Shared a grid with @Trone_Colby ...and his AWESOME Cleveland Browns livery-- though I can't get used to him in a VW! He unfortunately got punted by a Ferrari, which I didn't notice until watching the replay. Shame... I've had trouble with that Ferrari driver before, too. I let him through twice on account of my prior experiences with him.

Good to see you on the track. Yes I know its weird seeing me in VW after being with Toyota for so long. I’m not sure about VW yet tho. I will be trying other brands.

Yes that guy ruined my race completely. I had a rough qualifying time. Started P19 on a track I’m not particularly fast on but ok enough. I was surprised that I was doing well. I made it up to P11 in the later stages. I saw Kosmo come out of the pits about to merge into traffic. I was thinking like cool, I’m about to battle 3 cars....until an idiot in a Ferrari didn’t brake for T1 and sent me flying off. I completely lost it after that. My wife even heard me cussing up a storm when she was in bed. I finished 15th. All the jerk could say was he was sorry and been drinking...that infuriated me more. Yes I understand that people drink while playing. I was too pissed at the situation. I even lost my DR A.

@Granadier said he had problems with that dude too.

The “make up race”, that driver was back. I started P14, while he started P12. The race just started and he lost control on the first lap. Glad I wasn’t in that. I did hit someone out because I was caught off guard with his early braking. That set me back 3 seconds.

I made it up to P9, went to pit...I moved too fast and hit no refuel... I had to pit again a few laps later. I got hit off as well. Rejoined the track safely and was trying to get up to speed. A car was approaching, knowing I was slow and had every opportunity to adjust...instead he runs into me and guess who gets the 2 second penalty....me sigh.

I finished 15th again, less points than the previous race. I lost 3K. Not a good night for me. I’m skipping Monza. I can’t wait for Tokyo and Seaside.

Nice finishes, both. Love the EVH livery, @afc5150 ...looks cool on the car. Sad that his battle ended this week.

The Astons seemed really strong in this race. They were able to pull me even in the short chutes, let alone that I was a sitting duck on the main and the back straights. You can see a few moments of my battles with one of them in my race, and it was fun to race that guy a few times as our pit strategies overlapped, but he was definitely faster.

Overall they seem to be a great choice this season. And they look and sound great out there.

I got matched in a lobby in slot 1in which I didn't recognize a single name, which is weird for me. All A/S drivers and I was given door 19. I wasn't sure what to expect, but felt I had decent enough pace, so of course I qualified down in 17th.

The race itself was pretty straightforward, nice and clean from what I could see. I went with the 8S/8S/4M strategy with fuel on the first stop. Had a few nice door to door battles, and by the end of the race I found myself in the top 10. A couple of mistakes up ahead and a couple of nice passes for me along the way.

Finished 9th in the one-off Eddie Van Halen livery, for 112 points which will count toward my total for now. Gained around 300 DR ~33.5K . So I figure that's enough for me. Overall not unhappy with my race.View attachment 963498

Round 7, and 7 turned out to be a lucky number. I qualified 7th, and was 4th by the end of Lap 1, taking full advantage of others' mistakes, and pulling off a near flawless run. I say "near flawless" - a slow moving Beetle was blocking the exit of the chicane mid-race, and I accelerated into their rear bumper, resulting in a loss of SR (but no penalty).

View attachment 963519

But they ran for cover into the pits and the road ahead was clear - I was 5th after my second pitstop and quickly gained on 4th, having pitted early to avoid running out of race time a lap early (1st place was miles ahead). But I still managed to go the full race length and finished 4th with 81 points, and a FL of 1:45:411 :D

That first corner at pit exit is a tricky spot, because it will often be the place for a classic long and slow-playing slipstream pass, but when you add people exiting the pits, to make it three-wide, it takes three responsible drivers to avoid trouble. I've noticed it in F1 races, too.

The Ferrari driver definitely is a wrecking ball... I saw him make contact with just about every car he overtook in that race, and I think at least three penalties in the course of 6 or 8 laps. He's 'going to wreck it or wall it' as some say in oval racing here in the US...

I had some run-ins with him in the early stages of the last season, and when I see him on the grid, no matter how good that Ferrari looks, I make a note to myself to avoid him and let him through.

Too bad, because I think we would have ended up with some racing between the two of us over some of the race, if you hadn't been punted.

Finally: I see Porsche has crept up into the top 10 globally (10th) in the Manufacturer standings, but is still 19th in NA... despite a poor season, I'm ranked higher within the Porsche ranks than last season, but of course there are fewer drivers. Top-25 seems reasonable as a target with two good finishes over the rest of the season.

