GT5’s FR Challenge Seasonal Event Brings Five New Races

A large new set of A-Spec races have now been included in GT5’s Seasonal Events, featuring front-engine, rear-wheel-drive cars with no more than 500PP.

Note that the game’s new Performance Difference Bonus, introduced in update 2.06, applies to these events, so you will receive greater reward for winning a race with an underpowered car. Here’s a closer look at the races:

  • Cape Ring Inner / 7 Laps
    1st: Cr.151,100  2nd: Cr.83,105  3rd: Cr.60,440
  • High Speed Ring / 5 Laps
    1st: Cr.177,000  2nd: Cr.97,350  3rd: Cr.70,800
  • Autumn Ring / 5 Laps
    1st: Cr.135,600  2nd: Cr.74,580  3rd: Cr.54,240
  • Tokyo Route 246 / 5 Laps
    1st: Cr.201,700  2nd: Cr.110,935  3rd: Cr.80,680
  • Aso (Pavement) 104A / 7 Laps
    1st: Cr.179,000  2nd: Cr.98,450  3rd: Cr.71,600

The game’s Online Collector’s Dealership has also been updated with a wide selection of Chevrolets; you can see the complete list of new inventory right here. As always, head over to our GT5 Seasonal Events forum for more analysis and discussion. Thanks to tazmanuk for the tip!

A bit too easy perhaps. Still a lot of fun and PD you are doing an awesome job with these seasonals!!!

  2. tralfezz

I have tried it with the Maserati GT, GT 350z, and a few others bu they cant handle some of the turns on the first race and i really want to beat it so any suggestions would be appreciated!

  3. Flagmo-T

Ohhh man i’m so tired of the PP is going over the amount that has been set in the settings, after a race.

Do You know what I’m referring to ? –

I use the the Power limiter to lower the PP to match Ex: 500 PP, and dammit i keeps going going back to 501pp and then i have to spend annoying time on setting it back again, just because i set it to the click, just before it changes to 501pp.

SO maybe warm tires after a Race makes the pp go 1 click up, or ? If that’s so – Then it’s just stupid and annoying, it kills my concentration ‘Me thinks..

K.Y/PD Fix iT!! Please pretty please Mr.. I’ll send you tons of Heart’N’ Kisses :o)

    1. CanAm1968

@Flagmo – I think if youre so frustrated about being at 500pp…and then being bumped to 501pp after competing and having to take time to readjust the settings…..perhaps you should start at 495pp….so when it increases 1pp after the race….you dont have to do anything….jus sayin!!!!

I personally love this Performance Difference Bonus….and so do my credits. It definitely makes the racing interesting competing with a handicapped car. This is good for the GT fans who are a bit antisocial….and prefer to race the games AI competitors vs an online competitor.

    2. Flagmo-T

Sure M8 – That is the solution – But still i don’t see the point, that the game doesn’t keep the setting, unless there is a Car kind a technical answers, which i will respect as being a feature, But to me it just seems like a Bug..

I also like to keep the race more challenged, but with this particular event with this car, i needed the full load hehe, and finally got gold, with out driving like a sick moron, but instead like a hungry Race Driver ..

But I do like your respectful answer my Fellow Race driver, must be our Age man – I’m a 1961’ner Hehe :o)

    3. Dazmeister22

I reckon it’s because you’re using a fairly new car and it’s gainnig maybe 1 or 2 bhp as it’s being run-in. If you use a car that has over 300 miles or so on the clock this shouldn’t happen. It’s not a glitch or a bug, it’s a feature of the game that allows new cars to gain bhp as they get run-in, just like in real life. For example, I bought a brand new Lotus Elise 111R and RM’d it, then did all the performance upgrades. It started off at 309bhp, now with around 200 miles on the clock it has 318bhp.

    4. Flagmo-T

Thanks Daz :o) And Yes I was using a totally new car, and I Suddenly feel so enlightened by you guys Feedback – And I will have to redraw my apparently stupid ignorant comment ( if i could )

Actually!! It’s amazing/Clever that this feature is a part of the Game – And It’s in place that i apologize for my outrage Mr K.Y – I was the one with a Minor Bug installed, and did needed a wordy Update from my Fellow Racers!! :)

Cheers Guys And Happy Racing :o)

      Flagmo-T Aka Team_MoFF-No2 ..

