Well, obviously Sarrinen was being serious but it's hard not to appreciate the irony here.
But I'm afraid if you're unhappy about the lap records being reset, you better get used to it as it may yet happen again. For those who haven't been following this thread:
http://forums.eutechnyx.com/index.php/topic,1465.new.html#new over on the Eutechnyx forums, wander over and have a look. There is obviously something very amiss about the setup changes and the bizarre affects increased ride height has on straight line speed. It's something I hope Eutechnyx adjusts in a future patch and indeed, the seem to suggest that they're looking into it. If they do, obviously, it would only make sense for the leaderboards to be reset again. Otherwise, nobody will ever be able to match these times. I agree that it should never have been like this in the first place. But at least they're now taking steps to set things right, which I suppose is the lesser of two evils than just doing nothing.
I don't want to specifically blame System 3 or Eutechnyx, but it does seem like their relationship has turned somewhat toxic, and the affect it's had on SCC is lamentable. And I can only hope that Eutechnyx's new title will be improved when free of the bonds and restrictions of their current relationship.
That said, I was able to take part in some 250TR races last night in a lobby hosted by Hairy-Dave and I have yet more positive feedback about the patch. At one point there were as many as 13 people running--quite a showing.
- At no point was there any 'serious' lag issues that I was aware of. 👍
- As with the previous night, cars seem much clearer rendered with less 'shaky' and random movements across the track. Their flow and movements seem much smoother and more like real cars. 👍
- When cars brake and accelerate, it's no longer sporadic or violent (as a result of lag) and it's much easier to run closer. 👍
- It was possible to have very close, side-by-side racing, even at a track like VIR. 👍
- No incidents of cars being stuck together. 👍
- At one point I tapped Frawe from behind. It clearly looked like I tapped him but from my side there was no sound and no sense of impact. So there may still be incidents when it's hard to tell if you really touched another car or not. (It should be obvious front to back but it may not be side to side) 👎
But overall, it appeared that it was possible to have a full lobby or racers free of lag. Indeed a good thing. Although I do have to say, and this has nothing to do with the patch, it was an open lobby and therefore subjected to some of the pitfalls that open lobbies present:
- With 13 people in a lobby, it's bound to be chaotic. But at the Silverstone National race especially, some people were really a little argy-bargy. Completely chaos at corner 2 with 2/3 of the field being knocked off the track. One guy knocked me off the road 3 times and just kept going. Ridiculous.
- Even though we agreed in principle and the host made several announcements that it was to be run with stock setup, it was obvious at least two people were still running modified setups. One in particular had his rear end a meter off the ground. And somebody who should know better. Is it not obvious when you finish a race with a laptime >4 seconds faster than the 2nd placed car and you're 20-kmh faster down the straight that something is amiss?
* As a final note, I apologize if my car caused any disruption after the Mugello Sport race. I was called away unexpectedly and returned to the lobby but was away longer than I thought and I'm guessing my car took place in the following race without me and may have caused some undue problems just sitting there on the grid.
