Was finally able to give the new update a quick test drive. The only comment of note that I have; is how incredible the detail of the Lancia’s interior is. You can REALLY tell in VR, the cars that they just ported over from GTS, and the cars that were textured specifically for GT7. It’s that big of a difference IMHO. Not to mention, the car drives like it’s on rails too!
 
I love how the Lancia retains both the road car's stitching and the window roll-up thing in the door.

I've been having a blast with a bloody suv. I miss the extreme body kit for it but the drive still is excellent. One of the better fwd cars in the game 👍

It is one of the better handling FWD's for sure. Polar opposite to the Citroen, which needs quite a bit of tinkering to get the best out of. If only it had a bit more power, but meh... It has enough to be enjoyable and reasonably competitive in the lower classes, so I'm happy with it.

I’ve adjusted the 2008 and CX-30 suspension to Gr.4 Mazda3 specs. Both cars perform great. The CX-30 sounds the part though. Awesome additions.

The BX is the car I needed. I’m only ever going to speak for me. Trying to build Super Touring sedans from Gr.4 4WD race cars was fun. Building BTCC/Super Touring cars using 4WD Mitsubishi Evolution III & IV were fun. The BX makes my enjoyment way better being FF.
It’s got the sound, set gear ratios close, looks trick with the available parts, add a slick livery to complete the immersion. At the moment, it’s in a class of one. Where everything in its era are coupes and three-door hot hatches and 4WD, the BX has the vibe of my old AE96 Toyota Corolla SECA RV, a ‘91 Mazda 323 Astina, ‘87 Mazda 626 hatch, ‘89 Rover/Sterling hatch. Right now, it’s my car of the game. Glad PD started, but they need to be adding more of this.

In my hometown borough in NYC, many of us would represent our area of The Bronx saying, “BX, Baby!”. That’s how I’m representing the Citroën. BX, Baby!…All day! ;)

I lived in NYC for years. Downtown Brooklyn (Myrtle and Flatbush). The Bronx had the best breakfast sandos, bruv. NYC represent!

I couldn't agree more about the Citroen. I wish we had more 80's FWD sedans for it to play with.

That's why I don't want gt8 anytime soon, people don't realize that releasing it soon won't be huge gap between gt7 and then same people will cry about it.

Yeah, the Lancia has a cool range of cars for people to use and drive in the game.
 
I think you're missing a critical point. GT is everything about driving; from every day stock cars to formula and everything in-between including rally. For better or for worse, this is what the franchise is about. It's a driving sim, not strictly a racing sim.
No. A game being about driving, doesn't force you to model some random car off the street. Because you can have everyday cars, that have quite a bit of performance in them.

A Golf GTI, is an everyday car, that has a sports pedegree to it, and more importantly, good enough performance to be driven around a track (which is what the game has, not an open world map like GTA).

So, for that "everyday car" category, they can get away with modeling sporty versions of road going vehicles, like GTI and R variants from VW, RS/ST from Ford, OPC from Opel, M from BMW, AMG from Mercedes, RS/S models from Audi, and so on. There's no reason to have the basic model.

Another thing that past GT games did great, that PD fully ignores now, was having lesser known brands. Saleen, Holden/HSV, FPV/Ford Australia, Tommy Kayra, Cizeta, Spiker, Autobacs, and many others. This was far more interesting than having some random SUV from Toyota.

Also, atleast for GT4, we had a decently up-to-date car list, without online updates! Nowadays, every brand is severely outdated in their line up, in all categories, road or race cars.

I agree with what you wrote, but most of the brands you specified are either dead/defunct, or with financial issues. Of course, that doesn't stop PD from maybe getting cars from those brands in the future (just look at Pontiac, Plymouth and Autobianchi, for example), but I would argue that it may be more difficult. Maybe I am wrong though, so correct me if that's the case.

For those that don't know:
  • Saleen Automotive has a lot of financial problems and are constantly asking for investors/investment, so they could (maybe) release their Saleen S1. Not sure if anything changed since I last checked them, but honestly it's a big mess, and a bit sketchy (The S1 is "Coming Soon", and after 7 years it still hasn't arrived);
  • Holden and HSV went defunct in 2021 and 2020, respectively;
  • FPV went defunct in 2014;
  • TommyKaira is still around;
  • Cizeta went defunct in 2021 (Claudio Zampolli, the founder, died that year);
  • Spyker filed for bankruptcy in 2021, not sure what happened afterwards;
  • Autobacs is still around, and it's possible that the Garaiya comes to a Gran Turismo in the future (Datamined List).
They could get new lesser known brands instead. But most of them seem to only make EVs, which the GT community absolutely adores. :lol:

I am genienely surprised Cizeta lasted THAT long, I was under the impression they went bust way earlier.

Spyker still appears to be kicking last I looked, backed by Russian Investors in 2022 (Mixed feelings about that one)

If I am not mistaken, doesn't Autobacs own Tommy Kaira or am I getting that mixed up?

I did see that Autobacs apparently had bought TommyKaira back in 2001 when they had financial troubles. But there was no article/reference that could corroborate. TommyKaira's Wikipedia page also has no mention of Autobacs whatsoever, and since there's not much info on TommyKaira in general, it's hard to say if they got bought by Autobacs.

GT has always had econoboxes. The 2008 is a modern day econobox.

These small 3-cylinder turbo engines, in the right car, are actually quite fun to push and you don't need to rev up to 4,000 rpm to have torque. Of course, in a video game it's more beneficial to have an engine with good top end, so the Pug begins to struggle past 5,000 rpm (and, thanks to its large frontal area, it's also quite lacking in the top speed department).

I like how it's a manual in the game, but wouldn't want to own it in manual. The size of that stick is a big reason why I'm so against the whole "save the manuals" thing. Doesn't look like it feels all that great to shift with. Manual boxes you find in 911s are the minority.

It's also funny how Toyota promotes itself as this "for the drivers" company with its GR cars, yet their lowest of the low (CH-R S) drives like crap thanks to the anti-driver mechanism known as the CVT and looks like an app car from the inside. Except maybe for design, there's no area the CH-R wins over the Pug in. Good for Peugeot that cars don't break down in Gran Turismo 7!
 
It was a lot easier in GT4 to create the cars. It is probably 5 times the workload per car now
 
In that case General Motors is still around as the holder of Holden/HSV trademarks and rights.
HSV is owned by Walkinshaw. There’s possibility the brand could still be represented. At least one Group A era HSV would fit nicely into GT7.

GM owning Holden doesn't forbid PD from adding Holdens to the game, the problem is that GM would probably ask PD to add something more marketable in return, like a Silverado (to compete with the existing trucks).

In a side note, I was never a fan of how GM treated Holden. The Zeta platform developed by Holden for the VE ensured the revival (and survival) of the Camaro and other projects. When it was time for GM to repay the favor to an ailing Holden, they didn't.
