No multiple tries.
No info on tyre wear and fuel burn multipliers before race.
No practice session allowed.

Less focus on practice and rewarding people who spend endless hows calculating all possible race starts. Let’s see who is the best by leveling the playing field.
I‘m absolutely with you, as I‘ve written something similar in @Pigems Thread/Poll about FIA Races Schedule.
But, let’s face the hard facts, it won’t change nothing in terms of the best Gamers who have a realistic Shot at making it to a Live Event.
The best will still be the best, you can turn and twist it however you like, that’s the truth.
People like us, casual Gamers, will never make it to a live event, Period.
On the other Hand, these drastic Changes, if done, would drastically decrease the Player Base.
I‘d say PD is trying to make a good Job in making GTS as Entry friendly as possible to everyone who loves Racing Games.
Anything that would make the Player Base shrink is a bad step and therefore Contraproductive.

So, in addition to my Nations sortie last night, I also decided to have a crack at Laguna Seca just to see if I could get any bonus points in Manufacturers. And boy was I in for a wild ride...

Knew from the early practice sessions that it was going to be tough trying to get clean runs in both qualifying and race conditions. Again, the 21:00 lobby I entered had a fairly diverse grid, including two runners from the EMEA Top 10. Set a reasonable time of 1:28.674 on my second flying lap, but had my fair share of incidents including a close call with a Subaru going through the Corkscrew and a big off on my third flier at Turn 6. This blew any hopes of further improvements out of the water - my tyres had reached a fairly worn stage on the fourth lap - and so I started down in 13th. Looking at the results table, I thought the three tenths gained before my big off would've only been sufficient to gain a couple of places, so it wasn't a bad place to be in in hindsight.

As for the race...

To sum it up, a lot went wrong my way. Tried the old-fashioned trick of starting on Hards so I could get more pace out of the Medium compounds later, but found myself losing ground very early on after sliding, touching the sand and launching up the sausage kerbs far too often. Thought there was no point trying to fight back as I dropped three places to those running Mediums, but eventually began setting consistent high-1:29/low to mid-1:30 laps through to the pitstop cycle. Finally took on Mediums on Lap 8, slotting myself neatly at the back of the pack. Began reeling in the yellow Audi TT struggling on Hards and got close enough to attempt a pass on Lap 11 just beyond the Tire Bridge. Sadly, while I had the run and the inside line to Turn 4, the TT turns into my left-hand side; there's contact, the TT goes off into the sand, and I feel compelled to slow down and let him back past out of guilt. Was hesitant to pull off another pass until we reached the start/finish straight, but once I did, it seemed like I had a clear road ahead.

While more pitstops and errors from other drivers put me in a good position to make up at least one place, I was still making a lot of mistakes on my own which lead to me falling back again. On Lap 15, I get too close to the sausage at Turn 6, bouncing and spearing off through the sand and gravel, and do almost the exact same thing again on Lap 17. Coupled with a sketchy run through the Corkscrew, and I quickly lose a place to the Lambo on slightly healthier Mediums. Ultimately crossed the line 15th for 115 points.

Wasn't too bothered about doing the last slot, as I felt that my total score would still be good enough for a top 10 finish in the Citroen rankings. Plus, it was still worthwhile gaining experience around Laguna Seca in Gr.4 machinery; can confirm that the Citroen is ideal for this circuit providing that you have the consistency to avoid the sand and sausage kerbs. As is, I have a long way to go before I can achieve that sort of consistency in any scenario...

At Season's End

Though I had only intended to do a couple of rounds, both of the recent Exhibition seasons can be summed up in one word for me: spectacular. Yes, there were a few low points in Manufacturers, but I honestly didn't expect to get a win in each championship, or to earn and sustain an A+ rank over the course of later rounds. Even now, I still can't believe how brilliantly the Gr.1 Spa race turned out for me; nailed qualifying, nailed the race with only a few minor issues in the second stint, and made the most of an LMP1 car I felt especially comfortable in. Had plenty of thrilling battles, sampled a stable but bombastic Gr.3 car in the form of the GT-R GT3, experimented with mixed compounds while they were still enabled, and overall felt as if I'm starting to take my consistency and general pace up another notch.

And this speaks for my results as well. Victory and 3rd place in Gr.1, along with another run of regular top 10 finishes, bagged me a total of 1,124 points in Nations, enough for 59th in EMEA and 8th in the UK. While my run for Citroen in Manufacturers didn't work out as smoothly, it still lead to a hard-fought Gr.3 victory on my 'debut' at Sardegna, propped up by additional 6th place finishes for each version. To put it simply, both versions are nimble, economical, well-balanced cars, even if they aren't the most predictable to handle or the fastest in a straight line. And even if my general lack of experience round Laguna Seca stopped me from improving my score at the final hurdle, I can still feel satisfied with my total of 977 points. Finishing 150th in EMEA and 4th for Citroen, despite having two mediocre showings at Monza and Maggiore GP II, is a fine bonus to add to my Nations dream run.

Not likely to take part in Exhibition Season 3 other than the occasional race I actually fancy doing; want to focus on other things outside of GT Sport while recharging my batteries for the next main seasons.

Until then... good luck and Happy New Year to you all! :gtpflag:

It would be nice to know the answer to this question in advance of round 1, wouldn’t it ! ?

