Nations: I saw it was a grid with false start check so, I didn't set a time and my qualifying session became similar to

Starting P20, I eased off through La Source up to Raidillion whereas others were driving into people, picking up shortcut penalties and one person hit the side of another and smashed themselves into the barrier /facepalm. Once again, I don't understand the aggressiveness and mentality of 'winning the race' turn 1. It's a long race and patience is a virtue.

By the time I hit Kemmel Straight, I was already 15th. I pit for softs lap 1, ran 5 laps before my last stint on mediums. I had several laps in clean air that helped and when behind someone on slower tyres, I simply remained patient and passed on the straight. By contrast I saw others headlight flashing and tapping bumpers. While they may have ran a slower compound, that doesn't mean they've lost rights defending their position. I was surprised with the result, 4th (177p). Although I was fortunate passing herds exiting the pits, somehow maintained pace and kept ahead.

Nation’s Cup Round 4:

Qualified 9th (door #3), AWESOME RACE until it started! Qualifying, yeah qualifying was interesting to say the least. Two (count them 2) orange arrows before the first preliminary lap was over thanks to non-observant racers using my car as a Turning Assist Barrier (TAB).

There were a few typical penalties (5 or 6) throughout the race all coming from track limits through Raidillon/Eau Rouge. There were a few driver’s errors as well.

Ran 4M/1H/3M/4S.

Highest position was 8th but 1st pit stop took me from 14th to 18th where I pretty much stayed until the finish which ended in 16th place due to 2 people getting 1 minute penalties (probably due to not using required tires).

Points tally for the race: Lost 92 DR points putting me back at 1 and gained 2 cup points for Ireland. SR started the night at 99 and ended at 86. No bad considering I probably had 6 orange arrows (including 2 during qualifying).

I almost threw in the towel and was considering racing like the few bad apples but a cooler head prevailed and I just gave them space and concentrated on finishing with as many green arrows as possible.

I enjoy the online racing (even though I have settled with DR D until GT10 comes out).

Enjoy your racing!

As someone who's been accused of headlight flashing before, I feel that I must point out that DS4 players often unintentionally flash their headlights in turns. Yes, I know I can re-map it but just accept the fact that I probably never will.

Yep, I know. The people I saw doing it during the replay were flashing along straights as well and looked intentional. Someone flashed me too but I never noticed being a chase cam user, lol.

4 rounds in and finally made my debut for the Nations series. Only had the energy for times lot, but I gave it everything and it paid off. In a fairly low ranked lobby after some chaotic daily races where I was rammed off repeatedly, and wasn't going to let that slide. But it was good to put all that behind me and qualify on pole, with only a low ranked driver in 11th trying to send me into the pit wall souring the event, at the time I was already over a second ahead of the rest - maybe they got 1st and 11th confused. But as the lights went out I drove away with it, and had time for 3 pit stops. As I crossed the line, I was over 15 seconds ahead, and set a FL of 2:18:258.

Slot 1 almost went well.

I finally got some control going up Eua Rouge and finally set a decent a lap time. I Qualy P12 and spend most of the race P8. Then I slap on the hards for the last stint and it all goes to hell.

Some guy thinks he's being clever going to my inside on the little curve in Blanchimont. Except all he does is understeer into me and send me careening. I get it under control just in time to be given a track limit penalty. I spend the last lap fuming and dropping places because I let one bad driver and my temper get the better of me. I think I ended up P16.

Deep breathes and try again. Maybe.

Wow!! What a great race!! Finished 5th and got 1000 DR points, not bad! I actually started P3, but then I saw a lot of players hadn't qualified 💡! My number plate was 19, I think it means something, right?

Anyway, I got 2 small .5 penalties for running out of the track a bit and I spun by myself in the chicane. Even this way I was happy with my result! The Viper is crazy fast!!

Here is a photo of me battling another Viper at Eau Rouge and a video when three of us were pretty close together!