Well I did the 9PM EMEA slot last night, again usual leaving it too late to not get any practice in, in summary: Qualified 7th, turn 1 up to 6th, turn 6 I get punted off... 16th, managed to make up a few spots, did the S8/S8/M4 strategy and the only highlight for me in the race is in this clip:

Finished at the end of it in 8th with 5th, 6th & 7th in my eyesight but just couldn't do anything on the mediums so the 2sec gap was maintained

I entered up last night just because timing wise it was convenient. It was starting in 3 minutes! I didn’t know any details until the chat box was up and I saw soft med 4x 7x.
I chose the dbr9 for Aston, can’t remember why lol.
I qualified fifth, and was running a strong third on soft about lap four when I hung a tire off approaching the back straight and SPUN. Lol all by my lonesome and spun.
Dropped to around tenth so pitted off softs lap ten to meds and carried on.
At some point I was back up to fourth say around lap fifteen on old meds.
A Vantage was gaining and could tell he would be close lap sixteen.
That things faaast, plus I wasn’t quite shifting the DBR 9 optimally, anyways.
I put up a robust defense he was unable to crack, but I ran barely deep turn 5 the left and he just shoved me out of the way and went on to claim fourth.
I was like eh whatever.
I didn’t steal any points from anyone I stopped before the line and dropped to twelfth before finishing.
The battle I had was pretty fun, he tried around the outside several times but couldn’t get position, almost put himself off at turn 1 once so I think he felt entitled or that I was blocking, which led to his punt pass in the tight left.
FairPlay there really hard racing no pens...
I congratulated him after but no response so I left.

I spent 10 laps behind a 911, and it looked like it was quick. I’d loved to know how his tires lasted, but still had more acceleration out of the corners than myself. Not sure how they compared to the Aston or the Corvette, but through that second section @ Barcelona, the 911 was a much faster car. I was surprised given how they performed in most of the races I’ve been in this season.

After last night, Catalunya officially joins the Red Bull Ring as one of my favorite tracks 👍. I qualified 3rd and finished 2nd in the Lexus. That is my highest finish ever in DR B and 55 points is the most for me this season. I used an 8S/5M/7S strategy. The leader took on fuel with his first pit stop, and I didn't, so I actually led the race for a few laps in the middle, which is really unusual for me and kind of fun :).

I've had 4 top 5's in 9 overall races in FIA and Daily at Catalunya, and looking back at my notes (yes, I keep a notebook with this info, haha ), I've never finished worse than 10th here. I'm not sure why this track suits me so well.

For this race, I spend a LOT of time practicing over the past few days and got more and more comfortable and found some more speed. The hairpin and the chicane used to give me some anxiety trying to get through them, but now I have the confidence to handle them consistently. I'm still not very fast, but on this track, I can complete lap after lap with pretty consistent speeds and that really pays off in the race.

You can always look at the GT website and it'll tell you what your best tracks are just heads up. Top 5s, top 10s, avg finishes, poles etc amount of races. Stop wasting trees

...for sure: mid/low speed corner exit is the second-best advantage the 911 RSR has, after it's incredible braking performance. The forward grip it has, with the mid-engine balance and flat torque of the boxer-6 engine, is great. It can really be put to use in good hands, for sure, in those situations. My trouble is, I might only get 50% of that advantage out of the car at this point, so I can close on a guy between the apex and the exit, but by the time we are at full HP scenarios, cars are walking away from me, including at Fuji (even with a tow) and at Barcelona.

EDIT: I'd add that I seem to get better tire wear than average, on account of it hooking up pretty well in the scenarios I mention above. You don't work the rear end of this car to go fast, you work the front. But just on the edge of understeer to be fast, so tire wear is really minimal... there's no sliding when you are at 9 or 10/10 pace. I probably should have gone 8S/8S/4M last night, as I was driving on Fuel Mix 2, and at that pace it was really comfortable and easy to get the targeted pace without working the car too hard.

The 911 long gears are good in Catalunyas long corners.
In race though it’s weakness is tight chicane exits and curbs.
I try to attack the 911 by harrying it on straights and surprising it by keeping up pretty well in corners.
It’s a formidable opponent in good hands but it can get eaten alive on straights if it doesn’t get good drive off the corner.
It’s my favorite handling gr3 to use but I much prefer the power cars for racing serious. I resorted to it last time at Catalunya for qual.
Often it’s advantages can be kind of neutralized in races where it can’t use its momentum due to slower traffic...

Ended up doing two commentated race videos for the previous two races since they were long and had bits of action punctuated by nothing.

Exhibition Season 1 Nations: Round 6

I had a few regulars in this race, but I don't believe anyone from this forum was in here. I got put in a split lower than I usually reside in for this race, making me Door #2. T1 was a mess as usual, and luckily I came out on top from it. Still though, minor contacts throughout the race tanked my SR, and half the field got SR downs.

