Also: anyone ever notice their heart rate when racing in the FIA races?! I’ve noticed that mine goes to about 105 bpm or just over, during the race— compared to a resting rate that sometimes falls under 50. I wear an Apple Watch so the data is available and I took a look to see how pumped up I get during the race. I actually have been trying to keep it down to better control my performance!

From last nights IndyCar race. I’d say you’re still pretty calm by racer standards.

Some other notes on that clean Q15/P8 at St. Croix last night:
-My door number was 17! I'd say that's fair, considering it was my first race since breaking into DR A.
-I gained two positions from my pit strategy alone, being a no-stopper on Hards. In fact, I plan to go on harder compounds without stopping for similar races, where there may be multiple compounds available, but only one is required. Even if the pit stop is fast, and not like at Le Sarthe.

I know the that Nations Cup race with the tune-able Fugu Z isn't until next Saturday, but I'm still excited to discuss the tunes with everyone.

Almost had a very good result considering my starting position but ended up getting punted on the last lap at the hairpin which cost me about 4 positions. He did slow up and apologise afterwards but was a little bit frustrating. But ah well that's racing I guess

Just caught up on IndyCar and was more pissed off at what happened near the end there than this

Went again in Manu. Started 8th, finished 8th. Should've been fighting for the win, but for divebombers (my favourite was a Porsche launching it at the chicane after the bridge) and my car randomly ****ing understeering after the long back straight into the fast left/right kink. I honestly don't know whether I'm angrier at myself or the game.

I thought I recognised your name yesterday as a GTP member, 2nd time I've seen a GTP name I recognise in sport mode. I was the guy in the Spoon Sports liveried NSX, Had a nice little battle with your GTR for few a laps too, good clean racing  (apologies if there was any contact made, can't remember now 👍).

I think I know which Porsche you're on about, I saw his ambitious dive-bomb on you after the bridge, impatient on his part to say the least... I spent most of the race trying to fend off a groups of 3 Caymans myself, and said guy above was a bit aggressive on a few occasions to myself and a few others around me too. Eventually a mistake into the 2nd to last corner on Lap 6 allowed me to get along side him into the last corner. I though I got past, but a bump and run from him sent me into the wall coming onto the main straight, losing myself 3 places in the process. Thankfully the angry Cayman driver got the penalty and made a mistake a few corners later allowing me past (karma).

In the end I managed to catch back up to the Fin and German in the other Caymans and enjoyed a fair tussle, before we pitted together on Lap 7 for hards. I noticed you pitted a lap earlier yourself, and were catching quickly, and given the events that happened in the race to yourself earlier, you were very unlucky, definitely worth a higher finish. In the end I finished less than a tenth behind the Fin in the Cayman, as the German Cayman guy earned himself a penalty on the last corner of the last lap to gift us a place.

Overall a very enjoyable race, wasn't expecting the NSX to perform as solidly as it did around St Croix and for things to go so smoothly, so to get my 3rd best points finish of the season is a pleasant surprise. Certainly makes up for the car crash of an event I had at Brands previously :banghead:.

I was in the Manu race with you and Mobilmasher. We had some really great clean racing until I got taken out. Needless to say I was really "salty" at the end. I know it was a mistake but it shouldn't have happened. But all-in-all it was a fun race. Lets do it again sometime.

Watched the replay and saw what happened to you. It was weird, I think that MikieFist guy lagged and it was a bit distracting, and then you and the IceQew guy touched. Looked hard to assign the blame, probably a 'racing incident' but bummer for you. I do remember seeing the gap jump and wondered what happened now, I just figured someone went wide.

I also checked to see how the 2nd place guy IceQew managed to close the big gap on me on the last lap after I pitted. I thought he must have undercut me with a stop for tires with 2 to go (which is a good strategy from 2nd place in the circumstance), but he was on Hards the whole race. Kudos to him for giving that a go, but I think it proves the one-stop was best, since we are pretty close in pace, and the grip I had on the last lap made the difference. It also explains why he conceded the corner to me when we were 3-wide midway thru... I fully expected him to challenge me for the lead immediately but it never came. Now I see why.

Yeah, to be fair... those guys are physically working the cars pretty hard too! No power steering, 4 G's, actual fear of bodily harm... no comparison! It's really amazing that they race for 2-3 hours at those heart rates. Comparable to a half marathon or more. They definitely are athletes.

