Forza Horizon 3 PC Improves Wheel Compatibility, Lowers Minimum Specs

Following the launch of the weighty Hot Wheels Expansion for Forza Horizon 3, Playground Games has released a significant update for the PC version of the game, introducing welcome changes to players running the game on lower specifications.

The team has targeted more efficient CPU usage, after many PC players found FH3‘s performance limited in that regard. While we haven’t been able to test it ourselves, early reports from the community suggest this has been a success.

The patch also brings with it compatibility for over a dozen steering wheels from Logitech, Fanatec, and Thrustmaster.

The full list of all the improvements includes:

  • Improved CPU Performance – new optimization allows for smoother gameplay at High and Ultra settings for PCs running on recommended or specifications or better
  • Updated Thread Model – new approach improves efficiency of used PC cores. The new model can be disabled in the option menu if necessary
  • More Graphical Options – Very Low option has been added for Dynamic Geometry Quality and World Car Level of Detail to improve framerate on PCs running at minimum specifications
  • New descriptions for all options stating how the game performance is affected when making alterations to each
  • Minimum system requirements have been lowered:
    • CPU: i3-4170 at 3.7 Ghz
    • GPU: NVIDIA GT 740 / AMD R7 250x
    • VRAM: 2GB GDDR5
    • RAM: 8GB
    • Hard Drive Type: HDD
    • Resolution: 1280 x 720
  • The wheel support has been extended:

The new update can be applied to your PC regardless of whether you have installed the latest Hot Wheels Expansion or not.
