Ahh, listen to your fans. Open a website with complete forums and subforums, have weekley updates from the dev team, and feed us tidbits of video now and then.

haven't read through all the post of this thread, but I want the option to re-select my car when inside an online-event. Replay of online events.
👍
Especially the replays. Having video of racers being :censored:heads would come in handy for those of us that don't have video cameras or DVD recorders. It would be good evidence if they ever accuse you of racing dirty (see: Thuggles)

Fast-forward, rewind, etc in GT-TV would be nice, if not absolutely required for real functionality. As a stop-gap, let us view the videos from the XMB, which has real video management features built in.

FF, RW, etc, for replays as well. Ability to upload directly to youtube and encode to .mp4 would be cool.

I got one. because of unfair ramming penalties, and idiots who knock you off the track, how about:

Make all cars Ghost cars for the entire duration of the race. That way, noone can cheat.

or they should have seperate races available where it is like this

yup, I hate being knocked off the track then putting my self back in only to get a short cut violation, its not fair :'(

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, GET RID OF THE FU#KIN' FLASHING CARS!!!!:banghead::banghead:

Are U listening PD??

I can't even express how irritating the penalty system is without frothing and falling to the ground uttering high pitched squeals and passing out..

I think I'll wait until the final game comes out, it just not fun and it's not racing, it's like a carnival game or something. I mean there's cars flipping through the air, zigzaging at warp 8...it's just too bizzare.

Make all cars Ghost cars for the entire duration of the race. That way, noone can cheat.

Then you just get simultaneous time trails.

Although, I just went from 1st to 8th a few races ago because some guy rammed me from behind so I got a ramming penalty. He pushed me partially into the grass so I got a shortcut penalty also.

Perhaps PD could do what they've done in the past, and just not have online capability... sure, there wouldn't be fun races against real people, but on the bright side, at least the online penalty system wouldn't matter anymore.

I think that would be called "lag"... ;)

I think that would be called "lag"...

It certainly would, and it's part of the problem of the system they have in place to accommodate the online racing format. Lag can be a problem with your own connection being slow or having problems, this why they need a dedicated server infrastructure in place instead of relying on 'hosts' to serve the game. That never works. I really hope they change it, it's a terrible way to run multi-player setups, if there is any problems with the 'host' then everyone feels it.

True, your wording just made it sound like you were saying the lag was a result of the "flashing cars"...

I suspect they have adopted the distributed host model under the Prologue banner to reduce their support overhead while they're presumably working 24/7 to finish the full game in time for...uhh...anyone know the latest ETA on GT5? :p

On the short-cut penalties:
Rather than having short-cut penalties, I think they should put big bumps in the grass so that it upsets the car enough that there is no benefit and possibly even damages the suspension (when damage comes). Wouldn't that be a more realistic way of dealing with short-cuts?

On bumping penalties:
When damage comes, the car that is behind should get more damage than the car in front. Simple. That would keep people from bumping/ramming from behind.

Brake checks. :ouch:

Brake checks. :ouch:

Those were never a big problem FM2, but that was also inpart due to the fact we had private races with racers you knew, and also when racing in an unfamiliar room you were always wise to give other plenty of room. I can't wait to see if the full GT has a comprable online.

I know it has been posted a million times, please get rid of the catch up mode! Aleast on the PRO RACES. Today i had a race at Suzuka 600pp. Going in to the third lap, i had a 4 second on them. But by the time we got though the esses, i had less than 1 second! The car was acting like it was on ice. Why penalise fast drivers that way. I know i'm not the fastest driver on GT5P, but when i get the lead i have earned it! I don't want some scrub coming from behind me, to win because the handling on my car went away!

I figure a large majority of the Pro physics being "unrealistic" is simply a case of improper feedback.
There's no sense of speed, no proper indication of how "fast" you're going.
Because of that, its really impossible to accurately judge between Pro physics and real life. I think this problem is twofold.

First, somebody was talking about tire grip in a corner - how real life sees the tires "regain" traction, and GT simply continues sliding.

How can you be so sure thats the case? There's no tire feedback through the wheel, and discerning a change like that visually is impossible - so I'm betting you're going off of tire squeal.
Mistake, methinks. The tire noises are "triggered" by wheel events, but don't seem to correspond with what the tire is actually doing, hence the lack of chirps etc.
My point is that the physics engine could be modeling the tire losing, gaining, losing and gaining traction again several times through a corner, but you could never tell. You'd hear the car lose traction with a loooong squeal, then watch your car slide continuously off-track, and never be aware of what actually happened - or how many opportunities you had to correct it.
GT doesn't seem to update car position fast enough, nothing really has the ability to vibrate your car around; the resulting "animation" has a smoothed-over, averaged feel to it. So the first part of the problem is that while drawing the next screen frame, the game doesn't poll the suspension's activity and position enough times per second.

