How do we know Yangwang u9 is in extreme version ? On byd twitter from 5 months ago: "YANGWANG U9 will take the track in Gran Turismo"
I've been mulling this one over the weekend, and actually... we don't.

All of the various announcements are no more specific than "U9", but the car shown in them all is the Xtreme. There's very, very few physical differences between the U9 and the Xtreme, and only one you can obviously spot with the naked eye: the wheels. They're a different design and slightly smaller (20-inch compared to 21-inch) with bigger sidewalls on the Xtreme, so it actually rides slightly higher:

The above image also shows the original U9 with the regular rear wing on standard pylons, while the U9 Xtreme - then called the Track Edition - has the larger swan-neck mounts (and is slightly further forward), but the regular U9 now also has that rear wing (as an option, I... think?) and the same splitter:

Which means even that doesn't help identify the car under the cover.

The fact that the Xtreme is the car shown in all the promos leads us to the assumption it's the Xtreme but I guess ultimately we don't know for sure. Unless someone who knows much more about Chinese-market Chinese-brand cars than I do (which wouldn't be so hard) can weigh in.

As a fun note, with "only" 1,270hp, the U9 also hits 243mph (limited to 192mph on the road) and did a 7:17.9 at the Nordschleife, so not slow...

Weight doesn't really affect braking distances all that much as while it takes more braking force to stop it also increases mechanical grip, it's mostly up to the tyres fitted and if the brakes are powerful enough to make most of the grip available.
This. I drive HGVs and its infuriating the way the public justify a lorry doing a stupid and dangerous swerve on dashcam clips because they think modern stuff behaves like an overloaded 1970s Peterbilt on bald tyres with leaking air tanks.

Really this conversation is starting up again, the gt3s (and gr4) have road car counter parts and people can connect to those more than the hypercars and lmdhs, plus our crop of gt3s need updating have since gt sport(less so now than before) and those seem to be the only cars that pd are willing to update since our only hypercar is the first version of the gr010. As for the post you see theyre probably just people getting the cars they wanted like the 296 gt3, 911 gt3 and the Elantra tcr now pivoting to the next car they like so it just seems like it's more people when it's just the same amount.

Because the people that want them like to play Gran Turismo and the part of the game pd pushes uses gt3s 99% of the time and correct me if I'm wrong but pmr and rennsport and even acc(unless you're on PC using templates) don't have a complex livery editor correct so that also adds individuality aspect into it so you can be you and set yourself apart from everyone else that would run irl liveries of teams they support or a rammer livery
I don't connect to them at all. Their interiors basically all look the same and their power outputs are all nerfed for the BoP game.

I was briefly excited when I thought the front car image was a Corvette ZR1. I am looking forward to the Porsche/RUF but being frank, we already have a 964 that's able to be used as so many replicas, so it would have made sense (to me) to devote efforts to bringing us another car.

Try one - the excellent 964 RS. A turbo version would be most welcome. I’d be happy with another RUF, but the 964 imho is the pinnacle of pre-electronics.
You can turn the RS into a Turbo with the 959 swap and aero, but it's not really the same as having the Turbo from the factory. Also, the RS only has duck and whale tail as rear wing options, so you can't recreate the racing Turbo versions fitted with the classic GT wing. If the 964 Turbo S comes with the GT wing to set itself apart from the 964 Carrera RS, it'll be a better base for many liveries.

Having known the way BYD marketing their cars and early aggressive pricing and discounts in my country then, I have no doubt that U9 in the game will be the Xtreme model.
It would be weird to add in an older less powerful car than its indirect rival like Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, the competition of the EV market in China is very fierce as well.
In Thailand, BYD late last month released 4 new models: Seal 6 EV, ATTO 1, ATTO 2 EV and Sealion 5 DM-i which is a Plug-in Hybrid.
Most media sites covering U9 coming to Gran Turismo news last year assumed that the game would get the Xtreme model.

It's pretty disapointing it's not the RUF. We've already got three or so 964's...
As others mentioned, we have 1. But as also mentioned with the 959 swap it's possible to make several variants yourself, in the game. I've built the following:

RUF Yellowbird (needs 959 swap)
Turbo 3.6 (can easily set this to be the base Turbo, Turbo 3.6 & Turbo 3.6 S)
RS 3.8
And I think I'm missing one.

All engines for the Twingo I were 1.2.
As it's probably a Euro or Japanese market car this is scarcely relevant, but the South American market cars also had a couple of one-litre engines.

I like small cars so the Twingo is an awesome addition.
The 964 is presumably the turbo from the datamine so good addition.
The U9 will be insane to drive.

Overall a good update in my opinion.
