But seriously: HOW do you lose DR when you are door #18 and this is the finishing order?! It was the only race I did between the two latest DR scores... ?! Every driver was A or S DR at the beginning of the race.

You were 12th. That means 11 cars beat you and took DR from you - and one of them was a DR rank below you, so you lost a LOT to them - while you only beat eight cars and took DR from them. Your door number isn't particularly relevant to whether you gain or lose DR.

I understand the formula but this one caught me off guard. I also beat guys who had higher DR than me (and the listed B there is a glitch in the site: he’s at almost 40k). The lobby seemed to range from just under 40k to 32k, with me at just over 34k and 18th. It’s a weird one and doesn’t seem to pass the smell test of the formula. I suppose it could be validated but it’s the oddest result I’ve ever had. Do you get a hit if you miss the 60 sec cutoff behind the leader? I didn’t think so.

It really does. You finished behind more cars than you finished ahead of, which is pretty much a slam dunk of losing DR. 141pt for two positions below halfway seems pretty mild too.

It's a topic that interests people, so I'll share: I made a small spreadsheet to estimate the DR swing, and yeah, it does line up. I guess in my head, knowing that A) I was well under the mean in this lobby (I was 2k under the mean, and based on the lobby matching screen I was pretty sure this was the case.. seeing two "S" drivers and no one under the A line), B) at least one or two of the top guys had rage quit early, and that I beat both the two guys ranked behind me, I was hoping for a little positive DR, kind of expected it, but I should not have.

I used the [80 +/- (DR diff / 500)] formula that I've seen posted here elsewhere. Note: the 'after' DR and 'change' includes some add'l races for players who repeated the race since the first time slot, or ran Dailies. It's reference only.

Anyway, it was a fun race and I'm tempted to run it again in the Toyota to see if the better hybrid system and pace allow me to finish better. I didn't put a wheel wrong in the first race, and steered clear of any rough stuff, but I don't know if I can count on that again. Saw some things out there! I didn't contest if someone came up on me from more than 5 sec back... there was no point. But it only happened once and then the guy binned it on his own on the next lap, so I finished ahead of him anyway. But there isn't much point in defending positions on that track with those cars and with the various strategies... the risk was too much for getting sent off track, even if not on purpose.

I also came across this, it's pretty accurate in this case, and a nice estimate for targeted finish:

1. Formula for FIA Points calculation:

Points for race winner = (Average DR x Number of Drivers)/479.2

(the 479.2 was rounded to 1 decimal place, but still calculates within 1 point)


2. Target Finishing Position (FIA races only)

As we can see the points available in FIA races, the average DR can be calculated.

Since we also know the equation for the DR calculation, it's possible to quickly find the target finishing position.

I've made a spreadsheet in which you fill in the yellow boxes and it calculates the position required to maintain DR and the DR gains/losses for every finishing position.

(The spreadsheet only work with 20 driver lobbies at the moment but I plan to fix this at some point)

Went into the third Nations slot with just a couple of laps practice and paid the price for it. Qualified well in 2nd but spun under dirty air lap 1 and completely lost my focus. Ended up doing a terrible race, but the pace was there.

Tried again in the fourth slot, qualifying a bit worse in P4. Started with mediums and was punted by a dirty driver in the corkscrew on lap 2, dropping me down to P9. His excuse was that "I stopped". I was close to making contact with the car ahead, what did he want me to do, take the corkscrew flat? :banghead: With a good stint on softs before switching to hards at the end, I managed to climb all the way up to P2. Until I found that same 🤬 in the final lap, and he went for a move in a nonsense place, not even turning and hitting me to the sand... Had a clear P2, but finished 5th in the end. The dirty driver of course didn't give positions back, didn't get penalties and enjoys his podium...

Was that you who spun out of the corner up the hill? Was gutted as there was already a sizable gap. You had podium pace in that 3rd slot race, as you where catching me quickly at one point early on (to be fair, I couldn't even crack a 1:11 lap that race).
 
Well tonight's 1 and only race was a waste. So far both Gr. 1 races have resulted in 0 meaningful points, when usually I can count on them to be some of my highest-scoring races. The first one at Spa was because I couldn't get in a split high enough to bag meaningful points (in spite of doing all of the slots), and this time it was because I was in a split that was TOO high. Turismo-Lester, the fastest person on the leaderboard, was in my race :nervous:, but I was holding out hope for a 6th or 7th place to at least score something. I qualified 12th after going on a pseudo-cautious lap since I literally only had 2 laps of warmup before being matched. I started on the Hards and dumped them for Mediums after Lap 1. I caught up with one of the DNA drivers (forgot who) who ran Hards for several additional laps and was making mistakes constantly. On Lap 4, after getting past him at Andretti, he tried to take the spot back into Turn 3 and squeezed me off the track. Everyone stacked up behind us going into the corkscrew, and someone tried to shove it up the inside of a car 2 positions behind me in the runoff to the inside of the uphill straight. That unsettled him and sent him barreling into me at the corkscrew. I saw him coming but it was too late for me to delay my turn-in and around I went. By the time I cleaned my tires and got my rhythm back I was 20th.

