Just got out of the 11:00PM (AEDT) Nations Cup race. Not fun at all, quite boring in fact, seeing as there was only eight people by the end of the race. (there were even 16 people loading into the lobby as well!)

If this isn't a sign that Aus/NZ should be merged back with the rest of Asia, then I don't know what is.

This is depressing.

Just did the FIA Nations race with a 2-stop in a Mustang (5M/4S/4S). Qualified 13th, and it started with a battle against an Evo, then several laps later, I took advantage of a fellow Mustang's mistake and a few others, plus for once, I set the Fastest Lap! And unfortunately a certain LuFa_Peregrine in a Neptune 4C stole my fastest lap by over a tenth. But then Luffy ran wide on the final lap as the Soft tyres on the 4C decided to fail out and picked up a costly 0.7 second penalty exiting out of Descida do Lago, and more mistakes and eventually ended up overtaking Neppu in my Saleen Mustang to finish 11th for 762 points.

I've only done daily races so far. FIA noob. But it seems like a good time to try this out with the recent rule changes. Totally prepared to fail. I have to start somewhere.

Best of luck to everyone.

I just had a very good FIA Nations cup race. I started 17th and ended 6th despite someone trying to take me out.

I raced the 19:10 race manufacturers cup.
Got pole position and finished first, managing to finish the race without any penalty and having consistent lap times.

3rd at Interlagos in the GT-R, going on mediums for 7 laps and softs for 6. The performance sort of disappeared in the last two laps, but I had enough of a cushion after pit stops.

I'm sort of annoyed that the guy who qualified 3rd, who I passed on the outside into turn one who booted me off at the end of the back straight 20 seconds later, DNF'd. I could've been much more comfortable, but no. Oh well, 521 points.

There was some serious competition in the EU Nations Cup races today. The level was, quite frankly, the same as EU Top 24 Superstars races. The first half of the grid was pretty much inseparable. Only the loss of slipstream separated the field. @Tidgney (for his lack of practice) and @TRL LIGHTNING (except for the last race slot ;)) drove superbly

Had quite a good fun night tbh. Tried the Manufacturers race first and got punted on my fast qualification lap so started down in 16th. Not a great deal you can do from there considering the tyre wear of the Peugeot. Ended up in 12th so decided to do it again and managed to qualify 3rd and managed to hold that position even with the pit stop. Involved a few moves in the 2nd half of the race so was quite enjoyable.

In the Nations I went for the Mercedes SLS and had a good solid race with 1 stop on mediums. Couldn't quite match the guys at the front, but had a good fight up from 6th on the grid and managed to get 3rd. Had a good scrap with a guy two stopping who managed to pass me around the outside of the double apex right hander, but I just beat him by a second in the end.

Two good results and 1400+ points in each tournament.

I tried 2 races in Nations. Did not go well. Multiple tries is probably good if you're good. I just end up bleeding DR.

1st race ended before I could finish. 2nd race I was doing better but came out of the pit and my brake was 25% stuck, I though maybe I had damage (no memory of any contact) or something so I went to the pit again. And it was still stuck. So I exited the game. Not sure what that was. Maybe the game is telling me to give up.

* checked later and I got 287 points for the 1st race. It tells me my regional rank is 342/local rank 3rd. I thought I'd failed. Turns out it's not as bad as I thought.

2 nation races for the moment, people is really electric for this season start it seems. 2 top rooms with the top south america players , bad qualifying but good race , 4 laps racing soft + 5 racing medium +4 on soft again. Reach 10th place but somebody did a pit maneuver out the senna S last lap. Just like this. I will try a last race soon.
I will not race manufacturer this season again, too much time with the porsche now , woud like too change , lexus will be my next cars , i love the GR3 '16 ..

I also somehow managed to not need to do a single pit stop in any of the races, not sure if this is entirely normal?

Brilliant races. The new repeats allowed format is better, there's more competition which means closer matched lobbies. That makes for better races.

Raced MFG at 6PM and had a great race, sadly I made an error and punted someone after following them very close for 2-3 laps. Got around 1200 pts for 7th but lost 17SR!!! For a basically a single penalty!
Raced Nations at 7PM but in the low SR lobby, managed 2nd and gained back up to 99SR.
Raced Nations at 8PM because of the new system back in the proper lobby, amazing race bumper to bumper with regulars I see all the time like Bullet, RacingSwordsman, some OBS drivers etc. Finished 4th for 1200pts.

Race starts are tagged with timestamps in the comments if you go to the video

Nations was a quiet race. The VW had some severe tyre wear, I didn't do much practice to realize that. Decent qualy and race pace.

Did 2 Manufacturers races. For the first one I had a bad qualy and good fight for 3rd place.

In the second one I had much better pace. Great qualy for my car, an an AMAZING battle against Nico for the win.

After 1 year of being held hostage by that damn Audi contract I've finally won a race in the TT!

