps and finished 14th.

As 2 races are now counted - I have 213points and sit 3rd in the Romanian leaderboards. Is not a "real" 3rd place, as some heavy hitters still missing but I am in my objective.

Manufacturers - Alfa

1st slot - due to the 1st slot at Monza, my SR was 82 so I was in a mixed room that only could get me 74 points for victory. My only goal was not to loose DR and improve my SR over 90. In quali I was the slowest from the A drivers(7th) but managed to have a good race and finish 4th. Had a nice 3 laps battle at the end with a Spaniard driving an Audi - but the straight line speed of the TT was too much for my Alfa.

2nd slot - this was one of the most exciting races I had in a lot of time. I put a mediocre quali - 2.05.1 to start in P9. I had a plan- start on Softs, use the slipstream of the power cars to stay with the front group and save fuel then push as hard as possible in the last laps. I executed perfectly, I improved my starting position after the docks in lap1 when 2 cars in front got penalties. The race was split in 3 groups - top2 cars(Audi and Toyota) broke slipstream and put a 2s gap, then a 6 car group (with me in P7), then at around 3s behind - another 7-8car group. The Ferrari and Lambo which lead my group were keeping a good rhythm and after 3-4 laps we already lost 3 cars on the way and had a more than 5s gap in front. Then, in lap7 on the slower turn before the finish line they started to fight - ending up both scraping the wall and getting penalties. I was on a good exit, darted in front and broke slipstream in the dock area. I was 3rd - there was no reason for shortshifting anymore so I started to push hard. In lap8, both cars in front pitted, which left me leader with a 10s gap. Managed to extend it to 12s until I got in the pits next lap for Mediums and about 2 laps of fuel. I got out of the pits just to see the lead Toyota pass me and by the end of the fast turns he was 2.5s ahead. Behind, the Audi was closing. I was putting up pressure on the Toyota, which made him screw up and scrap a wall, getting a 1.5s penalty. Audi is passing me on the straight to the docks, but gets a 0.5s penalty at the docks. We both pass the Toyota in the penalty zone - and I am trying to stay as close as possible - as the Audi's penalty was to be served in the last lap. I close in the fast 3-4 corners at the end of the lap, being on his bumper, but I am no match on the straight and he is putting a 0.7s gap till we get to the docks. There, I start closing, but I made a small mistake - enough that he serves his penalty and still manages to be first in the right hander after. I am following close, losing on the straight but being back on his bumper in the fast corners after the pits. We both take last turn perfectly, but on the straight to the finish the Audi is superior and takes the win. I finished P2 - 0.7s behind and take a nice 165points home. Combined with the P3 from Laguna Seca - is enough to get me in P43 in Alfa Romeo leaderboards.

As a bonus, I am over 36k DR, which is highest I have ever been. And I am still holding my own in most races.

Here's me bottling 288 point finish :( I was expecting to pass him on the back straight but he moved just a bit away from the wall and i pushed him forward. The fuel message disappeared so i assumed i had plenty. Very confused.

there's some swearing in the party chat in the bg sorry, spoiler tags.

In the end I raced again and the lobby was only worth 255 for a win. Too bad :(
