My early christmas gift was a ps4 and project cars. Will get ps plus this week and hopefully get some on track time with some of you by the end of the week to further my progress.

Mine for myself was a Suzuki GSX-R 750. And 14 days with my daughter, who flew from Italy today.
Seeing her with Lil Dolphin today, with my family surrounding me, and with friends on my mind, I couldn't help but think how lucky I am, how I am blessed and how I wish upon everyone, friend or foe, the same feeling of extreme gratitude and joy and at least one good, tight, meaningful hug.

Honestly, what else could I hope for?

Hope all of you are having a good end of the year, hoping to get back to racing soon.

It's 2016, bought it new.
And it is surprisingly gentle on the body, the best out of the ones I tried (Hondas and Yamahas). Although I turned 40, basketball keeps me nice and supple, so the contortion isn't a problem.

Haven't taken it to the track yet, but that's part of the new year's resolutions... Maybe then my age will show.

Our series is going to get quite interesting over the next couple of seasons. With these fast SNAIL brothers coming over to the dark side us regulars are in for a shake up! Aside from the alien types like @vovik05 that just start winning right away, , we have guys like @TomMang_68, for example, a good clean fast SNAIL regular guy that humbled me the other night. We both hopped in the Audi GT3, untuned, and within a few laps he was running a couple of tenths faster than me and he just got the bloody game, (que Lobban's comments). With @vsfit, @Whitey093 and now @sand_68 all expressing interest in joining it's going to get interesting. I see busy KOQ sessions and full rooms!

Yeah I tended to do longer rides because in Tampa you have to ride at least an hour in traffic to get anywhere worth riding a sport bike.

So the 90 degree stop and go (or interstate) ride is awful on a sport bike. Did it for about 20 years, usually as my only transportation.

Yea, a sportbike is a drag in those situation's. As much as I still love a pure sportbike, and still get to ride them, my wrists (and wallet) can't handle longer rides on them anymore. You really do need to be in good shape to take one to the track as well, or any racebike for that matter. I'm whipping myself back into shape and recently sat on my GP bike, ha, I've got a piece to go yet!
I am lucky in that I get to ride quite a number of different types of bikes each year, these days the adventure bikes are my favorite, a blast on a BMW R1200GS will open your eyes if you have never ridden a bike like this before. A good rider on one of these will humble many a sportbike squid! The fact that you can blast down dirt roads hanging out the rear end is a bonus and some you can venture out onto two track and hydro lines.
But I got the biggest surprise this summer when my good buddy bought a new Suzuki VStrom650A. I know this bike has a cult following and I was interested to find out why. He left me with it for a couple of weeks, (it only had 500km's on it) and I put 750km's on it for him! What a great bike, very good power for a 650 twin, comfortable and a bike I could throw through any twisty back roads with ease. Ya, the front end is a bit vague but some suspension tuning and better tires would fix that. And the bike is cheap!
So Joe, all this to say that a bike like this would be perfect for in town traffic, touring down a long boring road or blasting through a twisty back road. I'm actually pining for a Honda CRF1000 Africa Twin right now.

All those years at a Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Sea Doo, Polaris dealer....and for some odd reason I want a BMW boxer Something like a R1100S or a R1150RT looks fun. Not many off road opportunities down here for adventure bikes.

Ridden everything under the sun...even had some time on a built Bimota SB6R...ridiculously fast at the time.

And I end up wanting a mundane BMW boxer bike for $5k

I remember when the SV650 came out...rendered the Honda NT650 Hawk all but a dinosaur. Then they put that motor in the VStrom...sold like **** but gained following after a few years for people who wanted a great bike for all purposes instead a single purpose 200mph bike.

I've riden that and it's fantastic indeed.
Couldn't take it to the dirt, but the position is absolutely perfect for the street. Great FOV and lots of power when you need it.

Oh man, how I used to dream about Bimota's, they were so exotic in the day. I even looked into trying to get a machinist apprenticeship in their shop, but they only hired local Italian's, they certainly didn't want some young Brit/Cdn! I would have learnt Italian in a heart beat!

