Yeah I just had a practice race after coming to the exact same conclusion: Stratos seems faster but as someone mentioned post race it’s you win or you crash with that one! The winner was in a Stratos but many Lancia drivers binned it. And apparently the Mazda is too slow, sitting duck down the straights.

I tried the Mazda TC first, and even that thing tried to spin out when I pitched it into the corners. I don't understand why it's suddenly more oversteery than all the other times I've driven it. I don't have the Stratos, but to my surprise, I actually did have the Dino, so I took it for a drive too, and it's so hard to keep it pointed straight coming out of the corners. No gas = typical MR lift-off oversteer, some gas = infinite wheel spin as you try to get a halfway decent exit. If I decide to race tomorrow, I'll probably be one of the cowards in the Mazda TC .

I might chicken out and go for the Mazda too...just to be consistent and stay on the track. The Dino isn't what you'd call forgiving, it still requires tail out action to get the best out of it through corners, and tyre wear might be a problem. Not to mention upsetting its balance when trading paint with others.

What do y'all think between the Dino and the Miata TC?

What do y'all think between the Dino and the Miata TC?

For the Mazda TC:
Expect to get overtaken on the straight.

Expect to laugh your ass off as you pass spinning Lancias and Dinos. Particularly in the last few laps when tyre wear starts to become a consideration.

Dino is better if you are sure you can do the 12 laps without sliding off the track or spinning. If you're not confident in that, use the TC.

I got two SR downs leaving the pits after changing only tires. Went in and came out all by myself without incident. Smh

From how I see it, you can get SR downs from pitting if the game deems your pit entry was unsafe.

Seeing as the Stratos is dominating the Free Practice leaderboard in Asia for tomorrow's Nations race, I gave it a go. I didn't even get through 3 corners to know that it would be a gargantuan struggle to hold it together and keep it out of the barriers for a whole lap, let alone an entire race. The combination of mid-engine weight distribution, microscopic wheelbase and CS tyres make it a knife edge to drive...I doubt I have the mental capacity to keep it on the tarmac AND share the track with other racers.

So like the virtual baller I am, I dropped half a million on a Dino, ruined its classic lines with a gaudy livery and hit the track. Wow...this thing is a blast to throw around! Pitching it into corners and managing the weight transfer on the brakes with a hint of a drift is sublime when you get it right. The CS tyres are a challenge, but being on the edge of adhesion with a touch of countersteer in almost every corner is exhilarating. I bumped brake balance to -1 to make putting weight on the front mid-corner more manageable. So far, I'm only getting 1:53, still got some improving to do. With 15x tyre wear during the race, slinging this classic around with other racers will certainly be...interesting. I do hope to see some variety of metal on the grid on race day.

Love your team livery! Sharp.

I love these races where there is an endless choice of cars. Gonna use the Samba Bus on my first outing just for the lolz :D It's about 10 seconds a lap slower than the Lancia but I bet you there will be someone who still manages to finish behind me

The A110 was a tad too tail tippy to tote. ;)

If the car I choose has to be tuned down, maybe it shouldn't be allowed.

Going to have a go at B/S level nations. Debated running the Dino or Stratos but just stuck with the Mazda anyway. Seems to be Mazda mostly anyhow. Now to try to remember which corners are brakes and which are coast.

And half the grid gets dc'ed before qually:scared:

Top split Oceania was awesome. About half the field were using Dinos, the remaining half were evenly split between Roadsters and Stratoses (Stratii?). Surprisingly the Roadster isn't totally useless on the straights, providing you're in draft. Even more surprisingly the Stratos is better to drive after the latest physics change compared to what I remember from Laguna. With fuel load it's a lot more stable. Just put BB -5 and remember to overlap some throttle when braking to keep the rear in check. The rear tyres were holding up pretty well at the end too.

I was in a 4-way battle throughout the race with 3 completely different cars, all within 2 seconds of each other. We had lead changes every lap and sometimes even twice a lap. The Dino would pull away in the downhill corners in the first half of the lap, and my Stratos would claw that back in the uphill hairpins. The Roadster would fall back in the straights but gain in the infield. So awesome :D Dino won at the line by 0.02 secs and I didn't even feel robbed

If any of you guys are skipping this race because you think slow cars are boring, you're missing out ;)

So 10 people got disconnected at the lobby opening. They let us have all the points though. Started p6, screwed up the left at the bottom of the hill and drop to p9 or 10. So last. Fight my way back to p7 as the front 6 broke away, then I go wide into the sand and back to p9. Back up to p8, them someone in the front pack loses it so ip to p7. Really good racing but also sliding here and there. Head to the last lap and I get to the front of our group, p6, get a clear track and about 0.5 so I should be able to hold on as there is only 1 passing spot after this, we've been clean all race and I have been faster through here most of the race. Come through the last sweeper type right turn and p5 is in the sand! Yes!!!

