GT Sport (and a lot of their World Series/online stuff) has given this expectation.
Yes, the games evolved (just as they did when a lot of things were added that weren't in the first game).

Unfortunately parts of the community didn't, just want to keep playing the old games forever with new shiny graphics, and moan at everyone else telling them to get off their lawn and go play elsewhere.

I disagree - it didn’t evolve.

GT Sport splintered off into a new branch.

GT7 is the main tree.

I would prefer a Peugeot 405 T16, a Citroen SM, a Cupra Formentor VZ5,

What I’m trying to say is people constantly commenting on every update post about why the latest GT3 cars aren’t in GT7 is really odd when I would never expect them to be - GT Sport (and a lot of their World Series/online stuff) has given this expectation.

Why do so many people push this narrative that GT Sport somehow caused people to want more modern race cars?

Most Gran Turismo games in the series had race cars and street cars that were of current year or close to current year of their releases. It's not unreasonable for folk to desire more modern race cars or even modifiable street cars.

GT Sport was basically GT7, all the major elements we now have in GT7 were in Sport, it was merely Polyphony's attempt to highlight new elements for the series like competitive racing and the World Series. Anyone rejecting GT's interest in modern racing cars should probably consider why many modern racing series have GT sponsorships on the windscreen

That would work, for the career races at least. Add the road car versions by all means, but bring back the proper "race conversion" option. Let us add a racing fuel tank and all the aero kits and we'll make our own GT3s and GT4s that actually can compete in the races with fuel enabled.

This is what I've been wishing for. I try to do that as best as I can now, but adding an actual conversion type of option that re-classifies heavily modified street cars as a Gr. 4 or Gr. 3 (Hell even Gr.2 in some cases) race car would be killer!
The conversion could be an ultimate tuning part in the tune shop that gives the car the fuel economy and downforce that the actual Gr. Class cars have and like you said, make them actually competitive and equal in races with fuel usage enabled.

Because it’s the narrative I see?

GT5 did not have the full roster of LMP1 cars or GT1 cars and people weren’t complaining about it on social media constantly.

Albeit the world is a different place now so maybe they were and I just didn’t see it.

You can call me un-evolved or a dinosaur for not expecting Hypercars or GT3 cars in these updates all you want.

Watched the promo video, can’t say I’m particularly hyped.

I embrace all the cars and stuff but there is genuinely much more this game offers and we get this sort of stuff with an events format when it’s no fun to try different cars once you’ve done it for the 100th time etc.

Just meh

Funny that 2 cars are french, the Delta was driven by a french driver and the 3 cars colors and their positions resemble the french flag 🤭🤭
Also if you count the amount of cars it adds up to 3, if you put a mirror by the side of them it makes 6, if you add the number of the car which is 3, it makes 3 3 3 which is 9 which is somehow 666 which.....I don't know where I'm going with this tbh.

An all time winner Lancia Integrale WRC!!!
An medium Citroen BX... (that no ones wished in cars whishlists...)
A failed choice for the Peugeot 2008, at a time when they haven't yet added cars like these on the market: the Peugeot 905LM, 208 Pikes Peak or 405 T16 Dakar rally car...
No new rims no new tunning parts no the ability to sell our parts and engines...
Oh a nice selection of scapes!!!! How pretty!!!!!
Thank you Kaz
P.S. Kaz Le Mans and Nurburgring trip that you done had some purpose? Or just for fun...

The general rule is that additional content is teased before we get the update articles/video, so if it's not in Yamauchi's social media don't expect it.

I've updated the article to reflect the new details:

Odd that "SUV" is put into the 2008's name though.
Strong possibility they change it in a later update

the Peugeot 905LM, 208 Pikes Peak or 405 T16 Dakar rally car...

Lancia is cool! Can't wait to drive that!
Still no "FULL-FORCE" implementation for FANATEC DD+ wheel bases. I suspect Polyphony can't make it work or maybe doesn't want to. After reading what the iRacing guys are doing to the the INI files to fine tune FULL FORCE, it may not even be something that can work on consoles since we can't fine tune at that level. LOL

I'm in no way saying Fullforce is coming tomorrow, to be clear, but that definitely feels like something that when it does come we only find out in the patch notes on the morning of an update rather than something they advertise beforehand in the trailer/blog post.

True. But I'm willing to bet we won't be surprised tomorrow in the patch notes, but god, I hope I'm way wrong on this.

I think the thing I’ve noticed with GT7 is it’s kind of a Jack of all trades game. It has a little bit of everything. Which is awesome but leaves everybody wanting more of what they want since it never really actually fulfills each enthusiasts wants.

We’ve got a 240z, but where’s the Ford Capri or Ford Escort or Opel GT or Datsun 510? That type of thing.

I personally could care less about LMP1’s or GT3’s. I could also careless about SUVs and these quirky one offs.

GT7 is quite wide spread, they really could narrow it down a little and focus on maybe having the same amount of cars but more closely classed since we have a lot of cars that are just one offs and you can’t utilize them anywhere. Or you’re left tuning them into something they’re not so you can run them with other cars they really have nothing to do with.

They more I debate and argue and criticize the more I realize Gran Turismo is just a digital car museum, full of facts and info but it lets us drive them. I really think that’s the main focus of this game. It explains why it lacks cohesiveness, they choose cars that have significance instead of cars that are equal performers.

Thank goodness they didn't choose the electric version of the 2008. I was almost sure they would with some recent additions. The CX-30 has a viable rival now, but I'll have to force Sophy to play with me since I doubt many people would join a "Mazda CX-30 vs. Peugeot 2008" lobby room 😔

Getting Sophy on Alsace before Watkins Glen, Fuji, or even High Speed Ring is comical.
Yes, but no. I mean, it looks like they started to do somewhat "themed" updates? I thought Alsace was the most likely, as it is the best rallying track in the game imho (dirt and snow are poorer because of physics) and with the Delta being the star of the update, it just makes sense. Plus, this influx of "traffic cars" from Europe (remember the Panda is due somewhere around September), with some new Touring cars from Europe released recently (812, Vantage, the Delta itself), it could make sense to add an event for European cars similar to the Civic race in Weekly Specials or we could recreate something similar ourselves with custom race, hence Sophy makes perfect sense to be on Alsace, the track in Europe that is closer to Tokyo XPWay

From a business prospective, it makes a lot of sense. A majority of people drive SUVs, like it or not. If you want to draw in new business you have to meet the customers halfway. In a fantastical perfect world, a game like GT can aware people of great cars the way it made a lot of Americans aware of JDM cars.

Astounds me that PD thinks that the sort of people who play a racing game are the sort of people who will want to drive SUVs and Crossovers in said racing game
Doesn’t work, people always argue with the “where does it say racing simulator” on the cover of Gran Turismo. We know, it doesn’t. It says the real driving simulator, problem is it’s always said that and going back only to GT5/6 the realism wasn’t even close to real compared to other sims. It was simply a game back then. The sounds were terrible, the physics weren’t anywhere near close to other games, even games ten years older on PC.

It’s just a title. I agree with you, I don’t want to see SUVs and Crossovers, yes they’re in everyday life but for good reason, they’re a good all around vehicle for running errands and travelling etc. So if PD really wants to stay true to the real driving simulator by giving us SUVs and Crossovers, then we should be stuck in traffic going to or coming from grocery shopping.

Its strange that folks you like think this even long after additions like the Toyota Pod from GT4, The VW Schimmwagen and Kubelwagen in GT5 or the Moon Buggy in GT6. 28 years and it still shocking people that this series isn't like other racing games?

Man, I can't stop looking at the Integrale. It's been a long time since I've been looking forward to a car update.
