3 sec penalty for me
should I leave him room?

In another thread, someone posted an extract from a book on racing that has a diagram of what happened there, to illustrate the classic overtaking manoeuvre. According to that book, because you were on the inside, and ahead, at the point of turn in, the corner belonged to you, and the other car should have dropped in behind you, not continued to drive alongside. You could have been significantly farther back, according to that book, and the corner would still have been yours, provided at least half of your car was overlapping the car on the outside.

The tyres wear was horrible for the nation's cup, only just managed a one stop with s/s tyres in the V8 vantage with a DS4. Tyres were basically dead at the end of lap 6.
You're right about that. I had similar issues with the tires in today's Nations Cup race. I herefore have extremely negative views regarding tire physics in this game.
Speaking of today's Nation Cup race, I had been absolutely dissatisfied with not only my qualifying (started 9th), but also the entire race where I finished 12th. I had been driving more roughly and agressively in this round than ever before. As a result, my SR was downgraded from S to B. I had held the S rating since March 27. I had enough of Gr. 2 as a result of this disasterous race.

Now to the Manufacturers Series race. I felt disatisfied and uncomfortable with how I had performed at Red Bull Ring. Therefore I decided to boycott this race. This was the second consecutive MS race I refused to participate in. I'm through with today's both races!

have only just come back to GTSport after a few months away from the game playing other stuff. Did both the Nations and Manufacturers Cup last night - wow how things have changed and how far I've fallen off the pace (although to be fair on a DS4 was always 3secs off the Top 10 times) and my fair rank is B/S

Nations Cup was ranked with DR S/A drivers, no way of running at the front, ranked 18/18 for the race qualified 16th and ran the race there, no issues with other drivers and everyone was pretty well behaved, tires and fuel seemed to burn off a bit quicker than I remembered.

Manufacturers Cup was where the fun really began, driving the Merc and ranked 6/18 started 4th with a good qualifying lap which could have been better if not held up by a Porsche driver. Once the flag dropped it went nuts, a mustang and porsche wanted to go door to door and collateral damage came from everywhere, including myself who got hit in the side by one of them then I got a 4sec penalty - good to see the penalty system is still working awesome. The Merc was horrible on tires, but for some reason amazing on fuel, made it a 1 tire stop race.... finished 4th and was gaining the top 3 at the end but fell short (if only I hadnt had the penalty).

Front RMs were garbage in the Scirocco after 4 laps...but persevered with the no stop strategy and ended up 7th (was 8th before the stops) for 1300 something points. I qualified 5th, that race might have been fun, with reasonable wear...like that’ll happen.

It mostly helped that there was some incident on lap 1 that created a 7 second gap between 8th and 9th, or else I would’ve finished much worse.

I was shocked that a 4C won.

What an absolute disaster in Fuji. All three slots, my qualifying was bad and I could go nowhere because of the constant divebombing or literally getting pushed around. Also, my tire wear was poor and all the 2nd gear corners really hurt the VGT. I could've had a Top 5 had I just put a good flier together.

Conversely, my first podium in Nations since forever although the field was rather thin. I am most likely abandoning Nations since who's going is all but a foregone conclusion. The Gr3 RCZ is quite nice in twisty combos although the VGT is still capable as well. Its width and 1st/2nd gears hurts it, though.

The Gr4 works better if you slap on harder tires on the front and add TC. Admittedly, still requires careful throttle application to make full distance although I believe it will do great in qualifying on power tracks. Just try and hold up everyone at the end.
I should have taken your advice! :banghead: Shame on me. In mfg, with all soft. I qualified p5, rose to P2, pit lap 5 with solid red front tires. The gap I had in the beginning closed in on me by mid race. Went with soft again. Bad decision, by lap 8 they were shot. No speed or control. Gone.... I added TC, sent brake bal a notch to the rear, too little, too late. Finished 13th. It was pathetic. People were flying past like I was a pizza delivery guy with a bad address.

Next time I’ll listen! I’m going to run it again tonight. Med front and TC 1.

Edit: second try, started 7 on med, finished 5 on med. I was happy to have held on. You were right!

The only car that got close to me in second was a 4C (I was in the SLS). The light cars really have an advantage through BoP I think, just look at the Cayman: won the race I was in by 20 seconds. Also the lighter cars are easier to manoeuvre into position, where they can dart around the corner and maintain revs. I could only keep up by drifting, not the best strategy for tires ;P

Can't wait for the next round - Super Formula at Catalunya!

Disappointing run in the Gr. 4 Ferrari at Red Bull Ring. The no stop on mediums seemed to have much worse handling and wear than in the practice lobbies. Throw a 3s penalty on top of that because someone sideswiped me and then left the track.

13th for 620 points after qualifying 13th in a 1800 point room.

Think I'm just done. So effing tired of getting punted, they don't get penalties, I do, and my rating goes down. I qualify well, and it just plain doesnt matter what I do anymore. It's gotten completely unenjoyable. Nobody races clean, they use your bumper for brakes. Just plain sick of it.

