So, the 16:40 Nations came and went. Met @T_revisio and the Top 10 trio again with a slight hope of improved form over the 14:00.

Qualifying felt like a promising step forward, with three consecutive laps in the 49.8 range. Had to give up hope of going any faster so I could get out of the way of faster runners, but the .803 time at least secured a better grid slot of 16th place.

After sitting through an unusually stuttery intro and gaining two positions on the opening lap via incidents, the race quickly began to unravel. Twice I went too deep at the penultimate hairpin, which undid my progress and began a long battle with a grey, yellow and black Spaniard. Another deep dive on Lap 4 resulted in the Spaniard pitching me into a spin as he tried to pass on the inside; frustrating, I know, yet we keep going and eventually catch up to him while simultaneously trying to fend off a MYTEAM Frenchman. On Lap 8, the pass for 15th is done, but sets myself up to become the tail of what becomes a four-kart scrap for scraps.

Contact between the Spaniard and another Frenchman, combined with yellow flags at the final two corners, separates the group on Lap 11-12; a mistake at Turn 5 sends me wide onto the grass and down to 18th. The rest of the race was spent fighting with the Spaniard again, which allowed the last-placed Dutchman to catch up and get involved in the fight for 16th. Things got really tense in the last few laps when all three of us kept trading places, but eventually the Dutch driver fell back after running onto the grass at Turn 5. The Spaniard kept on my exhaust right until we crossed the line; a 7-second penalty for T_revisio promoting us to 16th and 17th spots respectively.

Far from an ideal run, but considering that up until yesterday I couldn't remember the last time I put a single decent lap in the shifter kart on a pad, I don't think I've disgraced myself too much. Things did get a bit forceful at times, but it was a treat to fight hard and fight mostly fairly even with slipstream and the quality of certain front-running drivers at play. For now, I will happily take the 11-point bonus and look forward to combos where the promise of the Exhibition Seasons can (hopefully) be better fulfilled.

Any tips for driving the Mercedes? The front tyres just die of death as soon as you put them on it seems, even with BB 2

Can't speak for the Mercedes but with the Jag I kept on pushing the BB further and further back. I finally resigned to +5 and the front tires still wear faster than the back.

I was also noticing more understeer than I remember it having, so I'm guessing that has to do with the handling update. I got to +4 before I found an acceptable level for me. It can get a bit squirrely in the hard braking for the final chicane but it's manageable.

Only bothered with the manufacturers round as I don't like driving the karts at all they're far to twitchy. First go was a disaster with an ok qualifying putting me mid pack in the huracán and just spend the race making a couple of stupid mistakes and made poor use of my tyres and finished near the back somewhere. Second attempt I had an awful qualifying starting P16. So I therefore started in the hard tyre and pitted at the end of lap 1 for mediums. After a good stint in clean air I pitted again at the end of lap 7 for some tyres and to top up in fuel. I then made good progress and time up the field with others strategies playing out jumping me up the pack and in 7th with one lap to go. Last lap was spent defending but a little bit of contact at the last corner (the offending culprit didn't overtake which was very sporting) dropped me to 8th which was a decent result given the car and qualifying result moving up 8 positions in total!

Red bull ring should be a much stronger track with the group 3 car so yay!

Well, that’s it. GTS is going off my hard drive and PD can go * themselves.

Manu, quali didn’t go well due to chaos (people battling during qualifying).

Started gaining positions quickly until I was brake checked (on a straight) and got a 4 second penalty. The other guy wasn’t affected in the least.

Caught up only to get aggressively pushed off track. 2 second penalty for pushing a car off track when I was the only one going off!

And while I managed to avoid penalties for the remainder of the race, the racing was just horribly dirty.

PD has failed in so many ways and I am done with GTS and PD as a company.
Total failure of a driving sim game!

I've signed with Honda and hope, finally, to enter most of the races this time around.

Suzuka is a track I usually struggle with and I haven't driven the gr.4 much, so I treated this one as a throwaway and jumped in after just a couple of practice laps. B/S rating.

The car is very balanced, very easy to drive but clearly doesn't really excel at anything. I qualified p11 which could have been higher were it not for a 90s Williams liveried Mégane Trophy rejoining at degner 2 and ruining my faster lap.

Oh well, I decided to pop the hards on and go for the 1H/7M/6S strategy a few of you here in the thread have recommended. Pitting on lap 1 gave me lots of space to work with. My goal for the race was to catch the faster Honda, who started p5 or 6. I didn't see it happening but it's a goal, why not.

On the medium stint I was fighting a Hyundai (2 in this race, wow) with a fetching Watford FC livery. I seemed to have similar pace to this guy but the Honda was definitely hooking up better out of the hairpin and Casio chicane. I didn't have to pass him as he got into some Argy bargy with a Toyota and they both went off at degner.

After pitting for the softs I noticed a Greek flag ahead - the other Honda! So head down and try to catch him. I definitely had fresher rubber at that stage, catching up to him nicely. He too ran into trouble at Degner and I passed, but he recovered well and a multi lap, clean battle ensued for Honda driver supremacy.

I let him through at T1, lap 12, not wanting to make a dangerous defense that could see both Hondas drop back. I accepted P6 and bringing the car home when, on lap 14, he went wide at degner AGAIN and I slipped by. Not to be outdone, I then overdid spoon slightly and had to reel the car in to avoid going wide, compromising my exit and handing him P5 again, and that's the way it ended.

