Gran Turismo 5 Confirmed for Tokyo Game Show

tokyo-game-show-2009-logo

Tensions were high last June at E3, when everyone and their brother expected something about Gran Turismo 5 to be announced at the largest trade show in the gaming industry.  We got a cool trailer, but nothing else about the game was revealed.  Next up was GamesCom, where the first playable version (with damage) was demonstrated.  These delightful tidbits were released despite the fact that the game was not released on Sony’s “official list” of game titles to be highlighted at the show.

That trend is about to change for the upcoming Tokyo Game Show – Sony’s just released their official exhibitor list, with Gran Turismo 5 right in the middle of things.  Kazunori Yamauchi has already confirmed that we can expect a “major advancement” at TGS, and with this new confirmation, we could see more revealed about the game than ever before.  The show begins on September 24 – mark your calendars!

yep. this “console war” will be over THE INSTANT this game is released. For GT5 Prologue please add me:

    PSN:rbdrummer09

I can’t relax if I’m using sixaxis, you have to like sit up straight and all that crap. Its only good for little kids. I wanna see rain and snow :D

  3. Bolg

    @ Mustangmiha

Have you ever tried using Sixaxis on a racing game? it is completey unsuitable, it is only good for small sections on certain games, Gran Turismo has got to be the most inappropriate game to have Sixaxis control.

  4. Matt W.

No, Nomino. I’m only saying that since I own only a ps3, NFS Shift seems like a decent quick fix for someone like me wanting a new racing game. Obviously it is not meant to be anything like a GT level simulation, but at least it is a new racing game with real cars. From all of the reviews I’ve read it is actually really fun to play, which counts for something in my estimation.

As far as losing money goes, I’m not sure what you mean. If I buy NFS full price then trade it in to gamestop, I’ll be paying less than full price for GT5 when it releases. That equals less money put out by me in order to play both games than if I simply kept NFS and paid full price for another game.

TGS can’t get here quick enough.

I’m sorry if I’m bursting anybody’s bubble of happiness or excitement but…didn’t we already knew that GT5 was going to be on TGS before this list by Sony? KZ said it himself! So this isn’t exactly news in my opinion

Well, let’s just wait on details on GT5 now in TGS. I’m betting on a later demo of damage as well as WRC and Nascar footage. And the release date will be shown as well. <—I hope I'm right :P

Two or 3 month ago, i was exited by news!! (and event like E3, gamescom…). Now I want a release and thats all.

Now it’s 2009 Q4… we need more than news.

  7. Mustangmiha

    @Sam_NY

Actually… if you ask me, this seems like very great idea. Like on GTA4, you can steer with Sixaxis, so why wouldn’t steer on GT5 too?

  8. Bolg

    @ Sam_NY

That is most ridiculous thing I’ve heard since someone said they won’t buy GT5 if the crowd noises are the same as in Prologue! Trust me if you buy a DFGT or G25 you will wonder how you ever lived without it.

  9. Sam__ NY

could PD integrate the six axis tech from the dual shock 3 into GT5 (so we could play GT5 wii style). if so, i wouldn’t waste my money on a racing wheel.

I am tired of GT release dates. l had reserved GT2,3,&4 only to have the date pushed back month after month, year after year. I think I’ve spent more than a decade waiting, wonderin’ if Ferraris would be included. I want GT to be released in ’09 like the rest of ya’ll, but past experience tells me to wait, see, wait some more. I’d pray for patience but we all have no choice but to wait. I think I’ll pray for my wallet since to pass the time I’ll debate psp, or slimPS3, G25, or G27.

  11. cobraagent90

@ninja220 Yes Motion Controller will make a second appearance at TGS but I don’t know if they connect it with GT5

  12. oppylocky

funny how this is the same date as the demo for Forza3 is going live. Anyway, GT for PSP will be close to being released and i think K.Y. has spoken about all the he can and he will definitely be really going in-depth as to what this version of GT5 will be offering. I think that the damage model will be a very advanced version this time. I look forward to this but with a pinch of salt. If and I mean a big IF, Kaz and PD don’t deliver enough details than my interest in GT is going to more or less fade and Forza3 wil be getting more of my attention. Let’s hope that ain’t the case eh?

  13. Aaron Jaggan

i cant wait ..seriously!!!I know there is weather coming along because Kaz said in a particular video it will be implemented in the final stages in developing GT5!

  14. caribbean topdriver

clearly chris is a xbox fan, i know them, his negativity gave him away…… i don’t know what would make u think gt is a 2010 release. clearly its december 09 release

  15. Sam__NY

September 24 may be the day GT5 news will be announced, but we (meaning Americans) wont know anything till the 25th. sucks to be the west.

  16. Mustangmiha

    @Bank Alexander

Don’t you think that this became so stupid, we are waiting for new GT since 2007, asking ourselves when is GT5 coming, but I just lost patience. I’ll just stick to my GT4 Prologue. But I’ll get that GT5 anyway.

  17. Dont

Guys like i said a few weeks ago the game is looking like GT5 Pro because i played the demo, it feels like GT5 PRO and the grahpics also. They should bring it November 2010 for sure!

  18. cobraagent90

@Chris Japanese hate Americans for a lot of reasons and why would K.Y. like xbox: Xbox is American, has less power than the Ps3 and has the Forza series.

  19. Jeremy

less than two weeks away I cant wait!

chris, i hope you are being sarcastic. All signs have pointed to a december release.

  20. Chris

Stop getting your hopes up guys. I wish it would be a release date, but it’ll be a car or track list or something like that. This game is next year. Time we faced up to it.

@cobraagent90 are you sure he hates the xbox and forza, or like you said maybe it’s just he works for SONY!!

  21. Matt W.

Until Gran Turismo is out, my need for a new racing fix will be soothed with the new Need for Speed. Yeah, yeah, its arcadey, its this, its that..I know. But it looks great, and theres no doubt I can get at least a few weeks of fun out of it before I sell it to Gamestop and put the credits toward the purchase of GT5. :)

    Onward to December!

  22. cobraagent90

@Context No way they say something like that First of all its the Sony’s press conference so they will talk only about Playstation. SCE also owns PD so there is no way they release it for XBOX. K.Y. hates the XBOX as well as Forza

  23. Sam__ NY

Whats this big advancement gonna be? I hope its something like designing your own race driver avitar, or the radio in the car actually works. or maybe CUSTOMIZATION. 0_o

  24. Zx10rking

This is sounding more and more like we’ll see examples of what they want to do with the game as opposed to ‘here’s the finished product and this is when you can play it’. I’ll eat my hat if we see it released this year :(

  25. cobraagent90

Finally A press conference without the annoying GT PSP. K.Y. WILL TALK ONLY ABOUT GT5 THIS TIME. Thank you… GODS OF GAMING-DRIVING-GRAN TURISMO

  26. Mustangmiha

We can expect “major advancement”, I’m just getting more and more pessimistic. Guys, I feel sorry for ya’… I’m not even anymore very excited about GT5…
