Hey maybe, although the only info I have from fidel and kudo was a 99 for the day. I know I finished the day before as an 82 so maybe I hadnt climed high enough up the sr chain at race time.

I don't want this to seem like an insult, or a discouraging post, on the contrary, I hope to show you why you get matched in these kind of lobbies. Looking at your stats, versus mine, we are not too far off in DR. you are sitting at 35,000, and me at 40,000, therefor, we could easily be matched in the same lobbies (if we were both in the same region) the reason I believe you get matched in those lobbies is your consistency, it seems to be all over the place, keeping your races clean for a little bit would probably get you in MUCH better lobbies, I get lobbies ranging from 1500Points to 1800 Points for 1st every round...

To give you the visual, I can send you a comparison of our graphs to show you why it happens. Your SR seems to "dip" to 75 or so, every 2 days of playing time, which probably greatly hurts your matchmaking.

Now, as I said I am not trying to say you are not a good racer, I am just saying, working on your SR, rather than your DR is what you should do at the moment, you'd be better off finishing a race 2-3 positions further back, while getting a clean race, than finishing 2-3 positions ahead, with a bunch of penalties and SR hits. It would make you get better matches.

I still can't believe my controller died on me mid-race. If it weren't for that I could've been up there with Jordy battling you. :ouch: Fortunately I did a lot better on my second attempt and got 2053.
Battling? You mean zipping past me at Mach 3 compared to my propeller power Rexy?

Tough luck on your controller but that's yet another break I got to earn my podium. Other things on my luck list:

- A 911 and Jag ahead crashing off past the first chicane. Bizarre accident since the 911 turned right into the Jag as though it wasn't even there.
- The Madza that got ahead of me going off in the second chicane and disappearing. Dunno if rage quit or DC.
- Two Jags behind me that kept battling, allowing me to stay ahead. One of the thngs I was banking on with my strategy.
- One of those two Jags crashing at Ascari.
- Another Jag behind me getting a penalty just as they were ready to overtake me.
- My hards matching the meds for others just as a Mustang was in my slipstream. Also, getting slipstream from the Corvette ahead who was losing pace.
- After staying out, having both 1st and 2nd catching me on the frontstrech. No time loss since they went by me like I was standing still.
- The Lexus cutting Ascari on the last lap and earning a 1.2 second penalty. I knew that would round up to 2 seconds.

All of that to get a good result at a power track. It's safe to say that I cannot depend on that type of luck every single week. I may have doomed Subaru to more nerfs because I'm well overachieving with it.

A win in a lobby full of 75000 DR Drivers deserves more points than a win against 1000 DR drivers.

If someone wins their race, against people of the same ability, then well done, no-one is saying it isn't an achievement. Congratulations are certainly deserved for people who perform well against their ability of drivers. But this is a competitive environment and if you have a system where wins in every single lobby, no matter of the difficulty of the lobby, is the same, you will create tanking.

People will purposely lower their DR to get into easier lobbies and get the same number of points as someone winning in the highest most difficult split.

Points are there to rank all drivers. According to your logic, someone finishing 2nd in the highest lobby deserves less points than someone winning against 1000 DR Drivers who would potentially be lapped in the highest lobby.

Oh, and regarding the logic of 'what incentive do D drivers have?', well let's talk about that
- If they are improving, and showing good performances against other D rated drivers, then their DR will increase, and they will become C, and then potentially, B, A, A+. Hence if they actually are performing well, they will get into more difficult and hence more personally competitive lobbies, and gain more points and should gain more enjoyment.
- And another incentive, and surely the biggest incentive is.....to race for fun

The FIA Live Events are there to bring the best of the best. If someone is rated D and is unable to get up from D, then they simply aren't the best of the best. That isn't an insult or anything. Do you really think every single driver taking part in the FIA Races does it because they want to go to Monaco or Las Vegas? No, of course not. You do realise people may just do it for fun, and for a competitive race.

You say 'a lower rated driver has never made it to a live event', and well....yes, of course.
If they were lower rated, that suggests they have a lower ability than other drivers. And well, only a few dozen drivers go to each live event. If they were good enough to compete at a live event, which is for the best of the best, then they wouldn't be lowly rated.

