What kind of sound system you guys using for your setup?
I'm using a surrond sound Dolby 5.1 Digital home entertainment system, sounds glorius! Under $500 for the system.

Slamming into a wall at 120+ in GT5 is still comparable to being hit by a turtle....
JDMKING137.1 folks that's where is it at. Anybody who can't here their cars next to other cars have some type of setting wrong with their receiver or within GT5 settings. If I switch my setting to Game it sounds amazing, however If I switch it to expower ughhhh sounds terrible. The wind sounds crazy loud cant hear anything on my car, the other cars sound like monsters. Please don't get it twisted some cars Still sound like crap, but the vacuum jokes are getting lame.
I have to agree with Jav. The sound samples on many cars are still misplaced after the update. A few notable V8 cars still sound like they have 4 or 6 cylinder engines. Gran turismo already has some pretty good v8 samples. It would be cool if these cars could get patched with something like this below:
(6.2L V8) Corvette C6 ZR-1 RM - Semi Titanium exhaust with higher volume
(7.0L V8) Corvette C6 Z06 RM - Titanium exhaust from Camaro 69
(7.0L V8) Corvette C5-R - Titanium exhaust from Camaro '69
(6.0L V8) Panoz Esperante - V8 sound from Ford Falcon v8 supercar
(5.0L V8) Mercedes CLK-LM - Titanium exhaust from Jaguar XKR Coupe '10
(5.0L V8) Mercedes Sauber C9- Titanium exhaust from Jaguar XKR Couple '10
(5.7L V8) Camaro Race Car - Semi Titanium from Camaro SS '00
The Camaro Race Car and Corvette C5-R have had the same incorrect 6 cylinder since GT1 (GT3 for the Corvette) so I'm curious if its being done on purpose? Does anyone have any insight or theory? It kinda just keeps getting overlooked
Some of the cars do sound like monsters; the RX-7 Anemiya (spelling) has and still sounds like a cammed, lobing, loping beauty. Unfortunately, this is only at idle with no or little other sound present. The moment you step on the gas that amazing RC engine sound dominates everything else. That is until today: now the wind is dominant and is comparable to being on my CBR at 150+ without a helmet. Honestly, if you were going to exaggerate an effect why choose the wind instead of the exhaust which has received criticism since launch?
The inclusion of two speakers from 5.1 to 7.1 is not going to magically create new sound and sound levels.
And I can assure you I have no settings wrong on the PS3, in game, or my receiver/decoder.
Merry Christmas to all.

Exactly my thoughts! Here's how id like to se them redistributed:
The worst part is that GT5 has some decent sound samples, but they are applied wrong.
-The sound sample From the Ford GT Race Car is the sound sample that should me used by the RM Vettes, Mercedes SLS Stealth and most other big V8s with a race exhaust.
-The Sound sample used by the RM Vettes is the sound sample that should be used by the Ferraris and 07 BMW M3 with the Racing Exhaust.
-The Ford GT Race car should use the same sound sample the Ford Falcon Race Car uses.
-The Zonda R and all V12 cars with a racing exhaust should use the sound sample from the Veyron with the race exhaust.
-The Sound sample from the Audi R8 LMS should be used for all V10 cars equiped with a Racing Exhaust.
-The GT-R TCs should use the same Sound Sample the Fairlady Concept LM uses.
I switch between a DD 5.1 Pioneer set up and Sharkoon X-Tatic DD 5.1 headphones. I'm kind of an audiophile so this "improved racing sound" update was appealing to me. I actually booted up GT5 this morning for the first time in months. But... still sounds like I am driving an RC car. I think I was hoping for something along the lines of Forza 4, DiRT 3, or Shift 2. I ended up with Mario Kart. Slamming into a wall at 120+ in GT5 is still comparable to being hit by a turtle....
Don't get me wrong it sounds better. I agree the "placement" of sounds using 5/7.1 surround have improved like others have said. It is just the sounds themselves that STILL suck.
Griffith500Good grief man, Fast and the Furious is dead. Let's move on: PGR4 is still king of engine sounds, not those saccharine, saturated, "extreme, brah" excuses for realism.
Also, I told you all so.![]()
CoolColJWind noise is pretty loud when you go fast in real life, so I think it should be louder still
Edit - seems like the downshifting, throttle blips and engine braking sound better than I remeber in the IS-F with sports exhaust
I'll be damned I have offended the fanboys. I knew I shouldn't have spoken ill of your precious game.

You are absolutely right. Wanting your in game audio to sound like this is SO "Fast and Furious".
Back to being a spectator.
Enjoy your "RM" DLC.
Depends on build quality. A Chevette or a Yugo will have more noise than a BMW 7 Series or even a Vette for that matter. They should have left it alone and/or given us the ability to adjust sounds ourselves.

Thanks for the link. NOTICEABLE change. I noticed that my zr1 with the semi racing exhaust is way throatier now. It seems this update did truly help ALL sounds.
And people are still calling it crap sound while using it with their tv speakers on the default sound settings. haha

Glad you posted...still reeling in shock from firing up my ZR1 and hearing the clean clear sound.....of a turbo 4 banger! I'm hoping its a glitch...I had just ran the Trans Cammer just to hear the motor and it was sweet, so you can imagine my surprise with the ZR..
whoa..just tried my 010 Camaro..same deal...weezy turbo 4 hole lump

is GT5 the only racing game you own? the problem lies in the original samples recorded, a huge system is only going to color that sound and trick your ears into thinking it's better, the same way Bose and Beats headphones do, listen to them on speakers with a flat response, still very boring and vacuum cleaner-esque
Do NOT use the full racing exhaust if SOUND matters to you. Use Semi-racing or less.
It depends. Just budget for trying all three, at least.
The Viper GTS, for instance, uses the 8C's full-race sound as its sports exhaust sound, whilst the '64 GTO uses it as its semi-racing sound; incidentally, it's the stock sound from the GT350.
You get used to it, trying all three and realising not one of them sounds the way you want, so you settle for the lesser of four evils; been doing it since GT2.![]()

the exhausts in gt5, for me, are not really a power adder. I only choose which exhaust i want by it's sound, not by how much power it adds to the car. I would rather have a good sound and less power, than a horrible sound and more power.