I finally managed to get the score I wanted on the first attempt! I entered first slot as Car #2 in Split #2. I qualified 7th and elected to start on Mediums. I made it up to 6th at T1 after going 3 wide into T1 and somehow making out cleanly with everyone else (though the car inside me got a little loose and dropped back). I was gonna do a 3M/4S/4S/1H, but decided on Lap 3 to keep going on the Mediums and switched to 6M/4S/2H. When I saw everyone in front of me on Softs wasn't pitting on Lap 4, my strategy became 6M/5S/1H, having never done more than 4 laps on Softs in any practice race. I'd worked my way up to 3rd on Lap 11 and was closing rapidly on the front 2 who were in their own battle, and we all pitted for Hards for the last lap. I wasn't able to do anything from there and finished 3rd, less than 2.5s away from first, for 222 points. I'd picked up a 0.5s penalty for running wide over the RIGHT side curbs at Radillion, and the first 2 finishers didn't get any penalties, so I might've been able to contend for the win in 2nd split had I not gotten that penalty. Still, no need to risk that many points to go again.

Here was the gap between the Top 3 at the finish (with me in the last car in frame).

"Granadier, did your Nations race go well? Were penalties fair?"

tenor.gif

This entire race was just trying to race clean and avoid the chaos to try and get a place or two. Instead I ended up with 6.5s of total penalties and finished the race 29 SR down. The system as it stands right now is the worst I've ever seen.

Anyone who's raced with me knows I'm a clean and respectful driver. My kudosprime record shows that. The fact that such a horrific amount of penalties could be dished out is atrocious.

I think a clean race here was only worth 22 SR. You don't get much at this race so it doesn't take much to lose a lot I guess.

I might post about the dirty slot 1 North American round of the Nations Cup at Spa in which I started 11th, found myself dead last on lap 2, and finished 11th at another time.

In the meantime, there's not much to say about slot 2. All A/S lobby worth 173 points. I had door #12. I knew I had decent pace, but I never thought it was good enough to qualify in P2 after getting a decent tow on my second run. I actually held P1 for much of the session.

The race start (up front, at least) went very smoothly and the leader and I made it through La Source no problem. He was a little slow through Eau Rouge and I took the lead, basically for good, on the Kemmel Straight. :D

I ran a 5S/6M/1H strategy and other than when there was some cycling of the order, I never looked back, and won by around 2 seconds.

So my 4th FIA win, and 58th win overall. Scored a tidy 1500 DR as well.

Not sure went on behind me as I haven't watched the replay yet, but @KosmoKazi seemed a little peeved in the post race comments. :(

FIAGTC 2020-2021 Exhibition Season
Nations Cup
Race #4 - Gr3 Vipers at Spa

Was looking forward to this one, hoping for a rebound to kick start my season finally. I like the Viper, I love Spa, it was a straight fight with no fuel strategy, and I won't be able to race in the next couple few Nations/Manufacturers races for a week or so.

Even with @afc5150 showing me the way as I tried to get a tow in qualifying, I could only muster 14th starting position. Was targeting a top-10, and with the usual chaos at this track, figured it was reasonable to try for it from there. But some real stupidity at the start meant it was a Wreckfest into La Source, which I don't understand. One guy drove blindly into me on the apex from the outside lane, and another rammed me from behind. With that going on, even at full lock my car was pushed off the apex and I was a passenger until the ghosting settled down. I got 3 SR downs in the first stint without initiating any contact on anyone. So stupid.

At this point, I considered running a H/S strategy and avoiding the stop... and in hindsight, I wonder if that would have worked better. But I didn't practice much for this race, only 10-12 FP laps a few days ago, and hadn't studied the strategy impacts. I did notice that the H's were only marginally slower than M's though... I think it would have been better in my situation. Edit: I see now M’s were required as well as H’s… so I did the best I could anyway, having started on H’s. Like I said, didn’t have chance to study up.

But I ducked into the pits on a H/S/M strategy after lap one, hoping to avoid the morons. No luck, they were screwing around so much I caught them on the run up Kemmel after pitting... again: so stupid. These idiots proceeded to hold me up during the 4 laps on Softs, ruining my race for good and relegating me to back-half finish no matter what I could do the rest of the way.