Ugh. Started 11th when I could not get a draft, guy who was on pole was towing me on lap three and maybe he realized it and bailed, disappearing into the pits. Worked my way up to 5th by staying out of trouble, switched to hards last lap and had never practiced with them, struggle. Had some lag still going on and cold hard tires, went off at that first left turn, My fault, then got banged around trying to get back on, dropped to 10th.

in the N500 race I tried the SFR since it felt decent in practice, just had a huge push off power, but it proved to be a second a lap slower than the ridiculous 440+ horsepower 2100 pound motorcycle car that hates going straight. Bounced around like a pinata between 7th and 20th. 7th was fun until someone felt like my bumper would help them brake later, I got a 1 second penalty for hitting the wall after getting punted. Fought back from 20th to 14th.

Tell me again why I keep doing these?

Slot 1: messed quali, P12 -> P10.
Slot 2: messed quali even more, p16 -> p15
Slot 3: decent quali, shunted into the gravel lap 1, p10 -> p20 -> p8.

Lots of roughed up racing this round. Lack of patience and fights over pointless spots.

In the last slot though after getting shunted down to p20 I ended up working with DNA_OnS, who was in p19 at the time, and we were able to make up tons of places just by not fighting and giving each other slipstream back and forth. Really goes to show how sometimes it’s better to save the battles for later when they count more.

It was a pleasure racing with you as well. Wish I could have helped more once you got by, I just didn’t have the legs to nudge you along. Hope to do that with you again soon!

OnS is a treasure, if he's racing he's streaming. Check him out at:

Awwww! *blush* haha

Thanks for the link; followed. Was a pleasure racing alongside some of your crew 👍 Very clean, very smart driving.

Thanks for the follow!

FIA Manufacturers Series @ Saint-Croix A - Gr.4 - Slot 2

After dealing with my brake pedal issue, I was satisfied with the result in this race. Performance was compromised a bit because of the different pedal tension from the spring replacement. Brake went from very loose to very rigid pedal feeling, but I am happy that I got to race.

SUMMARY: got #15 on the door, qualified 10th and got the M4 across the finish line in 9th.

THE SETUP: FM 1, BB +2, TCS 0

THE STRATEGY: 7M/1H for tires and not to make any stupid moves.

THE QUALIFYING: L1 clocked in enough for 6th place after wasting some time negotiating a takeover on a slower car. Second lap was not better. P10 was it.

THE RACE: One of the most fun and competitive races I can remember! Four cars, from P7-P10, formed a separate block and we traded places back and forth without any incidents. Amazing to watch the replay and see how close we were to each other for most of the race and how everyone put out their best race craftsmanship on display. On L8, the four cars headed to the pits together and came out same order. I was in 11th place but in a good move manage to pass one car on a left turn and another in the following right turn. Finished in 9th.

On to Willow Springs...

.

It's just a little hard to take when you go out of your way to race clean. I had MobilMasher coming up on my really fast, so I just put on my blinker to let him know it was safe to go around me. I know mistakes happen, but this occurs way too much. I was so mad ant the end of the race I even forgot to save the replay. Oh well, on to the next demolition derby.:banghead:

I saved the replay. I'll reshare it later when I get on for the Supra race.
Also have shared it on my GT profile page... even if I hadn't won, the good close racing midway and on the last lap was fun to watch, but of course I had to brag a bit by sharing it! It was fun that a Mustang, Porsche, GTR, and Jaguar were all so closely matched over the whole course, hats off to the PD guys for the BoP, people like to beat up on the changes when they happen but I think it's really good how close so many of the cars are. I think they even bumped the Cayman down a bit in power, last adjustment, which definitely was a fair move given how strong they still were at that St Croix track- no complaints. Good luck in Rd 13 and Supra event at Sarthe, hope to race with you guys again.

Qualified at P1 which I was happy about because this car suffers on the long straights but cornering speed here makes up for it a little. I knew I wasnt gonna to hold 1st and dropped down to 3rd so just wanted to keep a good pace and slipstream in 3rd then make a move later in the race as it was just the three of us running away from the rest off the field. Didnt work out as I spun the car from getting too wide and not letting off sooner, lucky for me I only lost one position and ended the race with another 4th place finish.

Kudos to PD for getting the matching right also. The majority of my races recently I was matched with people of equal skill and speed, the deciding factor in most of my races have been mistakes made by me and my competition.

Also: anyone ever notice their heart rate when racing in the FIA races?!

I don’t have a smart watch, but my heart rate definitely gets up there during a good race. :)

I'm really glad I'm not the only one whose heart rate goes up during a race, I thought it was just me being too nervous/anxious.

Ended up doing two of both races last night because although my first rounds were decent results, I thought I could do better.

