We're over four years into this game. This is the fish.
^ This 100% ^ ('but'...)

I agree, it's just a miss-mash of other cars made to seem like something 'new' to make it look like PD are still putting some effort into GT7.

Whilst there is a GT1 racecar sized gap in the model lineup, and worse IMHO, nothing like any kind of 935 variant (from racecars to road cars, like DP tuning) then what's the point of adding this.

Yes, it does fill a gap in the model lineup, but as mentioned, there's way bigger gaps to fill.

'But' that's PD / GT and c'est la GTvie, we had the same with the Merc 190e DTM, how long did we have to wait for it's biggest rival, the E30 M3 (even then, it was a roadcar and not a racecar, I think). Just as bad, or even worse, the Aussie V8 supercars, we had one but not the other (can't be bothered to look it up so will just get flamed by the GTP pedantic Police) but there was the road going version of the rival, but not the race car version(?) - happy to be corrected.

Well, we got a 'new' front splitter so we should be grateful.

For the record, I don't hate the car, quite the opposite, I had a yellow slammed VW bug on chromed Porsche wheels around the same time, so this car has been a dream and lottery win must have for many many years, but it's still a miss mash and PD do what PD gonna do....

If only...OK, Moby Dick might be a bridge too far, but so successful and so many versions of the 935, if cars like the Ferrari 512 can have racecar style GT auto modifications, then why not something that resembles a 935. Oh wait, that'd be too much like common sense and fun and we can't have that in GT can we.....

GT4 had the ‘04 FPV Falcon GT and F6. Rivals to the ‘04 Commodore SS, plus the Monaro. Shoot, if these cars were in GT7 we wouldn’t need the AU XR8.

As for the 964T, I’m in the minority that have watched and still watch classic european GT racing. Utilising the cars that may appear to be duplicates, but represent various racing series more accurately with the differing models. Case in point like I mentioned the ADAC GT CUP. When I saw it in the datamine, I was hoping for it and PD delivered.

anyone notice any performance issues since the update? I've had 3 or 4 instances where I noted a pretty significant stutter in the framerate. Not a persistent stutter - just a single pretty pronounced hitch. And not in a race situation or rain or anything, just me alone on the track. It's something I've never seen before other than a couple of specific known spots (Trial Mountain for instance). Not a big deal really as it's only happened those few times but GT7 has always been buttery smooth for me and I'd hate to start having issues like that.

I completely agree with you! Since making replica liveries is by far my favorite aspect of Gran Turismo I'm glad we get different version of the same car with differing customizing options (e.g. the 964 Turbo having the RSR aero parts and rear fenders whereas the 964 Carrera RS doesn't). I love how the game allows me to pretty much recreate any race car I want as long as I have the corresponding decals! I have never seen this before in any other video game.

It really is a good looking car.
Thanks mate!

I may be biased, because it's my favorite 911, but the only thing that's really wrong with the 964 Turbo S in the game is its price. :P

Those cars don't appear to have the air vent in the rear 3/4, so they're not turbo 'S'. , but with that rear spoiler and lack of air vent, these look like they're possibly the RSR 3.8 na (?). Or maybe the rules allowed for body kits from other models, don't know (happy to be corrected).

Both the 3.6 and the 3.8 964s could've been done via GT auto and tuning options on the 964 RS. Instead there's the option of a whaletail or a duckbill (wtf?) for the 964, despite the 80s turbo having a rear wing option that is way more like the RSR rear spoiler than the whale tail or duckbill!

There's now all we need in the game to have all 4 variants better depicted, but instead we have to have a na RS looking like a turbo, or a turbo s looking like a na RSR (without the air vent)! :boggled: :indiff: :boggled:

Sorry, but PD straight up trolling....

The RS can still be used in the ADAC GT Cup as it ran in the Division I class as well.

Seriously. By removing the rear wing, we get the Cup car with those wheels. I haven’t checked to see if the spoiler raises. I really hope it doesn’t because that’d be messed up.

3.8 RSR and RS are both used in the series.

Kind of hard for PD to be trolling when many players have complained and still complain about various trims of the same car. So, if PD do give us four models with what players want, then PD are screwed. If they don’t give various models with what players want, then PD are screwed.

964 RS America came with whale tail as standard. The in-game car (Euro 964 Carrera RS with option whale tail) is plausible.

Not all 964 Turbos ran the same wing design: https://www.racingsportscars.com/suffix/archive/Porsche/964 Turbo/S LM.html

Apparently, only one works LM was built, which could've made it difficult for PD to scan its exact wing: https://rennlist.com/forums/964-turbo-forum/1117980-964-turbo-s-lm.html

The car in the game (964 Turbo S Leichtbau) has two wing options (aside from stock and wingless): the RSR wing, which is the same wing in the 934 (hence the 930 Turbo having it as an option), and a taller GT wing in the style RWB fits their 911s with (they've built one such example for Hoonigan).

The racing variants of the 964 didn't really have many aero parts aside from a front lip (available in the game as an option BTW) and the wings in the RSR and the Turbo S LM. They didn't seem to have custom side skirts. The Carrera Cup cars ran very close to the stock Carrera RS.