I only had time for one of each race but I like the idea of the new format, anything which increases the number of players should create more even matchmaking. The top guys score more points and the rest of us have a bigger chance to get our own results rather than just being grid-fillers.

Exactly.

Acknowledging that these fia exhibition seasons are experiments and that PD are trying out different race format solutions, here are some of my thoughts on the current season format, that now allows multiple entries to the same event, whereas before, only 1 attempt per event was allowed:

- If you have the time for multiple attempts at fia races, then you will support the change allowing it, if you do not have the time, there is nothing good about it.

- It is not a level playing field, if 1 driver is doing the only race time slot that they can fit into their real life, but they are competing with someone on their e.g. 3rd attempt, who already has decent points scored for the race and can therefore increase massively their risk appetite for divebombs and 50/50 moves. They can also try alternate tyre strategies out.

This is not motorsport. In real life motorsport, the driver has to deliver the performance there and then, on the day. There are no second chances. If there were, the results would be different, as those who cannot perform at their best immediately get up to 5 chances to run the same race!

Well for that race, if you could hold on to the tyres, no stop was the way to go

So do North and South America have their own FIA regions now? (it would appear so?)

Anyone know if PD are planning on having the audacity to give Oceania its own championship? (because it looks like they'd struggle to actually fill a grid if they did)

I agree.
It sucks but the reality is you don't have a do over in real race. There's a crash\incident in race? You have to deal with it. Even some racers being too aggressive, you can't permanently fix that (PD tried for Heavy Damage and i thought it was gonna get better but instead got worse).

I've already said it but i'll repeat: this is just a band aid for the constant game crashes and disconnections. You can check @Tidgney stream and only on the THIRD time he managed to race the Nations. How bananas is that?

I fully agree with your assessment. I can only manage to race once for every event. People with a lot more time on their hands are getting a massive advantage here.

I had an idea yesterday, what if you could enter as many races as you wanted to but by entering a race you would forfeit your points from the last race? In my mind that would still benefit the guys who got a dc (well, can't get worse than 0 points right?) and make the others who scored 800+ think twice about trying again.

The best thing though would be to actually eliminate the disconnects entirely and go back to the old "one race" policy. :dopey:

Completely agree. And I think removing the '1 shot' race method takes away the excitement, nerves and purpose of motorsport. You won't get 5 chances in the live finals. As long as this method is just for the test seasons, I don't mind too much.

Whoever is in charge of the FIA rules and regulations for GT Sport hasn't done a good job IMO. You only have to look at the World Finals to prove that. Drawing cars out of a hat instead of competitors being allowed to choose their own car for Nations Cup is ludicrous.

Another thing: The standard is so high in the top lobbies now, that the driver in last place could potentially win the 2nd highest ranked lobby, yet they receive approximately 1500 points less than the winner of the 2nd highest lobby. I don't think the points system works here.

I'm not sure tbh whether the multiple races is a good or bad thing.

Good
I got punted in my qualification by someone on a slow lap last night which meant I started in 16th in that race. Almost impossible to make up loads of places from there so ended up 12th. Next race I had a clean qualifying, started 3rd and finished 3rd. Almost 800 points difference between those. Had a similar issue on the Nurburgring race where I got taken out on the 1st corner of the old circuit and giving engine damage - which meant all the practice I did was for nothing. If there had been an option to race again it would have been a lot more fun for me.

More good drivers are playing. I was almost getting into the top split in the last few seasons but I was nowhere near in last nights races.

It somewhat reduces the issue of disconnection because there is another race (will still be an issue for the top24 races though, although I disagree with those anyway)

Bad
It does remove the one hit excitement of the 1 race and out.
It might encourage people to make more aggressive moves in the race as there is always another race.

In the same way as Polyphony has been experimenting with different tyre compounds in the past few seasons, I feel this is worth a shot. It may take some tweaking but unless they try it we will never know what works and doesn't work.

ps. Polyphony, please reduce the difference between tyre wear rates in Group 4. The difference from the Cayman to the Peugeot is way too high. Just reduce the difference by 50% across the board and I think it will make a huge difference. Cayman will still be the best and Peugeot the worst, but at least it will be a bit closer.

Race Reports:
Nations:
I think we had an even split of 8 Atenza's and GTI's, with myself in an Atenza. Lost 2 tenths in the middle sector which cost me a couple of positions but was a decent place to start anyway. The top 2 pulled away early on, and so it was a big battle for 3rd, I made a few mistakes which didn't help but so did a few other so it the result could've been better but could've been worse also.

Manufacturers:
Qualifying was ok, the lap was 7 tenths off pole but started higher than expected. Was hit off at T2 but it didn't affect me as much as the drivers behind. To my surprise, everyone in front of me went with a 1 stop whilst I tried the no stop. I almost pulled it off but lost it on the last corner. :banghead: I normally try not to get too invested in these races regardless of results, I just like to race, but I was relatively disappointed with this one given how the race panned out. Anyway, it was a good result, and a decent amount of points by my standard.
