Playing more of the game, I can definitely say the difficulty has been altered a bit across the board. Tree Tops is actually harder for me than the original, but mainly because the Supercharge ramps seemingly couldn't get me far as in the original. I figured out why though, you have to wait more for the momentum to build up than in the original. Spyro could usually get max speed on a ramp quickly on the original game, but you have to wait more here for it to happen. The flight levels are also seemingly harder than the original, night flight for instance required me trying a lot more times before actually beating it.

On the other end, Misty bog is quite easier. The attack frogs definitely don't extend their tongues as far compared to the original, I can actually land more hits on them. The gnorcs however caught me off guard as they actually come at you once you land nearby them.

Finished Spyro 1, not 100% just yet but beat the final boss.

Slightly disappointed the credits dont fly you through the levels like the originals. I always loved that. At least the song is the same.

Same here, I was hoping they would go all the way and actually showcase the levels through the credits. It's a darn shame really.

Also, the Wizard Peak thief is still a big dummy! :D

Some pictures I'll hold in spoilers:
HEH

Yup, the thief actually looks devious here. Still think the eyes could've been sharper though. Also, sparx says hi! :D

The fairies are adorable. I feel bad for the lofty castle ones.

I love this view.

Manage to get 100% level complete on one, in Sypro 2. getting the last few gems are annoying because you can never find them, but still enjoying all of it.

I finished Spyro 1 yesterday at 100% and now currently finishing Autumn plains, but not at 100% yet. I have to come back to some levels due to having to learn headbash and I still haven't backtracked to summer forest with the climb ability yet.

Also, these thieves are fast, but not very bright. :P

I'm getting closer to finishing Spyro 2 (Which is the first one I started with) Although I am kinda glad there are no trophies for skill points.
Hoping to finish it soon.

Edit: 88% completed. 6 total trophies to go. Kinda want to finish but I kinda want to take a rest.

Just platinum Spyro 2. Now I can rest for a while before doing the others.

While I am loving these remakes, I have noticed a few flaws from ToysforBob.

I think the flying might be too stiff in some places, making some price flying rather difficult. Wild Flight for instance felt a bit worse because of this, I found myself more often landing on accident than in the original Spyro 1. Spyro 2 & 3 have a glitch with sparx sometimes not pickup up a gem, even if its right next to me (minor, I know). In the Enchanted Towers side mission with guiding Farley the wolf home, there was a point where he I couldn't get him to move onto a switch I wanted him to press. I kept trying to spit on the switch and it just wouldn't happen. The ball would just bound back into Spyro's mouth, even though this didn't happen the previous couple switches I spat it. I had to restart the mission because of this. I found another issue in another level where I couldn't progress and had to commit suicide in order to try again.

On the other end of the scale, I did love some of the changes made to the remakes. For instance, I am happy that the camera perspective changed for the turtle soup mission, the alchemist mission, Shelia guiding the fireflies, and helping Nancy the ballerina. The top-down perspective always annoyed me in the original games as it made me have to adjust how I control Spyro. Having the regular camera makes these missions so much easier!

Now one minor dissappointment, the kitty cats don't stay in the goal posts after the minigame. Awww, I wanted to look at the kitties after winning. :(

Made it to Gnasty's World in Spyro 1. Not after platinuming the game yet but will be taking my time to 100% each level rather than speed running through.

Also the Metalback Spiders in High Caves still terrify the 🤬 out of me despite the redesign.

Completed Spyro 1 120%, Riptos Rage 100%, and Year of the Dragon 117% so all complete. Even managed to Platinum the 3rd game. :D

Overall seriously impressed with the remake. The levels were gorgeous. I did notice some mini games were far easier than they used to be. That or I just got better at the games. The races still were very annoying in Spyro 3, thanks to the adjusting difficulty settings they kept from the original so even after hitting every turbo star and flying perfectly you can still lose the race.

I have completed every Spyro game except for skill points on Spyro 2 and doing all achievements. Time to share my overall thoughts.

Pros:
1. I love the visuals quite a bit, all of the levels just look so beautiful to play through. It brings back that wondrous feel that I loved about the original trilogy. The level redesigns just had me wanting to explore every single place. The enemies and npcs all look great with the modern coat of paint. I especially love some of the redesigns such as Sheila the Kangeroo, The Professor, Moneybags, and Bianca.

