All of my races were unremarkable. Race 3 was a disastrous 13th because I was held up on one of my Soft stints and Race 4 was a pointless 8th, forcing me to go again. Race 5 was my best, qualifying 9th, doing a 8S-4M-8S, and finishing 7th before being promoted to 6th because a Subaru ahead DCed while the end-of-race timer was counting down. R.I.P.

I was feeling confident going into this race, being able to consistently set 1:58 in practice. My time was good for 7th on the grid, and I made up 2 places off the start from a Corvette going deep into T1 and a GT-R getting the exit of the second chicane wrong.

F for that same Corvette getting punted off into a reset.

And a Peugeot spins out and gifts a Veyron a penalty.

I got into a brief battle with a McLaren over 4th, but the McLaren prevailed and pulled away.

On lap 2 at Ascari, I was confronted by a Huracan ahead that ate gravel at the second chicane's exit, losing pace due to its dirty tyres. I spent a lap getting held up, before finding a way past at Parabolica to take 4th.

We spent the next 4 laps fighting, with the GT-R from before joining in along the way. Then this happened on lap 8:

The GT-R, despite being able to clearly see me and the Huracan going 2-wide into T1, brakes late and nearly punts me off, before cutting me off as I try to rejoin and stealing my place without a penalty. While the Huracan had a 1 second penalty for Ascari track limits, putting me back up into 5th, I was not happy with the GT-R.

The GT-R was able to pull away from me, leaving me in 5th until the McLaren I had a brief fight with earlier bins it from 2nd @Trone_Colby style, giving me 4th:

I confronted the GT-R in the post-race chat, with his excuse being this:
VrtAZGo.jpg

Google Translate was only able to translate the second half "I couldn't handle it", not being able to decide on a translation for the first half. While he certainly had the pace to beat me, the fact that he punted me off and stole my position really ticks me off.

Nevertheless, it was my 2nd best Nations result of the season, so it's a one and done for me.

Got hit in T1 ON THE FIRST FREAKING QUALIFYING LAP! WTH?! So then I couldn’t catch a draft so qualified almost dead last. Then after making one pass clean into first chicane on first race lap, some idiot moves into my lane in the braking zone in the second chicane, causing me to start a chain reaction (sorry @afc5150) and get a four second penalty. So red mist and race pretty much over. Monza is so infuriating. People are so stupid.

2 disgusting races at Monza in supposed A/S lobbies is enough for me. 19/20 in slot 1 in the Jag, and 12/20 in slot 2 in the Veyron. Pretty horrible drivers out there.

The 95 points I got in slot 2 will do for me. A net loss of 1200 DR and maintained 99 SR.

That's why I qualy alone. Let everyone run their train and I concentrate with no distractions.
I know it depends what room your in, but I do much better than having to judge when someone is going to brake or get out of shape and then what the folks behind will do.

Did NA Slot 1 with the Bugatti, 213-point lobby together with @Winnie847. Probably should have picked the McLaren as I had never driven this car and I only did a few TT laps before the race. With no slipstream, qualified P11.

Clean T1, overtook a Jaguar into the second chicane and tried to stay in the slipstream. On lap 2, one of the usual suspects (a guy there's plenty of videos of in this thread) went for a silly move into Ascari and pushed me wide into the runoff. He fared worse as he spun, but he gave me a 0.5s track limit penalty which dropped me to P10 and lost me the slipstream.

I couldn't do much more progress, pace was decent, did a mid 47 without slipstream during the race which was almost as quick as my qualy lap. Got up to 9th in the penultimate lap as a guy ahead picked up a penalty, but I understeered into Parabolica and he got me back into T1.

Could have gone a bit better, but P10 at the end, with a new car and no practice was decent I guess. Gained around 75 DR. :lol:Congrats to @Winnie847 for podium!

Slot 1 Split 1

I practiced a good bit and was even in the top 10 in NA in times until late Friday. Im very consistent on this track so I know its an opportunity to score some points and DR.