Road-based GT cars of the 90s didn't have many crazy aero options. In the early 90s, Porsche had just begun to develop works cars for GT racing again and had no money for large projects. A lot of things were brought over from earlier 911s. The Turbo S LM's wing itself uses the same design as past 934/5 interim cars. Now we should complain to PD as we can't turn the 930 into a 934/5 either.

At this point, certain cars in the game interior aside can stand in quite well for their one make racer versions.

Examples like the Clio V6 and the 964RS don't really need their cup car versions added separately as you can kind of racemod themselves.

This makes me hopeful that in GT8 they allow some sort of manual racemod feature where you can homologate these kinds of cars for races instead of having them remain as tuned roadcars, since there's so many racing parts on a lot of them throughout the game now. Its hard to think about any popular enthusiast car that you can't racemod yourself as people like @05XR8 constantly exemplify.

The 964 wing pedantry reminds me that cars in the game are limited to two part choices per body area (and two per body widths, except for the wing). In addition to the Unimog and the Carry having rear cab parts determined by body width, there is also cases of the Z4 having its LCI and Z4 M Coupe bumpers also dependent on body width (as well as being stuck with front splitter), the FTO's pre-facelift bumper also having a mandatory front splitter, and on subject of wings, the 964 Carrera RS not having a GT-style wing.

According to this hex dump here, each car have the following part slots, even if they are not used (I spotted one in particular for Opel Corsa GSE VGT, which do not have visual parts much like most-if-not-all VGTs:
  • CUSTOM_FRONT_END_CUSTOM1
  • CUSTOM_FRONT_END_CUSTOM2
  • CUSTOM_FRONT_END_NORMAL
  • CUSTOM_FRONT_END_WIDE_CUSTOM1
  • CUSTOM_FRONT_END_WIDE_CUSTOM2
  • CUSTOM_FRONT_END_WIDE_NORMAL
  • CUSTOM_REAR_END_CUSTOM1
  • CUSTOM_REAR_END_CUSTOM2
  • CUSTOM_REAR_END_NORMAL
  • CUSTOM_REAR_END_WIDE_CUSTOM1
  • CUSTOM_REAR_END_WIDE_CUSTOM2
  • CUSTOM_REAR_END_WIDE_NORMAL
This is just the front and rear parts, there might be something similar for side and wings too.

There's no reason for PD to stick to that limit though, it's their game and they can tweak it as they like. Same for cars only having 2 engine swap "slots", they can absolutely add more slots if they want to.

LOL

I guess it's too complicated for you to see that my point was having parts like this available on other models would make it easier for users to re-create the different versions.

The guy I was talking to is having to use a turbo s to re-create a RSR. Even though there's options in GT auto on other 911 models that, if available on the 964 RS, would depict the RSR more accurately.

But, neither we (or PD apparently) can put those bits on the appropriate car.

(and that's too much for you to comprehend, right, ok.....)

I would agree with you if GT5 didn't have only 17 race mods to play with (one of which arguably being a duplicate). However, they did introduce the Restomod Camaro as a sorta--not really--race mod of the existing one and, back to GT5, they added the car pack DLC that had what were essentially race mod variants of plenty of other cars in the game (like a proper R32 JGTC car).

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like PD has been wishy-washy with whether they want to keep Race Modifications a thing at all--they clearly have to use tuned road cars for the Power Pack DLC (for the JGTC and GT1 championships using modded Lamborghini Diablos and 911 GT1s), so it's not like they don't understand the issue of placing a "road" car in a racing series' championship.

A few more liveries I made for the Porsche. The IMSA / Daytona 24h cars are next!

They all look amazing! One question though: were they all widebody IRL? The Turbo itself was already a widebody 911 and I didn't think racecars for these specific series were widened further.

I try to avoid the widebody modification in the game as it can become an absolute mess with wheel clearance handling problems.

Unrelated, but I find it stupid that the 964 Turbo's rear wing can be removed in game. The intercooler occupies all the space under the rear wing (in truth that wing design was created on the 930 to accommodate it's intercooler and remained in that location from the factory until the 996 (which has dual intercoolers, one on each side). So you cannot remove the wing on the Turbo without removing the intercooler as well.

Unnecessary. Make your point without this kind of thing, please.
I did, in my first post on the thread when I said "common sense and fun". Since then everyone has piled in, as per usual, despite giving examples and evidence to my point.

You know GT better than anyone, you wrote the book on it, you know I'm not lying about things like there being a gap with some series (DTM 190e and only 1 V8 supercar racecar) etc. This has gone on for how many games / years (?) and in GT7 we have a 'missing' GT1 racecar.

PD aren't trolling, like with the Sierra. How long have we had to wait for the cossie, when we do get it we get the homologation version (RS500). but that has 0 aero. To get aero we have to change the car back to the standard 'look' via GT auto  :banghead:

Stand by what I said, it's just straight up trolling by PD, how can no-one from within PD not see 'missing' things like this. It's not that complicated to understand, how many people have complained about a lack of common sense over the years / games in GT.

Fair enough, got a bit of a rage on, not like he wasn't rage baiting though was it...

But yeh, I know...my bad :guilty:
