Well, good for you mate. I'd rather spend time learning the intricacies and nuances of a racing game's physics model, as that effectively sparks my interest in it and makes me appreciate it more over the long run. Just like you own a superbike in real life, you'd spend time with it and really learn its limits. Most games today are just pick up and play, sadly. The depth is gone. Depth and learning curve are two very important elements to increase the replay value of an entertainment product.

But thanks to the "I want it all now" culture we live in, most people just want casual fun. It's a real shame, actually, that you can't have complex simulations on a home entertainment console and something that you'll only find in a motorsport training school.

But anyhow, to each their own. I'll prolly be skipping Ride 6, ain't gonna put my money down on a rehashed product with more of the same.
Understand completely…. To each his own. As someone who actually rides and does track days, I don’t need the gimmicks. I’m fine just doing laps. Doubt I’ve used 10% of the bikes in any of the games. Generally focus on the bikes I’ve owned and the tracks l like. Not for everyone but it’s what I enjoy. I mean just getting around Portimao or Kyalami just a little better and consistently is far more satisfying then these career mode. I do career task only when I have too but I put laps in because I want to….. big difference

If they simply kept added bikes and tracks to Ride 5 I’d be happy.

SBK22 was awesome with my one real complaint being the MotoGP 1st person view vs the Ride 1st person view. Think the Ride is better because it doesn’t do the sway thing. To bad Milestone charged full price for a partial game. Would have been better off as DLC for Ride 5

On the topic of Sim vs arcade (jump in and play). To each their own. But I think the problem is the way it’s been implemented. It divides instead of uniting the base. You don’t need different physics models just adjusted difficulty levels for the goals. I prefer the sim side but hate the progression model of these games. You shouldn’t have to force players to play a mode. So locking content behind silly career task kills a lot of the Ride games for me. There should be multiple ways to unlock content so if you like the grind of career tasks great but also for players like myself who just like to put in laps.

I don’t think I’ve ever completed a career in any of the Ride games. Generally just put AI and difficulty on lowest to get the bikes I want then never go back. Shouldn’t be paying to do homework.

I own all the Ride games so there is no reason for me to buy Ride 6. It doesn’t carry over my previous data. Can’t import my custom liveries. Removed content I already purchased and no doubt will require another annoying repetitive grind to unlock content that I want. For what? Ride fest and baggers? They’ve removed Phillip Island and Valencia. So instead of breaking controllers cause the ai will be terrible it’s an easy pass.

They are trying to be GT without understanding why GT is held in such high esteem.
Really great thoughts there. Totally agree. Yes, the SBK helmet cam is funny and must admit not a fan of the sway mechanics. Ride 5's helmet cam is great but if they had included that extra trippy helmet cam from replays in all the Ride, MotoGp games and SBK, that would have been unbelievable.

I've personally never bothered with finishing the career in ANY racing game to date I think, unless we're talking about the very early days of GT 1 and 2 on the Playstation. Even then, I didn't fully finish the game. My motivation is a lot like yours: pick a bike and track, do some laps, enjoy the ride, admire my handywork in the replays, that kind of stuff.

I think Milestone really has no direction or roadmap whatsoever regarding the Ride franchise. They're literally just experimenting with each game, hoping something will take off. If Polyphony brings back a current-gen Tourist Trophy version and makes it available on all platforms, would'nt that be something?

Finally, I don't understand why Milestone's vision for bike physics sways so wildly. They release Ride 4 and 5 with reasonably good physics, I loved them a lot - and then people complain BOOM - they nerf the physics. Now it's a simplistic model everyone must contend with. Moronic is a mild word.

Sadly we have a better chance of Milestone finally figuring things out then ever seeing a TT2. Wished they’d stop teasing and just say it ain’t happening

Agreed with the Ride 4/5 physics (though still think Tourist Trophy helmet cam did the best at realistic feel). But problem unlike cars the masses aren’t into bikes. Instead of accepting that bikes will never be that huge crossover seller Milestone keeps trying (get they need to make $$$$) so each game is wildly different. More and more they listen to “influencers” and cater to them and each game just gets worse.

