You guys have thoroughly scared me out of running the Bathurst race tonight. Just when I was content with giving it a go and taking whatever happens, the prospects of donating 1000 DR and who knows how many SR, just to run it with little odds to improve on my current FIA standings, doesn't add up. And I don't voluntarily sit out races, ever- I only miss a round when I am not at home. But this may be one to sit out.

It's a shame, as I would like the challenge, but I don't know if the unique nature of this track, with difficult cars to handle, offer anything but a road to horrors based on the reports here so far... as you've pointed out: to run fast, you have to be prudent in the approach to the turns on top of the mountain, but I can see being rammed into the walls and getting the SR hits for idiots' mistakes behind me, and don't fancy running the whole race in my mirror.

For the most part it was alright in my race, it was all respectful except for the guy who pushed me wide at T2 (I reckon it was some revenge for me beating him in a lobby pre-race!). If you do have to watch your mirrors, any dive bombs will go straight on, and because you have to get on the brakes early you'll see them coming a long way off then can just cut back inside

Anyway, I miss enough races out of choice so I'm nobody to talk! But my experience of Bathurst (which was my first real race around there) was pretty decent and I'd happily go again

Very happy with a 5th place on the mountain, despite qualifying 3rd.

Q3 best of the rest at almost 2 seconds off 2nd place. I was a little too cautious on the inside going into T1 and lost 2 positions. Gained one back heading up the hill, only to lose 4th again around lap 6 with a small mistake coming over the top.

Ah well, it was a clean,fun, fast and furious 8 laps and I'm tempted to go again, but will probably sit on the 136 points which actually becomes my 5th highest score of the season.

Mixed A/S (17), B/S (3) lobby. I was door #7 and gained 800 DR up to 34.9K

First attempt at Nations didn’t go well. I qualified 19th with #18 on the door and finished 18th. (Spinning out on lap 5 after a tire caught the grass contributed to that.) Lost 1K DR as a result.

On the bright side, there was little carnage to my surprise and I went in expecting the worst. Hopefully, that trend continues in my next shot at this.
 
Just finished Nations, had to run the mountain...... not particularly fast there but just love the course. Had a decentish race until I messed up coming down the mountain curves, that gave the guy 4 seconds behind me chance to catch up. Kept him behind for most of last lap but he was quick (I was slow) and ended up side by side flying down the last straight. Me defending the inside... CONTACT I swerve left, right, downshift, stomp the brake and just manage to keep it on track. He goes past absolutely no thought of giving the position back. Guess he's not one of the cleaner racers on these boards. And he's not simply almazing...

Hey ho, small DR gain for a 9th placed and on to Manu in the TT:sly:
 
One and done for Nations tonight! Ended up in top split again, didn’t qualify well, but I got in a few lucky passes on the first lap and somehow managed to hold onto it until the end. It was a fun race with lots of friendly faces in the lobby. :)

Nations first, and being punted at the end of Conrod ruined my best qualifying lap putting me back in 19th which seems to be behind 20 on the grid, and announced last! I manage to get into 10th after T1 with a 1sec penalty. Then picked up another 2 on the mountain for nothing, those 3 seconds put me right back again but I eventually finished in 3rd around 6 seconds away from 1st. If I had qualified well...if I had avoided the penalty...if I had a million dollars...I decided I was happy with recovering a race from the back to the podium.

Manufacturers, and the Atenza was fast, another no stop race, had to battle hard but clean to secure an 8th place win from a mid pack qualifying position. I much prefer this version of the circuit to the others - not too short or too long.

A good days racing leaving happy and with a boost in SR back to 99 and DR up after each race.
 
The nations did hit my SR with my Penalty on last lap, and continued my DR trend, so we’ll see how Manu goes!

Not that I’m keeping track at this point, for anymore than an idea of my lobbies lol. But brings more fun that way!

Hope too see people on the grid!
3seconds off Pigems for a lap sounds about right for my tier :)

edit - oh no, got the black screen thing on warmup! Hope it magically goes away before race!

I was able to race yay! Started 19th. Out back there were several people swerving across the whole track to ram people! Holy moly lol! Took me 3 laps to get by with a huge penalty too.