    5. Pit Crew

lol flagmo, may as wel tell ya this too, dont give car an oil change should you buy another new one and want to continue doing these events and pushing limits of the PDB.

    6. Flagmo-T

ThanKS PitCrew :o) ALways good with a good laugh :P But wouldn’t a oil change, slowly lower the pp, meaning the new oli get old and dirty .. ? But i Hear ya – Don’t do the obvious thing :P..

    7. Pit Crew

@Flagmo-T Oil wont begin to start getting dirty and subsequently affect the PP of the car(no Miles) till 180 miles though i change oil on my cars every 100 miles, but i race online so i gotta do it sooner considering i dont know what my cronies have cooked up for the lounge. change oil at 180 miles and, in my opinion you dont have to rebuild the engine at the 200 mile mark as i have brought some 3,000 mile used cars that need it more then a car you have broken in. now for any other occasion i say change oil when u first buy no miles car, however for these PDB seasonals i say just to keep from gaining PP so you can strive for the big money, only for those cars, no oil change first. good hunting bro :)

    8. Pit Crew

@ Flagmo-T Oh yeah, in case you didnt know No Miles cars purchased in the Online Car Dealership (OCD) do not require an oil change after initial purchase and full tune. the break in mileage is already accounted for. still change oil evry 150 to 200 miles or when power loss seems present.

  4. danger23

i have one question,i.d.k. if anybody notice thought but i was driving the mustang premium and the driver doesn’t shift gears like the other premium cars cockpit view.let me know if anybody notice it.

  5. Lambob

the Mt Aso, best track next to Nordschleife in GT5, as it offers fantastic force feedback sensations, better than most premium tracks.

    1. Flagmo-T

I really agree on that – It’s great for racing, and sunday strolling hehe – I don’t own a License and car, so i get my Driving through Race games like GT5 – It Could be fun to have a Night version of this track, with Street lights in Yellow color, then It’s like driving in the country, well of course there are Not many farm buildings and Animals around But Still hehe….

Maybe a 8 person server, with 4 cars starting in each direction, then it’s the ultimate Country strolling trip, with a picnic in the Pit :P

  6. Jaycue58

Ok guys ive trawled throo most of your comments has ne body completed all 5 challenges with one car dialed to 450pp or is it a case of horses for courses and no one car can do this, thought ToyotaGT would do it. but not high speed ring !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Pit Crew

Horses for courses is mostly true at high sped ring but also, just like daytona in the last PDB seasonal, tweek the trans but dont overtune it. remember work within the boundaries of the vehicles power to weight ratio, and check typical opponents pp and power to weight to find a good car and tune application.

  7. Pit Crew

It would seem that someone at PD is listening to us, as far as these seasonal events are concerned. Sure we may see a Bspec Next week , but This new implementation of the PDB is great and shows that positive criticism is getting their attention. They are trying. Give them the benefit of the doubt as there is still a team working with this game to give us the most capable and enjoyable Racing experience we can get from this almost 2yr old game that they can, given what they are working with, at this point in the games history.

By the vitrial that resides in some posts here, it is obvious that there is a part of the learning curve for this game that some havent overcome as there strongest argument is to constantly bring up the games short comings and then immediately comparing it to forza titles. I wouldnt need to justify playting forza over gt5 by commenting bout it on this website (especially since there is a Forza link on the main forums page) and instead would just “Do Me” and play forza and give the accolades to that title on their website. I dont have forza so i cant be impartial enuff but i can say if that experience works for you then leave us GT5ers out of that decision and dig in to FM4 with all the motivation you can muster.

PD wants ideas and I say we give it to them, positively with as much detail as possible. Im pushin for Day night Seasonals and a SuperDrift challenge myself. I know better ideas exist, so while they are fresh in our minds just throw them out there and dont give PD a chance to rest on their morals. Keep them busy reading our posted ideas and hope they take more conceivable increments from those suggestions to keep our GT5 experience fresh.

