Well, dive bombers aside, had some good races. Used the Corvette in GR4 and finished 4th, just a few Tenths behind 3rd...I wish people could pass without banging on your doors, guess thats too much to ask. The offender finished 8th and all they did was cost me a couple spots Dropping back once their Sciroccos tires were burned up.

....in the GR3 races I made two attempts, neither spectacular...thanks to dive bombers. Qualifying 11th in the first, battling between 6th and 10th, until someone decided my door would make a good berm from 5 or 6 car lengths back... I got shoved off into the gravel and spun, ugly stuff...and dropped to 20th and the Stewards at PD are drunk so I got the 3 second penalty for forcing a car off the road, SERIOUSLY?... Almost rage quit, but thought i‘d drive it out since All the ramming and Dive bombing should help me get some spots back? 14th.

Second go round I qualified 9th and worked my way up to 5th, earning every spot cleanly. But on lap 4 I saw my Canadian Dive Bomber Perp headed my way, attempted to yield and make him miss, but it didn’t work. Into the gravel I go, but at least no spin this time. Dropped to 11th. Worked my way back up to 8th in this one. With ZERO contact in every pass.

So, it can be done All you stinkin dive bombers. I guess if you can’t race clean And fast, your only hope is to be a dirty driver.

I still had fun at least, can’t steal all my racing joy.

YES! THE GR. 4 'VETTE IS NO LONGER WORTHLESS!! I qualified 3rd with help from the slipstream, and finished 4th after the Cayman that started 4th finally passed me between Turns 5 and 6 after staying on my bumper for about half the race. We both caught up to the Scirocco in 2nd and finished nose-to-tail with only 0.8s separating 2nd and 4th. The winner was roughly 10s up the road, and was the same winner (and polesitter) from my Nations race. I was about 5s clear of 5th place, and was the best-finishing of the 3 Corvettes in this race. Top 5 were: Jag, VW, Porsche, Chevy, Aston. 179 points narrowly makes this my 2nd-best score thus far. Got a CRB as well.

Weird how we had almost identical races (minus the lack of door-slamming in mine).

2nd Split Nations win, 6th to 1st. Jumped a few people at the start and caught the leaders while they battled. Saved the right amount of fuel and got a tow from my teammate @Pigems on the 2nd stint, which helped me maintain the gap. It’s been a good Nations season so far with 3 scores over 250.

And here’s my MFG race. P5 finish after starting P8 and battling for a lot of the race. The Gr.4 Atenza felt surprisingly good after the update, since it lost a little weight, but the low multiplier helped facilitate that quite a bit. Super fun evening of racing in both 2nd splits.

Best finish in Nations so far. This was one of those races where folks behaved and things just clicked. Felt so good, jumped in Manu and went from 11th to 15th. Should’ve quit while I was ahead.

After a lot of stinkers the last week I finally had great races in both Nations and Manufacturers. It was nice to finally be in a position to battle and pass people and not simply make positions on penalties or other people crashing.

Nations Cup
Top split room, most everyone has a Beetle, a few Ferraris, Mazda Vision-GTs and Supras, and a couple oddballs. I knew the Aston Martin wasn't a great fuel sipper, but she could pull down the straights even while shortshifting. Qualifying a disappointing 14th, but a great start and a bit of a traffic jam at the first turn complex meant I made up a lot of ground at the start so I'm already in the top 10. Was able to draft up behind some Beetles and Mazdas, passing people in Turn 1 that, quite frankly, I shouldn't have been on pace with. Got myself up to 6th place where the few ahead of me were too far away to draft, and those behind me had fallen off enough so I was just putting in laps for a while. The Nissan eventually caught me from behind but I knew he had started last so I figured he had to be chugging fuel to have caught up this much, so I let him go without a fuss and used him to help draft off of. Both of us managed to outlast several cars in front of us and stay out, then the Nissan pitted on the next lap, and I made my pit stop at Lap 10, came out behind two Ferraris. One had yet to pit and the other made a bad exit on the final corner so I flew by him, and yet another car in front of us had pitted as well so gained three positions to put me 5th. Had to defend against a Beetle behind me to the end, but I was able to pull away as I had taken a tad more fuel than I needed. Came home a neat and clean 5th for 273pts, my highest for the season so far.

