This combo is tougher than I thought. The Viper is a lot harder to drive than I remembered when I used it as Manu earlier in the year. The high tyre deg also means the car balance changes every lap so it's hard to be consistent. Sometimes you get entry understeer, sometimes oversteer. I was switching BB all the way from -1 to +2. High and low fuel also impacts handling quite a lot. Whew!
The key to the race is staying away from the pack. So if you start out front, you want a long first stint. If you start near the back, you want to get rid of the Hards and Mediums quickly, and get on the Softs in clean air (e.g. 1H/1M/5S/5S). Makozi won with a 5M/1H/6S strat in my room. I started last and managed to climb to 15th with 1H/5M/6M. I was conflicted on the last stop whether to use softs, but I figured I was lacking pace anyway so went with the more consistent tyre and just let the slipstream pull me along with the pack. Every lap I was in traffic, it was insane. The short stints, long pitstops and people keep getting penalties on top of Eau Rouge/Raidillon means the whole pack just stays together for the whole race (except for the top 4 who managed to break away). Definitely one of the most hectic races I've been in