Super fun race, happy with my performance as I usually have a tough time staying on track around here. Props to the other guys for the clean battling. Happy I picked Honda, looking forward to the next one!

Absolute joy turned into heartbreak in my first FIA race.

Qualified in fourth place, and with the ambition to maintain a good position without getting punted, I managed to climb to second place by lap two. For the next seven laps, I was tucked right behind an M3, and although I was quicker than them, I was happy to hold position and allow us to push away from the rest of the pack. Racing for the win up front, we had a nice 5+ second gap against third place, at which point he pit a lap earlier than me. I came out of my pitstop five seconds ahead of them surprisingly, and had a nice clean drive trying not to make any mistakes to the chequered flag.

Then came my final pitstop on the last lap for hard tyres. I had built up a nice lead such that when I came out, I was sandwiched in between the same M3 and a GT86. I didn't notice this GT86 all race, but thought it to be likely they, like the M3, forgot to pit for their mandatory tyres. I was wrong. As I entered Spoon, I touched the grass on entry, drifting wide, and allowed the GT86 to take my position. To my dismay, I finished second on the timing screens. But still very happy with my second place, even though my competition was not nearly as competitive as most on here!

don't think the FIA races like me for some reason, has taken a router reboot and a PS4 restart to even get to the point where I can see the entry screen, but can't enter cos it gives me a "matching failed" error message.

funny cos everything else that's currently using my Internet is fine, including the PS4 itself, and GT Sport was fine earlier when I was practicing/making a livery. not sure what else to do other than give up :(

GTS is a total waste of time. Can’t understand why I bothered to give it a second chance. Back to Iracing it is, and the kids can happily continue to ram each other in Kaz’s ****** excuse for an esport Racing sim.

Well great start to the season PD, you had one job to make sure the disconnects didn't happen but you did even better and disconnected everyone...

the 15:20 race was ok no problems, also the 18:20 race but come 20:00 the servers went to dog doo doo!
guess I'll have to try an earlier slot next time round. admittedly didn't put in as much practice as for previous races (probably a bad idea given I've changed teams to one I've not driven much :D) but still annoying.

oh well, guess I'll just play ACC tonight instead.

Much better this time. :) Was put in a much higher lobby than the race before. This showed qualifying 16th with a time the same that got me 9th in the previous race.

Opted for a 1H/7M/6S strategy. Works out pretty well when at the back of getting rid of those Hards. It’s satisfying catching the cars in front quickly knowing they still need to make a pitstop! There was a big moment of lag in the middle of the race where I thought we were about to get disconnected. I was the only car on the track for about a lap before everyone reappeared but luckily went back to normal!
Yes, that first pit stop just opened the track for me. Let me run in clean air for qualy laps and not fighting for positions.
On the shifts, it also gave me some options for defending if it came to that, but I was on the offended with cars on the slower RH. Good stuff.

Did a Custom Race. Starting from 20th. Only got up to 5th, with the overboosted AI M6 twins finishing 21 seconds ahead. Good practice.

1st Round of Nations was a success. Started 5th and finished 2nd. The eventual race winner started 2nd, but took the lead at the start of Lap 3 and wasn't interested in giving it up. In spite of his weaving to break the slipstream, he was so much quicker than the rest of us that he just pulled us all along and allowed the Top 7 to break away from everyone else. Then it was just a matter of staying in the slipstream and not making any mistakes as the lead pack grew thinner and thinner. A couple people ran wide on the final corner and hit the wall, another gave a bit too much throttle out of the penultimate corner and spun off, and another just lost the slipstream to the lead pack after some small errors.

At the start of the final lap with only 3 of us having a shot at the win, the leader started weaving especially aggressively to break the slipstream, and when 2nd place tried to follow the leader's weaving to stay in the slipstream, they spun themselves out, putting me in 2nd. I'd been hoping they would take each other out because they'd both been very aggressive (but not necessarily "dirty") the entire race, but 1 spot gained is better than none. There was nothing I could really do to pass the leader though, so I finished 2nd, 0.2s behind him, and 6s clear of 3rd place for 195 points. Come to find out the winner had set the fastest time on the leaderboards for North America for this race even though he was kart #16 in this race!

Well my report from the first night of the 2020 Season in Nations Cup is a failed to enter race result (got into the practice session) but then game
crashed completely trying to setup the race qualifying lobby, will try for last Manufacturer's race but nil points is not how I was hoping to start out
my season for Nations Cup!

Well this season is off to a terrific stop, got "Disconnected from the network" instead of matched for a session for the 16:20 race...

What an embarrassing start of the season, p16 at Manu (is the merc gr4 kind of slow?), p15 at nations. I have to refrain myself to enter FIA if I Don t put some practice in it

I knew Suzuka would be a weak track for me and the Corvette, and I had a bad feeling about this race when almost all the cars in my Manufacturer's race were biased towards handling rather than top speed, and I was the only Corvette in the room (though that's been extremely common as of late). I got my hopes up after somehow qualifying 6th. Long story short, I was in or around the Top 5 most of the race, and had a race-long battle with a Cayman who was barely pulling away from me on the 1st stint despite them being on Softs and me on Mediums, and when we swapped compounds, he was able to hold me up for a few laps until our final stop for Hards on Lap 13. I emerged in 7th, but made a mistake in Degner 2 and allowed the 2 cars behind to catch me, which resulted in 9th place and 144 points for me. This race will probably end up being dropped from my final score, but it's an OK start to the season...
