Well...we got about 15 or so inches, here, with a 20" drift that would have blocked Nina in tomorrow if the kind man with the snowblower hadn't come. However, when I look at what our Queensland members have to deal with...suddenly 15 inches of snow doesn't seem so bad.

Prayin' for you guys if you accept that or not.
 
In Chicago, we finished with what looks like 16-18 inches of snow, and massive drifts of three feet or so due to how easily this icy snow was able to be blown around. There were also some piles of five or six feet where the plows had pushed the snow aside, on top of all that had fallen already. It didn't feel like such a big disaster to me, but I am on the South Side and a fair distance from the lake, and there are indications (for instance, both the public schools and my university had a snow day for the first time since 1999) that this has to have been unusually bad, because the city is kind of a mess. Winds were pretty strong yesterday and last night, but they were really able to gain steam over the water, with gusts supposedly reaching 70 mph. A surprising number of streets have not been plowed, and the roads were evidently skating rinks judging by the number of accidents that have been reported. Lake Shore Drive was apparently closed for several hours last night because of that, which left a long line of traffic stuck with nowhere to go (and inevitably, some people abandoned their cars, which only further impeded the efforts to get everyone back on their way). And according to the e-mail sent out by the university, the school shuttle service, which among other things serves off-campus dorms, suffered "several accidents" last night before they shut it down, leaving some unfortunate people stuck sleeping in the common areas of other dorms.
 
So last night it totally didn't belt down with rain, then thunder and lightning (at 5AM :irked: ), then snow, and now it is sunny...
Fantastic... Naaaaaht!

Not me, but probably effects a few Queensland members. Ridiculously large Category 5 cyclone will hit Northern Queensland later tonight. 320km/h winds. 400miles wide.

I got somewhere from 18-20 inches of snow where I live, and with 50 mph gusts at times we have some gigantic drifts! It was the biggest snowstorm in the history of my county.
 
Final totals for Lake Orion, the town in the centre of the township where I live, reported 10" to the National Weather Service. A little more then I thought but nothing I couldn't handle. I'm dying to go skiing now.

It's friggin' FREEZING here! Woke up this morning to at least 15-20*F temperature!

Worst part is the main line freezing-woke up, took a piss as usual, flush, toilet sounds odd...*shrugs*, go to wash my hands, and no water?

Woke my mom up saying there's no water, calls my dad and he says to take a hairdryer and hold it up to the pipe.

15-20 mintues later out in the cold, finally got it unfrozen. Went inside, felt like my hands were pricked with needles. Took a nice shower, and back out into the cold to head to school (by car).

Was ok yesterday, rode my bike in the morning to school, didn't have a huge issue.

Damn...Tucson, AZ at 15*? everyone would think you're crazy!


Edit: Worst part: No gas AT ALL until ether later today or around this time tomorrow. No hot water. No home-made meals (hot pockets FTW)....this 🤬 SUCKS!
 
:lol: our high for tomorrow is 20 and that actually will feel pretty warm.
 
Ah, but you're not in the desert where it's supposed to be warm! ;)

We're supposed to be back into the mid-high 60's by Saturday though. :D

OK, it is one thing to not be able to figure out how to do things in the snow and ice, but to be thrown off by something as mild as 15-20 degree temperatures?

Honestly, I am surprised your mainline is exposed like that. We keep ours underground until it enters the house. I have to lose power for my pipes to freeze. And that is prevented by letting the water run. Even just because warm temperatures can make running cold water pointless, keeping your water lines from being exposed seems like it should be a good idea for everyone, no matter where they live.

Oh, and cover your hands if you need to be outside for an extended or unknown period of time. It wasn't cold enough to be a problem in such a short time frame, but frost bite is serious stuff. Tingling hands is a good thing though. It means your tissue is still alive and you will be fine.

I get that part, but those temperatures causing you to lose gas and water when there is still power? Gas? We have above ground gas tanks in people's yards here and no one has this problem, and 20 is our high for the foreseeable future.

And do they not run water lines underground? I could understand if it were a case where the water reservoir's themselves froze over, but the lines when you have power? That needs sub zero temperatures around here.

It's just that the problems he is having require far more severe conditions to even be an issue around here.
 
Kiruna, a town in northern Sweden had -43 C (-45 F) last night.

That is fairly cold I think.
 
It's 50, in February, in Michigan. Last week it was 2 without the windchill. I'm confused to say the least. I think Mother Nature is playing a cruel joke on me.
 
We hit 80 degrees last weekend. Went for a hike and enjoyed every minute of it. This weekend is supposed to be really wet though. :(
 
Enjoying Cali Weather. Rainy in the morning, but steady sunshine at about 55F :D Just the right coldness where you can wear 2 layers :) Just the way me likes.
 
TB, how's the weather out there in ND? Still as cold as it was a couple of weeks ago?

It's been sunny for the past couple of days, but cold. Weather is much like typical Seattle: unpredictable.

We were at a lovely 40 for a few days only to return back down to teens for highs and minus single digits for the lows. In the end, it's better this way to lessen the chance of breaking the Red River's record setting flood level again. :scared:
 
Hey! I'm stuck in my bathroom after the 4 hr Enduro at Tsukaba. Why you may ask? A Tornado Warning was issued for the city of Indianapolis. :eek:
 
Very cold. 27 low and 44 high. That's the coldest it's been here in decades. We had snow yesterday morning for about 89 minutes. It was raining like mad, too but it's clearing up. Tomorrow (today) will be warmer and no rain in sight.
 
Cold and rainy again today. Think it was 37 this morning on the way to work. It's supposed to cool down later today though and start snowing. Only an inch or so. The roads are going to suck though, with all this thawing and freezing it'll be a pothole nightmare.
