No doubt some players drive to build their rating, just so they can exact havok.
That's a 'special' kind of mentality for sure. If I was good enough to get that high a rating, I'd do my utmost to stay there. I freely admit to red mist sometimes if I've been truly bullied by some mad idiot, but never would I go on some crazy hunter killer mission like that.

Well, that was divebombs for days, and people defending 14th place like it was a cure for COVID.

One nobber actually sent me a "wtf?" after the race... after he'd decided not to yield at Warsteiner and hit me off, or at the chicane and hit me off, then hit me off the inside of turn 2 because I wasn't actually there, then tried to brake check in turn 3, and then dive into me in turn 4 because I'd tapped the rear of his car when he brake checked, then hit me again in turn 6... all in row. That was after I'd spent the entire previous lap giving him racing room and picking my spots carefully.

I mean, it's a good question, but aimed the wrong way down the wand, asshat.

My apologies if this is in the wrong place, but I am frequently confused by the 'pit tyre requirements' in the Nations Cup. Can someone please confirm to me whether I need to run both soft AND medium during the current race to avoid a penalty? Or whether I can run either exclusively? Many thanks in advance.

Here you go, this will cover the entire season for you. :)

Here is a driver I lag punted on Sunday:

Untitled1.png

He was the one I posted about who called me an unknown French name after the race. He took 2nd and 3rd off in the opening two laps.

Here is someone from the Nations race at Dragon Trail the other week:
Untitled2.png

On the last lap he was in 4th, I was in 5th behind him. He went too deep into the hairpin at the top of the circuit and ran into 2nd and 3rd. As he got a poor exit I went to pass him on the right, he tried to push me off. At the start of the esses he divebombed and shoved me out the road, giving me an SR down arrow (he got a blue end of race rating to my red despite getting a penalty for ramming someone else off). This guy's done over 2300 races.

I'm sure it varies on an individual basis. Some are trolls and don't care. Some have short tempers. Some want to game the system for easy wins and have no regard for the consequences. Me, I don't see the point. It's not about undermining your own achievement/ability, it's about wasting your own time never mind everyone else's.

Streaming the FIA as always :)! If it's a boring race I'll pick some unusual cars... or maybe not unusual for me for later slots.

For anyone not watching now,10 people didnt even get a qualifying time because of fuel burning chaos going into final turn of outlap as time was expiring before getting a timed lap in. Everyone was fighting/ghosting to not be anywhere near the top of the slip stream. Qual time for P10 was 10 seconds off P1.

I mean, players can't be that obsessed with a win, can they?

Well... Gio won first slot with 360-something points and is still racing. Almost like he's trying to win every slot just so no one else can.

I’ve seen a fairly high number of start top five smash and vanish the last few months.

Ran a better race second time round, and got back to SR S, yay.

Bizarrely, after the race I got a message from a Croatian driver asking why I took T1 like that. Turns out he was talking about lap three when I got smashed from behind by a French driver, straight through the corner and sideways, into a couple of other cars.

Didn't really have a say in it, dude. Got a clean race bonus though so... eh.

1st Race, Didn't realise I had to use both tyre compounds, Finished 1st but lovely 20 Second surprise penalty had me finish 9th in the end...

Next 3 Races. Disconnection Errors after or before Qualifying... GREAT. Beyonddddd frustrating.

Left It & Had a Beer came back for the Final Race of the evening. Managed to whack It on Pole with a lovely time of 2:03:999,

I was amazed with the standard of driving in my last race. Everyone in Top 5 gave each other space. We'd overtake each other. Wait and get each other back on next corner. Thrilling to drive right to the very end. Managed to get another Race Win tonight & Clean Race Bonus. Cheery would have been Fastest Lap in the Race but I got Pipped by the chap in 3rd on Lap 8! Nice bit of points for me before bed! :gtpflag:

Totally uncompetitive tonight for some reason, I only did Slot 2. Door 18 in the Megane Trophy, I qualified P18 of 19 starters, over 4.5s off the pace. Only 4 non-Meganes in the race.

Deciding a good result was off the cards, I opted to just be cautious, starting on Ms and pitting for Ss on Lap 5, still P18 but last by 7.4s. At the end of Lap 8, I was P16 of 17 and had reached a French Ferrari, deghosting at the chicane. Rather than risk SR, I stuck behind it even though I could likely have passed and even challenged the car ahead of it by race end.