2. Spyro's controls are so damn tight in Reignited, I swear he controls better here than in the original games. Each charge and glide feels so much better, even supercharge feels better. Honestly, I found a lot of the supercharger challenges easier than in the original due to the revised controls. Well, all except one challenge that will be mentioned in the cons. The controls of the other characters in Spyro 3 feel improved aswell. Bentley is a bit faster, Sheila feels more stable, Sgt. Byrd controls better, and Agent 9's controls feel the most improved of the 4. Mainly because Agent 9 was really clunky in the original, making his mini games a bit annoying. However, the revised controls now feel like a modern shooter; making almost all of his minigames fun now.

3. I like the fact ToysforBob changed the camera for some minigames in Reignited over the Original games. I found the turtle soup minigame in Spyro 2 less frustrating due to this.

4. The voice acting for the characters along with the new soundtrack is actually pretty good. Some of the voices sound close to the original such as The Professor and Sgt Byrd. The Gnasty Gnorc theme sounds more intense and Super Bonus Round's theme still pumps me up.

5. It's nice to see they brought skill points to Spyro 1, giving me something else to do in Spyro 1. I also like that they added other changes such as Spyro now being able to grab a platform at the end of a glide if he's close to the platform.

6. Going into new areas in Spyro 3 is so much more seamless now, it's just instant. Like in a snap, I go from one area to another. Being able to move spyro around in loading screens also is a bit satisfying.

Cons:
1. While I said the controls are quite improved, there some some exceptions where I would say are worse. For one, I would say the flying mechanic is a bit worse. I mean, regular flying is quite okay, but I swear Spyro flys faster in Reignited than in the original. Which is fine unless you're trying to do some precise flight and challenges that require flaming objects. The faster flying makes tighter flying levels like Wild Flight more frustrating. In addition, the star boost in Spyro 3 makes spyro drift off more versus the original. When using the star power up in the original Spyro 3, I could still maintain control. Here in reignited, it makes spyro drift, making the races way more frustrating.

2. The new supercharge mechanic annoys me, mainly because of Tree Tops. I don't know how, but ToysforBob managed to make this level harder than in the original. I've gotten to a point in the original Tree Tops where I can effortlessly beat this level due to knowing all of the tricks. However, that doesn't help me much in reignited where I struggle to super jump to just one platform due to how momentum builds on Reignited's supercharge ramps. It's annoying I now have to wait for momentum to build up to actually make a jump, especially since it isn't always reliable.

3. There's some redesigns I think are bad choices. I'll start with the gnorcs again, they don't look goofy enough. Their simplified expressions and big eyes were more funny and goofy to me. Yes, it's a creative re imagination, but I'm sorry, it's not a good one.

4. Some voices also imo are not what I would choose. I.E. the voice for the colossus monks, they sound cool, but that's my point. I liked the monks in the original for their goofy voices and chants. The voices of the Enchanted Towers NPCs do not work imo along with some of the dragons in Spyro 1. I mean, the quality of the voices is top notich. I just think some voice choices just don't suit the characters in question.

5. Glitches, I've noticed a few glitches that others noticed such as sparx not picking up some gems. There's also bigger glitches that annoy me like this one mission in Fracture Hills with hunter. There was a point where he was shooting nothing and the game would think he hit an earthshaper. I had to restart the level to fix it. Also, the camera changes annoyingly when going into some areas, disorienting me.

6. Frame Rate Drops can occur, nothing gamebreaking imo, but I had to point it out. The load times are also a bit slow for re spawning into a level.

7. Some missions still are frustrating as ever, some are even worse. However, I have to mark points against them for not trying to do anything to make them less annoying. I.E. Seriously, they couldn't make the fireflies in Sheila's escort mission slower? What about the Alchemist escort mission? Why couldn't they fix the fighting mechanics in the Bentley boxing minigame? Oh and god I HATE THE STUPID 🤬 DRAGON FIGHTING MINIGAME IN FIREWORKS FACTORY EVEN MORE. It's awful, they're now even harder to hit and they're way more aggressive. I found this mini boss even harder than the boss fights in Spyro 3. If I'm having a hard time, I can only imagine the poor kids that play through this part.