Then got run off the track leading up to Blanchemont. by a guy WHO WAS PITTING THAT LAP ANYWAY. Then later got bullied by a guy who was jumping in on the 2-for-1 pass into the bus stop chicane, as one of the jokers from the beginning was passing me on fresher tires. Who gets the penalty for that contact? Me. The penalty system is so screwed up.

It's too late to post the videos now, but you all know what they look like.

The good news is that I saw my friend @afc5150 finish the job and win convincingly, which was cool Nice work, man! You were solid from the qualifying session on up through the race!

I do love how these cars drive... and at Spa, was fun.

Wow, this race combo.... 2 races in and down to 49 sr....

Got you beat.....37
IMG_0942.PNG

What a disastrous night, slot 1 #2 on the door and feeling confident enough with both track and car. Had qualy messed up by a crazy person on au rouge and the night carried on in that vain. Started P14 but made up some places after the expected T1 madness. Had a regular (not GTP) push me out wide on lap 2 and that was that, head well and truly gone and while playing catch up kissed a number of asses over the remaining 10 laps, that knocked my SR down to 63. No matter how slight the contact, that down SR arrow kept popping up tormenting my regular cleanliness.

After that I jumped into daily race A to try and claw back enough to put me in a decent lobby for slot 2. 63 SR clean race bonus to 68SR. B to A. Better than a boot in the balls so off to slot 2. WHY OH WHY OH WHY....How could I have been so stupid. I'll post the video tomorrow....

Gave it a shot twice tonight. Q is tough with only a couple laps possible. First race qualified 18th of 19, so I started on hards. Ran 3h/5m/4s. Finished 11th. Second race I wanted to qualify better. First hot lap I got a .5 cut penalty late. Tried again, thought I might get a good lap but it was blown at the first corner when the guy behind, who went wide on the last corner and I thought he pitted, dive bombed me and knocked me wide. I did a 20.x on that lap, ran one more and there was someone parked in T2, and another in T5, so that lap was shot. To top it off, I didn't get a chance to switch tires to hards, so started from the back on softs, tried to avoid the T1 pileup, and somehow, I'm not sure how, ended up with a 4 second penalty. The softs were wasted and my fastest lap came on lap 8 on mediums. I did 4s/2h/6m. Finished 12th. 91 points. Oh well, this combo isn't my best. Maybe next week.

That was a nightmare of a combo....

Slot 1 was with @Granadier and some other regulars. I'm only able to qualify 10th, and at T1, I accidentally turn into @Granadier because I thought I was clear, but there was juuuuust enough overlap for us to make contact. Not that I caused the only incident though, because up ahead, someone braked too late, and behind, @Granadier just got abused from people not braking in time.

And then coming out of La Source people are still crashing up to Radillon/Eau Rouge somehow, and even though I'm last, half the field ahead has penalties. I snake my way back up into 13th due to the sheer number of penalties being served, only to get completely wiped out into Les Combes by someone who forgot to brake, putting me back down into 2nd to last. To his credit, the guy apologized after the race (in general though because he didn't know who he wiped out) and tried to slow down for me, but that only caused another incident....

Luckily I stayed clean the rest of the race and miraculously got no track penalties, and clawed my way back up to 13th on a 6M/4S/2H strategy.

Slot 2 was with @csmirnoff and a couple of other regulars. And.... that race was just as bad. We had quite a lovely ensemble cast of characters, who I shall refer to as:
- Guy who goes for lunges and divebombs where there is no room (Divebomber)
- Absolutely Filthy Driver (AFD)
- The clumsiest driver I have ever seen at this DR level (Clumsy)
- Guy who I've raced before and can be clean, but was absolutely set off by AFD and became a rammer (Red Mist)

I qualified 9th, and into La Source, Divebomber goes up the very-inside. Without Divebomber, it would have been me on the outside and a car on my inside, but Divebomber makes it 3-wide and shoves the car on my inside wide, shoving me off the track and making contact, giving me a 4 second penalty. Now on the backfoot, I was side-by-side entering Radillon/La Source, and I backed off, but I got punted from the rear, increasing my penalty to 5 seconds. This dropped me back into last place.

