Warner Bros and DC have just made an official announcement that the Man of Steel sequel will include Batman. Who in your opinion should be the next actor to don the cape and the cowl, and why?

I'd guess it could be JGL ,needs to build some muscle though

I know it is impossible but I have 1% hope Bale might change his mind.

Doesn't matter. Marvel and Joss Whedon just announced that the next Avengers film will be Age of Ultron. DC are going to have a tough time competing with that.

If they can also announce that Stan Lee won't make another one of his stupid cameos, then you may just have a valid point.

DC have been slow getting their shared universe off the ground. Marvel are already leaps and bounds ahead, and now they're announcing that Age of Ultron will be going head-to-head with this Superman/Batman cross-over at the box office. A cross-over that demands a total and abrupt tonal shift from the established Nolanverse just to work. Everything DC has done has been completely reactionary to Marvel, and now they're up against Marvel's 600-pound gorilla.

I AM BATMAN. Maybe if I didn't make Henry Cavill look shrimpy. Oh well.

Speaking of making Cavill look like a shrimp, I really hope they don't pick some faggy teeny bopper heart throb douche like Gosling or Gyllenhall.

Just go with Ray Stevenson (Batman's gotta be older for a TDKR storyline, right?) and use SFX to beef up ol' Hank.

It all depends on how they want to position Batman. I'm not sure if they'll want to have the character as a continuation of the Nolanverse, because it would corrupt the continuity established by Nolan, which firmly grounded Batman in reality. If they want to enmesh Batman into the new Superman continuity, then they need to establish a new Batman continuity.

The most sensible way forward would probably be to have Clark Kent in Gotham, investigating the aftermath of an incident involving Batman. Something there gets his attention, and he goes on to deal with it as Superman. Whether or not Batman is aware of Superman's presence, or even of Superman's connection to his actions, would go unresolved.

But I suspect they'll want to have Batman and Superman fighting each other and probably a common enemy.

Maybe I need to change the title of this thread to "The 'Stating The Blindingly Obvious' Thread".

Anyway...

If Gosling was locked in a gym for six months, do you think that would alter your opinion at all? He has been bouncing around my head as a candidate but he is far too small. The brilliant thing about Bale was his commitment to the Batman role and the transformations he put his body through....

The Machinist
BATMAN BEGINS
Rescue Dawn
THE DARK KNIGHT
The Fighter
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Would be good to see another Northern Ireland man kept in the Batman world after Neeson in the Nolanverse, but I think Stevenson is too old - the Nolan trilogy is a complete standalone so I'd be very surprised if there was any continuation or referencing to it.

It's the forced rebootquel to the Dark Knight films being rushed out to act as a sequel to Superman by Michael Bay; all so DC can get in on that Avengers gravy train as fast as possible rather than building up to it over the course of half a dozen films like Marvel did. Doesn't really matter who they get to play him if Marvel beats them into submission on the spot because the public won't buy into it.

Call me when the second sequel comes out and they strap neon to everything.

DC makes good movies, its that they don't make a lot of them. MOST, of the time they MAINLY, make Batman and Superman movies. They have a lot of characters to choose from, I would love to watch a movie based on a villains past vs. reading a novel.

And why hasn't DC opened up to a GOOD vs. game. DC heroes vs mortal kombat was okay. DC vs marvel would shake the earth and both businesses would bring in major dough for the both of them. Even a capcom vs DC would be amazing.

Agreed - it will be a very fast introduction to the new Bruce Wayne/Batman - there should be a Batman movie of its own before this joint SuperBat venture.

No they aren't, how do you figure this? From what you said it sounds like the wild rants of a major Marvel fan rather than an objective comic book fan.

This. I agree.

I'm not a comic fan, but I'm a movie fan. I liked the first two Iron Man movies, Thor was decent, not so keen on Cap or Hulk movies. Avengers was very good, but I thought Rises was excellent. Then Iron Man 3 happened and Marvel have definitely took a step back with that one. Keen to see what the new Thor and Cap movies are like, though.

I like a degree of realism in my movies - I like how there's no invisible Aston Martins in Craig's Bond, and how Nolan wouldn't let anything in the DK trilogy that couldn't be done in reality, and I liked how IM1 and IM2 were similar to DK with money as the only 'superpower'. IM3 was weird and felt like it was in a universe of its own after all the aliens in Avengers and Pearce's villain. I thought Man of Steel was twice the movie IM3 was, except for the excess of lens flare in nearly every shot.

But back on point - I watch a lot of TV Shows these days. Finished The Office (USA) recently, and now working through Breaking Bad, Modern Family, Homeland, and Game of Thrones. Just wondering (not suggesting) if any actors from them could be suitable.

John Krasinski, for example. Thoughts?

I think Eric Bana would be a good fit for the role. 👍

Nice review, but I think I can explain Man of Steel...Zack Snyder is all I have to say when it comes to the asinine uses of certain things. To be honest I don't see anyone from those that could be Batman but certain other characters perhaps. Damian Lewis for example I think could play Guy Gardner more so than Wally West but he's a great actor either way I enjoyed him in NBC's Life.

I've heard that Michael Fassbender and Armie Hammer have a really good shot at it.

Personally, I'd love to see Joe Manganiello get the role. We need an American to play something major again, Brits keep taking all the big ones these days.

But not just because of that of course. He has that '90s Bruce Wayne look about him, which I find to be the most awesome. He's terrific in True Blood and can definitely bring more of an edge to the character. He comes off as really strong and dark just standing still, so I can imagine him being great as Batman.

If his name doesn't ring a bell and you don't watch True Blood you may remember him as Flash Thompson in the first Spiderman movie with Tobey Maguire.

I also think Sean Faris would be an absolutely awesome choice for a younger Caped Crusader.

My weird/longshot picks:
Karl Urban
James Marsden
Bradley Cooper

Fassbender and Marsden - is there not an unwritten/unspoken rule that if you already play a superhero in another movie, it would be a treason of sorts to play a different one in another movie? Especially as both of these play characters in the Marvel universe to make the switch over to DC....

Manganiello looks like a solid candidate.

I have my own issue with someone older than Bale coming in to do it - if this is the start of a series of movies with Batman would it not be logical to have someone young come in? That said, Cory Monteith was 31 but played a teenager in Glee - so a young-looking actor could be good. Faris ticks all the boxes, but is he not the absolute double of Bale?! LOL. The resemblance is uncanny! That may work as a negative for him if they want to make a distinct and clear break from the Nolanverse.

It has been confirmed that Ben Affleck is going to play Batman in the upcoming Man Of Steel sequel

What do you think ?

I don't know what to think. Bale set the bar pretty high, & they could have done a lot worse. But, Affleck already did a superhero movie once & it didn't exactly make any fans of the superhero.

Nope. Nope. Nope.

Pretty good actor and director but he's no Batman. It's like the guy who voices Batman in the new cartoon, also full of "nope".

I don't see how his smug acting style fits with Batman, and I really don't see him throwing down with Superman in any way. Poor choice in my opinion.