Don’t need to be a real rider. Not do a it need to be ultra hard (cause that’s not real either) if they listened to their core base they’d have a consistent seller with a lot less production costs. I’m sure playing GT1 back to back with GT7 is night and day. But if you played the whole series it’s more gradual instead of the whiplash between Milestones titles . Their SX games are another example of this . But with all the changes they NEVER fix the things people complain about with each title

But is what it is. Never try to complete task or trophy hunt. The only titles I’ve completed were ones I just enjoyed and didn’t notice

Complaining aside I’m a Yamaha guy so I generally spend my time on the 05 & 2020 R1s, R6s and original (and only to me ) 99 R7

My fav tracks are Portimao, Kyalami, Mugello, Phillip Island , Donington , Valencia and MOS sport

Because of the bad braking dynamics I hate most of the UK road circuits

Wished they’d add Assen (old classic), Oschersleben, Jerez, and Albecete.

I've actually communicated with the Milestone team over at Discord when reporting issues on Ride 4 and 5. While the actual team dealing with the commnuication seemed nice and responsive enough (somewhat), I think deep down the Milestone management is another one of those companies that suffer from arrogance, indifference, and way too much focus on revenues and numbers.

Instead of listening to the actual core base and feedback or suggestions from real riders, they listen more to influencers, so-called market experts and other similar groups or people who can potentially boost their revenue.

With the Ride 6 trailer reveal, I am convinced this franchise is at long last, sadly, running into the ground.

So I'm going to echo what you said: It is what it is. I have incredible memories of Ride 3, 4 and 5, gave me so much pleasure and entertainment without actually having to buy and get on a real superbike, so I'm grateful for that. Took me mind off things as well and definitely helped me cope with many of life's unexplained retardations.

A quick tangeant: the braking is such a mixed bag in the Ride games. You don't fall off when you should due to leaning over and braking too hard. The wheels don't lock up and send you sliding or falling when they easily would IRL and at times, the bikes just stop like a rock as if there is no inertia in the engine or any kind of progressive force acting on the brake calipers/discs. Just bizzarre. I think Milestone thinks most of their player base have NO idea how bikes behave in real life, especially really fast ones. They are dead wrong.

Anyhoo, Ride 4 ditched so many great things from 3, such as the upgrade system and some tuning options, along with some killer tracks that I was sad to see go. They did the same with 5 although I do enjoy the new tuning options. Furthermore, mixed reviews of MotoGP 25 and 24 (some say 24 is best out of the three latest ones) are more proof that they literally do not have any roadmap of where they want to be and instead, just experiment with something different every new game.

Terrible business vision, IMO, and they will likely pay for it. Problem is, no other developer is willing to step up and show Miley how it's done when it comes to producing great motorcyle games. Also, moto racing games may be in the minority, but if developed and marketed right with all the right features and options, they can 100% be up there with the likes of AC, DR, Forza, GT, etc.

Hasn't happenned yet though, and not sure if it will anytime soon. People today I think are really weary, washed up, tired, and fatigued most of the time so they just want an easy experience with minimal effort. It's easier to fake four wheel driving in a videogame than two wheel riding. Food for thought.

As always, happy riding!

The biggest problem is this: Forza Motorsport is sells millions but Forza Horizons sells 10s of millions. We are lucky we aren’t getting a 💩🤡👨‍❤️‍👨 arcade game.1# As a simulation physics based guy the closer to a full sim the better.#2 Motorcycle content(stop taking away bikes so that older game stays relevant…I don’t like going backwards). #3 Track content. #4 Graphics and elevation perception is a big part. #5 Sound is tougher than it sounds haha but playing a lot of racing games it seems so but very immersive….. The baggers and enduros look great But, But making off-road tracks for enduro bikes is way to much development for a road racing game🙄. Generic race bikes should have been a stock bike upgradable option that could have been a fun not a bike count filler.(we also lose irl race bikes)ouch. Everyone has their own dream version of the game but it is a fun series in general.

