Forza Motorsport 6 Garage: Orange You Glad?

4-McLaren-Cars-M8B

McLaren, both the company and the man, need little introduction for automotive enthusiasts. The seminal F1 is arguably the greatest modern supercar, while Bruce’s cars dominated Can-Am in the 60’s, with him behind the wheel for many of the wins. This week, Turn 10 has focused on two of the standout cars from McLaren’s rich history, while also announcing an additional 38 cars for the game’s September 15th release date (or September 10th, if you pre-order digitally).

The 1969 M8B took cues from the contemporary Chaparral 2E, mounting a huge wing directly to the rear suspension, through the bodywork. Teamed with fellow Kiwi Denny Hulme, Bruce’s powerful “Orange Elephants” swept the series that year. With the Chaparral also announced this week, players will be able to relive the rivalry.

McLaren-M2B

Speaking of rivalries, F1 in the late 60’s was full of them. The 1966 M2B may have had a problematic start in real life, with its downsized Indy Ford V8 proving unreliable, but players won’t have to worry about that as they charge towards Eau Rouge, mixing it up with the Brabham and Lotus F1 cars also in the game.

In addition to these two racers, here are the other cars revealed this week:

  • 1997 Volvo 850 R
  • 1995 Ferrari F50
  • 1976 McLaren #11 Marlboro Team McLaren M23

Looks aren’t everything, if the game feels arcady like before, then I’m skipping it and patiently waiting for GT7 while I enjoy GT6, Pcars, AC and Rfactor :)

    1. Tenacious D

It’s not arcadey, it’s just different. People like Tiff Needell have mentioned a flaw or two, and a few pro drivers here at the Planet have detailed the little things wrong with both games. But I’ve seen car behavior back in Forza 4 that only a chosen few PC sims like Live For Speed have exhibited. I think if you could somehow merge the physics engines from GT6 and Forza 5 together, you’d have a simulation which would rival LFS or Race Room.

    2. Johnnypenso

Actually people around here have detailed many major things wrong with the physics of the GT series. You’ll find some of it here for example:
      https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/transition-from-gran-turismo-to-real-life-things-you-need-to-be-aware-of-updated-poll.331717/

The physics of GT are far behind anything on pc. The only place where they are even mentioned as simulation is on console…and only on the PS3. PCars is the physics king on console these days.

  2. Benny44

So is this DLC? Or are we actually going to get to drive these cars out of the box. That’s the reason I spent a total of about 20 hours on FM5. I was not not very happy to see that every cool car was DLC

    1. SlipZtrEm

Every one of the cars so far shown will be in the game from Day 1. The only DLC announced so far has been the Fast & Furious pack – while it’s assumed it’ll be roughly the same as FH2’s, the cars themselves haven’t been confirmed yet.

    1. occasionalracer

Or you could log in when when the first GT7 news bits start being released and then make comparisons/decisions. For me, I quite like the fact we haven’t seen ANY new cars in GT6… it’s almost a promise that a vast array new content has been stored away for the PS4 over the last couple years. GT7 is going to be a banger. Whooo!

    2. occasionalracer

Nothing. Except the small part where you’re required to spend a hefty amount of money to purchase the actual hardware to actually play Forza ‘normally. I know I’m never going back to a pad…

    3. SimTourist

It’s exactly the same with GT7. You’ll need to buy a ps4 and your old wheels won’t work.

    4. occasionalracer

I don’t think that has been absolutely confirmed has it? There are a lot T500 and T300’s out there, me included, and if the new Logitch wheels with it’s identical internal FFB mechanism behave the exact same (which I damn sure hope they don’t and have a revised controller board and position sensors for a higher accuracy in road/car feel), we know they’re toys of last generation in comparison to the Thrustmaster and Fanatec designs.

Of course it boils down to what you want.. PCars and AC having joined the console market has of course made the XB1 decision more worthwhile, IF you have no money invested in USB standard gear. It’s ‘pricy’ no matter what.. but not relatively speaking, just blew $850 on Continental Sport Contact 3’s, hope the T300 investment lasts 5 years without any problems.. *knocks on wood*

  3. Johnnypenso

Ferrari F50 and 312T. McLaren M23. Rolls Royce Wraith. Next gen Supra. 71′ Javelin. 91′ Bugatti. If I didn’t know better I’d say T10 was plugging the holes in GT’s car list and easily covering all the rest of it that is of consequence. This is going to be end up being one heck of a car list.

  4. Tenacious D

I’m amazed how googaa you guys are over this car list. With some exceptions, this is mostly the Forza 4 car list. I mean, yeah it’s a good list, but Turn 10 are just catching up with where they were last gen.

    1. MannYhAvitZ

True it makes sense I guess, but unlike people like me I have never own the XBox and never own a Forza game.

So this is a great time to try Forza out :)

    2. Johnnypenso

I’m amazed you don’t apply the same standard to the GT car list seeing as how over 90% of the GT6 car list was just recycled from older games. Forza appears to be plugging all the gaps in the GT car list. PD has a lot of catching up to do.

    3. SimTourist

Forza 4 is not a bad goal to have considering it still has the best car list of any game. Forza 6 has the potential to be better because the engine now supports open wheelers and T10 seems to be very keen to use this new feature.

    4. Tenacious D

      @Johnny

I do, I do use that same logic when I regard Gran Turismo’s car list. Except while I’m overjoyed to see such an outstanding stable of vehicles returning, I’m always glad to see key wheels making that comeback, like the FT-86 prototype. Of course, what I don’t do is gush over it like it’s a whole new car list.

      Maybe that helps.