Eventually worked up to p10, 10second gap to p9, so a lonely 4 laps or so finish.

Atenza was fine on no stopper + tire abuse :)

careful out there! They are out for blood!

I knew I didn’t have one lap speed with the 458, but wasn’t disappointed with 11th.

Race started off. Had a guy who was stuck a few rows in front. Laggy as could be and had to essentially wait for the countdown to run out to start. We didn’t fall behind much though. Clean race outside of a RCZ who’d run out of tires early and was making a mess of himself, which held some up even further. That allowed me to get up to 3rd before pitting on lap 10 (would’ve gone a lap longer but I ran wide in the final hairpin). Out in like 9th or 10th. And crossed the line in 7th. Good race. Not a massive result, but another “Top Ferrari Award”.
 
Well, I just totally boned myself out of my first FIA victory.

One of the things about losing ~5K DR in a week is that I feel like I'm actually fast when I get back to a combo I like. Like today's Manu. I was comfortably in 2nd by around 2.5 sec at the end of L10 when I understeer into the grass coming out of the last turn. My lead over P3 is down to about 1.5 sec going into the T1. I then get a 1 sec track penalty at the chicane at the bottom of the hill. Going into the final turn my lead over P3 is about 1.3. I downshift hoping to get some acceleration out of the penalty. Turns out I should've downshifted twice. P3 & P4 go by me right before the finish line. Turns out P1 did a no-stop on RS, which is probably why he was 10 sec ahead of me. So, my P4 becomes a P3.

I blow a 2.5 sec lead in the final lap and miss out on the win. :banghead: The points are meaningless, even if I had won, my DR was so low. But still.

I'll run it again, probably get placed with decently fast people and finish P10 or something. By then, most of them will probably figure out they should run a no-stop, too.

First Manufacturer's race had me matched with 3 other Corvettes, plus @Razgriz2118 in his Cayman. Ultimately qualified 6th, with 2nd through 17th separated by less than 1s, and pole (in a TT of course) 0.3s clear of 2nd place. Not only did I qualify 1st of the 4 'Vettes, but I was the first of the cars without a driven front axle (all 4 of the FF cars, plus an AWD Evo qualified in front of me) :lol:!

During the race, the car that qualified 4th lost a place about halfway through the lap, and for the next 1.5 laps held me up (he was clean, just not as fast as me). He then pitted on Lap 2 to shed his Mediums. After being held up by the TT on a completely different strategy from the rest of us at the front, I now had almost a 3-second gap to the lead pack (minus the leader, who of course ran away from everyone). I matched the pace of the lead pack, but could do nothing about the gap. When I saw 2nd place pit at the end of Lap 8, I decided to follow them in and hope that fresh Mediums would allow me to catch the rest of them when they pitted. 3rd place pitted at the end Lap 9, and split me and the former 2nd place car, entering the track much closer to me than he'd been before the pit stops, so it appeared my attempt at an undercut had almost worked. The new 2nd place car pitted at the end of Lap 10 and entered the track even closer to me still. Unfortunately that's as close as I got to attempting a pass and had to settle for 5th and 185 points, which is only 3 more than my current lowest "counted" score. Since 3 of the 4 FF cars, plus the Evo that started and finished 2nd, were the cars ahead of me, I was still the highest-placed 'Vette and car without a driven front axle! :lol:
 
It was a pleasure seeing @GTWolverine (had to edit the post to tag you because I used your PSN lol) in Manufacturer's today! Not that I saw them at all, because I was at the back the entire time.

I really don't know what it is anymore, I feel like I've just completely dropped off the pace. I felt really good when practicing, but I got my butt handed to me in the race. The lobby was well balanced- I was door #16 and the DR range was probably only around 3k since Door #1 still had an A DR and I was at 44k entering, so I can't blame the room being too far out of my league. Yet the best I could qualify was 19th (granted, I had no slipstream because I messed up on the laps where I did have it), but the entire race all I could fight for was 18th place, and the entire field just pulled away from me. Is the Cayman on the slower end now with the two BoP changes, or am I just doing it a disservice? I lost another 1000 DR from that race and it's really discouraging me from participating in the future.