Race 1: Nations, 1st time slot

I got placed in a higher-split lobby than usual, 1st place was 222 points. I chose the 911 because it wasn't as unstable as the X-Bow was but still had the power in the straights. The SF-R was just too slow in the straights and in a practice race I was absolutely destroyed by 911s and X-Bows when I was driving one. I had a bad qualifying session, as I decided I wanted to try to slipstream people, but the track was absolutely packed, so even though qualifying is now 10 minutes, my first 2 laps were wasted and I couldn't nail a good lap in the last 3, not helped by tire wear. So, I started 14th, over a second behind what I knew I could lap comfortably.

On race start, the power advantage the 911 had showed and I was able to overtake an SF-R into the first corner, but I lost the place due to catching up to an X-Bow who had the line for the T2-T3 complex and the SF-R followed the X-Bow through. I passed the SF-R again out of the downhill chicane, but the SF-R came back on the inside of the final corner and I backed out otherwise they would've gone into me. I braked too early into T1 and the SF-R passed o the outside, while an X-Bow passed on the inside. I got squeezed by another SF-R out of the T2-T3 complex and lost two more places, before passing the SF-R again and getting past an X-Bow that passed me. All this chaos let the SF-R that I was originally racing grow a gap, which I then closed, and with no further traffic ahead, finally stuck a pass on. Things stayed uneventful for the next several laps as I was closing the gap to the group ahead. I passed someone with a penalty, and again things were uneventful for another few laps until I caught up to 12th and passed them into T1, although they came back at me into T2. We were side-by-side heading into the downhill chicane, and I decided to bluff them into backing off, which they did, an although they were sticking with me, I was able to keep the position. Things again remained uneventful until I passed another person with a penalty for 11th. After a few more laps, on lap 12, we caught up to the group ahead, and I passed a 911 that went wide into T1. On the next lap, I overtook a 911 that had a penalty, so I finished in 9th.

Because I got placed in a higher-split lobby than usual (222 points), I still scored 148 points, which was my 3rd highest result in Nations. However, I knew that I could've placed higher, but my low starting position and time lost fighting at the back held me up. So, I decided to go again. But first...

Race 2: Manufacturers, 1st time slot

After how high of a split I was in for Nations, I thought I would also find myself in a high Manufacturers split as well, but instead, it was a 190-ish point lobby. I was initially planning on skipping this because the only time I've raced on St. Croix was the Circuit Experience. However, after some practice, I found that, although the track has a really weird flow, it's a flow that I liked, so I went ahead and competed. Despite all of the straights, I decided to qualify alone because I was afraid of catching up to the person ahead and ruining my lap. I was the first out of the pits and just hammered it, although I made a mistake on the 1st flying lap, letting the person behind pass me. However, they then made a mistake on their 2nd flying lap, which luckily didn't affect me, and I got some slipstream for a little bit of the lap, allowing me to qualify 4th.

On race start I was up on the bumper of the RC-F in front of me, and I wanted to make a feint into T6, but got the braking wrong and ended up accidentally going for the move instead, which didn't work out, slowed me down, and let the guy behind catch up. A gap opened up though to the people behind and I was back on the RC-F's tail again, but I couldn't find a way by. The RC-F and a Cayman ahead scuffled, which let an NSX catch up to us, as I again couldn't find a way past. I ended up losing a spot to the NSX as I came out of the 2nd to last corner the worst. The RC-F got by the Cayman on Lap 3, and the Cayman got a 1 second penalty from contact. However, coming into the chicane before the hairpin and bridge, I accidentally braked too late and ran wide, giving me a time penalty as well. So, I passed the Cayman, the NSX passed me, and then I made a mistake into T4 letting the Cayman pass me again and an Evo to be right on my tail on Lap 4. I was able to pull a gap to the Evo and keep up with the cars ahead, but small mistakes here and there, such as apexing a corner wrong, meant I couldn't close the gap completely. On Lap 7 the RC-F and Cayman started fighting again, and the Cayman messed up the chicane after the bridge, putting me right up against their bumper. I tried going for a pass on the final corner but couldn't make it stick, and because we both needed to pit, I had to lift off to make it into the pit lane. An M4 was right behind us, obviously pitting earlier and on Mediums as they closed the gap very quickly. I was getting held up by the Cayman up front, which let the M4 pass me. So, I came home in 6th at 156 points. I thought I could do better if I didn't make mistakes, so I decided I'd go again. However...

Race 3: Nations, 2nd Time Slot

I got placed in a lower split lobby, where 1st place was 185-ish points. So, I felt pressure to deliver a solid result to exceed the 148 points I got in the last race. In qualifying I secured pole position on my first flying lap in clean air and couldn't best it, but neither could anyone else.

