This combo is tougher than I thought. The Viper is a lot harder to drive than I remembered when I used it as Manu earlier in the year. The high tyre deg also means the car balance changes every lap so it's hard to be consistent. Sometimes you get entry understeer, sometimes oversteer. I was switching BB all the way from -1 to +2. High and low fuel also impacts handling quite a lot. Whew!

The key to the race is staying away from the pack. So if you start out front, you want a long first stint. If you start near the back, you want to get rid of the Hards and Mediums quickly, and get on the Softs in clean air (e.g. 1H/1M/5S/5S). Makozi won with a 5M/1H/6S strat in my room. I started last and managed to climb to 15th with 1H/5M/6M. I was conflicted on the last stop whether to use softs, but I figured I was lacking pace anyway so went with the more consistent tyre and just let the slipstream pull me along with the pack. Every lap I was in traffic, it was insane. The short stints, long pitstops and people keep getting penalties on top of Eau Rouge/Raidillon means the whole pack just stays together for the whole race (except for the top 4 who managed to break away). Definitely one of the most hectic races I've been in

Skipping Nations. My Mazda contract doesn't allow me to drive Dodge cars. :sly:

I'm considering skipping it as well. With the practice laps I've done so far, I can't seem to get the Viper up Eau Rouge and Raidillon without a track penalty. I have time today to practice but I'm not all that confident.

Just finished the nations cup race. Started with 5th and finished at the top lol

I was thinking the top 4 guys must use soft tyres to try to pull away, but fighting with them will wear my tyres quickly and therefore i started with the medium tyres first to wait and see. As i expected, those guys fought with each other for 5 laps and i saw the gap between 1st and i was only 4s, so i decided to pit at lap 6 and changed to hard tyres. Well, the gamble paid off and i became the 1st at the last lap. Luckily my hard tyres still in good condition and able to keep that 1s gap back to the finish line.

If you are starting in the middle then go for medium tyres will be a bit better in my opinion. It gives you time to decide which strategy can get you to the top.

Not bad for 240pts so i’m gonna play Fall Guys now lol

Starting mediums to have the option of which way to go is a wise move for this one. Multi-stop strategies are quicker but it only needs a bit of fighting, holding up or a penalty here or there to bring the one stop right into the mix

Prepare for penalties... a lot of them.

I was one of only 2 people in my race to somehow avoid a penalty but I then disconnected halfway through the race (nothing to do with GTS/PSN).

I didn't find this combination enjoyable and was off the pace, so decided against going again.

The FF-fest on Saturday looks like it may be one to skip as well.

So one hour would be about 5 miles away, right? Haha, I grew up in Centreville so I know how bad the traffic can be :). I'm in Richmond now.

Ha ha exactly! I'm down Richmond way quite a bit, my son plays a lot of soccer down there.

Hopefully back to it this evening. Missed the weekends Manu and had throttle issues with my G29 pedals. Had to break them apart and clean the pedomintarwatchamacallit... All good now but need A LOT of practice.

Brake balance for Viper gr.3 at Spa?
Somehow -2 for me in qualifying, but for the race 0 bb should be better, saving front tyres a bit.

I've been running 0 for quali and anywhere from 0 to +2 during the race, depending on the tire and fuel load I have, to help preserve the front tires.

Absolutely ****ed that. A 3 stop was coming good in the last two laps, I divebomb someone into La Source and get 3 seconds for it. Ended up 8th, 6 seconds off of 3rd. What a waste.

Nations Cup Round 4
One and done tonight. :D

Qualified in P9 with a 2:17.537. Quite a bit off of what I was capable of from free practice, but it ended up not being too much of an issue. The start of the race was chaos, probably to be expected. I got punted and barely managed to avoid hitting a group of cars in front of me where one had spun out, so in the madness I moved straight up to P5 off of La Source alone. I was going for a 6M/1H/5S strategy, so I wasn't expecting to move forward at the start.

I then moved up to P4 at Les Combes after a French driver (who also had a penalty from running wide at Eau Rouge/Raidillon) lost control and didn't make the turn.

Throughout the course of the Medium stint I gradually fell back to drivers behind me who started on Softs, but overall I had a fantastic start. When I emerged from the pits at the start of lap 7 on Hards I got stuck in traffic, so knowing I was only doing one lap meant my strategy wasn't hurt much at all.

I came out in P10 after my second pit stop for Softs, and from here it was just pushing forward. I was behind the French driver who lost control at Les Combes who had also just pitted, but he went from Hards to Mediums. I was alongside him by the end of the Kemmel straight and had the inside line at Les Combes.

I eventually worked my way up to P5 by lap 11, which became P3 when the two cars in front both pit (presumably for Hards, didn't see what they came out on).

End result P3, 150 points. I think that might be a new points record for me, and if it's not it's certainly very close. Was certainly sweating like a pig by the end, but that was a fantastic result. Also on a clean race 3-streak. (Not sure how I managed to get clean races at Tsukuba and a Spa grid start.)

I love Spa, absolutely adore it, I'm usually very quick around here and always near the front of practice lobbies. On race days though, Spa never seems to reciprocate that love!

Entered slot one alongside @Lost Sheltie and a host of names I never see on race days, a 300 point lobby and this was a step up.

