Porsche + Gran Turismo Time Line

-2007 SEMA auto show; Porsche is not in yet. Ferrari is in and Lamborghini is a "maybe".

-May 2008; Porsche hasn't been contacted yet, but Kaz believes they'll have Porsche in Gran Turismo 5. Speaking with the Official PlayStation Magazine, Yamauchi commented, “We’ll have most - no, all of the major manufacturers.”
When pushed to further clarify on the possibility of the Porsche brand appearing in Gran Turismo 5, he simply stated, “probably.”

-October 2008; Kaz has spoken with Porsche and damage is O.K. with them. Negotiations could occur because contracts with other parties had ended. Porsche (that’s right… Porsche) have stated that they do not have a problem with their cars being damaged in the game. From Ahmed: Kaz's response to Lamborghini and Porsche: "the thing is we are working on it , because like the porsche have some contracts with other games manufacturer, and those contracts has just ended so its possible for us now to negotiate."

-August 2009 (GamesCom); Porsche will likely not appear in Gran Turismo 5, signing an exclusive deal elsewhere.

-March 2010 Porsche 918 Spyder apparently running Gran Turismo PSP's navigation map. Nothing becomes of it.

-April 2010 (interview with Auto Express) Are there any car makers that won’t be appearing in GT5 that you’d like to see in GT6?

GT5 will have a few historic models in it, but looking back at automotive history there are a lot of cars that would be nice to have. I couldn’t narrow it down to one manufacturer, but Porsche is definitely at the top of my wish list.

-July 2012 (Spanish PS Blog): Kazunori responds to user-based question. Will we someday see Porsche in GT? Kazunori responds by saying "We can't say no."

Most of the URLs are now lost in the Internet's vacuum (since I composed this original post well over a year ago). But it's interesting to see the timeline.

I tell you what, good links right there. BUT! I've been looking at my Snow Shadow Grey w/black Enkei RP05 V12 Vantage '10 spinning around in Arcade Mode and I'm torn between racing it and looking at it. After 5 minutes, I still haven't decided if I'm going to race it or not. I'm stuck looking at this thing of beauty. The car is flawless. Now, if PD include some racing models of AM, I think I won't miss Porsche(at this moment) at all.

EA have the license. Which sucks, but such is life.

Forza cuts deals with EA to get the cars, so clearly it's possible.
Gran Turismo so far has not. Not because it's not possible, but because they don't want to pay EA's price.

It's really up to PD how valuable they think having Porsches in the series is.

Exactly.
Will they pay tons of money just to get a sublicense for Porsche? We could lose Ferrari or Lamborghini. Or maybe there wouldn't be a GT7.

RUF vehicles, in my opinion, are similar to Porsche and are better than Porsche. Better engine sound, looks, and stock performance stats. If we don't get Porsche, let's just hope there will be more races, more GT Auto features, and interiors for ALL RUF CARS!!!

Probably, not sure what that has to do with it though. It was well known before that book that GT3 featured a Porsche but it was locked away when they didn't get a license.

^agreed. Hence, the cover for GT3 A-spec. Could be interchanged with the Ruf.

I'm watching the History of Porsche on 7mate right now. I just wonder how much PD would have to shell out to put them in the game. If they could only afford the 356/speedster and a 911 that would be good enough to add to the Ruf models.

No,because of Gran Turismos philosophy:everything must be harmonised.Thats not how Porsche sees "real driving". no1 must have its status

Didn't some other software company pay for the "exclusive rights" to the "porsche likeness and name"?

Doesn't that answer the question once and for all?

EA, yes. Doesn't really answer the question once and for all though because as has been covered many times in this thread EA are in a position to sub-license the cars to other developers as they so choose, hence their appearance in the non-EA game Forza.

Say what now?

I think he's trying to say Porsche wants Porsche to be best - which is the attitude that's more typically attributed to Ferrari, if anything.

Considering that company sub-licenses the "Porsche likeness and name" to other companies for use in their racing games, nope!

Drat! (I thought I successfully ended a discussion)

" EA drops gun license...will still use real guns without it"
""We're telling a story and we have a point of view," EA's President of Labels Frank Gibeau, who leads product development of EA's biggest franchises, said in an interview.
"A book doesn't pay for saying the word 'Colt,' for example."
"Put another way, EA is asserting a constitutional free speech right to use trademarks without permission in its ever-more-realistic games."
http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/05/07/videogames-guns-idUSL2N0CS2A220130507

so can PD do this with Porsche the same way EA is doing it with the gun license?
just dont pay and still bring it into the game(like in GT3?)

sorry for my bad englisch

Since VAG owns Porsche now, I'm unsure if Porsche is available to P.D. to decide upon it's inclusion, I'd be happy to see the New GT3 (It will have a Manual option if it does get included), the 917, the 918, 911's 930 through 991 and the Carrera GT (So many Porsches :odd:).

I think this is up to P.D. now (I think they have lot's of money to work with judging by GT5's production of 60$million credits/Dollars ).

Don´t know if these means anything, but yesterday I was looking through the demos from this years E3, noticed Ubisofts new driving game the Crew clearly shows a Cayman to the end of the demo, you can also see a Cayman in the screenshots from the game on Gamespot. This is my first post ever so easy on the incoming guys

What do you think , is it a Porsche or a Ruf ( or Replica ) on the pictures?

Evolution studios confirmed it as a RUF. Still no Porsches.

It only means (assuming it is a Porsche) that EA sublicensed to Ubisoft, a third party developer. Until we see one in a First-Party Sony game, looks like Sony still doesn't have the license to Porsche and for now, it means no Porsche for GT6.

Welcome to the forums

As for your post, all that really means is that Ubisoft has a license to use Porsche.

I would think that PD would make a major announcement if Porsche was to be included in GT6 due to it's exclusion from GT5. That would be a major point to hit on for any fan of the series...

Just watch, PD will suprise us all and not even annouce Porsche in GT6. We will just find out when we head to the dealerships. That would be totally awesome.