I get the perspective of Forza vs Horizon but think it’s safe to say there is little chance of a bike racing game sim or arcade hitting Horizon type numbers. The Ride games aren’t crap just frustrating because it’s hard to understand who Milestone is targeting

Think about this you see car fanatics and even pro racers flocking to car racing games but can’t tell you how many times I’ve been at the track with my PS and no one wanted to play Ride, MotoGP, SX etc……. These are people who live eat sleep bikes and they’d rather play GT, Forza , Mario Kart anything but a bike game . That’s kind of a problem if people who live bikes have no interest in your game

Then for those who actually buy the games and this is my biggest issue. These games aren’t free and getting more expensive each release and seems like Milestone just takes their user base for granted. If I were just getting into the Ride series yeah I’d be more excited for Ride 6. But pun intended I’ve been in this Ride before. Instead of building a community they ignore it. There isn’t anything in Ride 6 that makes me think it’s worth buying given all the hrs I’ve logged into the previous 5 versions. Regardless of the wrapping the Fest is just going to be same career tasks. Instead of. Magazine covers , leagues now you have ride fest .

Not trying to convince anyone not to buy the game just beyond frustrating at this point that this is the only option available. Yes 100% fun series it’s pretty much the only games I play but as stated Ride 4/5 has enough covered that it’s going to take something HUGE to make me buy another one unfortunately Ride 6 isn’t that

I have been completing (or trying to complete) the Weekly Challenges recently, which are still running for Ride 2,3&4 (annoyingly they removed them with Ride 5) and have noticed how popular they still are.

I am way down at the bottom of this week's Supermoto event leaderboard on Ride 3 which has 985 entries (on a 7 year old game!)

On Ride 4 there are 2,451 entries this week.

So it's clearly popular enough that I hope the Weekly Challenges return in Ride 6.

PS The Bikes feel much more "squirrely" in Ride 4 than in 2 and 3 (at least to me) so I'm coming off the bike a lot more often in that.

Bikes are way too planted in Ride 2 and 3. Ride 4 actually "had" the best physics model out of all the Ride games - that is, until shortly after release they dumbed down the physics for noobs and casuals. The physics were incredible, gradual learning curve and all, very nuanced. We lost all that because of a few college kids complaining "we can't stay on the bike".

Problem is, bike culture is nowhere near as popular as car culture so the base is always going to be pretty tiny. I can understand why Milestone tries to "dumb down" the physics to make it more accessible. If only hardcore bikers purchased the game, Milestone may need to shut up shop very quickly 🤣

I didn't they still had weeklies for Ride 2! I may check them out sometime

I can't stay on the bike and i left college in 199...

As @Ryan81 points out above, the game needs to make a profit. Aimng to appeal to only hardcore gamers very rarely does - ask PMR, Rennsport, etc etc etc, even more so with the much higher costs of producing games since the HD era. The game also has to sell outside of PC, and console racers are even less likely to be hardcore.

PS Not related to your post, but if Milestone's bike games don't sell, and they stop making them, you will NEVER see another bike game EVER.

No-one else makes them and hasn't done for years. Which means a very high probability that no-one else is going to in the future. EVER.

The best you can hope for is them being retained in The Crew 4.

That said I never pre-order games and I wont be pre-ordering this either. But if the reviews are good enough, I will be buying this iteration earlier than the last one.

For one thing, I like games with extensive single player careers and these are a rarity nowadays.

I will attempt to explain the main problem with motorcycle games with some better clarity here (again).