Arrrg. Really think I could have won tonight had I managed to get a qualifying lap in! I fuelled burned to give myself 2 laps at the end, then someone comes out of the pits in front of me and races the whole lap. I'm flashing but he obviously can't see me cause he probably uses chase cam. He stayed ahead of me enough during the lap but on the 2nd last turn he was super slow, I caught him, rear ended him because he took it so slow and i picked up a penalty ruining my next lap too. I should have done the 2nd lap even with the penalty in hindsight. My pace was so good here I may still have gotten halfway up the field.

Speaking of good pace, I managed p19 to p7! Got the 2nd fastest lap too. Imagine if I would have started in the top 5 like I should have. Sucks because I only get one chance on Wednesdays because if my schedule.

In the final slot I had 1900pts for 3rd in the bag. Then a dive and I get pushed wide on final corner closing lap 10, pushed wide same guy turn 1, pushed wide again turn 2, get 5s penalty going down the straight to turn 3, torpedoed off the track in turn 3!! LOL!! I will post the video tomorrow, the stream is still processing. It was hard to believe.

It's not hard to believe at all anymore. I see it Everytime I attempt a race.

This was by far my best performace in a manufacturer race. I decided do do a no stop right before race time. But since I am crazy I did it on race soft tires. I slowly pulled away for the entire race from the pack. Finished with a total time of 17:53.1xx.

I knew you were going to win that race, that machine is deadly in your hands. Love the GR4 Hyundai, most underrated car in the game. Really regretting my decision to go with Nissan for the season. Nice race.

I didn't enjoy Manufacturers, the only way to win was to drive slowly and save tyres, God forbid you win by actually racing and going as fast as you can.

Did Nations 3 times. First was the one I had the best qualifying lap, 29.8, which only put me 6th, less than 2 tenths behind pole, very competitive room. Got divebombed in the hairpin and the game decided to give me a 5s pen for that. Quitted the race to warm up for manufacturers. 2nd slot was not a good race from me and on the 3rd slot (video below), an average qualy lap put me on pole, and from there it was a matter of managing tyres and fuel.

Manufacturers did only once. Qualy lap was crap, 6th on the grid. Went for the non stopper on mediums, and worked great. Again, big points for Jaguar in the manufacturers rankings.

So tell us, how do you feel about Formula One :)
I like F1 it's amazing, the best drivers in the best purpose built cars, it's a fantastic spectacle with a lot of history. Not sure what it's got to do with sitting in my bedroom playing a video game though! :)

First of all, the Nation's Cup race. Started 5th, but spun on lap 6 before the final turn as I was preparing the run up to the straight by going with a wide entry. Too wide, because I touched the edge of the track sending me off. Lost two spots. Still had two laps of fuel, but decided I'm losing too much time with the spin. Rejoined back in 10th before fighting my way back in 7th. So that's +1300 points.

I felt it was not enough, because without the mistake, I could have had a better race. So I decided to do it again, but this time... disastrous.
As I was going for my final qualifying run, going into T1, some Italian (with PSN: 'ERMANNOHR') thought brakes weren't necessary going into T1. I got punted off... So that's qualifying ruined. Saw my current start position 6th dropping as each car crossed the line after their final qualifying run. The result: I was down in 17th after the last car crossed the line.

The race was even more disastrous... As the race was about the start the car in front of me went to a full stop, which meant the pack already had a large gap in front of us. Then suddenly the car in front decided to go, which meant cars behind me were alongside. Yes, you could guess it again the Italian yet again thought he could use my car as an aid to slow down his car. So I got punted off... again, But I'm not quiting without giving a try. I went no stop on Mediums. on fuel mix 3-6 throughout the race. At a certain moment I was up in 4th, but yeah speed difference with cars on full power and fresh rubber meant I was getting overtaken left and right. By the end of the race I was down in 17th where I started. I only got 300 points. Little did I know that this would be my points for this round instead of the +1300 earlier.

I wonder why this Italian player is in the FIA races in the first place...

The Manufacturers race, however, was brilliant. Qualified only 7th, but put the Mediums on for the race and just kept my cool and took the race distance on the set of tires. No stopping meant I finished 2nd. So that's +1800 points gained for a clean and composed race without penalties. The most points I have ever been awarded for a points race.

Nations
Felt confident on this as it was last weeks Daily Race. Qualified P10 but only .5s off the lead so wasn't concerned. Auto drive kicks in and GRID GLITCH! The car in P8 doesn't move. P9 moves past him but the rest of us get stuck. The game wiggles me through the stationary car just as the countdown timer ends. This leaves me in no mans land with a huge gap to the top 8 and a gap to everyone behind me bunched up together. Turn 1 for them must have been utter carnage. It was a fun race as I catch up to the main pack. I knew that no stopping was quicker but just felt happier pushing harder on the softer tyre so opted for a pit stop. Lap 5 the car ahead of me takes a bad line through the long right hander and I end up along side him on the approach for the hard left. For some reason he just turns into me knocking me off the track. I slide through the corner and as I recover get hit by another car spinning me around. I do manage to recover quickly and head to the pits.

