Is there any particular reason why the FIA races still have to be as diverse as they are, rather than have a weekly, category specific championship race running most days? After all, the Bop seems to be okay now with Gr.2, Gr.3 and Gr4 at least. I think probably quite a significant number of drivers feel obliged to do most of the FIA races just to get points rather than choosing to do so for fun, but I could be wrong and PD ends up thinking players love these events, when they don't really.....
I enjoy the challenge the FIA races present. I expect tonight to be rough for me but I'll do my best against the alien swarm.

The 6:00 nations lobby was really strong. The lowest rated driver had a 63.5k DR

Just a bit strong! On the upside the matching is probably better then given the number of entrants looks like they have increased?

Hit 1:44.8 in the Macca which isn't exactly strong at Dragon Trail, lets see how this goes, should be alright as long as I keep it off that bus stop haha

Still a decent lap though, if I could just work out why I’m half a second slower in the first sector I’d be well in the 44s, doing my head in!

Every gr.2 race is a PITA. Every race involves fuel management on a higher scale than normal races.

I felt like I was looking more at the HUGE FLASHING RED PENALTY SIGNS than at things like the apexes.

Managed to get rid of 9 seconds of penalties with only 3s of loss approximate at the end, which was fortunate so no places lost due to stupid penalties. Pretty happy with my performance, but Dragon Trail Gr.4 is one of my better combinations

Welp no McLaren video today folks, I got killed by someones lag after climbing 5 positions, was 2200-ish points on the cards but instead I get engine damage, a 10 second penalty, 13th place and some lost DR... mmmmmm

I saw that, the race was carnage, everyone around me had a penalty :banghead:
I climbed from P16 to P5 tho :sly:

Well my race was ok, mix of A+ and A. Not a great quali lap started 12th, I was on a much better lap and I missed crossing the line by 2 seconds :lol: :irked:.

Clawed my way to 9th so not terrible still learning! My main achievement was to come away with no penalties, followed cleanly waited for my chance so I’m happy with that!

Main thing I took away from this though is how critical quali is. Would have completely changed my race if I got my best lap in, which sounds obvious but I think you can kind of get what I mean.

yeah, that was a crazy race xD
Went down from P7 to P15. Sh** happens i guess ;)
You did a great job!
Again sorry for being involved in your spin, I was forced to the inside by that other guy and suddenly you clipped through me and then spun around, really weird

Group 4 McLaren's peak shifting point for races is super weird, I'll upload a video after my Manu cup race later.
Thanks :D
I almost exclusively manage my fuel through short shifting, mostly because the G29 doesn't like to change the fuel map settings while I'm turning.
There are times though where I'll manage with fuel map - but even on ovals I manage through short shifting, lifting/coasting more than I do fuel map.

So for me it's mostly a mixture.
The S's bends through Suzuka are a very good example where managing via short shift or lifting off the throttle could disrupt your balance and sap more time than running through them on fuel map 2 would.

It's all about finding what works for you.

Because I short shift a lot - I tend to choose cars that have power lower in the revs.
How much do you shortshift? Half bar or around a third?

No idea what exactly happened there, nothing to blame you.
I know you are a very fair driver ;)

Had a poor quali in the gr.2 race, was having an ok race (by my standards) and then got a slight touch...

That was my first race or even first time using a Gr.2 car and it was hard! Saving fuel was really hard. I always use Automatic so I can’t short shift so I tried using map 2 in the slow parts of the track like you guys said, still had to pit at the end of lap 6 though and had to struggle through the final lap in map 6....still managed to finish 5th though after qualifying 7th, in an A/A+ field, for 1300 something points, better than I thought I’d do. I used the Lexus.

Finally got back to A+ DR after being knocked down to A for a few weeks. I’ve been between 48000 and 52000 DR for just about the entire time playing this game

Thanks :D

It depends on how much I'm conversing.
For example, that BB race we had a few weeks ago with aggressive fuel consumption (7 laps if you didn't manage fuel) I had fuel map 2 and was shifting at like 1/5 revs. (I made it 15 laps)

Timeslot choosing going to be very important from now on. There were 15-16 of us that went under 1:50 in top split Nations at 6pm UK time during qualifying, only 1 made it under that mark in top split at 10pm yet there were still over 2,200 points on offer (almost 3,000 at 6).

The winner of that last timeslot started from 6th with a time which would've qualified him about 18th at 6pm! Seems like there's a lot of A+ drivers who are at least 2 seconds off the pace but still ensure there's a high strength of field race. I reckon there's going to be a migration to later lobbies to spread the aliens out within the next few races, as people who finish down in midpack realise they could've possibly won a couple of hours later and got a lot more points.

For sure, I got 2k points in the RCZ group 4 at dragontrail, which shouldn't even be possible in high strength lobbies :D! At least it means I don't have to rush home anymore!

Yeah hopefully in a few races it almost self regulates and each lobby has roughly the same levels of competition and points on offer, rather than the rush to get on asap before you end up in the later lobbies full of low A's which had been the case for a few months.

And of course, the first time I'm in a really good room for Nations, the game crashes. Thanks a lot, GT Sport. :irked:

Hey, but we're in the official pre season, they'll figure this stuff out!
Yes, of course, I'm confident PD will make the right fixes.

After the frustration of not being allowed to race AND losing a ton of DR points for something out of my control, I decided to jump into the Manufacturer's race at the last second. Probably not the smartest thing to do since I hadn't done a warm up. It bit me hard when I ended up hitting the car in front of me going into T1, forgetting the Hyundai's brakes at that part were quite bad. Somehow, I finished 3rd by taking advantage of several incidents but my car was a sitting duck against all the Vipers and Corvettes.

Doesn't matter, the penalty system is still crap, had the best race ruined because of it

I placed 8th in not even the top lobby during my time slot and still got 1100pts. The competition is really turned up!

We had only a few A+/S drivers and the rest A/S which is par for the course. I later realized at the same time there was a lobby that was entirely A+/S. I've never seen anything like that before.

S Class FIA Race started as 6th on Suzuka get 2 times punted HARD in the back first corner. Thx pro drivers its a lomg race why so much risc first corner????????

Well P19 with 8 seconds behind P18. End of the race finished P5 with 20seconds behind P1 so it was a good fight back. But still...... Why not brake first corner people drive like there life depends on it! Shame.....