Qualified 11th. I know I can hang in 4 through 10s slip for a long time so I am excited! Pumped for the race!

Turn 1, I get hit from behind, I GET A 1 second PENALTY. I calm myself, its not the end of the world but aggrevating as all hell. How many times have we done turn 1?

Next chicane, top 12 have pulled away (including me in p11), p12 who gave me the penatly, all he has to do is not be an idiot and he has p11. Nope, kills me in the following chicane. Nails me, spins me out...I drop to p19, he gets 4 seconds. Sigh... top slit lobby I remind you. Best in North America!! Cant freeking let the tires warm up before ruinning both our races.

Spent the rest of the race playing catch up. I finished p14 or 15, cant remember. Dont even care. I did pass my assailant. He did apologize.

I was kind of trying. But the Veyron behind me closed in on my out lap, so I was letting him by as he had a good head of steam, but he didn’t clear me, moved left onto my outside line before turning in, and dumped me. He apologized but geez.

Some catching up to do...

Nations Fuji Audi E-Tron

Yeah, right boat this was. Forgive me but I can't remember the race in detail! Qualified in 14th (time wasn't that bad), and the race was clearly about who could use the e-brake the best, I wasn't anywhere near the best. I'll leave the highlights here, had a chancer chuck it up the inside going into the penultimate corner early on, the kind of move you think "really???", so I returned the favour the following corner. It was a good race for me in a tough lobby, 14th to 8th, though two places were courtesy of some, shall we say, irresponsible driving from a Brit that's known for it. The last lap gives an indication

Manufacturers Catalunya

Er... yeah. Qualified badly and started 15th, then chose the wrong strategy - that combination normally leads to a bad race! I tried to undercut a bunch of cars ahead (up to 11th) when I would have been better staying out and one stopping the race. The undercut failed, my fuel saving failed and I came home 17th. Highlight of the race happened before the race had actually began - with Eerieisss dropping it out of the final corner and into the pit wall in my mirrors before we crossed the line to start L1

Nations Monza - Veyron

Should have been a one make! Qualified in 10th with a reasonable time of 1:56.6 in clean air but a lack of pre-race practice (my excuse anyway!) meant my race lap times were low 57s rather than high 56s. Kept the whole thing clean, except for a 1s track penalty at Variante della Roggia (which I absolutely nailed by the way! Was never a penalty!), picked up places as people made errors and took 6th, just edging out a guy in a Lexus for 228 points.

That's me caught up, REALLY looking forward to the next couple of Nations rounds so hopeful I can get some good points in those. The final Manufacturers races look horrible but I've decided to try and run all races so maybe I'll get a nice surprise result somewhere

So I decide to do Monza, against my better judgement. Qualified 14th, ok, less risk of getting hit in chicane 1. Then came chicane 1. Turning out of the chicane, car ghosted and sideways in front of me. Should I go left into another car? Right into the sand? Straight and hope it stays ghosted? I went straight. It did not stay ghosted. 4 second penalty. Race over. Well I can't say I didn't warn myself!:lol::lol::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Nations Cup
Race #7 - Autodromo Nazionale Monza / Gr4 - McLaren 650S Gr.4

After getting hit in qualifying in my first attempt, and then getting ruined by a guy moving in the braking zone during the second chicane, I gave this round another shot.

Qualified awful again, got held up on my second run, after missing out on a tow in my first one, by a Peugeot that was all of the road and cost me 2 seconds, wasting my last hot lap.

So started 19th, same as the first race. Just committed to running clean and seeing where I ended up, and to avoid over-driving.

In the end, a clean, but slow 13th place. Up six positions from the start, which given a sprint race with no stops, the fact that the McLaren was really a bit at a disadvantage to the Bugattis, and that I was ranked 17th in the lobby, not an awful result.