About the only boxer I have ever disliked was the '03 to '05 (not quite sure on the years) RT's with the servo-assisted brakes. Plus your legs seemed to get trapped by the fairing! The later RT's are great bikes. The newest gen boxers, '13 and on, are absolutely great engines!

That's funny that you are wanting an older boxer right now, Lobban was just asking me the other day about an '05 R1150R that is for sale!

Yeah the 1150R is right up my alley. I'd prefer a sporty (not supersport) or sport touring bike. I want a fairing (can't stand getting beat up at 80mph on the highway).

BMW just makes a really great looking bike. I love the single sided swing arm (used to ride VFRs a lot) and the styling is just different than anything else out there. So organic.

The Boxer engine is nice and torquey and perfect for two up riding. Not going to be doing 150mph any more

There was an article written last year in car and driver that compared the STI, Golf R & Focus RS. No matter how great of s performer that RS might be, I just can't get past how awful looking the interior is (IMO and especially against the gorgeous VW). That's just a deal breaker for me. I've got to enjoy the view im going to see the most.

Stupid story when I learned this lesson the hard way.

Back in '93 the new CBR900RR was due out and I was anxiously awaiting it's arrival. I was young and just had to have the latest coolest thing. I was selling my mint stock '86 VFR 750 to get the 900. (I would kill to have that bike back now).

Anyways...the dealer I worked at said they were due in any day. They came in black/red or red/wht/blue. I wanted the red/wht/blue one really badly. Well the black one came in first. Boss said the white ones were due in a few more weeks. What an arduous decision...just to be the first in the area with one I bit the bullet and bought the black one. Great bike...groundbreaking and just fast as balls, lightweight, great handling...loved it. The next week the white one came in.

I was so bummed inside. I never could get to love my bike knowing I had the black one (just not my color). Several months later I had sold it.

Learned an expensive lesson back then

Hey Joe, ST-1300, like mine. Great highway bike that I am looking to downsize from. i am too fartin old for long trips anymore, thats why I'm looking at the Beamer. I would even go down to the 800 GX just as a city putter arounder. This is my second ST-1300, I love the bike, Aero red lined it a couple of times for me 'cause I was scared to. I did get it up to 200 once....kilometres of course, all I could think about was a raccoon running out in front of me. Seeing as I don't like pain, blood and road rash, I slowed down to my usual 19 km over the limit. Most cops in Ontario won't touch you under that and even if they do pull you over, it's to talk about the police bike the OPP did't buy to replace the coughers, (Harleys). Their loss, my gain, I got a killer deal on it new.

Look, it's even white.

ST1300 is a great bike. I'm a big V4 fan. But, like you, I would be looking for something not 630lbs

I sold my last bike, a 92 VFR, about 6yrs ago. Will probably wait til the kids are a little older and then go grab a nice used BMW.

Edit...just checked the weight of a R1200RT...500lbs. So about 130lbs less than a ST1300. That's a big difference.

Just a quick word about Lobban being too chicken **** to redline his ST1300...when I worked as a service writer at a Porsche dealer back in '05-07ish...I forget exactly...the most helpless and scared I ever felt behind the wheel was driving the new Cayenne Turbo at excessive speeds

I punched it on the interstate and in a few short seconds I was hurtling down the interstate at over 140mph. You want to talk scary...realizing you are in a 5500lbs SUV going over 90mph (much less 140mph) is pretty unsettling. I won't drive my Expedition over 85mph. All I could think about was what would happen in an emergency situation at 140mph in a SUV...not too damn much. Jerk the wheel to avoid a deer and you are rolling it several times...just way too dangerous building a SUV to go that fast. I've gone faster in and on many types of vehicles but I have never felt so helpless as when I floored that Cayenne turbo. Even with the stability and brakes on this car...you have to do some serious planning ahead when you drive a big vehicle that fast.