I had numerous opportunities to get by. We were P14 and P15 going into the final lap, due to a Spanish Megane spinning, and that's how it finished. P13 though, as two got the usual 20s tyre penalty. 37 points but a CRB. Decided to save the CRB rather than risk them for possibly no increase in points.

So, I'll belatedly post the weekend's 'highlights' reports...

Nations EMEA

Slot 2
P13 start in the Supra (Door 17), rising to P10 for several laps until an error ahead put me in P9 at the end of Lap 6. A few laps holding off a Swedish and a Austrian Supra for P7 went to waste when the Austrian (who'd already bump-passed me at the beginning of the race) tried to pass half on the grass on my right, midway round Lap 14/15 and forced me off the track on the left, dropping me to P9. I re-passed at the start of the final lap to finish an annoyed P8 by half a car length. 53 Points.

Slot 3:
Door 17, qualified P13. Passed the same Austrian for P8 on Lap 9. P8 on Lap 10, he tried a robust move on the outside of the final corner, resulting on several bumps and him being on the grass on the outside before the chicane. He bumped me through the chicane next lap. losing him a place to the Swede from the previous race.

The Austrian retook the place on Lap 13 and promptly smacked into the rear of my car in the esses and again at the final corner. And again on the pit straight, before another half-on-grass pass to put me off at the same place as the previous race! P9 once the Swede had passed again. I got past the Swede to finish P8 again.

Nations N America

Slot 1:
Door 18, qualified P4, again in the Supra. P3 on Lap 5 became P5 after a rough pass on Lap 5, but I regained a place before the end of the lap. A poor exit from the chicane dropped me a place again, and a sudden loss of grip at the final bend on Lap 11 dropped me to P6. But a very nice 76 points. Certainly not risking that!

Manu EMEA

Slot2:

Qually was crazy, with the lag! Even a car flying through the air ahead of me!

I could only manage P16 in my Door 3 Alfa. I was punted off at the top of the climb before the hairpin descent by a Polish Jaguar. I recovered to P8 on Lap 8 and pitted (S to M), returning to the race in P12. I finished in P5, after two cars got the 20s penalty. 61 points.

I may add N America sometime tomorrow, along with tonight's shenanigans

So, it's going to be one of them races this evening. I love Autopolis. Thing is, I set an initial time of 1:46.465.

Afterwards, I look at the top 10: 10th 1:45.158. There's got to be more time in my lap. Did another lap and went .2 slower. The rear is getting a bit oversteery, while accelerating out of the first hairpin.
Turn on my old friend TCS. Leave it set to default(3). Immidiately lay down a 1:45.987.

Knock knock. Anyone home? What the heck? And I ain't quitting to do a later race. :banghead:

Scratch that. Someone else left the room.

Edit: Just makes no dang s ne. May as well just had me race alone or me versus the S/S player(R.S01) that finished second and the B/S player(RSR), that finished first.

It's not really to do with that to be honest, it's more the fact if you're the lead car you are the sacrifice (Adam tweeted this with the Aston a few weeks ago), you're starting last or near last (Depending if someone gets a penalty on their lap) so then what's the point in racing. So everyone just tries to grab a slipstream so they are effectively further up the grid. It's even worse in EMEA because top split is closer qualifying time wise than any other region so that slipstream could mean p5 rather than p15 for some people. The update can't come soon enough to be honest, while it's hilarious at the time, imagine if this season still counted, it is pure carnage. I can't wait to bring it back to how good an individuals lap is rather than how much slipstream can I get.

Did your SR drop below 99 on the dot? I've found it throws me in with the scrubs sometimes if its anything less than 99.
I really don't check the numbers. I show up to race. See how I do versus other players and hopefully, have a good enough race to watch later. ;)

A bit of sarcasm in my post. Trust, I do get it's a bit different in other regions.

Some of my view, is due to being spoiled by having a small group of players I normally see. For sure EMEA is a competitive region. I'm happy to observe from afar. ;)

Haha sorry I didn't realise it was a bit of sarcasm to :O:O:O:O

Regarding DR yoyo "win farmers", I really wonder what could be done... Also, how many people do that in percentage. What do you guys think?
Maybe after 2 DR resets, one month ban from SR S or something? Because the current reset is actually an incentive to them, not a punishment.
Or we match them all together and broadcast it, Hunger Games style.