PS This does post does not consider ideas/suggestions/request/pleading, for DLC content. Im staying away from that until I see definitive info that a DLC pack is even in the works or being considered.

  8. MartyMo

I used the Amuse 380RS Superleggera to blow through these events, and won the tricked out white Camaro. Now I’ll start dialing back the PP for increased credits :)

  9. cone

Just did it in a tuned volvo 240 glt estate ’88, 448pp, just need a caravan on the back and im done ha ha

  10. lemans2005

    A little off-topic here…

I pick up GT PSP again this few days, and I found out the AI in GT PSP is so much fun to against. I hope GT5 or later GT series will have such competitive AI.

Also, please bring back the grid start!

    1. darkpigraph

I have to kind of agree with you. Even though you only race against three cars and i’m sure there’s some rubberbanding with the AI, the races always feel close and tense. GT PSP is a good little game, really having a lot of fun with it. And without it i would never have discovered that that HPA-tuned golf IV is an absolute beast!

  11. shadowtsunami

Update as I taught the Mugen S2K can beat them on Mt. Aso with ease at 400p. Just made a cool mil+. I think I won by about 12 secs. About to do it at 350 pp lol. Might even use an even slower car.

  12. Elitekilla29

The seasonal events looks great. And the ocd update is all chevys. I just about own all of the corvettes. Just missing one more and thats the 56 corvette convertible.

  13. shadowtsunami

Mugen S2000 ’00 can do them all virtually stock. I only added the Twin Clutch plate, Semi Racing Flywheel, and the carbon Drive shaft. It kills anything at Mt. Aso. I won by like 20secs. Everything else is relatively easy. The PP is only 433. I going to lower it at Mt. Aso though to probably 400 to see what happens. Mt. Aso feels like a rollercoaster though lol.

  14. Scuderia Paul

The Mt Aso race was fantastic in my stock Nissan 370Z. The tyres chirping away as you power through the steep and slightly off-camber turn 1 was my highlight. Also, the last corner which was completely blind and endless with serious negative camber was fun.

  15. R34EVO9

I did them all in my s15 and won by atleast 10 -15 seconds on each.. Easy money….Lame AI,… Boring-est 500pp rwd races i ever had

    1. MyFavoriteGame

“GT5” its only fun when you severely handicap yourself. Are there any other video games like that BTW? I don’t know of any.

    2. USARMYCOMBATVET

Have you heard of the Performance Difference adjustment? Can you win with a 400PP car? 380PP? 350PP? The only thing that’s lame is your attitude.

    3. Pit Crew

take any oppurtunity to criticize, though you didnt even try to challenge yourself. tell you what use a slower car like say 390 400 pp FR car, then comeback here and comment. thats what the PDBis there for, and thats one of the many wants alot of gt5ers have requested, being able to make the races harder so they can challenge themselves better. if u just gonna go against the ai in the same PP rated car as the seasonal dictates, then yeah its gonna be pretty easy. so far i (and others) have used mutliple sub 450 pp cars for this challenge (trying 5 different cars for all 5 tracks myself) and its quite fun using a 90 percent stock car and dialing back engine power or adding weight to make it more technique savy. join us.

  16. hennessey86

how about actually giving us a challenge PD, honestly I am playing GT5 about once a month now. Forza 4 owns it

    1. Dekropttiv

Yep i play gt5 maybe once a month just to drift every now and then. If the logitech g27 was compatible with Forza 4 id say good bye to gt5. Gt6 needs to be a giant leap forward.

    2. TomBrady

Why? Cuz you can’t put a V12 in a mini and put 3000 racing stripes on it?

      Realism > Customization.

And you call forza a challenge? LOL I thought GT5s AI was easy, but forza’s takes the cake.

Here’s a hint: STOP USING BETTER TIRES THAN THE AI!!!!

Plus, there are 1000 cars, and tuning is allowed. These races are as easy as you make it. They’re trying to give people of varying skills a chance to win, excuse them for doing so.

    3. another_jakhole

“These races are as easy as you make it. They’re trying to give people of varying skills a chance to win, excuse them for doing so.”

      Exactly right.