Finally, the idea of 'have rankings for each Driver Rating, like a D championship, C etc' is illogical because driver rating is a linear scale and someone at 49,999 DR (highest possible A rating) is not of the same ability as someone at 30,000 DR (lowest possible A rating). Similarly, 30,000 DR rated and 29,999 DR (B) are pretty identical in terms of ability yet wouldn't be racing against eachother. Once again, that idea promotes tanking so people can feel like they win something, but Driver Rating is a linear scale. The concepts of a letter rank is nothing more than a cosmetic.
From GT1 through to today, I race for fun and to watch my replays.

I already addressed why a lower ranked driver wouldn't go to the Finals. Never said they should have their own championship. At the end of the season, the way I was gifted earnings by an Australian winning and someone winning because I also used the winning manufacturer, is the only bonus any receives due to luck. If I was the highest ranking B/S player at the end of the season, why shouldn't I also get a bonus? Some people don't have the time to play, to keep earning points to move up. That's the other scale of why a player may be "stuck" in their lower ranking.

That would also create an unbelievable number of ties for a season. lets say there are 100 races per round (just using an easy number for the sake of easy maths, I actually have no clue how many there are), by using the idea you are saying, by the end of that night, 100 people would be tied with 1000 points, 100 people would be tied with 900, 100 would be tied with 800, and so forth... Now, being that 4 out of the 10 rounds count towards the championship, nearing the end, you would be sitting there with around 50% of the people tied at 4000 points, 25% tied at a little less, and so forth... The way it is now is not perfect, but it is damn good.

A side note here, S/S is not an actual ranking, a DR S player can be a A+,B,C,D. It is simply a symbolic DR to recognise your results in the previous FIA event. I an S/S currently, but in reality, when being matched, I am a DR A with around 40K points.

The reason racing series work with a standard points structure is that only 1 person can win the race, not 100. Think of it this way instead, yesterdays race had 2500 racers (hypothetical) first place got 2500 points, and it went down from there. because of not being able to fit 2500 racers on one track and one lobby, it is divided by tiers, which in consequence adjusts the points available...
The last sentence makes sense.

Hey mate no offence taken but here are the last 30 days of sr on kudos...i am unsure where you get the 75 from? Theres a 74 on day 311 but didnt fit in this screenshot

Edit the last real garbage sr i had was from 274-284which was due to the bluemoon bump draft delightfulness

I had not looked at the #’s I had only looked at the graph, which seemed to dip closer to 75 than the numbers indicate, but regardless, S is matched in 2 categories, as soon as you drop below 94, you get dinged into a lower lobby. The trick is keeping it at 99, with what you see in this graph, I never get the lobbies you get into.

I finally got around to doing a FIA race last night. Here in Iceland, the last timeslot is at 9pm, which is not so suited for me as I usually don't have free time until later at night.

Anyway, I did the Gr.4 @ Willows in Nations Cup. With only around an hour of practice, I managed to QF in 4th place. I'm a low DR B and a SR S (99/99). I drove the Toyota 86 Gr.4, while a big portion of the field was driving Alfas.

I opted for the medium tires and pitted around the middle of the race. Had a nice battle with another guy, forgot his name. Pretty uneventful race, very clean. I was comfortably in 4th place, with 6sec lead on the guy behind. But as my tires were pretty much dying, I lost a lot of time on the last three laps, and eventually lost 4th place in the last corner of the last lap :(

Was fairly happy with a 5th place finish, although I only scored 291pts for the race. At least I was highest finisher not driving a Afa :D

Really fun race, and I hope to be able to participate in more FIA events.

What do you think will be the most popular Gr.2 car(s) in the next Nations Cup race? IIRC the two Lexus cars usually got the short-end of the stick when it came to popular Gr.2 cars in general (Daily Races or championships), so have things changed much? Would you alternatively say there's much advantage offered with picking on Gr.2 car over the other, such as with their engine placement? Or how the two GT-Rs have different engines?

And which do you suppose will matter more in this next race: fuel pitting strategy, or tire wear? I recall in this most recent race with Gr.4 @ Big Willow that worrying over fuel was virtually negligible. I'd imagine it'll be similar with this next event, especially since I'm pretty sure you can pick between RM and RH tires like the last event.

I'm not sure why we are even having a debate about the point system.