Lets look at how we actually ride one of my ten motorcycles, because Ride is a road racing game, lets say my CBR1000 SP track bike with 197 rwhp. We make the bike move forward with a combination of a 1/6 turn throttle and a wet clutch that has not quite two inches of travel to meter out that power. We make the bike stop with a combination of a handlebar mounted front brake lever and right foot controller rear brake pedal (I have a thumb brake on my wishlist) that build pressure as you squeeze them in a way you can feel and make very fine adjustments as you stop. The bike is turned with the riders entire body encompassing an arc that measures in feet. The rider leans forward and backward and side to side to make the machine turn, stop, hook up, keep the front end down on acceleration, the rear end down on braking. You can feel every single thing that machine is doing underneath you and make minute adjustments to dozens of parameters to keep it going where you want it to go in the manner you'd like it to be doing it in. You can do some amazing things and I'm not even that great a rider (competent and safe, but slow), truly great riders are really special to watch. And then we get into the modern electronics, which are ridiculously good at making it easier to ride safer AND faster.

So now with this game, you're making us replicate all of that with a crappy controller, that may have a little haptic feedback if they bother to implement it, using sticks and triggers that have millimeters and millimeters of travel, and buttons that are literal on/off switches. With my old man mechanics hands. And there is the problem, right there. Making it harder because "trust me, bro" is ridiculous. 4 was the best of the series with this. 5 probably had better vehicle dynamics but they screwed the controller up so much it was worse.

I don't have a PS5 controller but question for Team Sony, tell me about gyro steering? Could that work if Milestone chooses to implement it?

Get these companies need to make money. It’s not about being some uber unplayable sim…. But you have to admit it’s a problem if what should be your core market (motorcyclists) in large isn’t interested.

It doesn’t have to be either or. What Milestone has done hasn’t worked and they are loosing what market they have.

Despite the myth you can be good at Virtua Fighter by button mashing. Too be great and competitive against the best is a different story. Regardless of which goal you aspire to the game doesn’t change or have a button mash vs sim mode. It’s simply designed to allow the player to grow to whatever type player they want. The same can be done with bike games

Money is the bottom line, for better or worse. Kudos to Milestone for at least giving it a go. They're the only studio creating anything like it currently.

I've got no doubt Ride 6 will be perfectly decent because it's Milestone, they don't really do complete turkeys. It'll look ok, play nicely, it'll have a lot going for it. But for me - particularly with Ride but also the MotoGP series - they seem unsure which direction to take with each individual title and fiddle around with stuff that maybe they don't need to, its all a bit trial and error and suggests a lack of clear vision for the games.

This time round it's aiming for a Forza Horizon type thing, but next time it'll probably be a totally different vibe but with a pretty much identical game underneath, unless this approach really causes a massive uptick in sales and online users, which it probably won't because the actual game itself will be massively similar to the last one, so it's all a bit Catch 22.

With Ride 4 they seemed to move away from the original vibe with loads of fictional circuits cut and more laser scanned official tracks added, which personally I thought was a good direction. Since then they seem to be going back towards fictional, now Horizon Festival style content, but with added real-life riders featured and.....just make your minds up Milestone!!!

I reserved the Ultimate Edition. I wasn’t sure if I should do it because I’m on the Xbox and not sure what MS plan is for the future but hoping nothing drastic will happen. Guaranteed to be a good game of course not 100% the direction I would take the game but that’s life. Hope DLC will put some more content that I like and not gimmick oddball trash. (edit) I’m being too harsh about gimmicks because I liked all their content so far and the only thing I can say I wish they didn’t add are off road dirt tracks(MXgp game is one of my favorite series) because tracks take a whole lot of development time and this is a road bike game..

Xbox store will still be around and it's at least a year/2 years until next gen, so nothing to worry about there.

I don't preorder any game, but if I see good reviews here post launch I'll pick it up then.

Still working my way through the career modes on earlier Ride games while i wait.

Fame points? Someone at Milestone has been playing The Crew 2

To be fair, it looks as though there will be lots of things to do and plenty of flexibility in what you choose to do when, which is a big plus for me. That takes me all the way back to the Grid career mode and I feel its the best approach.

Hopefully they also release a multiplayer vid soon (for those that prefer mp).

And I'd like to see anything they have lined up for the game post release (other than DLC). They could give the game "legs" by adding weekly challenges for credits or those unlock tickets referred to in the video (just as long as they don't add FOMO crap!).
As a minimum, we need the weekly time trials back!