Qualifying was ok from a time perspective, 2:15.7, enough for 10th as pole was taken with a 2:15.0. Was up on my second flying lap but a scruffy couple of corners threw away the quarter of a second I'd got ahead.

Start on mediums then

Got off the line fine, trying to be clean through T1 I was paying more attention to the cars than the markers and went on the outside of the car ahead - not realising that he had actually gone deep and wide himself - meaning I basically drove off the track on the outside, allowing seven cars to come past as I got my bearings then picked up a Raidillon penalty on cold, dirty mediums, lose another two places and now I'm 19th, carrying a penalty and not on the right tyres to start at the back.

Eight cars pit and get rid of their hards, while I'm now at a big disadvantage I do at least have clean air and began lapping at a good pace with a Dutchman behind nibbling away at my 5s advantage. Overtake a couple of stoppers as they pit after L4, one has the run to Les Combes, I ease out but he goes slightly deep and costs me time, then a Spaniard on fresh rubber literally forces his way past, their inability and impatience to complete clean overtakes cost me 1.5s at a time I couldn't afford to lose anything. Seeing on the minimap that I was going to come out into a big gap I pitted at the end of L6 and elected the soft tyres to try and get a quick stint in, just losing the spot to the Dutchman before regaining it as he put softs on for his final stint.

I had mainly clean air on the softs, maintaining low-mid 17s all through the stint and as such was able to stay 2s ahead of the Dutchman and jump the overly aggressive Spaniard as he pitted on L9, who emerged 1s behind me but on hard tyres. "Now, I wonder if he'll be as aggressive defending as he was attacking"... yep! The interval began to grow rapidly as he started defending from the Dutchman and there was an outside chance that I could gap these cars before my last stop, pitting from 4th. Not quite, was the answer, but something had obviously happened because I came out of the pits just ahead of the Dutchman who picked up my slipstream as we barrelled down Kemmel. A few defensive lines taken and I held onto the place across the line, finishing 7th.

A good recovery drive from 19th. From serving my penalty on L2 to the chequered flag I only lost 3s to the lead. The race pace was there to mix it at the sharp end at a higher level, so although I'm sure I would have won more points in the split below, plenty of positives from this drive.

Next time I see Spa lined up I'll smile again, hopefully Spa smiles back at me on race day

Spa's track limits can go to hell along with my PC's dying network card. That is all.

EDIT: After 5 attempts at a qualifying lap were ruined by draconian track limits only Xinnie The Pooh could be proud of, I ended up dead last on the grid. That became 16th by La Source thanks to the standing start, as two cars spun out trying to dodge a stricken opponent. After penalties were dished out, that became 14th entering Les Combes, where I managed to hang on until the end of the lap when I got swapped the hards for mediums. I exited 18th, but more importantly, in clean air. From then until my final stop (for softs) on lap 6, it was just a matter of picking off the less fortunate, and I was 12th when it came time for my final stop, helped by a French driver punting off a Pole and a Russian at Stavelot. I think I picked off 3 places after a pile-up in the Bus Stop on lap 8 involving a pack which was about a second ahead of me, and I jumped to 6th on the final lap after some drivers went to fit the hards to avoid penalties.

Moral of the story is, clean air is king.

Dont know if you'll catch this in time, but you have to go way left on the downhill entry, straight to the right, but not all the way up to the curb and then turn left about halfway up the hill. Drop it to 5th on entry, I feathered the throttle there halfway up and that was it. Kept it planted otherwise. Only penalty I got was when I was annoyed and sort of out of it on the last lap.

I didn't have chance to qualify/much practice started 18th took the softs to lap 7  and I was in 5th place. Finished the race on softs but had no chance competing with the 3 cars behind and finished in 8th.

1 stop can deffo help if the race has a bit of action.

Edit: I also botched up the pit stop and let the crew put a bit of extra fuel in :banghead:

Just had a go at the 9pm slot. Door number 14, I had a dismal qualifying session where I couldn’t get a quick lap together without exceeding track limits. I took P13 and started on the softs.

The first corner was a bit of a mess but I started on the inside and got up to 7th without getting involved in the drama. The next pack ahead were fighting a lot and I closed in on them. They had a couple of penalties between them and I took 4th position by the end of the lap. 9 positions gained in the first lap was a great start.

On to lap 2 and I’m in to the lead after eu rouge due to a penalty to the leader and an overtake. I stayed in front until midway through lap 4 when I was overtaken by the eventual winner with me finishing about 8 seconds behind. I ended up doing a 5S/5M/2H strategy and if I was to go again I’d maybe do another lap on the hards or even do a 3 stop. I was struggling with tyre wear and I lost a lot of time on the 5th laps on the softs and mediums. That’s where I lost the race essentially. I got the fastest lap by four tenths.

Almost 3000 DR gained and 44 points and I’m back in to B class. I was considering going again at 10:20pm but I’m probably not going to better that performance so I’ll stick with it.

So I finally jumped into a Nations race

No practice and managed 1lap in quali due to the dog needing to go outside for a poo...

Started 15th, and chaos everywhere but avoided everyone and managed to get to 6th after lap 1! Just by avoiding people! did 5laps on the mediums, then 6 on the softs, ending on the last lap on the Hard tyre to finish 2nd!

I struggled with the last lap on the softs so would rather do 6M/5S/1H if I were to do it again.

How is fuel consumption? What settings did you use?