T1 crash analysis: 1:38
End of T1 crash analysis: 3:26
Battle for 4th: 6:28
2nd place running: 11:26
Pit stop: 13:05

Exhibition Season 1 Manufacturers: Round 7

I was joined by @Jwptexas and @csmirnoff for this race, along with some other regulars. I knew this was going to be a bad race because I wasn't feeling competitive at Catalunya, and I was with a high caliber of driver. Then I messed up my starting tire from going to the bathroom and forgetting to change tires, and sbinalla-ing myself, what could've been maybe a 14th at best turned into a 20th.

Race start: 1:00
Lap 3 cut: 4:25
Dropping like a rock: 5:10
An actual battle: 8:45

Nice video! I haven't caught your YouTube videos before, but well done. I like the edited and narrated ones... I appreciate the effort to make good ones. Wish I had time and talent to do it.

I see PikaPakaKokonut or whatever was in your race... he's sure shot up the DR ranks... wish I could earn my way up to that 40k range, but had some setbacks the last couple of months. Maybe one day.

I'm always afraid I'm gonna mess up like that... I always make a pit stop between qualifying and the race start as well. In fact, I've done it at least once, myself, starting on the wrong tires because I forgot to make the change when I settle in.

That track limit penalty for going wide was tough... it's a hair trigger- yours didn't look wide. I made sure to avoid it all race, but maybe at the expense of carrying a little less apex speed there.

Funny seeing your older videos... all a bunch of racers that I was used to seeing... but you've gotten your pace and DR up along with some others and I am matched in the lobbies just below yours now... I gotta do my part to catch up!

I'm sure @Jwptexas was saving fuel in the thirst GT... he's insanely quick when the wick is lit.

Good video!

Thanks for the mentions and sorry about that love tap there in T2! That race I was basically just going thru the motions after losing out on fighting for the lead and tried to do the 1 stop so I was definitely saving fuel and tires were just dead, lol! I'm sure I'll see you at Tokyo the Viper should be strong there!

That track limit penalty was real iffy all night... I ran two more slots and saw quite a few that looked like they may have got hit with it but nothing.

@KosmoKazi Yeah I can be quick for a lap or two but my tires fall off quick and pace along with it most races, thanks though!

Regretting my Ferrari choice for this season so have been running with BMW again on my alt. As his name implies he doesn't really handle dirty racing well. Here's a clip from last night's race at Catalunya.

Love the Alt name! "Gud..." --and that guy in the black Mazda was one of the 'bullies' that I referred to in my FIA race recap... I've raced him twice now and he may as well put nerf bars on the front and sides of that car. He isn't afraid to give a hip check even when he's got a clear path by, and he doesn't hesitate to clear a path when one isn't there. Dirty driver for sure. I hate when guys make a mistake, then use those tactics to defend their position when by any reasonable measure, they should concede the position they are in the process of losing because of their own error.

Thanks! Gotta give @Pigems some credit for the name idea.

Also you'll be happy to know that I ended up just in front of him again later in the race after pit stops and made sure the wide-boy M6 became as wide and slow as possible. Until he lost patience and gunned it through turn 8, lost control, and spun into the wall. He ended up finishing P17 to my P7.

I finished immediately behind the three guys with these SR:

1) the guy who was subject of @Granadier Alt KO
upload_2020-10-8_14-50-0.png
2) another guy who seemed to only know how to pass when his fender swiped yours, even though you gave him room (sideswiped me both times I let him thru)
upload_2020-10-8_14-50-34.png
3) the guy in the Ferrari, who victimized @Trone_Colby in T1 as I was exiting the pits (he was clearly 'racing entitled' after a recent DR reset)
upload_2020-10-8_14-52-2.png

...I had let each of them by, in some cases more than once, as pits and penalties sorted us out, rather than fighting and ending up with SR down or worse, getting punted into the gravel somewhere. Definitely a lesson in 'discretion as the better part of valor'...

upload_2020-10-8_14-56-10.png

No way I was joining that bully train and throwing my race away. But see there: it cost me 3 spots, probably over 500 DR points, and nearly 10 spots in the FIA standings for Porsche.

There's clean, and there's CLEAN.
upload_2020-10-8_14-57-58.png
But it costs DR, and FIA standings to stay that way.

Good video!

Thank you! I'm glad you think these narrated videos are good quality haha, to be honest I feel like I'm spending the minimum amount of time on them because I'd like to do a lot more with them, but I barely have enough time to make these as they are right now.

Yeah, they've definitely shot up the ranks, I only see them now when I'm in an unbalanced room haha

Haha, I've learned my lesson, at least for this race, if I didn't make mistakes, it wouldn't have been too critical.