Did suffer a few SR downs, one for love taps on entry to the chicanes or at the apex of Parabolica (what can you do, really)... one for hitting a guy who was ghosting but camped on the last apex in Ascari after going off track (get off the darn racing line, you idiot!) and once from getting pinched pretty bad in the first chicane on exit... that guy got a 1.5 sec penalty, but I still get an SR down for him hitting me?!? That's kind of weird. And unfair... but we've all been there.

But I took my FIA points and called it a night, after another few hundred DR lost (on top of the 900 I lost in the first attempt) and a net red S SR at the end of the race for those stupid taps. As Monza goes, though, not the worst thing that could have happened. It's so crazy... that track is a real fun test of skill, until it isn't. But when racing clean, the nerve-wracking cycle of hitting those chicanes, then watching to see if the guy behind has a run on you in the slipstream, while you try to do the same in front... a real test of nerves and skill. You can't not want to do well when you race there.

Just ran 11 laps in the lead, no penalties, no one touched me and I touched no one, lapped half the field, got to the end screen and red A (I was S). Yup 4 more SR down. 82 to 78. How on earth did I lose SR???

No SR downs or penalties in qualifying either? Those still count at the end of the race.

Did have 1 in qualy, but just one, guy moved over left on me as I was blowing by him. So, i did have 1 bump in qualy.

Btw, qualifying with people 5-10 seconds a lap slower is a nightmare.

Edit, wait... I even got a clean race bonus. SMH

Yeah, it was definitely that, then. That bump with a low-rated driver probably cost you close to 20 SR. With the CRB you limited the damage to only -4 SR.

I had an out of town job pop up for this morning, so I wasn't able to get home to race until the final slot of the night. I had high hopes that it would be the final stragglers looking to salvage their nights and it wouldn't be too tough of a lobby. Boy, was I ever wrong. I mean, they could have been trying to salvage their nights but it was far from an easy lobby.

My typical FIA lobby is worth somewhere in the mid-high 70s for points. This one was worth 87 and I was seeded #20. I recognized several names that I know are usually faster than me, so my expectations sunk pretty low.

Qualy went ok, considering that I couldn't catch a slipstream to save my life. I ended up P13. Right from the get-go my lack of experience with the Bugatti reared it's ugly head. I thought I braked plenty early for T1 but the lumbering beast kept barreling on towards the cars in front of me. I swerve several times managing to avoid a remarkably high number of people and slide sideways into the chicane. (It kind of reminded me of the Monza open track day YT video where a Porsche slides into the Pagani and then the Porsche driver gets out of his car and collapses into a puddle of tears. But I digress...) Luckily, by the time I get to the chicane, I'm going slow enough that when I make contact that only person that spins out is me. The guy I hit seemed to recover pretty ok. But still. That moment turned out to haunt me for the rest of the race. I'm in P19 when I get back on track.

By the time I get to the second chicane, I pass two people recovering from what looks to have been some pretty serious carnage there. L2 is also filled with people making their way back onto the track and by the end of the lap I'm in P13 again. The rest of the race goes something like this - I slowly close the gap between myself and the group ahead of me. I get someone's slipstream and become hyper-aware of how long it takes the Veyron to slow down and start braking super early to avoid contact with the guy ahead of me. On the plus side, I didn't hit anyone braking under slipstream. On the minus side, I also braked super early several times losing a ton of distance and had to play catch up again. Just when I thought I was going to finally make up some ground, a pair of cars collide in the first chicane. As I'm driving through, one of the cars swerves back onto the track and un-ghosts right in front of me. 4 sec penalty and SR down.

That 4 sec penalty for having the audacity to not come to a complete stop while someone wildly swerves into the middle of a chicane was the difference between the P12 where I finished and finishing P9, which I'm pretty sure I could have done if I didn't have to serve that penalty. I had better pace than the three positions ahead of me.