First race yesterday, A/S lobby, absolute carnage. Qualified 3rd, punted to 11th, back up to 8th, punted to last, finished 6th. I kept my cool but was shocked to see my SR went from 99 to 78. Hopefully penalty system changes will also help with those unfair SR-.
Second race, A/A lobby with a lot of B/A drivers. Slower but much, much cleaner. Most people back to SR S at the end. Qualified 2nd finished 1st.
SR +6 in qualifying, +13 in the race, I believe only SR+ sectors.

I love the game but in the end none of those races where very enjoyable. A shame because I loved this track - "Mégane one make" combo.
Anyway, I'll let you guess which race is which in the pictures below :D.

PS: no disconnect for me last night in EMEA. I try to join the races early, maybe it helps.

I’m always a bit disappointed when there’s no tyre choice (or requirement!) in a longer race (like the current Autopolis).

tyre strategy adds a whole extra level for me, pit early & see if it was the right call, go long & see how it turns out, or do a 2 stop to get more fast laps on softs...

otherwise... just pit halfway through for the same tyres again?

Joined @SmokeyMR2 for the 17:00 yesterday, where my McLaren was the brave challenger in what was effectively a one-make Megane Trophy lobby. Up until that afternoon, I had been practicing with the M4 and Evo X, but found the 650S to be the sweetest deal after sampling it for a solitary test lobby (cheers @breeminator! :)). M4 was still fastest for me in FP, but the Mac wasn't too far behind (two consecutive 2:02.6s against a 2:02.384).

My main aim following my experiences in Saturday's round was to try and see whether I could be competitive in something which wasn't the meta for Gr.4. In some ways, it worked out fine.

Enjoyed a smooth, but lonely qualifying run, setting a 2:03.868 early into the session. One of my best flying laps in lobby conditions, though unsurprisingly only good enough for 12th given the circumstances. Only 1.2 seconds off the pole-sitting Megane, so in hindsight not a bad run at all.

A genuinely heart-pounding race followed, which initially started well as I quickly caught up with a line of cars fighting for 7th. Got locked into a mini-battle for 10th-11th in the process, trading places and surviving a brief scare on Lap 4 when I get forced onto the grass on the run to Turn 5. Despite not having the best aero, the 650S handled beautifully and had no problem keeping up with the Meganes through slipstreaming and the half-shifting technique breeminator told me about. Seeing a group of five Meganes up ahead on Lap 5 gave me legitimate hope of breaking into the top 10, though the task of sticking with them while looking my tyres, keeping it clean and not losing too many positions was very wearying.

Pitted from Softs to Mediums on Lap 6, which brought me back down to 13th after a brief period running in 5th. Got involved in another group fighting for top 10 scraps (including Smokey who after climbing to 2nd forgot to change tyres during his stop), but my race effectively ended when I was forced wide at the final hairpin on Lap 8. No contact - just touched the grass and lost it on my own. Did recover to fight another Megane at the tail end, but felt drained and defeated by the time I crossed the line in 17th (second-to-last of the 18 starters).

Gran Turismo™SPORT_20200331173917.png

Had intended to do more than one slot, but got a headache shortly after this attempt and eventually decided it wasn't worth pursuing more than 92 points this time. No problems with the McLaren though - it felt strong throughout and had plenty of moments where it both survived and fought back against the Meganes. Yet, with so many others choosing the Megane over practically everything else, I couldn't help but keep wondering whether Nations should focus more on one-make races in keeping with recent World Tour events...

Short answer:
You ended up in this room as your SR wasn't high enough.

Long answer:
Matchmaking sorts by SR first, then by DR.

My understanding is that the top SR split is for drivers with an SR score of 90-99. The next split includes drivers with an SR score of 89 or less.

The issue is that the game only says you are 'SR S', which includes all scores of 80 and above. So you can't tell which SR split you would end up in, if you didn't look at a site like KudosPrime.

In your case (looking at your K' profile), you had an SR score under 89 at the time you were matched, so that is why you ended up in this race.