Manufacturers Series
Much better qualifying, managed to get myself a tow this time so I placed 6th. I knew the Aston Martin would struggle with front end grip compared to a lot of cars in the room, but there was a Mustang in front of me so I knew my goal was to at least better him. Had a Lancer in front of me as well, and an NSX and Mazda behind me. First lap was simply following the lead train but eventually the Lancer and Mustang started to scrap, and I made attempts to try and pass but could never get enough to clear either of the two of them. The NSX behind me was also taking the opportunity to take looks on me, so it was a balance of offense and defense. I could tell the Mustang and myself were holding up all the quicker cars in this train. Eventually the lead pack got too bunched together and the 3rd place Porsche got in the grass, setting up some risky pass attempts by the Lancer and Mustang, with the Porsche off again and the Lancer picking up a harsh penalty for some contact. I did make a late move on the Lancer on the final right but again was not able to seal the deal. He overshot Turn 1 and I made another move, but never fully cleared him for Turn 2 so left him room, which allowed him back in front. Once he served his penalty I was hounding the Mustang. He took very defensive but fair lines, and I took every look I could. Eventually he took a defensive line on the double right at the end of the lap, while I abandoned chasing him for the draft and took the normal line. Managed to undercut him when he braked too late then pulled away from him a bit. The NSX that had been following me the whole race found his way through the Mustang at the same corner and was back on my bumper yet again. I knew there was no way my tires were holding up compared to his, so I knew eventually he'd get me. And sure enough, Lap 10 I missed the apex of a corner and he took the opportunity. Light contact but no issue. The recovering Lancer also squeaked by a corner later but he was carrying yet another penalty at the time, so I wasn't going to fight it. The Mustang had fallen far enough behind that he was no issue, the Lancer served his penalty and fell back again, and I knew my tires were never going to let me catch the NSX again, let alone pass him, so I settled for 4th and 248 points, my second highest score of the season.

Got out of the RCZ finally. Went in cold with only a few laps practice in the new Manu and it instantly went better. 252 Points.

Nations went well too, lost a lot in the opening 2 corners but worked back up to 2nd. Unfortunately a car that was revving all the way out caught up to me but then instantly lost pace when i let them by. They slowed me for 4 laps probably costing me the win as I was closing on leader while saving fuel up to that point. Great racing to both the TPC dudes @Pigems and @Winnie847. 243 Points.

Didn't have time to run anything else in the EMEA, so went for Nation's and Manu in NA.
Nation's was a mix, got a good start but everybody made a mass pileup in t2. Made it out ok but the tone seemed to be set and everybody was driving angry. Not something to remember for sure.

Manu, Ford Mustang gr4 is even better now. Likely to be next Nerf.
Qualified as P3, had a small slid on cold tires in t2, just enough to loose slipstream. Distance to P2 grew to about 5 sec, I had a gap to p4 of 10 sec for most of the race. Finished 4 sec after P2,11 sec before p4.

So I was on both ends of the spectrum last night....

16:00 EST Nations Cup: Dragon Trail - Seaside

I saw the Peugeot VGT was the meta but I don't like that car so I took my trusty AMG so see the Dragon. There was a mixed field for this line up. We had 3 each of the Peugeot VGT's and 911. We had 2 each of the GT-R, Beetle, new Mazda RX-Vision, Supra, and 1 each of the Ford GT, Mustang, 4C, Corvette, and R8 and me in my AMG with 11 on the door.

I qualified 3rd behind a 911 on pole and a Beetle with the 4C behind me in 4th. I guess P1 and P2 forgot about the grid start as they left before the green and by the time we cross the start/finish line, I am now P1 with the 4C in P2. We build a nice gap and battle for 7 laps respectfully swapping places without killing each other. We pit on 7 (I'm P2) and now P3 (Ford GT) and P4 (the Beetle that started P2) take over. I come out in P3 about 10 seconds behind P1 and P2 and I guess the 4C took tires with his fuel as he came P7.

I had some space and just hot lapped until P1 and P2 pit on lap 9. I take over P1 and they come out about 3 seconds behind me in P2 and P3. I end up holding on and win by over 1.5 seconds as they battled allowing them to not completely catch me.

17:20 Manufactuer Series: Autodrome Lake Maggiore GP

I arrive with 16 on the door this time in my SLS. It is another mixed grid with 4 SLS's. I qualify 11 with another right behind me in 12th. The race starts and P12 bumps me on T1, T2, T3, and T4. He tries to squeeze by on the inside of T5 (the uphill to the esses) and then switches back and takes the inside of T6 (start of the esses) off of the tarmac as I have the apex. Somehow the game deems me at fault and gives me a 4 second penalty for having right of way. So I am incensed and try to track him down to the tight right hander at T10. I aim for him and miss and go straight in to the wall and P19 with front end and engine damage.

Since I'm no quitter, I finish the race but never caught up to anyone and finish 19th (someone dropped out before start of race).

Oh well....on to the next one!