I admit 89 points for a win is brutal, I'd get that if I finished 1 spot out of last in a B/S lobby. But that's why there is a DR system in place. That same guy who got 89 points for a win last week will be in a higher rated lobby this week, if he wins he'll get over a hundred or if he's inconsistent and has a poor finish he'll get dumped back down. A good driver will string a bunch of wins together(or at least good finishes) and improve their DR and eventually be in the rooms with the big boys. Think of the lower DRs as lower divisions with the A+ being F1 and D being 15 year old karters B being F3 ect. I've been a B/S driver for a year now and might finally get to A in a month or so on my current pace. B is where I plateaued for a while, I'd win, then finish 13th the next race because I couldn't compete in higher lobbies. It's a grind if your just an average racer. I've also looked at some of the top racers on Kudos and they got to A+ in a few weeks, so if your good enough you'll get there.

There is absolutely no reason why a DR C driver should get anymore points than they already do. As long as we have a DR systems in place, IMO it's ridiculous to even consider them getting the same points as the fastest guys on the planet.

Now, I am in favor of being able to view separate standings based on DR rating. SundayDriver mentioned it yesterday and I've been saying it for a while now. I've always just counted it myself, I'm currently 1st among DR B drivers is NA btw! Maybe we get a little credit bonus for winning our respective division but that will be it, no B driver FIA event or anything, leave those for the aliens.

Rankings among DR ranks makes no sense though. But if the digital license thing finally gets implemented, divisions could be made based on whichever license you managed to get.

Rankings among DR ranks makes no sense though.

If by saying "ranking among DR ranks" you are referring to the separate standings idea, it is not meant to serve any other purpose other than to give low DR drivers a little confidence boost or a more attainable goal to reach. Instead of them always looking at the standings and seeing "oh look I'm 729th overall, this is fun" they can look at where they rank among their same DR and maybe they are 5th place among C drivers. Giving "less good" drivers a chance to be first place in a lower division will keep the "less good" driver more engaged and keep them playing the game.

Like I said I've been stuck in DR B for a year now and am 86th overall RN, but if I only count the DR B drivers ahead of me, well I wouldn't find any because I am the highest ranked B driver in NA and I'll be the first one to tell you that feels pretty damn good.

The separation between each rank is an arbitary value that serves almost no other purpose other than to be a cosmetic.

I honestly like this idea, and I agree that there needs to be more incentive and morale-boosting elements for the lower ranks to keep them motivated and coming back. The ranking system works a lot better with more participation imo...

Sport mode keeps me coming back and I’ve been a D since launch. I’m cool with the way the DR system and FIA points system work.

Well DR points determine how many points you get in FIA races. But yea A B C or D don't really mean anything. I was just throwing out a counter suggestion to 05RX8's suggestion that lower DR should get mores points so they can actually compete.

But really, as a B driver I'm not competing against the A+ guys, it's not even close. They are literally on another level. The way points are given out doesn't give me a chance. Even if I won all 3 races I was able to do in Nations this season I wouldn't get as many points as the top split guys gets for winning one race, so it's not even a competition then. Right now I can only set little goals for myself like imporve my DR so one day I can compete, be top 20 in Canada, get top 50 overall, and personally I count the DR B drivers and make my own separate standings. I find it engaging and fun, and it keeps me playing the game. It would be a harmless feature to add that might make other racers more engaged in the game. They added that Primary Regions function last year, it doesn't mean anything it's just a smaller region where I'm competing against people who get as many points for finishing 10th than I do for winning.

I do the same with a group of online friends, there are 20 or so of us on our friends list, and we have our own mini championships, always trying to help each other get faster, safer, and better ratings. I am no where near competing with the A+ guys either, yet, I still enjoy being invited to their lobbies even tho I finish last. I do agree that there should be some sort of other morale booster for different tiers, it would keep more players engaged, and enlarge the playing field.

I'm fairly sure that's not what the digital license is about.

It's tied to your local real world racing authority, and is essentially meant to be recognition of having basic race knowledge and race craft, which gives you a small head-start regarding the theory/written test when applying for a real world race license.

The digital license applies to real world racing, not to anything within GT itself.

I know this is not the main purpose that was advertised, but they could still take the opportunity to also make something out of it in game. Maybe even use that for national live events or something, have Pro-Am fashioned races... Those digital licenses have a lot of potential. Now to see if they will even consider that kind of thing.