Which comes to the second part of the problem; in calculating the suspension's physics, the game doesn't seem the poll the road itself enough times. That, or the tracks themselves aren't detailed below a certain level.
Either way, there doesn't seem to be enough "road data" being pushed through the algorithms (however accurate they may be) or if there is, its all being massively averaged out when drawn onscreen.

So my wishes are:
*Increase the frequency of physics engine position sampling/increase track detail
*increase physics engine's reaction amplitude or quality (I figure their damper modeling is kinda simplistic, and I don't see any chassis distortion either)
*increase camera's reaction to, well, everything. Give the camera mass, I dunno.
Here's Jackie Stewart at the 'Ring in an F1 car as an example
*new sound engine - tire noise and engine note seem only superficially tied to the physics engine; a small-flywheel'ed car should have an engine note that fluctuates with the bumps in the road
here's a Radical with engine note just as bumpy as the road

Obviously my examples of the uber-bumpy nurburgring are extreme, but these phenomenon aren't even present in GT5:P right now.
Watch the F2006 at Suzuka and its frustrating to see how perfectly they modeled the track, yet how uneventful it is to drive it in Prologue.

If a tiny 320x240 compressed video running at 20fps(maybe) can depict that many bumps and undulations in the road, it really makes you realize how many magnitudes of detail are absent from Prologue's 1920x1080 60fps picture.
As it stands, there's simply not enough pure information on the screen.

You're assuming damage is on the way. Fans have been asking for this since at least GT3, and probably even before that. Nothing yet, nor any indication from PD that it's coming...

...and yes, brake testing would be the most obvious downside of your proposal...

Good post, but I tend to disagree on this point. In RL, under complete loss of traction, if the tire bites again you will feel it (usually in the seat first, but also in the wheel). There is a noticable jerk to the movement of the car as its inertia from the slide pulls against the sudden direction change when the tire grips.

This is (to some extent) modeled in GT, as I have experienced it many times before. I think the problem as originally stated is that, once the tires lose traction, they seem not to bite again as readily as they should in RL.

If you play the demo of DIRT (yes I know its crap) but when you slide the car and then it regains its grip the whole car rocks on its suspension which is really good I think - you can tell that the car has slided and then the tyes have reached the point where they can grip the road again so they bite into it and you feel a jolt.

Check this video of monkey - when the clio regains its grip look how much the car (and him) gets jolted - you may need to register to view the video but do as it's a wicked site.

If your tyres were made of butter then this wouldn't be the case or if you were driving on ice.

Are the tyres made of butter in GT5? Could be as they don't leave skid marks either, but theres a total different thread for that also.

Just had an odd but intriguing idea, what if you could customize your Pit Area and Service Bay? It could show up in the online races (hopefully for real pitting later on) and allow you to show your "colors" without "disrespecting" the car manufacturers and designers by "messing" with the cars.

I have read through all of the previous posts and I think there are some great ideas in many of them. I could easily put about 100 things I would like to see as well but most have already been mentioned.

There is only one thing that I truly would like to see that I did not see posted already. It may seem insignificant, but for me it is one of my favorite parts of watching races in real life or just super fast cars, going super fast.

EXHAUST FLAMES and any of the related ENGINE and EXHAUST SOUNDS. Snap, crackle and pops. As well as turbos and turbo waste gates, super chargers, blow off valves, backfires, straight cut gears, etc. All of these audible elements and the visual element of exhaust flames, really complete the racing experience for me.

GT5p as it stands is visually stunning but I find myself bored at times because it seems like we are racing or watching replays of races with "electric" cars just "humming around".

PD please add the feeling of "combustion engines" either visually or audibly or both. Since we do not yet have "smellovision" with the smell of burnt rubber and racing fuel available in our living rooms, I think you can step up the audio and visual experience. Otherwise its fantastic so far!

I reckon exactly the same, it's just Prologue and the full game will be very different, for sure! Just not physics and graphics wise, they will remain basically the same, im afraid... Who needs standart mode ? Seriously not my cup of tea.
Release date? Supposed to come out december 08 in Japan, we'll see... :)

