Griffith:
I'm not gonna argue with you on merits of a good surround system, It's great and all, but overall importance isn't of such magnitude as is a believable, recognizable and therefore, exciting engine sound, which is in fact the core sound in a driving game, and should be equally(relatively) exciting, whether you play it on a stereo, headphones or a high-end surround system. That's the point, and it doesn't make sense to keep dragging that issue of having a good enough system to properly enjoy it. Cheap headphones should be "good enough", high-end surround system should be just icing on the cake, if you know what I mean.
btw. I didn't mean nothing personal with the "sound system theory", it's just one of the caned arguments that you get from the GT apologetic crowd, and it just doesn't stand, because lots of other games have proven that you can have great sound on the cheapest set of speakers/headphones.

He he, I Just want darn realistic engine sounds, WHY WHY WHY WHY. In this day and age it is Poor that there have been so many racing games with what seems like spectrum 128k (remember those) quality sound!! And it is even more POOR that a game produced by a self proclaimed perfections has such imperfect sound. Now there has been improvements right up until GT5P with some cars sounding more than acceptable but like I have said before many are lacking and the ones that are close should be better than they are.
I am confident now though that we will see a vast improvement when GT5 finally hits the shelves..After 5+ years if it is not I will probably kill my hamster!!
I can't explain it, but GT5does sound better to me on my PC's surround sound (cheap though it is) compared to the speakers on the TV, better still on my studio-monitor-style headphones. The sound settings in the options menu make a huge difference - this, I feel, is indisputable.

corrupt file...
In what sense?
Works fine for me but it's a tuned clio - those things sound like a bunch of angry wasps in real life. Try an NA V8 or a high revving V12 - something with a bit of character and/or balls.
not sure if it has been posted - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1S-uGdSJyEo
I wouldn't agree on the angry wasp thing, it's a V6 after all... QUOTE]
Well there are all kinds of V6 (as V8/V12/ etc. ) engines with all kind of different characteristics depending on bore versus stroke amongst many things.
You can design any engine deliberately focussing on torque or high power output, agreed most road cars with a V6 engine are mainly designed to produce high torque figures.
Compare the V8 engine of the Corvette with the V8 engine of the F430, there totally different, and therefor sound very different.
We'll know if PD have finally mastered realistic engine sounds when we drive distinctive sounding cars like the Ferrari F40LM.

GT5 IS-F sound extracted from the data logger video.
Both external driveby and interior. Nice use of stereo imaging, and the Doppler effect sounds good.
Sounds like a Stock IS-F V8 too me 👍
So, just thought I'd do a quick recording of the Tuned Clio V6.
Something I've noticed is the engine sound has too much mechanical whirr, as though the fan belt were 10 times the size it ought to be...
A lack of decent intake sound prevails, as usual, but the exhaust note is good at least!
This was captured by routing the optical connection from the PS3 to my soundcard. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a way to record this directly, so I looped the stereo output back as a line-in to record from.
The analogue 5.1 mix is downmixed and combined using the built-in CMSS 3D Headphones processing available on all X-Fi soundcards.
Best enjoyed with headphones, preferably large, over-ear headphones![]()
compare to the real thing at 2:50 - sounds so close!