Yeah, I found the track limits there a bit hairy. Since I barely drive Catalunya I was still trying to figure out how to get around that corner well.

We'll be waiting for you! I've just had a ton of time to practice, you'll get there! Staying clean and not tanking your DR is an art. I've been stuck at the 45k ceiling for a while now, I've just been bouncing back in between 40k and 45k.

Thanks for the mentions and sorry about that love tap there in T2! No worries about the love tap, I was just going slow haha. That explains how you ended up behind me, because like I said in the video, when I saw you were behind me and on my tail I had to do a double take because you qualified way ahead of me. That also explains why you didn't just blitz by me into T1 haha, I didn't want to hold you up.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to Tokyo, hopefully we'll be matched in the same room! That layout is the layout I used a lot to grind out mileage for the Daily Workout bonus so I feel like I know it pretty well. It's Gr. 4 though so I'm just wondering how OP the FF cars will be....

Yeah, that corner was a little harsh with the track limit penalties IMO, but oh well, hopefully the penalty system overall gets an overhaul in GT7.

I wasn't sure if I'd ever raced at this upcoming Manufacturers Series race, at the Tokyo Expressway - East Inner Loop... so I looked up my record and sure enough I never have raced that configuration. Gonna take some re-wiring of the brain to tie the different segments together in the configuration for this race... and unusual that it's during the daytime, as most of the Tokyo races seem to have been during the night.

Went down a rabbit hole of assessing where I'm at with pace... @Pigems ... you really need to clean up your act on the Tokyo Central Outer Loop! I've got you covered, there!

Wait, what? Where did you find that page? And what lap times are they, Dailies or FIA? That’s really cool! :)

Also, great lap!

I tested a few cars at Tokyo, most of them settle at around 260km/h in time trial but some of them are nearly bouncing off the limiter in top gear when they get there. Others like the Porsche still have nearly all of the final gear to use.

Will be interesting in race conditions with slipstream and fuel multipliers

Looks like there's a compare feature on that site, but whenever I was clicking it the homepage was all that showed. You can manually set up the comparison by using https://gtsport.r1s3.net/headtohead/ and then adding the two profile ID's at the end of the URL.

Like so:
https://gtsport.r1s3.net/headtohead/9568550-8069680
yeah... you have to find a profile, click the little circle with dropdown arrows on the right, then click the scale icon to add it to the 'compare' queue... then at the top bar, after you've put two or more into that 'queue', you get the page with the lap time comparisons. I think they are the 'official' best times on hard tires at any track where you competed in a GT Sport race... but can't be sure. I don't think they deviate much from the times that Kudosprime references, but it's a cool tool.

You can compare 2, 3, or maybe more drivers. I wish it was easier to throw them in a spreadsheet and compare the deltas, but it's a bit cumbersome (admittedly I have done it a few times... like when I compared my times in the 911 RSR to the top guy in the world in Porsche during FP before the race this week.)

I was noodling around and it looks like my best performances are definitely in the Gr4 cars, where I compare well to most of you top guys, but I definitely fall back when comparing Gr3 cars. You can learn a lot by looking at the data... and it's fun for bench racing, where fair comparisons are concerned.

Got a kick out of how I fared against you, @Pigems ! Just that ~one~ combination... I had you covered! But I assume you'll correct that first chance you get!

it's a pretty cool site overall... wish it was stuff that GT offered directly and supported within the official app. But in combination with the Kudosprime site, pretty cool things to help make the game that much more fun to play.

Race 7 - Barcelona - 12 minute race edit
Strategy worked well - M/S/S - Qualified 13th with 1:44.8
Awesome scrap with @timberhawk_111 and @TheDundo

Fantastic battle. Shows that a great race for 10th place can be as rewarding as a podium finish. Love racing with good clean drivers like that. You're right, when you said the game is simply the best when played well like that. Good strategy.

You see how the Porsche has no chance when it's power vs power... while it's fantastic mid-turn, with great min speed through corners, and good torque thru the apex and off it... as soon as the priority turns from torque to power, the car gets run by just about everything. But that's what makes this type of racing fun... advantages vs other advantages, and whatever you like best or choose to run, you gotta put it to best use.

BTW, it would be SO COOL to have mixed class racing with Gr3 and Gr4 at the same time. As I was watching this video, it was almost like a real race... except for that. I know... some would hate it. But I'd love the option and it would make for more interesting racing, especially during these longer (more realistic) FIA events.

Was cool to see the Porsche/Porsche/McLaren/McLaren/McLaren stack-up on that first stint...

Nice work on the videos! Production is getting better and better. Keep them coming.