Final Verdict: A lot of my cons are small parts of the game that don't matter in the grand scheme of things, the remade trilogy is still overall amazing! I love it, it made me feel like a little kid again re-exploring the same levels with modern graphics. I'm glad to see Spyro back in action and here's hoping this game does so well in sales; ToysforBob gets motivated to make another Spyro game.

Nice review, I agree with every point on there.

I do, however, think the games were overall easier. Some challenges, such as the turtle soup and alchemist escort were massively frustrating when I was a kid but easier in the remake, but I chalk that up to just being better at playing videogames. One thing I recall being way easier was the witch shooting mini game when playing as Sgt. Byrd. Were the missiles always homing missiles? I don't recall, but that part seemed easier than the original.

The flying levels seemed a bit harder, though, so I agree the flying controls might be faster a bit and harder to control. Also, the dragon shooting challenge in 3 was definitely more difficult!

Agree on the voice acting changes being somewhat worse than the original games, with the chanting monks being a standout. I remember the original chants like it was yesterday so the remake's were obviously changed. Not terrible, but a standout in my memory.

One thing that I am very pleased with is the music. It all feels familiar and brilliant as the originals, but changed enough to feel fresh. Notable example of music being better in Reignighted is the music in Midnight Mountains world of Spyro 3. Originally was a bit annoying and out of place compared to the other music's normal calming sounds in the game, but the remixed song was an improvement.

Overall, the game exceeded my expectations. Felt like I was finally seeing the games as I imagined them as a kid. They felt like they did 20 years ago but changed enough to feel new still. The worlds are beautiful and the character redesigns are good, so I think Toy's for Bob nailed it.

Oh god, your reply reminded me on why I need to proofread my comments. Jeez, how did I make so many mistakes?! I'll fix them right now.
Okay, now for the actual response.

The alchemist mission is about the same as the original, so it's most likely you being better at the game than before. The turtle soup minigame though definitely feels a bit easier due to the camera change. You don't have to adjust to new controls. To answer your question about Sgt. Byrd, yes; he actually always had guided missiles.

I hate how the 3rd one and controlling Sgt.
The camera angels suck so much.
Passive or active you get too high and then you start getting all confused and camera angel just sucks. lost like 5 lives because of it.

Finally beat Spyro 2! Now to attempt 1 & 3.

Also I found a bug!

Edit:
All 3 games platinum.
All games 100%+

So I have no use to play anymore.
That was a fun month from release.

Sorry for necromancing this thread but I've only started playing this game now and it's suffering from really bad framerate drops at times. Is that because I'm playing on a base PS4 or does the Pro have the same problem?

Its all good! You are never late to play this game hehe! Anyway, the PS4 Pro ver can handle those frame drops unlike the original PS4 ver. A minor patch would fix it but yeah Toys For Bob (devs) won't be updating that game anymore. They're hard at work on polishing up Crash Bandicoot 4 before its launch date next month.

Apologies for bringing this thread back, but I have a question. I have considered getting this game on PS4 for a while now, but now that I have a Series X, I am not so sure anymore. Is there any advantage to getting this on the Series X over the PS4?

Not trying to start a “console war” here, but I’d really like to know which I am better off with before I eventually buy it.

There may be visual/graphical improvements. I recently got Crash on my PS5 and it looks better than I remembered when I played it on PS4.

I’d assume load times will be shorter on the Series X (keep in mind it will be the XOne version on backwards compatibility); any other difference between the consoles should be negligible at best.

Are you on a base PS4? If yes, I absolutely recommend playing on Series X. When I was playing this game on my base PS4 I had really bad framerate drops, especially when turning the camera around. I talked about it just two posts above yours.

Come to think of it, perhaps I should pick this up again, now that I've got a PS5. Due to the performance issues I quit playing after getting the Platinum for Spyro 1. I never touched the second and third games 🤔

And that's what I suspect as well, but I wondered if anyone has actually tried both.

Yea I read your post earlier, but I still wanted to know if the Series X is any better. I kind of like the way it looks on Playstation better because from what I have seen, it's kind of washed out on Xbox, but seeing it listed as enhanced on Series X, it has me curious.