Just a few thoughts about the points system as this always seems to resurface in this thread from time to time. There are different suggestions and arguments about it and the main ones are:
  • Comparing the FIA points system to the real world - Don't know why this is even being mentioned, 25 points for a win in F1 is not comparable to 300 points for winning the Bathurst 1000 (obviously), points within each "league" are arbitrary and just a means to crown an overall champion. "What about the feeder series (like F1/F2/F3 or Supercars/Super2/Super3 or IndyCar/Indy Lights), they have ladder progression shouldn't we be comparing all of them on the same leaderboard?" NO! just because a series is a feeder series doesn't mean you can put them all on the one leaderboard GT Sport FIA Championship style. "What about soccer? You could rank all the teams from EPL down to Division 7(?)" Yes, you could but they are locked in divisions for an entire season with promotion/relegation every year but this is different. More on divisions later.
  • People wanting > 0 points for last place in a higher split - That would help me personally because I found myself at the bottom of the top split of Asia/Oceania in the first half of the 2018 final season before I started tanking (more on that below), yet we rip on the back markers in F1 for being "slow" but put them straight into any other category and they likely will be at least mid pack (within reason). I rip into them as well but for the sake of FIA GTC points you need to accept that this is the way PD have set the points. The cream will always rise to the top as we saw with all regional finals and of course the world finals with appearances from your usual famous GT players. It may be too complicated to add a base score for higher rooms and if you do that you might as well have divisions.
  • Tanking - I openly admit to this but it was known (at least to the regulars) that you get 0 points for last place in top split and very low points for the last few places, basically it's a linear scale in any FIA room. Why would I stay in the top split getting about 400 points per race when I can get around 1600+ per race in the second split? One thing that also contributed to my decision to tank is that based on season 2 I thought I could qualify for the regional finals as the last Australian if I averaged around 1700 so who knows if I would have tanked if the point system was different. Also if they keep Oceania separate from Asia this year then based on the current state of the exhibition season, I may have to rethink my strategy and/or suck less.
  • Divisional championships/prizes - "Divisions" if they are based on DR are not static, so if you want divisional championships they need to be locked in for the entirety on the official season, I personally think that's not feasible however it's a bit like being locked in to a manufacturer for all 3 official seasons last year...
  • PD doesn't care about non-aliens/civilians/people that race for fun - Yeah they do, if they didn't they would run it similar to the official Project CARS championship where you have to register and compete in teams and run qualifying time trials and the leaderboard would only contain those that have a chance of the next stage. Like Kaz said, "Sport is for everyone" so everyone that participates gets ranked so at least you have something to compare to others.
The points system is not perfect, however we have had enough experience to analyse it and prepare for it. I assume it also hasn't changed since the beginning of the FIA test seasons whenever that was (was it mid/late 2017 with the beta?). The main challenge is to rank EVERYONE on a single leaderboard where rooms are capped at 20. In addition, what ironically happened with the Top 24 Superstar races is it created a division. So maybe, just maybe that's how they artificially created a "division" without actually creating one. Only problem was there were a few more spots to make up for in each regional final and that's where I found myself and that's why I looked into the numbers and strategised/tanked. If I knew I didn't have a chance at the regionals then I wouldn't care so much but being the competitive person that I am I would still try my best just to see where I ranked and how far away I was from the next stage. That's how I looked at it for GT Academy when it was on. I knew I wouldn't qualify via online time trial leaderboard but I tried my best to see how far off I was. That was also the same with the GT5 weekly time trial leaderboard, at first I would be happy to be in the top 1000 and even happier when I made top 500. There were a few times I would be in the top 200 or 100 when I had a specialty car/track combo and that's when I'd be really happy even though there were no prizes to gain, just leaderboard fame.

TL;DR - Points system is not perfect but hasn't changed, cream rises to top, stop asking for divisions unless you want to be locked in one for a whole year (which, to be fair, some people do), try your best whatever your skill level to see how close/far you are from regionals/prizes, at least you have something to compare with friends/rivals, I'm still going to tank if it will get me to the regional final.

In regards to tanking, I know it's usually frowned upon everywhere, but this game is kinda designed to make you tank anyway.