At the race start, I wanted to build a gap, so I decided to push, even though it may bite me later with tire wear and fuel use. However, little did I know was the 911 behind me was a rammer, who rammed me off at the final corner of Lap 1. How I didn't completely lose control of the car I have no idea, but I carried on and passed him back on lap 5. He decided to try the same thing, but I was expecting it and went wide. Although I still lost 1st, I was in second and alive. The rammer decided to punt the guy behind me, which punted him into me, which punted me into 1st place, leaving me and the now-second place X-Bow with damage and the former lead X-bow with a 1 second penalty. But, for once in my life, the penalty system actually worked, and the rammer got a 4 second penalty, meaning us up front didn't have to worry about him anymore. So, with half the race over and me still in second, with an X-Bow close up front and a 911 close behind, I decided to see if I could get 1st place back. The gap grew to 3rd and closed to 1st. I tried to pass on the inside coming out of the final corner, but accidentally oversteered into 1st and bumped him. Luckily he didn't spin all the way around so I let off the gas to not take 1st away from him. This let the 911 behind us pass, me, but out of T1 I got a little too enthusiastic with the gas, letting 3rd place overtake me and 1st to have a 2 second gap. The lead 911 messed up the downhill chicane so we all went past, and although I was able to close the gap again to the first 2 X-Bows, the tire wear on my rear tires were starting to kick in, and by the next lap that gap was slowly opening back up. Furthermore, another X-Bow behind me caught up, and I was able to defend for 2 laps, but eventually they got past and sailed off into the distance. With a large gap behind, I settled in for 4th place, netting 164 points. I got a much better result than the last race so I'm happy. I probably could have fought for the win without the rammer and my mistake, but this points haul gave me an extra 20 points to my total, so I'm still satisfied.

Race 4: Manufacturers, 2nd Time Slot

Again, for qualifying, I went out alone, and although I got a worse laptime than the first race, I still qualified 4th again.

At race start, the SLS behind me was really bothering me, and the Atenza that qualified on pole by some margin was falling behind rapidly, falling back to P3 right in front of me only about a third of the way though the lap. The Atenza and an SLS ahead started fighting and were side by side into the chicane, and I backed off because I didn't want to crash, which let the SLS behind me pass me and an M4 to catch up to my rear bumper. At T1 on the next lap I tried to feint the SLS into a pass but again messed the feint up. Even though I did end up getting a better exit, the SLS was right there at corner exit so I couldn't capitalize on it. The SLS and I ended up passing the Atenza into T8 on Lap 2. I passed on the inside and the Atenza ended up going into the gravel. Watching the replay, I will defend that I was on the inside rightly, stayed tight enough, and the Atenza turned into me slightly, which caused the contact. This allowed the M4 behind me to also pass the Atenza, and they passed me into the hairpin before the bridge. The top 4 started pulling away from me and the Atenza was keeping up with me and attempted a pass into the hairpin before the bridge on Lap 4. However, they went in too deep and I got the cutback. Then, the Atenza got a time penalty into the chicane after the bridge, which meant I could relax a bit. The little battle with the Atenza meant I dropped out of slipstream range of the M4, but by the end of Lap 5 I had caught back up. The 458 that was in the lead and now in second place made a mistake coming out of T6 on Lap 7, allowing the M4 to pass but blocking me. However, the M4 ran wide into the chicane before the hairpin and bridge, getting a time penalty. This allowed the 458 and I to pass him on the straight before the final corner. Everyone pitted for Hards and despite going slowly through some corners, letting the M4 catch up to me, I was able to defend to the line, finishing 4th for 172 points, my 4th highest points haul. I definitely felt better about this race, and my points haul was good, so I was satisfied with the result.

Onto the Supra Cup! Whose forum is dead right now...

Tell me again why I keep doing these?

Because it is fun!

I had MobilMasher coming up on my really fast, so I just put on my blinker to let him know it was safe to go around me.

Some times I believe that some racers don't understand how to read or use their blinkers.

I'm also going to have to eat a little crow here. I went back and watched your replay and I clearly came across IceQew's nose. He had no where to go. I sincerely apologize to IceQew for calling him out the way I did after the race.

Keith.

Luckily MobilMasher and I have raced against each other quite a few times. He seems to know how I drive and also my intentions.

Well, after 2 Gr.4 rounds since the BoP update, I can say that the Gr.4 Mazda is alllllmooooost where it needs to be. It lost a little weight recently, but could still use another 1% power.