Being at a mid DR:B level you do see some varied pit strategies. Some pit as I did at the end of lap 5. Some at the end of lap 6. And some started on the hard tyre but drove flat out to pit at lap 7 and switch to mediums. I wasn't aware of any no stoppers. The upshot of all that was putting me up to P6.
Last lap, last corner the two cars ahead of me come together putting one car off track who spins in front of me. The other car gets a 2s penalty. As I follow that car over the line he slams his brakes on which I was really not happy about. I can't believe he thought he could get rid of his penalty as that's not been the case for a while now so assume he was trying to get ME a penalty and preserve his position. Anyway I avoid him so P4 for me 👍 If it wasn't for the glitch at the start and being spun I'd have been on the podium for sure.

Manufacturers
Utter utter frustration and it was all my own fault. Gave myself 2 flying laps in qualy. Spun myself out on the exit of turn 1 on the first lap and gave myself a penalty on the second. Start 19th out of 19.
I'd actually done a decent amount of practice and knew if I could string 11 clean laps together that no stopping would be quickest. Unfortunately I couldn't do that. :(
I allow myself to get drawn into a battle going into turn 3, I'm on the inside, and I completely miss my braking point ending up in the gravel. I recover and carry on. Most people pit and I get up to I think P8 but there is a long line of cars not far behind me on fresh tyres. I try and push but spin myself out at turn 1 again. Last position again. Again on the last lap 2 cars ahead of me come together and it was only for that, I do not finish last.
Utterly disappointing race on my part.👎

Does anyone know roughly what they set the initial fuel at for these races?
AFAIK there's never been any FIA (or daily, for that matter) race where it wasn't 100%/100l.

Results do mean that I am up to A+ for the first time ever :)
Congratulations!

Incidentally, P4 in Nations (starting from P4 with just under 1:31, 2-3 tenths behind pole; podium might have been possible if it wasn't for some mistakes) got me to A+ for the first time as well. :dopey:

It's almost pointless running the Gr.4 Mazda at any race with tyre wear. We've got people talking about the RBR race no-stopping and one-stopping on softs, and the Atenza can barely one-stop on mediums. The Gr.3 car is great and can hang with most things on most tracks, but the Gr.4 is a slow-ass, tyre-chewing dog - good on brakes and, with fresh tyres, good through-corner speeds, but turgid in a straight line and insta-dead tyres.

I need a Gr.4 ND MX-5, or the Roadster TC from GT6, or an RX-8, or literally anything else.

RX-Vision would have been nice. However, the ND RF would also make a nice Gr.4 car.

I think the Evo is the oldest Gr.4 model. So, maybe RX-7 RM, from GT5P, could have been yet another option in the Mazda Gr.4 camp.

I really feel for anyone who now has one of the 4WD Gr.4 cars. The tyre wear on these was a challenge in previous seasons, but with this seasons ultra-high tyre wear makes them next to useless. Fortunately as you say the Gr.3 Atenza is solid and a really good all rounder so still plenty of chances for points. It must be frustrating though seeing the Gr.4 races and thinking 'what's the point'.

I have a similar feeling about Gr.4 races but only because I struggle with these more than Gr.3 for some reason.

Well at least PD wont have massive tyre wear on tough tracks for the rest of the season in Gr.4 races...

Brands Hatch - Fuel: 7x, Tyre: 19x
Big Willow - Fuel: 4x, Tyre: 19x
Autopolis - Fuel: 5x, Tyre: 16x

erm, have you considered taking up golf?

Yeah after finishing dead last in the GT-R last night (I qualified 17th and was as high as 12th before I got pushed wide through turn 4) I'm going to stick with my original intention of ignoring the Gr.4 races. 19x tyre wear at Willow ****ing Springs is about the worst thing imaginable in this game.

So for me was the first time i tried FIA Racing, and only manufacturer because i can only start playing after 22:30. First two round i won them, althought first one was easy for my SR was a only 89 and the lobby was farly poor. Rd2 Some S and A+ and won it, this round started 8th and finnished 2nd also S and A+ lobby.

I really need to improve qualy and overall consistency on tyre wear. In practice i was doing 1:35s my qualy was a horrible 1:36:5 i think. And then on the race when tyre wear kicks in i get nervous and go slower than i can and sloppier too, eating even more tyres... bahh

I'm going with porsche, did a no stop on mediums. BB +3.

For the first and last time on both races i've raced with the no stop option . It was the most boring moment i've spent playing GT Sport. PD need to change this urgently,

I'm not a fan of Gr.4's either. The Cayman bogs down when lower than 6k revs. It genuinely isn't going quick enough for my taste. For the moment I really enjoy Gr.3, Gr.1 and the Super Formula.

PD needs to make the races at least 1h long.