After having distracting discussions with my wife about a dog during the Gr3 DTS Nations round I spent 7 hours driving to pick up a rescued lab today. Now instead of talks distracting me I will have the actual dog here.

@Razgriz2118, I had a few Cayman in the room I was in. While they were not the highest ranked drivers in the room, they did not have the pace either (one had a top 5 grid spot but didn't do much in the race). Like my 458, I think the Cayman might've just not suited the track that well.

Yeah, I'm just trying to figure out if it was the car/track combo or me because I haven't been getting the best results in any of my last like half dozen races or so.

On my replay it looked like you weren't really attacking the chicane. The penalty on the right-hander is actually very generous. You can actually put all 4 tires on the grass there, just don't get TOO far from the curb and you'll get away with it. I try to avoid the temptation to do that just in case I do go too far, but you can definitely get 2 tires in the grass there and be fine. Try braking a little earlier so you can get turned in to the first part and take a straighter line through the rest of the chicane.

It could be that the Soft tires and low wear are nullifying the handling advantage of the Porsche, since even my understeer machine was willing to go where I pointed it. Also, while good handling is necessary due to all of the mid- and high-speed corners, because they're quicker corners, they're more reliant on aero grip than mechanical grip, which again might reduce the Porsche's handling advantage.

I was in that race with you. That start with the laggy driver was a mess. Fortunately I didn't get caught up as much as you guys did. I had a good race with the guy in the Corvette in the end. He was a little "punchy", but I managed to get past him on the last lap to take, as Chappelle would say, 5TH. All in all a decent race for the Jag. See you in the next one. :cheers:

That chicane caught a lot of drivers out. So many just couldn't figure it out. I think I was making up half a second a lap on everyone in front of me there.

You might be right about the tires. The 458 is really good on the mediums, and especially the hards. But on the softs, it just didn't feel competitive enough.

Yeah, the chicane was the one part of the track I struggled to get through super quickly. I didn't realize you could go that far off into the grass though, so I'll have to keep that in mind, thanks!

The tire/aero part is a good point, too.

I started behind you in that race. Watching the intro I knew that laggy car was gonna cause problems and we basically had a standing start while the back of the pack rolled. I got a little roughed up and fell back. So it goes. I was looking forward to challenging your Ferrari with my Honda as I like how they match up. Maybe next time. Congrats on a top ten finish.

The guys on the outside of the WRX where able to get a better jump once the flag dropped. It was a good race with you and the bumper car of the Vette (he played a bit rough, not dirty, just over aggressive). Nice to see you. Just had a pace on the softs I couldn't keep up with.

I think he took himself out of finishing better. He had decent pace and his tires were great. Sometimes aggression definitely works against you.

During the race I definitely thought I had all 4 on the grass at this moment though. This was the most I cut the chicane during the race, and I was scared I was going to get a penalty for it, but I didn't. On the rest of my laps I didn't risk it this much, but as you can see there's quite a bit of room to cut and still feel safe from getting a penalty.
 
Thanks a few of you guys, glad to see most people are really enjoying Manu. I had a blast racing there, only bad thing was the one punt.
Got a short edit of Karen acting silly, then the pass and punt. It seems I tapped them when I made my pass and they got a penalty. BS penalty for them and the contact was so small I didnt even know then that it happened. Anyway. Then the fun drag through to the line, which I lost.
In some way it is cool to race that person as they are the same driver I beat for my first win way back when we were both winless DR D drivers with little race experience.


And yeah, we have to pay our council dog tax on monday.
 
Well I didn’t practice, haven’t raced FIA in quite a few weeks, but saw the races looked fun. I’m Catalunya’d out.
Nations I thought hmm I’ve never driven the car more than one race at Goodwood...
I spent some time discovering some decals, and painted her up.
Just barely made time and UH OH.
Looked at the lobby and knew that it was last place if none of them crashed. Luckily there were some mistakes and I didn’t finish last!.
Manu I ran a few practice, and the vette was nice to drive on softs.
I did alright, should have stayed out past lap 8 was it? I followed another vette in.
Got viciously hit in the hairpin late in the race, got mad, lost time playing bumper cars...
Fun day for me overall tho!
Saw a lot of familiar faces!
