Gran Turismo TV to End Distribution of Super GT Content

Gran Turismo TV, the online video-on-demand platform which made its debut in GT5 Prologue, will be ending distribution of its “Super GT” content channel, effective 20:00 GMT/UTC on December 31, 2012.

As noted in yesterday’s announcement on Polyphony Digital’s website, viewers who have purchased content from the channel will still be able to view it for up to 365 days from the date of purchase.

Featuring over 19 pay-per-view videos, the channel featured races from the 2007, 2008, and 2009 Super GT championship rounds.

As the largest channel on the service, it will significantly reduce GTTV’s library of third-party content.

My GT TV did not have this in the catalog. It’s only GT related videos and untranslated Japanese videos.

There you have it… over priced and didn’t know it exsisted. I just didn’t dig the look of the cars. No sex appeal. Anyway, if Playstation had provided more directly corresponded content ie. video of GT5 cars real and/or simulated, I would have been more interested.

Actual video of real GT5 cars’ lap times and stint durations would have really peeked my interests. Was Kaz’s last N24 whip really a fixed wing contraption? Was it Kaz’s own setup or team setup? My point exactly. Playstation’s GT5 influenced TV programming should have been FREE and more INFORMATIVE. Nice try guys. Don’t be discouraged. GT fanboys just need to know what their cars are really capable of.

I agree, and I mean why would I pay-per-view for something on Gran Turismo tv when I can get all that and more and watch it whenever / as much as I want for free online. I didn’t even know this had Super GT and I’m probably one of those who totally discards or has forgotten about the GTTV thing. Some free inboard videos of GT5 cars turning real lap times at tracks I the game would be real cool though.

No real advantage to this so I do sorta agree with many others about not really missing it. Video at Concorde De Elegance or the Nurburgring videos were fine, but the Super GT ones were just questionable from the start. If they would have been highlights of 2010. 2011 and 2012 seasons added after each race instead of the 2006-2008 seasons (which I’m sure most of us had already watched before hand), then it would have actually been useful. Hopefully, thats what they do with GT6 if GT TV makes a return.

I never really understood why people bought these videos? Why pay $5.99 or a video I can watch on Youtube for free? *Shrugs*

  5. Hentis

At the end of the day how many people have paid for and downloaded the stuff. I only used and downloaded the free stuff, Im not going to pay to have something taking up space on my disc drive a year after I have paid for it and not acess it. I dont work that way.

GT TV is a wonderful idea. However, this service did better in Prologue than now.

We need more variety and exclusive content that justifies paying money for it.

  7. SimonK

It was never a good idea, if I want to watch motorsport I’m not going to fire up my PS3 and load GT5 to do so and I certainly ain’t going to pay to rent them for a year.

Also it’s nice to see a picture of GT500 cars in all their glory, as appose to being standard cars (yes I know that is a real life picture).

I will say that the free N24 mini-documentary was pretty good and informative. I’ve checked out a small amount of the small amount of free content, and some of it is cool. I’m sure the priced content is good as well, but I don’t feel like paying for it at all.

They should focus on the Super GT cars in terms of actually making them for the game. GT TV wasn’t free so it was a waste of time to me

    1. MeanElf

I would say that different people at PD were responsible for maintaining this, not the ones creating the cars for the game…

    2. RACECAR

Pretty sure it wasn’t PD who licensed that content while they were making the cars for the game. Licensing content and modelling cars aren’t all done by the same people at the same time.

  11. Blank_Redge

As a concept, I thought Gran Turismo TV was fantastic, but Kaz + Polyphony need to be more aggressive with obtaining licensing to put more content on there. As noted by Fisha695, the current content is left wanting.

    1. SKOT_FREE

it was waaaaaay overpriced. Even the Best motoring stuff which is very old I had bought years ago on DVD for 4.00 a Disk.

So it’s newest content is on the verge of being 4 years old… Why pay for it when you can watch most if not all of it for free on Youtube or various other places?