In the end I crossed the line 14th, which became 13th after someone further up front got a tire penalty. The result was worth 127 points, so basically 0. Checking the lap times, I could've been fighting for 6th or 7th place...

Bring on the F1500T...hopefully that round doesn't disappoint...
 
I had taken a week off, both for ACC and to just destress a bit. Had about 10 minutes of practice with the Toyota, never really got a flow until being thrown into a 260pts room. Found a good qualifying lap for 11th without a tow but left plenty on the table. Knew from the start that I wanted to just try a 1-stop strategy despite having zero practice on the Mediums or Hards. Started okay, had no rhythm at the start and 11th is a horrible place to start since you're mid-corner, but I was in a land on my own. Ran 16 laps of consistent 1:11s/1:12s on the Mediums while making a bit of fuel conservation, then went to the Hards. Actually set my fastest lap of the race on the Hards as I added half a lap of fuel to allow me to go more flat out, they felt great when on a low fuel load. On the road I was 6th, aided by many taking extra stops or falling off the road somewhere, but the "winner" didn't take the required tires so I got 5th, 219pts. Nothing to help me in the championship but a nice calm, clean race to return with.
 
Nations Cup started out great getting pole, and went down hill from there. For the life of me I can't figure out what happen off the start. Felt like my fuel map was set wrong cause 2nd place moved on me instantly. All I can think of is with the jets overhead I couldn't hear the shift points and I short shifted 1st gear. And then from there I couldn't believe how poor the tires were even though they were softs. There's just no way of replicating how poor tires are in race conditions, I guess that's why they flash the tire wear for both race and practice.

Lucked out and clawed back to 5th after getting taken out 5 times. Took one guy out and waited 10 seconds for them to retake. SR from 63 to 99 instantly.

Yep :( Totally lost my concentration after that and kept making mistakes. Luckily next slot I drove a good race, would have finished on the podium if I wasn't punted twice. My fastest race lap was 1:11.0, while fuel saving, so I guess pace was relatively good (for a low A-rank lobby at least).
 
Im thinking, whoever blinks first, will lose. My FP time is only 1s slower than P1 and .8 slower than P10.

I'm using an M4 and one is sitting at P5. We'll see how race pace is.

Can't stand players that come out of the pits, see someone on a hit lap, and then slow up. This dude in an SLS balks me before the esses and then decides to ghost on the run to the final corner. As I'm going thru him, unghosts! I punt him and ruin my lap!

A Slophy is in a run, a different SLS behind it is gaining, but throws it into the inside on T2. Messes up the Slophy! They slow down and I get stuck behind them. Had to abort about 4 laps because of this type of nonsense.

Before the race, someone complains and the SLS that balked me leaves the room!

Probably. Started 11th. Moved up a spot. I'm behind a WRX that's cruising(maybe on RMs). I think it was Legend. I'm fine to just wait for a pass. This yellow SLS just moves me out of he way at the final turn. Tried to do the same to Legend. I caught up to it and barged my way past the inside of the SLS.

A 458 wants to go 3-wide halfway from the start/finish line. I was moving over to say, just wait til after T1. So, I tap the brakes because of that numpty. Let it go by. It goes into T1, slows up the train and I had enough. That was Lap 5. I pit and ran at the back.

Shame. It's a nice layout. Just go round and round. Pick a tyre. RS are good for maybe 8-10 laps on the M4, but I pit twice, adding 100% fuel at the first stop. Finished 15/17.

I'm dragging the Jag around there for this one so will have to see how long I can go before I melt the tires. Should actually be ok on gas in that thing, but expecting chaos. I seem to struggle on the first and last turns there so if I can finish mid pack there it would probably be an ok run

Edit: just had a look at season 3. Nations has some wild combos. Not too excited about Spa in the wet for Manu.

Well, you can’t say that Nations Stage 3 isn’t interesting. Chevy vs Porsche, a fair number of one make races, N800 at Route X and Gr.B at Tsukuba.

As for today’s race, I’ll be hoping for people to either be forced into the pits for fuel/tyres or confuse the race for Daily Race B and proceed to go off at Turn 2. The Alfa can certainly do a no stop on Softs, but I had to set BB to -5 to save the left rear tyre and set fuel map to 2 for at least 17 laps.
