Gran Turismo Makes the Briefest of Cameos in the Latest Wreck-It Ralph 2 Trailer

Gran Turismo is heading to the big screen this autumn! Unfortunately, not in the way you think though. Instead, it’ll have a very brief cameo in the upcoming Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2.

The film is a follow up to the hit Disney film Wreck-it Ralph.

In that film, Ralph is a video game character who’s tired of playing the bad guy. Through a series of misadventures, he travels around the gaming universe and meets a princess. The typical Disney formula ensues and — spoiler alert — Ralph saves the day and helps the princess win a game that combines Candy Crush with Mario Kart.

Throughout the movie, several video game characters make an appearance. There are even more references to other classic games as well. However, one thing missing is a sim racing title.

In the second film, Ralph will break out of the video game once again and head to the internet. This is where we find the Gran Turismo logo floating above a building in a city version of the web.

It’s hard to say what, if any role the plays during the film. But in order to secure the rights to use the logo, Disney had to at least reach out to Polyphony Studios and Sony.

It’s a long shot for sure, but the Gran Turismo series certainly has earned a spot to be part of the movie. With over 80 million copies sold, it’s a juggernaut of a franchise.

Of course, since 2013, there’s been talk of a Gran Turismo film in the works, one that takes inspiration from GT Academy. However, as of February of this year, it looked like it’s probably dead. But at least Wreck-It Ralph 2 allows for a tiny bit of screen time.

Hopefully, GT plays at least some part in the movie. We know Marvel Studios, another Disney entity, knows how to work cars into films, so there’s some hope. But we wouldn’t hold our breaths.

Wreck-It Ralph 2 lands in theatres November 21, just in time for Thanksgiving. You can check out the trailer for the film below. The logo appears around the 46 second mark.