Just a few notes:

1. I think this update changed some handling because I seem to be faster (even in the dailies)
2. For those worried about wins....they are nice but you cannot expect to win them all. As you see, this was my 43rd win out of 1205 races. Just have fun!
3. Meta is not always the best for you. Drive what you like and/or are comfortable with...
4. If you are going to try exact revenge, make sure you hit your mark. If you don't, do not quit. Even if you are by yourself, you get some valuable lap experience hot lapping in race conditions....

Have fun out there!

Nations
Had a lot of fun with this combo and was happily surprised at the variety of cars in play. That's quite rare in a Nations race so was good to see. I have to give a shout out to the strategy guide that @pantherjag did. I hadn't considered the Citreon before, but was comfortable with it after little practice and it was an absolute missile off the start line.

First attempt a qualified 8th. I got my nose into P2 before the first chicane but came out of the chicane in 4th. I felt like a complete hero. Then at the right hand kink I hit the curb in exactly the right way to catapult my car into the gravel  Went on to finish 10th but knew I could do better.

2nd attempt qualifying didn't go so well so started 10th. Again get a flier off the line. Fuel save to get to the end of lap 10 and go on to finish 5th after a fun battle with a corvette. Made the decision to not cut the right kink at all on this one :)

Nations.jpg

Manufacturers
Took the very very misguided decision to stick with Alfa Romeo. I'm not going to harp on about what's been said already but suffice to say I qualified 17th, and then watched the pack get further and further away leaving me to finish last. My positive spin on this is I wanted to concentrate on Nations but am regularly distracted by Manufacturers. That is now significantly less of a problem. PD took the best handling Gr.4 car and made it so that the Atenza could probably compete with it now

You were in my Manu race last night! Yeah that T2 pileup was rough. I wasn’t in it but I was certainly delayed in “catching my flight” because of it. It caused the group to turn into a mob and lots of fighting ensued until the 3rd or 4th lap when the herd thinned out.

Congratulations on your win! Looks like you and I had very similar experiences last night. Took oddballs to the Dragon and had great results, then moved on to Maggiore and well, not so much... Had lots of fun though!

Manufacturers Series

One and done yesterday. Took first slot and came in with #18 on the door, qualified 7th and crossed the finish line with the M4 in 7th.

Many familiar names in my lobby!

I would have to say that I was impressed by how clean this race was. On T1, everyone slowed down, avoiding collisions, and going through it in single file mode.

Race was fast paced. Kept switching 6th and 5th places and caught up with a fellow BMW driver. On last lap, I came out of T4 right hander stronger than the other M4, and positioned myself on the right side of track for that long double right handers. However, I could not avoid going wide and opening the door for @CurbHog to pass us by on the uphill turn. Looking back, I should’ve just had stayed on my line, but I saw an opportunity and tried to capitalize on it, but it didn’t turn out as planned.

7th Place was very good with all things considered.

I think I'll ask @praiano63 for advice on the Fugu Z, because I think gearbox tuning aside, it feels fine to drive as it is, so I feel a bit lost since I don't think there's much to "fix."

I feel like I’m really struggling to figure out a good gear ratio for Nations Cup round 14. No matter what I set the top speed as, it feels like the car gets up to about 163 mph on the main straight before I have to start braking for turn 1. Is it because I’m leaving the power as stock for every attempt? (Now that I look at it, because BoP isn’t gonna be on for round 14, I think I could use whatever power or weight I want.)

Anyway, what’re some things I should know about gear ratios? I think you want a gear’s end to roughly correspond with the maximum speed you’re at, when in that gear, before you need to start braking. Would this mean I’d want to max out acceleration for the first two gears, though? Or would I alternatively want to see if I can meet the top speed set by say, the third (or even fourth) gear using those earlier gears? I would think it’d depend on how many gears potentially need to get “maxed out” over the course of a lap, but for me, that just means my three top speeds for the following braking areas: turn 1, the kink after the second checkpoint, and braking for the u-turn just before the penultimate checkpoint.

At any rate, I was thinking of using the third/fourth/fifth gears for those respective maximum speeds, then max out acceleration for the first two gears so that I’m quick out of those corners. Or maybe instead, I should see if the first two gears can be configured so that the third gear doesn’t have to spend as much time accelerating.
Bah! After trying to tinker with the Fugu Z, I’ve realized tuning is too hard for me - I’ll just skip those rounds. Good thing it’s just a couple of ‘em. I even tried Praiano’s tune, but I think that’s for when the car is at its stock power and weight, whereas for that round, BoP will not be applied.

EDIT: I’m hoping tuning will be better-explained in the next game, too.

This race is on June 13th - a full 20 days away, well into the next season of races; we haven't even published the article about the season this race is in yet.