Except I gas it a tad early, hit the sand and roll home p9.:dunce::banghead:

Oh well. It was some good racing. But because of the way the lobbies ended up I still took home 90 points. Would have been about 109 or so, will check, but oh the chance I had.
Good luck.to you all.

Ran the last slot for Nations in Oceania region, mostly B room with a couple C. Varied field, NO Statos'. Couple of Dinos, some Toyota GRMN, an S-FR, a late model MX5 road car, several TC's, an RX7. I took the TC because I like it and didn't expect to win anyway, started 16 of 17 and finished 7th. TC is VERY planted at BB+1. Checked the replay and no-one in the race had more than 20% tyre wear (front left on Toyota GRMN). Mazda TC was consistently very low wear across a range of driver skills.
At that skill level the TC was easily out braking / cornering most of the rest of the field but lacked quite a bit of straight line speed. Even the MX5 road car was fast in a drag race. The other side of the coin is that it has a big advantage through a series of corners, and even in a turn when you have some overlap.

The Lancia actually isn’t too bad in N100, but once it starts to slide, there’s no saving it lol. Might not be great in bumper car battles.
Give the Dino a test drive, I think it'll suit your style and skill set. If you can get it to turn reliably you'll lap faster in that than the TC. In race be careful to get a good run through that tight right hander before the straight, the TC can good a really goad launch through there which makes them hard to catch despite their inferior top end.

If anyone needs to practice or pick a car for tonight's FIA Nations Cup events, I've got a lobby open all day with the race settings on.

Search by track, or use Room ID 0475 4388 8765 6727 4564
Thanks for that, not that those few minutes helped me any! Might just try the Stratos for the fun of it in Slot 1. Not expecting decent points out of it anyway.

Edit: Definitely no decent points - disconnected before matchmaking screen!!!🤬:banghead:

I tried joining it looks like this ID doesn’t exist anymore. I guess you closed it?

First attempt at Nations wasn't great. Lost 4 positions on the penultimate lap, and did 11 and a half clean laps only to get tapped twice on the last lap giving me a penalty each time and a red SR. I guess the next attempt may be in a slightly easier lobby...

15th for 110 points, -3SR and -600DR :(

Got more points than me :)
Apparently you need more than 5 minutes of practice in the Dino to be quick. Don't think I ever got that 1st corner even close to correct

I went racing. First the practice, then the race.

I'll set a new one up.

That makes sense :D.
Time for me to race as well! First one in the Dino was horrible. Just lost all pace. In these conditions it’s crazy how you need to change your approach. It’s a lot about exit speed. Great to practice that, but in the meantime I’m getting terrible results!

Thanks and have a good race.

PS: I guess I’ll always have farming to calm my nerves now :D

I had a miserable time in the Stratos. I qualified 20th thanks to getting rammed off by a Ferrari Dino who was trying (and failing) to escape 19th. I made it as far as 10th before getting punted around by that same Dino ******** entering the last corner on lap 9, and from then on I was floundering around the track as the rear tyres fell off the cliff, and I only just held onto 17th.

From 16th to, er, 16th. Reached the heady heights of 13th once. Ruined an Austrian guy's race because I was going through the first corner about 30mph slower than I should have been. Best lap was a 52.777, on the last lap. A decent mix of MX-5, Stratos and Dino.

Had a charming run in with the pole sitter and eventual winner, a Spaniard who followed me out of the last corner at the start of the first flying lap and tried to run me off the side of the track on the corner exit. He said "aprendiste?" in the chat after which apparently means "you learned." Clown. Sadly he managed to win despite an apocalyptic bottle job over the last four laps which saw him only gain ~3 seconds on me putting in 1:54s. What a charmer.

Second race went much better. 11th to 5th. I think I’ll leave it there but man, such an interesting experience! It’s exaggerated but it gives us a great example of different car qualities running at the same time. Very interesting.

Now where’s my farmer hat? ‍