  • possibility te create your own license plate
  • Full anti-aliasing (&nd the cars will look even better, so more jaggies)
  • better off track (grass and sand) physics
  • true wide view (like amar mentioned). The left and right view in GT4, if playing with a multi monitor setup, are strectched, creating a terrible, unrealistic view. So no more strectche view on the left and right monitor
  • more realistic driving and tire physics. I'm still not 100% convinced that the physics are truely realistic (which is impossible for a game though)
  • full realistic real time damage => visual as mechanical and electronical, with 6 DoF's
  • deformable environment (visible tire marks in the sand and grass). If you hit a tire wall, all the tire have to move on inpact
  • no more invisible walls
  • better sounds (cars and tires)
  • 7.1 surround sound
  • cars getting dirty
  • tire pressure, tire temperature, tire blow outs
  • implement the DLL-files from the creators of the moving platform bluetiger
  • online replays, and private rooms
  • like in GTR (and real life) tire marbles left on the track
  • more grip as more rubber of the tires gets deposite on track during racing
  • implement the effects of wind (e.g. if you pass a car and there is a side wind, you will feel the effects of the side wind, like IRL)
  • if a car goes off track and leaves sand on track, the sand must influence the grip
  • FFB for pedals and shifter
  • being able to start/cut off the engine
  • realistic engine braking (if you are in H-pattern and you misshift and you revv the engine, the wheels should lock up
  • tire tracks if a car skids
  • if a car lifts off full throttle, the car should oversteer left or right and the driver has to countersteer to keep control of the car
  • realistic over and understeering
  • hood/bonnet view (my favourite view)
  • possibility to choose between left and right hand drive
  • less cars and more real world TRACKS
  • perfect AI instead of the AS (Artificiel Stupidity) we have now
  • make it possible to use the PSP as a rear view mirror
  • better replay system (possbility to choose between different cameras, FF, REW, slow motion, pauze)
EDIT:
  • realistic illumination of the environment by the headlights during night
  • an anti skid track where we can learn car control (defensive and offensive)
  • ingame chat
  • PS Eye as a tracking device
  • real time gasoline consumption
  • no more penalty system (replace it by damage)
  • pay for the damages we caused (e.g. on our and other cars), so we don't need a stupid penalty damage anymore because people will think twice before wrecking there car
  • like mentioned before, the possibility to turn off the HUD
It seems that I'm notcontent but I realy love GT5p but it can be better, it always can :sly:

Someone Sticky this...Like put it on the front page or something lol..:)..If anything should be mailed to PD ..It would be this post..

alot of good ideas but for a quick fix with online is the "wall bouncers" on high speed ring, a track i like to play around on when my left ankle gets sore from so many shifts :S (g25 ftw) is to have penalties for touching not just for slamming into the walls in certain points, sure we touch the walls on the exit but mid-way thru and bouncing to get a fast line total wrecks it for me. who in rl hits a wall thats the furthest point from the apex?

im doing all this braking to get around nicely then they come along 200meters behind bounce and are ahead of me.

Everyone print this off and let's send it to polyphone or what ever the heck its called.

I have a feeling PD or someone who works there has seen this wishlist.
I bet many of those features are being worked on. Lets face it,they need to implement alot of this kind of stuff just to be competitive with driving games these days.

Yes PD,the hard reality 'today' is you've proven you can make awesome car models and sadly thats about it.....time to really step-up guys.

Can the original poster edit his original post with all of the ideas posted? This way it's in one place for everyone to read before adding more. ;-)

It might seem like a small thing, but PLEASE sort out the in cockpit view and add in a Zoom function so I can see the apex and don't feel like I'm driving from the back seat. Also would be nice to have the dials of the car you are driving shown in bumper view instead of the generic ones, or at least an option to switch.

Yes,thats another good suggestion. PD need to have a 'look to apex' option on a slider scale in driving settings.
That way we can set it to our liking.

Numbers 1 and 2 plus the penalty system are my biggest gripe with GT5P. What good is a 5 second penalty when there is a rubber band catchup logic? It's not uncommon for the person penalized to come back and catchup to the pack and even win the race. Gosh, you can have 2 penalities and still win. And yes, the slip stream and bump drafting in this game are greatly exaggerated online.

Another pet peeve I have is the in car view. Am I wrong in thinking that you should have a wider field of vision in this view? When I drive my real car I am able to see out my peripheral vision. Being in the US my wheel is on the left side and if there is a car in the lane to my right, I can tell in my peripheral that there is a moving object on my right window. I may not be able to see the details of the car but I can tell that something is there and can even identify the color. In GT5P I have to hit a button to turn the driver's head to right to see if there is anything on my right. The only way this would be correct would be if the driver's face was planted on the windshield. Totally unrealistic.

Thanks for letting me vent.

You do realise you are playing on a TV, which is a flat surface? The maximum you can have is 90 degree FOV where as in real life you have almost 180 degrees...

It's not unrealistic, it's just not possible.

A little more texture filtering. When the camera is zoomed in on replays or on starting grids, shadows shimmer and look blocky. Square shadows are not good. But, I would rather have damage/more tracks/more cars/penalty fixes/private rooms/region unlock/lots of other things first. This is just a simple suggestion.