Eventually most of us just plateau. Personally I got to a point in DR where the game keeps putting me into a higher lobby for a while and I just keep finishing poor then it movea me down again and I'll start having success again.

You just you plateaued at the top split where you just couldn't crack the very top. If you keep finishing at the bottom your DR will drop and yiud be back at the lower lobby where you'd start to have successful again and so on. Its the circle of life.

Agreed. I think I've plateaued a bit, still working on trying to improve but I think my driving style needs to change a little bit.

I hear you on the struggles at the back of the top split... And the points definitely don't justify the difficulty. But the only way to work your way up that top split is to race with them and pick them off a bit at a time. Eventually you'll break that barrier.
As far as finals are concerned I totally get slipping back to second split from a strategic standpoint, but try to use this off-season to get some time behind the best of the best. It may be a pain but you simply won't find that extra speed without that extra challenge.

Yep it's currently a good challenge as there's no possibility to tank this season with the separate Oceania player pool, I have no where to hide and have to race against the top Aussies and Kiwis instead of the second tier Japanese/rest of Asia

From GT1 through to today, I race for fun and to watch my replays.

Then why are you so concerned about your rank?

I already addressed why a lower ranked driver wouldn't go to the Finals. Never said they should have their own championship. At the end of the season, the way I was gifted earnings by an Australian winning and someone winning because I also used the winning manufacturer, is the only bonus any receives due to luck. If I was the highest ranking B/S player at the end of the season, why shouldn't I also get a bonus?

Because you already get a participation award for completing sport mode races. It's paltry compared to GT League, but that's another issue.

Some people don't have the time to play, to keep earning points to move up. That's the other scale of why a player may be "stuck" in their lower ranking.

If you are good enough it doesnt take long to reach DR:A or higher.

I also don't see how it can be enforced, given DR and SR, subsequently who you match with, will change throughout the season.

No No no. My point is to make the points even for each level of rank. Not the points it takes to reach from C to B, etc. I already made it clear, I don't expect a C driver(it was made clear it's a cosmetic rank or whatever) to be given a ticket to the finals because they are on same points as an A+ player. It's the incentive for racing full stop

As of yesterday evening, after about three clean races, I was bumped up to A/S(I don't look up the DR points like most here do). I did some Daily races. One player bumped into me side by side. I got an orange arrow. Lost my clean streak and was back in B/S land. Happens to everyone. Thing is, my goal isn't to be number 1. my goal isn't to be anything. I just want to race. However, it doesn't make sense that casual players amongst hardcore players, get cheap points just based on where they fall in the overall rankings. That's my point.

Some posts pointed outhow the FIA points work overall. I read them. That's all my suggestion, thought, is about. So, people that are getting uptight just relax. We're all discussing whatever we'd like in and about this game. All good.

Why is this discussion on the points system lasting so long? I thought it was a pretty simple concept. If you're in a split with higher DR drivers, you need to be faster to win the race and therefore deserve more points if you do win. If this points system bothers you, just think of the FIA as an extra biweekly race C that features in-lobby qualifying. Race for the thrill of racing, and only worry about the points if and when your DR reaches A/A+...

I'll be hosting a lobby this evening(in North America) for Nations, all are welcome. Look for the title Nations Practice(Free Run,Tire&Fuel Simulation)

I'm thinking about making this one a 10 minute endurance race to simulate qualifying instead of my usual free run. But maybe not, at least with free run people can do what they want. You can sim your own qualifying sesh or sim the race if you want.

Let's be honest. As it stands now, points are only relevant to the top drivers trying to reach Regionals/Finals. Even then, they're not truly indicative of a driver's skill since a room's field determines the amount available. If you play enough in Sports mode, you'll start recognizing those drivers that you're constantly competing against. Forget the points. Find a way to get ahead of those drivers.

I will note that one of my recommendations I gave to PD was find a way to get lower ranked drivers a chance to be seen out there. I would love to do an inverted field type exhibition competition where the top guys have to find a way to get to the front. Cleanly!

Be careful, I can see people getting ready to complain about your post. :sly:

I disagree, I was matched with 3rd tier drivers last Nations race because of ny sportsmanship rank. Only 424 points for winning.

Yeah but I'm talking about tanking DR not SR, and it only works if you can get decent points in second split so you aren't really disagreeing with me