No-one else is even talking about the race yet (hence your posts getting no responses), because there's four other Nations races between now and then, and as far as I can make out there isn't even a page for the race on the official site yet (there may be one, if you can guess the right numbers in the URL) - which would fill in the power/weight blanks you're whipping yourself into a frenzy about. You seem to be overly invested in this one single event, which is weeks away, to the point of obsession.

Perhaps wind it in a bit, eh?

Maybe, but I suppose I want to be ready. I think it's the only event that permits tuning that I think I could do decently with, as the F1500T-A race that permits tuning seems far too overwhelming for me. I'm worried that I won't have enough time to develop a good tune if I don't start around now.

Stick diff settings in GT suck, I usually switch any RWD car to 5/10/5. I’m not very good with suspension though, I think that lower is usually Better though.

Did nations earlier in the evening but it felt like everyone was off their trolley on lockdown juice, had an alright race in the Pug VGT.

I joined Mazda so I could drive the new Gr3, and then realised my next race was the final slot at Maggiore in the Gr4 Atenza which I am given to believe is a bit of a tyre muncher. I was swerved into during qualifying when passing a Megané driver (an oddly nostalgic experience having been away a couple of months) but rescued qualifying on the last lap to start 2nd and the marauding Megané quit before the race. I was vying for a podium but eventually went from harassing 1st to slipping back and letting go of a place per lap near the end, finishing 5th but having a very fun race. Bonus was the race ended 12:02 so I got todays daily mileage done already. I won....a Megané!!:rolleyes::p:cheers:

Race Attempted 1: Started 9th, a few laps in i get punted off track in the s curves section but stayed in control to lose just one position.Later on in the same section the car ahead of me was out of control and went wide leaving an opening so i took it and that he turn into me forcing me off track and tagging the wall I was given a 4 second penalty putting in the back of the field and seeing the drivers just being a total wreck fest and end up finishing 16th.

Race Attempted 2: I was locked in and focused hard on finally getting a good qualifying run and stared 2nd. Got passed up and stayed in 3rd for the rest of the rest with a close finish at the end. Moving the brake balance to the rear by 2 helped with the front tire wear making the turn in feel the same as it did at the start of the race. If I could get more chances for consistent good qualifying runs I would be happy.

One and done last night for manufacturers. The M4 felt really strong around Maggiore so I had a good feeling going in. During qualifying I missed out on the slipstream so ended up starting P10. After some really well fought battles throughout I managed to finish in P5 and took home 184 points. Good enough to put me within range of a possible S rank for the stage (do they do that still between stages?) if I do well at Interlagos.

upload_2020-5-24_11-14-1.png

The last lap showcased a really good four-way battle between myself, a Porsche (kartracerx007), a Mitsubishi (MUR-TEL), and another M4. On the final corner I went for a daring move to undercut past the Porsche and Mitsubishi and secure 5th place. Admittedly it was a bit more aggressive than I planned with some door banging involved, and I'd probably be pulled into the race director's office in real life, but everyone was cordial and happy about the solid racing afterwards.

As predicted, I'm now the #1 Chevy driver in North America, but while the previous #1 vacated the brand, there are now at least 3 other MUCH faster drivers who've now signed, including the top scorer for Chevy in the last exhibition season who just scored over 300 pts at Maggiore, so I'd give it another race (2 at most) before I'm once again not the top Chevy driver.

I've never done a Gr. 1 race in either the Daily Races nor the FIA races, how do those fare? Does it turn into a mess due to high-powered and high-downforce cars? I'm thinking of sitting this Nations round out because unless I'm wrong, I don't trust others with a Gr. 1 car nor do I fully trust myself with a Gr. 1 car.

Interlagos will be interesting. The RX-V is smooth. Turns so tight under acceleration. After DTS, I know it's good on fuel. Started a Custom Race for a fewjfew laps, just to try the settings. After 4 laps, fuel was 13.6 laps left. Will probably be different during the actual race, but I'll see if I can save some more with a constant lap times.

I find Gr1 cars the most enjoyable to race with, cleanest racing too. Iam thinking back at the La Sarthe daily race a couple months ago. Just practice with the ones you have and it will be fun. Iam going to be practising with the old Group C cars, I just love driving them and don't care If it means I place lower.

I did the second Manufacturers race yesterday in a Scirrocco. I was running 6th or so and got sandwiched going into the essess. I couldn't hold it and both of the other racers near me got penalized for it. Whoops. Then I got an angry message from someone for it, so I just decided to log off. I'll try again next week though because it was fun all around.

If it's an accident just say "I'm sorry" then you have done your part. It happens to us all. As long as we apologize and doesn't capitalize on it, it's all racing.
