Things you never leave home without?

Why do so many people bring a pocket knife everywhere? :odd:

I'm also amazed how many people carry swiss army knifes and stuff.

Do you really use them that often?

It's one of those things that sounds weird if you don't have one (I was the same way), but once you get one you'll wonder how you ever got along without it. I’m not sure about the other members, but I literally use it everyday.

And cool guns, Solid.

Pocket knives do come in handy. I don't carry one, however. I keep one in my car though, along with bunch other stuff.

I'm old, so I always have to count four things that I must take with me before I leave home. This excludes boxer shorts, socks, etc.

I also carry 2 guns and a six pack. I dread the day I get pulled over for speeding.

I think people would be more worried if I began carrying knifes (even of a short length) around.

also my keys, oyster card, credit card and mobile phone/mp3 player.

Can anybody give me examples of situations when it would be used? I cant think of any situations on an average day where i would need a knife

Lots of people carry their phones....I stopped carrying mine about a year ago. I usually had it off when I was out of my dorms/house so I realized there was no point in carrying it.

It is useful sometimes, when I know I will have to meet up with some poeple, but usually I don't miss it.
I feel like I'm missing an arm or something when I don't have mine on me .

Spectacles...something(s), wallet and watch.

I'm not sure I'm allowed to post the second thing. ¬_¬

You can go ahead and post testicles, if you want. Just make sure it isn't an image, though.

To help rescue somebody from their vehicle, for one. In fact, the knife I posted, called "The Rescue," was made for just that. You can safely slide the knife between a crash victim and their seatbelt without the fear of accidentally cutting them. A cop friend saved the life of a elderly man with one, once. Remember, a lot of seatbelts don't unfasten after a crash, so try getting out of your seatbelt in a hurry if your car is on fire.

The fine point tip of this knife is used to push against a window to break it, which is the best, safest and most sure way of breaking a car window.

This would probably only apply to me, but whatever:
I'm riding my bike down the road. The chain pops off and lodges itself in between the two frontal gears. You use the knife to pry it out of there, and the screwdriver to tighten the selector.
Alternatively, you are trying to impress the "honies," if you will. You whip out your knife and use the crappy corkscrew to get the cork out of your champagne. When the corkscrew brakes off and shrapnel lodges itself in your arm, you use the blade to pull the corkscrew shrapnel out.

Naturally, only one of those is serious. Can you find which one? In seriousness, it's hard to explain how useful a knife can be if you carry one every day, and you might as well be prepared.

Which isn't something you'll be using it for on the average day. They do have daily uses but tbh I find that whenever I need a knife or small screwdriver ect I'm somewhere where I have one to hand anyway. They arn't a nessecity.

The one I keep in my car is a swiss army style(i.e. cheapie) pocket knife. I open things with it. Food, CDs, boxes, you name it. I rarely use them to cut things, personally.

I get what you guys are saying but i dont drink champagne, rescue people and break windows on a daily basis. Oh and i dont ride a bike either.

I guess its one of those things thats hard to explain. I'll carry it around this week and give it a try :)

In the event of an emergency, it's always good to have a phone on you.

Phones are common enough now that someone around me will have one if an emergency happens.

And if I am able to dial a phone, I'll be able to get home and deal with it there.

As to the pocket knives, I have a Leatherman micra on my keychain, and I find it useful for opening packaging, clipping hangnails, taking stray threads off my clothes, opening beers. I've used the screwdriver many times for car/computer repair without having to go look for one. And in my electronics lab classes it comes in very useful.

Anyway, theres nothing I really take everywhere, except clothes, really.
Except when doing drunken nudie runs.

Wallet - with ATM/credit cards - rarely any cash
Sunnies
Mobile phone
Keys
Work Keys/Smart card and name badge
Lip Balm
Nail file
Dental Floss
Tissues
Eye drops
Bottle of water
and assorted other things that make their way into my handbag.

I gave up long ago on trying to understand why women carry so much stuff with them. My mom keeps an extra pair of shoes in the car for chrissakes.

What about Jack?

I never leave home without my watch and my keys (house [front & back doors], garage and bike lock).

I think some of it comes from not usually having pockets in what I wear. Gotta put my keys and wallet somewhere and if I have to take a bag for them I may as well cram in whatever I may need in an emergency (broken nails, food caught in teeth, crap in caught under a contact lense- real life emergencies :) )
And that list is nothing compared to what I used to have to carry when my darling Jack was a little baby.

What about Jack?

I usually make a point of leaving home without him.

Speaking of which - Jack I am going for a walk along the beach, can you unpack the dishwasher when its done and hang your washing out.

And you're implying you do?

Keep in mind your mother is a member of these forums, Jack.

Uh, no I'm not really implying anything. Some people make these things called jokes every now and then.

And mums just silly. I wouldn't have read about her going out on a walk earlier. I'm fair sure I was watching TV at that point, not doing my internet duties.