I guess that we will find out on Tuesday if multiple race entries are still allowed or if it is just one slot per round per driver.

Both have their +/-

In real life, there is only 1 chance to do a race, so the risk vs. reward decision making is different, compared to having multiple chances at it.

There is also the question of how the later time slots matchmaking and points would be affected, if only 1 entry is permitted per round. In the past, with the 1 entry system, the early time slots full of students and other non workers (ha ha) were where the big points were available !
It says nothing about it in the schedule change notes:

Looks like they're trying out a shorter qualifying session for this season
Hmm, I don't mind only having a single chance at a flying lap, but only if they have us all doing it on an empty track. There's so much randomness in qualifying, with extremes of getting a perfect slipstream all lap on the one hand, or having your lap ruined by a car that started ahead of you on the other. There's nothing you can do to control it, I've had a lap ruined by a car that started its lap 10 seconds before me, and if you want the chance of a fast slipstream assisted lap, you're pretty much forced to risk starting a second or so behind another car, and praying that they do a reasonable lap. So 5 minute qualifying is just going to make the randomness even worse.

A great way to improve qualifying is to make it more frantic and condensed. Not like, say, offering an iRacing-like solution where you get two laps with no other cars on track so that it's only a test of who can set the fastest lap, rather than who can burn the most fuel, save their tyres the best on an out lap or get lucky with traffic. I enjoy qualifying as it is, but while it's nice for the sense of realism and high stakes, the fuel situation is ridiculous and completely unnecessary.

There is a lot of top cars and around 5 to 6 brands i could drive next season.
Finally i hesitate a lot between Honda , Citroen and Renault.
Renault was my final choice between the 3 brands just because of his excelent cockpit view . The honda too but right side pilot seat is a problem for me.
I want to drive cockpit view as often as possible in the future because it's very fun . With a clear view i'm almost as fast as any other view and i'm sure practice will help a lot.

I don't mind high stakes, and randomness arising from things within my control, such as the random variation in my own lap times, but I think the size of impact the slipstream lottery has is a bit silly. It's like if the game gave you a puncture with 90+% probability on each flying lap, that's about the chance you have of having your qualifying lap ruined with how it is at the moment. It's okay if you're in top split and your best buddy is the fastest driver in the lobby and happy to tow you around, but in lower splits it's a huge lottery.

Had an absolutely infuriating manufacturers race. Spent a bunch of my day getting ready for it, timed my qual lap the best I could and got on to p2 which I was really surprised about. First corner p1 goes super wide and I get through on the inside very cleanly. Didn't even make it to corkscrew before he's punted me into another galaxy. Reset onto track, get to the straight and someone else pit maneuvers me for unknown reasons. Reset again, 10+ sec off the back in last place, rage quit.

SR system is far too easy to get S on.

I knew I forgot something in my list. Look at the second round of Nations

Does anyone know if we will be able to change Manufacturer again before the official season? I'm guessing we can but can't see anything about it on the GTS news page.

My condolences to SpacedustDaddy
Apparently you can’t choose the Gr.4 Supra?

I feel your pain. As RACECAR mentioned, I knew day 1. Still went with Toyota. It's just Exhibition. Well, we'll see what happens with additional cars, in a couple months.

The Gr.3 Mazda RX-VGT should be a treat( a Gr.4 would have been better). However, Gr.3 gets more exposure and Mazda don't look to be playing any *gulp* "games".

Edit: I'm one second off 10th spot. Majority are using the F-Type. Might have to open a lobby to see how the Supra goes versus F-Type.

I went with Honda for the first exhibition season of 2019 and the cockpit view was quite good. You have both a rear view mirror and a right side mirror. I agree, the RHD aspect can feel a bit off at first but youd be surprised at how quickly you orient to it after spending time with the car.

The mirrors are a bonus over the Renault. That Renault handles and sounds like a dream though. I think of all of the GR 3 cars, the cockpit view in the Citroen is the most restrictive.

Completely forgot about that, guess that GR.3 livery I just made for the Atenza is useless now

I mainly only do the Manufactures series so I am extremely happy to have the weekend races moved to Sunday. Saturday is my go out and do things day, I don't want to be sitting around the house on Saturday night when I could be on the local Touge with my real car or attending a car event. The added time slots almost mean nothing to me, will only get to compete in the last 3 races on Wednesday anyways. HUGE positive with the qualifying being shortened to 5 minutes.

With that said, contract signed with Aston Martin.

No. You must choose a new one when entering a Manu race or practice.
Ah. The Toyotas are still in my garage. Now I'm thinking of holding out. I'm stuck on this Gr.4 Supra.

None of the Manu races look flash. I do like that Sainte Croix B and Red Bull Ring. Those have been a while to run Gr.4.

Nations track list looks slightly better to me, with Spa, DTG and the 993 at LS.

My first actual race at Laguna was not great. Mustang too much of a pig to get around.

Got a BS penalty first Nations try and got wiped out by a crashing car the second try. Finished with a podium last try but frustrating all that pace was wasted. Decided to put my effort in the prior Nations instead.

Decided to stay with Ford using the GT for Group 3 this time. I have always struggled with MR cars in this game so this will be a new challenge for me.