Luckily, all kinds of chaos was going on ahead, including gaining a spot thanks to Divebomber wiping someone out at T11, and I'm able to catch up to a train of people stuck behind Clumsy. This person was slow enough to be holding traffic up, but fast enough to be able to defend and retake the position, and this person throughout the race just had clumsy mistakes, like accidentally punting people off from braking too late. Anyways, come Lap 3, because of the train stuck behind Clumsy and the time being lost, I knew even if I broke past I'd have to fight the other drivers, so I switched to a 3-stop strategy and threw on Softs.

I got clean air and was back up at the train of cars before my first Soft stint, and as people pitted, I made my way back up the order. Looking at the minimap, I thought I'd come out into traffic by the end of my Softs stint, and pitted for my 1 lap on Hards. Not entirely sure if this was the right choice, since I ended up in a gap with the people ahead on Softs, but it worked out. I pitted at the end of the lap and miraculously, I was in 13th on my final Softs stint, with @csmirnoff ahead of me. Little did I know what was in store...

Earlier, on Lap 5, AFD decides to wipeout Red Mist at Paul Frere, for some reason, sending them both back down the order. Red Mist comes back up through strategy, AFD comes back up due to ramming people. I end up accidentally lunging @csmirnoff into Les Combes (I actually wasn't meaning to make the pass on you, but it somehow worked lol), but Red Mist decided to ram AFD into Les Combes (on a sidenote, can I mention that these people who ram are terrible at it? Like, it just helped AFD get further ahead because they went through the run-off, if you wanted to ram properly, gravel traps exist). The pair of us get caught behind Red Mist, who's going slow and blocking aggressively, turning in on me at Bruxelles. Thankfully I don't get a penalty, and I'm able to get past Red Mist at Pouhon. Unfortunately, Red Mist spins @csmirnoff at Campus for no good reason.

I'm able to pull back up into 7th and pass Divebomber, and at the line I take 6th as AFD gets a 0.5s track limits penalty and I close in to him enough to take the position.

6th place for 162 points, and luckily in the end I only lost 2 SR. Man this combo was filthy.

So, slot 2. Not much to talk about - other than the fact that I forgot to change tires after qualy and started from P14 on softs. Oh, yeah. I also came to the realization that I hate RMs.

With my newfound realization regarding RM tires, I went on to slot 3. I got a decently slow lobby after losing some DR to a P16 and P14 finish. Still didn't manage to qualify well with a P10 but I decided to see if a 3 stopper could push me through the pack.

It worked. I ran 3M/1H/4S/4S and went around a lot of people after I started my soft stints. Seriously, the time I gained from an extra soft stint and fewer laps on the mediums made up for the extra pit. The timing of the pits also gave me a good amount of clean air to run through. Still not a huge fan of this combo but I'll take the P5 and enjoy the rest of the evening.

With the benefit of hindsight, I shouldn't have done this race...

Slot 2, with @Razgriz2118 and @Geauxgreddy. Lost 3 and a half tenths in qualifying, which left me P14, should have been at least inside the top 10.

The race was a mess, had a good start but was pinballed between two cars who hit me in T1. I made slight contact with @Razgriz2118 as I was trying to point the car in a straight line again, hope it wasn't that contact that gave you a penalty (don't think so). I made good progress on the mediums, getting up to 4th before pitting, despite a racing incident in the bus stop which cost me a few seconds. Then on my hard tyre stint, someone was in a hurry, hit me from behind in the braking zone and for some reason, the game gave ME a 3 second penalty. Great... :banghead: I still should have been able to finish well inside the top 10, but during my soft tyre stint, "Red Mist" (as @Razgriz2118 said) spun me around, dropping me to last place. Recovered to 14th at the end, frustrating as I think a top 5 was possible. To make it worse, SR down to 82.