I also got another SR down when someone swerved back on at Lesmo and I tapped him, as well. It could have been a pretty good finish for me considering the relative strength of the lobby. But I ended up with my SR down to 87, although the DR was basically a push as I only lost 100 points. But, hey. It was another good learning experience for me, I finished quite a bit higher than my door number with the potential for more. But I really got to get more practice racing under slipstream and with cars that aren't my favorite nimble handling cars.

Well let's see - had a ****** race in our private league 2 days before and made a lot of mistakes. As I would not choose the Veyron cause I hate it, thought that the Viper would be a decent choice. Big mistake...

Slot 1 - disconnected

Slot 2 - decent but could be better banker lap of 57.2 which put me in P14. Had a brilliant last quali lap, I was improving by more than 4 tenths at end of S2 and caught up in slipstream for the final sector but completely blew Parabolica so I have to settle with the banker. Start was ok, gained 2 positions in the first lap after mistakes of others, and managed to put a 2s gap from the pack behind. In my mind, it was a decent start and had hopes that I could bag at least 150p. Well, I am amazed at how people with 50-60k DR are not able to race smart at all. In lap 3, the two Veyrons in front started fighting and they kept like this for 3-4 laps, not only losing completely the pack in front but allowing the pack behind to catch up. Of course my Viper was no match for a Veyron in slipstream and started losing positions. Final nail in the coffin was a 1s penalty at 2nd chicane and that dropped me to P18.

Slot3 - decided to try again, was hoping to get a P10 or so that would get me around 160p. Lobby was much stronger this time, even with a 56.9 quali I started in P16, second last. Managed to gain 4 places, as people in front made mistakes but 2 penalties for misjudging the speed of the Veyron in front on the exit of 2nd chicane brought me back to earth. P15 in the end and 80 SR was enough for the night.

The DR loss from Monza and last race at Catalunia brought me to 50.3K Dr. Tried to recover the SR today at SPA but the first race was not that good and lost enough DR to get to my usual hunting grounds of DR A.
I think that is a good thing, as high A lobbies are my true level, where I can really compete even in the non-meta car for Nations or weaker combos for me.

I hope that the last 3 Nations Cup races will be better for me, even if I had a good start in the first 3 races I completely blew them since then. I am sitting in 237th in EMEA, way below my objective of getting Top200.

Manufacturer is a lot better, I am P129 in EMEA but I am failing the top10 objective for Dodge - mainly because of very strong drivers driving Vipers.

McLaren 650S Gr4 is a really good car, the 650S GT3 in Gr3 is a very different beast though. Definitely not easy to drive... ;)

I was thinking similar. I came out of that round thinking that it's pretty close to the ideal car for me, fast, nimble and just stable enough

Naw, you guys don’t want to drive the McLaren’s all the time, you wouldn’t like them at all. ;) :D

The trading of positions tells you how my race at Monza went. Q15 and by the end of L1 I was 19th. End of lap 3 I was 10th and end of lap 5 I was 8th. Wish I could say it was due to my crisp overtaking abilities. Nope - fools smiting themselves and personal vendettas were the order of the day. I finished 8th in the Lexus. When I moved up that many positions I was cackling like an old witch.

Nope - fools smiting themselves and personal vendettas were the order of the day.

It really was a wreckfest last night. I also saw one of the most deliberate side-swipes at Lesmo, at one point. It was the guy who un-ghosted in front of me in the chicane, so I'm guessing he was giving payback to the guy who wrecked him there.

How is the F1 GTR compared to the 650S? If I ever go with McLaren in the future, I see myself picking the F1.
In prior trials, what I’ve seen is that the F1 requires real discipline as it makes speed differently than most cars. Great top speed, less cornering speed, you have to be deliberate about your driving and not get caught up in racing into other cars’ strengths. And I think it would be compromised at some tracks where it’s strengths would offer clear advantage. You’d have to be ok with those highs and lows I would imagine. It’s definitely a different animal.
