yes...I think you got it...
seriously, it has nothing to do with: oh when you're a game developer than you can do what you want, or: it's PD and Sony's game, they can do what they want.
Not true; they have been throwing the GT brand around for some time now, and still not releasing it is pretty darn stupid, at least that is how the majority of gamers will look at it. The thing is PD missed their window of opportunity, which was a Christmas release, and with that I mean a Christmas or two back

.
I will wait for GT5, and have no doubt that it will actually be the definitive racing game for a very long time; yet I feel that the general gaming public has long since lost their interest. Think about it, they released GT-HD. Great awesome, hungry for more. Than there was prologue and everyone was led to believe the final game wasn't far off...
A lot of you will say: They never confirmed anything and be grateful they released prologue!
I agree with that, as a GT-fan, but really, does anyone expect the general gamer to think the same way? Of course not, they've had prologue for 2 years and nothing...
So I guess I am saying that this might hurt Sony or PD in the long run; but then again, perhaps not