For the first time ever, I've been able to remain somewhat competitive in the 2nd split lobbies using the Gr.4 Atenza. I didn't get a good result last night, first it was a P6 finish for 225 points after qualifying P3 and getting punted at T2 of the first lap which gave me a penalty and sent me down to P10...so I went again and only got 215 due to my own mistakes, then called it a night. I had the pace for a podium finish, but the drama was too real in 2nd split with all the desperation, so I was done.

Even though the top speed is still a bit weak, you can out-accelerate a lot of cars due to the AWD, which gives you the ability to get on the throttle super early. And now that slipstream is weakened, you have a chance of actually holding the position after an overtake. Tire wear is still a little worse than it should be compared to FR cars, but it has improved and that helps.

Saturday's round is Gr.4 at Interlagos, which should be an even better test. I know the Atenza can qualify really well there if I put together a good lap and maybe catch a draft. In the past I could qualify high, then just drop off after 2 or 3 laps due to tire wear. With slip reduced, tire wear reduced and the weight of the car reduced...I might have a chance for a podium at least, which would be an amazing improvement for the Gr.4 Mazda.

Ah, yes. The last lap on mediums in the GT-R was pretty much useless unless you had a clear run at it. The amount of fighting I was doing would have been a disaster, so I went for the undercut. And got held up so it didn't work. I was so raging after the race I didn't save the replay or spend too long thinking about it, but I think you were okay. I enjoyed the livery too.

Question here:

I lowered my practice time at Big Willows by 0.1sec, saved the replay, but GTS did not update my new time on the board!

Watch the replay again, and no penalties, nothing, but it still shows the slower lap!

Any thoughts!? Just curious.

EDIT: seems like a one-off thing. Go figure!

Alright... who's up for the TT Cup race at Dragon's Trail?!? I can't imagine it's going to be TT vs TT save but for a few brave or loyal racers. I love that track, though, and it's just as fun in reverse. Gonna be elbows out, though, because if we're all in those TT's, there isn't going to be much separating everyone. I might try the Cayman out just to see if I can keep pace with the TT, but I think the TT will be such a good race car that it's not a good idea, if they are close in speed. Especially since if you're the anti-META, people seem to gang up on you, taking you for a dummy or something.

And quite a contrast, from the narrow and walled confines of the Chicane of Death (or the Chicane of Moderate Annoyance as I think I saw it named in the reverse?) to the vast Desert of Misjudged Talent at Big Willow. While I like that track, I wonder if it's gonna be a brutal Gr3 race, as there are plenty of places to shove a guy off and end his chances. That's a pity, though, because the track itself is really rewarding to drive, when you aren't looking in your rear view mirror the whole time. While I have been enjoying the Porsche 911 RSR this season, I really like the smooth and low end power of the Vette at Willow Springs. I expect the Chevy guys will do well there.

Glad there's a couple of fun ones on deck for the mid-week events, because I'm no good at Interlagos and Tokyo East Outer Loop in a road car... yeah, that's gonna be trouble. Might be just fine with missing those two races over Father's Day weekend...

Pretty decent week: first FIA win at St Croix, moved into top 10 in my state, nudged my K' Speed Score over 70 finally, and ended the weekend at a new all-time high again after a totally wild, clean and fun Daily Race at Dragon's Trail Seaside in my favorite Porsche (miracle! will post that on the other page)... just a race's score away from that A rating. Let's see if I don't mess it up for the 3rd time! But I like the next two FIA races, so feeling good about it.

I like my Group 4 Ferrari’s chances against the TT’s. Only a handful of laps to practice, but it might be a bit of a sleeper in the bottom of the barrel A group races.

Looks like a 1 stop in the range of 10m/5h to 12m/3h will be the go to tomorrow night for Nations(in a TT Cup), still have to test out the Citroen tonight.

Edit: 7M/7M/1H is pretty close time wise, but if you lose the draft it’s gonna be really hard to get it back.

Well, I think I’ll be running Nations with the Viper or Scirocco. My best Viper time in Time Trial is 1:48.405. I’ll test the Scirocco tomorrow, since I can’t be bothered to buy the TT or RCZ.

As for Manufacturers, my best time with the Alfa is 1:12.283. The race will probably be the longest 20 minutes of my life as I constantly struggle to avoid going on great excursions at Sector 2 or the final corner. This is gonna suck.

Well for tomorrow's Nations I'm staying away from all those sacrilegious FF cars and taking my Merc for a spin. And after spying on a lobby full of Peugeots then having a one hour test myself, I quite fancy my chances!

It’s a full second slower per lap then the TT/RCZ, and the tires don’t last longer enough to make up for it. I can still get 10-12 or so laps out of the TT before starting to lose more than 1s a lap.