Slot 3, drop split (80-89 SR). Qualified P3 with my banker as I caught up with very slow traffic on my best attempt. Banker was still 3 tenths quicker than the poor lap in the previous slot.

Starting with softs, took the lead into Les Combes, and led until my first stop. Race was uneventful, but fun, closely matched for the top few places, then a very big field spread. A guy starting on mediums, managed a clever undercut on me with a final 5-lap stint on softs and beat me to the win by less than 2 seconds. Finished P2. Points completely useless, but at least I'm back to 99 SR and recovered most of the DR lost in the previous race...

EDIT: Just realised my drop split P2 finishing time was 3 seconds quicker than the winner of my Slot 2 race on a close to 220 point lobby. Obviously, fighting for the win was not realistic from 14th on the grid, but shows how much time I lost in that race with all the mess... :guilty:

Last night went better than I expected. I was fully expecting to get demolished because I was not feeling on pace while practicing in Custom Race (which is especially embarrassing since I'm contracted to Dodge for Manufacturers).

Bxjejx6.jpg

Strategy: 4S-4M-4H

I qualified better than expected, beating my Time Trial time and getting a high 2:18 for 13th. Having a odd numbered grid slot and the inside line into La Source, I strapped on Softs for a 2-stop in my blue/yellow Viper.

FXoP5q1.jpg

The grid start was as messy as expected. I elected to take the extreme inside, grinding the inside wall of La Source and making up 4 positions, only to lose 1 position having to back out of Raidillon due to traffic.

jlSiQue.jpg

By the end of lap 1, I was up into 8th. However, ae86tm dived up the inside into the Bus Stop on lap 2, costing me a place and distracting me. My distraction sent me running into the sole Malaysian ahead, Kimi on Max Mugello style, though we both stay on track and retain our positions. I escape with a SR drop for that incident.

The Malaysian falls behind me on the start/finish straight into lap 3, but I carelessly leave the door open and get double dived into La Source, losing 1 place to higashi-z1000 and giving way to the Malaysian into Raidillon as an apology. Now down to 10th, I spend lap 3 getting held up by the duo and losing time. higashi botches La Source on lap 4, letting both the Malaysian and I past.
3MxQSCQ.jpg

I find the better exit out of No Name and take the inside into Pouhon to retake 8th while the Malaysian backed out. However, I had to stop for Mediums that same lap, dropping from 8th to 14th.

My Medium stint was mostly uneventful, but I pit a lap early on lap 8 as I was getting nervous about my worn Mediums. I take Hards to go to the end and drop from 8th to 13th.

I was left a good distance away from the top 10, but I would get a lucky break on lap 10. suzutaroh (whom I had a brief fight with on my Medium stint) puts 2 tyres onto the grass into Bus Stop, punts off an unfortunate ryuki430 and had to swerve to avoid hitting another driver ahead.
g2jIplp.jpg

From left to right: Me, an unlucky ryuki430 and suzutaroh

suzutaroh takes a +1 second penalty on top of his 0.5 Radillion penalty, and I sensed a chance at the top 10. However, I had to back out of Raidillon for being too close to suzutaroh, putting h_shima_wrx61 on my tail down Kemmel Straight. We both overtake suzutaroh as he served his penalty, but shima outbrakes me into Les Combes, leaving me stuck in 11th.

However, I would get another stroke of luck. hkenken gets on the throttle too early midway through Bus Stop, spinning off to the right of pit entry from 9th.
tJ1ZfV3.jpg

I take 10th from him down the start/finish straight, but he dives past me into La Source. I stay on him until Pouhon, when I made a dive inside. hkenken closes the door too late, and we bang doors, sending hkenken wide and behind me.
wZ5Iz8z.jpg

Red vs Blue

As we exited Blanchimont, hkenken goes wide, losing a place to mi0209. I take the middle line into Bus Stop to block a potential divebomb. mi0209 takes the outside, but turns into me. hkenken brakes too late and slams into mi0209, allowing me to get away and take 10th.
U2GXkDh.jpg

Moment before disaster

yYHWqtV.jpg

Aftermath

mi0209 manages to stay on track and take 11th, while hkenken spins off again. The latter tries to rejoin the track, but puts a tyre on the grass and spins out a third time. A track reset was the final nail in the coffin for him and he finished dead last in 19th.