    5. Tenacious D

By the way, Forzxa 4 having the best car list of any racer? That’s definitely a matter of personal opinion. To me, even though I like it too, it’s even spottier than GT6’s car list.

    6. SimTourist

Haha, no way man, I’d be hard pressed to name any important cars that aren’t in FM4. With Gt5/6 that task is much easier as there are loads.

    7. Johnnypenso

Is that comic relief @TenD? Your go-to defense whenever you perceive GT/PD under attack is always sales and car count. Once you realize you can’t win over a discussion based on anything meaningful to gameplay, out comes, “they sold 10 million” and “[that game] has a very small car count, GT always has new cars to explore, it’s so wonderful”. I actually think you’re getting jealous of other games now and what they are bringing to the table.

    8. Benny44

FM4 had a pretty good car list, but you had to buy the packs or the pass. I personally prefer GT6’s car list to FM4.

    9. Tenacious D

Oh dear… does someone go into defensive mode whenever someone brings up one of his preciouses? “These bots are the pinnacle of sportsmanlike compettitude… this car list is beyond the need for (much) DLC.” You’re a rich man, Johnny. ;D

Played much GRID Autosport lately, a game you defended tooth and claw?

I comment on Gran Turismo because I think it’s a great series and GT6 is still a good racer, in spite of what his majesty thinks of it. If you don’t like the fact that I like a series, I guess you’re just not going to be too content around here. I mean, after all, this is a GRAN TURISMO site and all, fans do tend to collect here, and remark favorably on the series, go figure. ;D

    10. Tenacious D

And by the way, I actually played the Forza series through four iterations, and hung out on the boards for a good length of time, so I do believe I have more insight on the series than his loftiness.

    11. Terronium-12

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t it you that instigated this by asking why some were so pleased with a list of returning cars not seen since FM4?

      “I comment on Gran Turismo because I think it’s a great series…”

What a coincidence, it’s almost as if people are commenting on this piece of news because they think it’s great news for them being able to again use cars that weren’t included in 5 with the addition of night racing and weather in what they consider a great series — what a shocker.

My point being knock the existential martyr nonsense off, it’s unbearably annoying.

    12. Tenacious D

Now Terro, it’s not martyr nonsense. It’s pointing out a fact. I’d think the “Why are you posting all this Forza crap snews” is more along that line, ya think? ;)

  5. MannYhAvitZ

Oh man!! The list keep getting better and better…. PS4 you will always be my main girl, but I think it’s time to get me a side chick (XBox 1)

  6. TurboProp

I might be getting this game after all with these additions, I swore T10 off after Forza 5. Probably wait for the real world reviews to come out…great times for fans of racing games when you can actually be choosy. Thanks for the write-up SlipZtrEm.

  7. Chikane

While i don’t care about this soulless franchise. I always loved how good there car list always is 10/10. while over at gt’s car list well? Hey look at the time see yea.

  8. RolexToaster

Would be awesome if PD could get a relationship with Porsche like this. Awesome car list so far form Forza 6

  9. Sick Cylinder

Great move to add the McLaren and Chaparral Can Am cars – if they could add cars from Lola and Shadow and maybe the beautiful Ford Honker 2 you could run a really exciting Can Am championship. I’m also very jealous of the game having three 1960’s F1 cars – if GT can’t add F1 cars perhaps they could add the equivalent Tasman series cars.

Some great cars on the list – a shame my wheel isn’t compatible.

  10. TomBrady

Who the hell cares. Does GT Planet just let mods write whatever they want for news articles?

This is GT Planet, keep this nonsense on forza planet

    1. Terronium-12

      1. Obviously you do, otherwise you wouldn’t have commented.
      2. Type ForzaPlanet.net into your address bar, hit enter, and tell me where it takes you.
      3. GTPlanet is not an entity that acts upon itself, thus it doesn’t “let” mods do anything.

Anything else you’d like to say that makes you look utterly foolish or are you done throwing your toys around?

    2. imported_skidmark

GTPLANET needs the hits to stay in the game. How much GT news is there really!? Not a lot…

    3. Master Weasel

@TomBrady: Typical opinated post from you. Clearly, you have a lot difficulty ignoring articles that you aren’t interested in. If it bothers you so much, then make your own Gran Turismo fan site where only GT news is reported. But I gurantee you it won’t be above the quality of GTP.

    4. liv4hardstyle

Bro, seriously? You seem about 6 years old right now.

You are literally fuelling the flame war that is gt/ forza. True racing fans are delighted to have numerous titles to enjoy without the childish bias BS. Lighten up.

    5. SlipZtrEm

It’s amazing a member has had no problem with the numerous pCARS news articles, happily taking part in the conversations for those. But I suppose being consistent is a lot harder than being a hypocrite.

GTPlanet’s blog is widening it’s scope. Don’t like it? Don’t read it.

  11. Waster3000

McLaren CanAm cars… wow. Needless to say, I’d dearly love to see these in GT at some point (but am keeping all hopes firmly grounded). Been lucky enough to see some of these in the flesh (metal?); awesome machines.

    1. SlipZtrEm

Over half of the list is yet to be revealed, though I’d be seriously surprised if all five from Horizon 2 (Fulvia, 037, Stratos, Delta S4 and Integrale) aren’t in.

    2. C-ZETA

Alright. If all five of those are in then I might have to save up for an XBOne. It has two of my favourite Evos too and the X is probably coming as well…and hopefully Forza 4 gets that backwards compatibility too.

    1. nocturnalgrey

Why? Neither of these console “SIM” developers can get everything right, so it’s best to own both consoles that way you don’t miss out.

Start saving your money and you’ll eventually have enough to buy one.