Video of hkenken's misadventures:

I was expecting to get destroyed today, but I managed to match my 2nd best Nations points haul this season. With the benefit of hindsight, I probably could have taken the 1-stop instead as I was getting held up on my first stint, but I'm happy with my result. One and done.

I'd have to watch the replay again because I didn't note where you were relative to me at the start, but even if we did make contact that was a result of Divebomber deciding to stick their nose where it should never have been in the first place. I was wondering what happened to you since you were right behind Red Mist when I got by them, sorry they took you out :(

My Nation's yesterday was a tale of woe...

I had practiced in a few lobbies and felt on pace and confident.
First try was third slot. I qualified as 15, so got a good start where I jumped a few rows, tugged inside and got through La Source unharmed. As p5 now I had a good speed up Kemmel.
Unfortunately another driver from Spain also had a good drive, flashed his lights all the way and put his nose up besides my rear wheel.
I gave him space, but he didn't so I got run off.
Dirty tires and flaring temper is not a good combo so because of my own wrongdoings I ran off one more time.
Started to calm down and work up again and lo and behold, there is the Spaniard again.
I get a good run and follows him from Kemmel to Pouhon. Suddenly he slows and pull wide and I stupidly go for the gap. He taps me and run wide so I get a 3 second penalty....

Next time I get the same run but this time I run wide and pass him on the outside.
Results where nothing good.
PS_Messages_20200917_073401.jpg

So decided to run again.
And I was kind of hoping that the Spanish driver would be there....
pzS0V5kJV1Zf2.gif

So last slot. Qualified as p10 clean pass on the outside of La Source and passed a few ghosted players. The going into Eau Rouge a player feels we can go two through. We can't, I get pushed off hard and hit the wall by Radillion.
Coming back with damage and trying to cling to the side someone thinks he can pass the car I have on my right hand side by going through my ghost. And at that very moment I unghost, gets hit hard and spun.
So now facing backwards with damage to everything and a 3 second penalty, DFL...
Well, nothing to do but soldier on. I decide to go for a one stop as I am on medium, so 8 laps on medium, 4 on hard. Come in as p13.
Again. And exactly same points.
But at least my DR went up to where it was before...

I have to say, lately you can't trust anyone in online racing. Only when you know them...
I am having second thoughts about FIA and Daily races actually.
It seems as if no one wants to actually race..

Edit: those of you that has raced me know that I am a clean racer and carefully in races to give room and drive by the rules.
That makes it even more frustrating that races where I am making good progress can be destroyed by people with no regards for other drivers and with zero consequences for them but ruined races for me.
PD,This can't be what you want...

This was just supposed to be a mess-around race on my old account after getting a decent finish earlier in the night in a stronger lobby.

It ended up being one of the most intense races I’ve had in awhile. Had a close fight with 2 other guys in the top 3 for a bit, then thebronze came into the picture and suddenly it was a 4-way scrap for the win. I honestly didn’t know who was gonna take it until the very end. I was either giving or receiving slipstream for almost the whole race.

At one point the other guy running a 3-stopper gave me a penalty by bump-drafting while I was in the lead, which pissed me off, but he ended up getting loose and kinda got punted heading into the pits so it worked out great for me, lmao.

Also cheers to the gentleman who nearly killed me on the final turn but waited and didn’t take the position. This was a sweaty one!

My Nation's yesterday was a tale of woe...

I have to say, lately you can't trust anyone in online racing. Only when you know them...
I am having second thoughts about FIA and Daily races actually.
It seems as if no one wants to actually race..

Keep the faith mate!
Some races can be frustating and hostile, especially in dailys
But there are plenty of real racers still in the game, and everytime you encounter those and have a great experience it might just make up for the bad experiences you had.

hope you will stay!!!