Click on “Average Gold Ranking” (http://eu.gran-turismo.com/gb/academy/2012/trophy_ranking/) and look where the United States is in comparison to the rest of the countries. I expected us to be somewhere in the 20s. The fact that there are so many people here that have attempted and weren’t able to get gold tells me that there are/were way more casuals playing GT5 than I thought. Not everybody is above average at sim-like video games, or video games in general.

    4. another_jakhole

Good lord, we’re second at “Total Gold Rankings”, but not even close with the average.

    5. Quakebass

      @TomBrady:

Well, actually, engine swaps would be nice… their a pretty large part of car culture. Though swapping a mini engine with a V12 would be HILARIOUS. We’ve got realism down pretty well here in GT5… so customization is a realistic want; Lets put it into a “math equation” of sorts: Realism X Customization = Product.
(These numbers aren’t depicting actual physical content/product)
      GT5’s equation:
      1,500X100 = 150,000
      Forza’s Equation:
      300X500 = 150,000

Which numbers would better increase the product if one side were to increase? The customization; more things to do with the large realism. With Forza, better realism gives you a better environment to do things with the massive amount of content you created. THAT’S why customization is a good idea, but there’s many, MANY things that GT could use.

But yes, there ARE things YOU can do to make the experience more fun, so hennessey86, you have options, and thse options now give you a win-win situation with the performance difference bonus system.

      @another_jakhole:

I know. That data makes me one depressed American… So out of nearly a MILLION people now, we’ve only averaged beating round ONE? (Maybe plus a bronze medal…?) It’s SO sad.

    6. MyFavoriteGame

@Tombrady – Forzas AI is VERRYYY difficult, you clearly haven’t played the game. One of my many complaints with the game is the huge gap between “medium” and “hard” difficulties .

  17. damian31

What car is the best for this I made it with a Ford Mustang SVT R stock. But not the High Speed Ring

    1. USARMYCOMBATVET

SUPRA SZ-R @480PP for high speed ring should do the trick. If you need my tune, feel free to PM me.

    2. Pit Crew

Stock SVT R should be more then enuff to win HighSpeed Ring. if you are familiar with Muscle car Races online at Daytona, then use a portion of that tune for the high speed ring race. I would add the fc transmission for drafting/overtake but its power to weight ratio is better then many of your ai competition with exception of the shelby series 1.

  18. HuskyGT

Thanks, PD. But will you please raise the PP to 580? You seem to be obssesed with 500pp. I can’t use some of my cars because of this, even if they are almost stock.

    1. USARMYCOMBATVET

Have you tried lowering the PP with the power limiter? If you get oversteer adjust your suspension accordingly(depending on your car).

  19. Swagger897

I would like an all lmp, gt2 series seasonal event at LeMans. because, ya know, IT’S NEXT WEEKEND!!!! That would be just fantastic… Since they did it for the Nurb 24.. HP for Lmp 1 should be 650, and Lmp2 should be 700. Gt2 should be around 500-400. I dunno but I don’t think there is anyone out there who wants the R18 Ultra any more than me… It would also be nice to see them put the Toyota TS030 Hybrid in there to compete, but it should definitely not win.. Starting HP for the ultra should be 540 at 940 kilos, since that is the current regulations.

    Who else agrees?

    1. advent

That would be awesome!….or would have been awesome if it was this week as i’m driving down to Le Mans with a mate on Thursday morning next week. Hoping to get a closer look at the Deltawing if it’s still racing there….Will be good to see the GT Acadamy guys in action too.

There is usually a Gran Turismo stand there where you can try and post your best lap on the circuit….last time I had a go I had had a few beers and it didn’t work out too well lol… You know the situation when you think you’re going to show a thing or two to the on-lookers?….. but end up looking like you’ve never driven a car before?…. sadly, that was me lol. Was good fun though.

    1. advent

lol… I really hope PD create some similar circuits to Nordschleife in GT6. It’s pretty much the only track I choose to play now, other than the Le Mans circuits. I saw a trailer for Forza Horizons yesterday, and although I prefer GT by a fair margin, I have to say that the open world concept looks pretty good… If you could couple this concept with GT physics and graphics…. WOW! It’s a pity that PD won’t follow this idea as they like to keep racing on the track :(

    2. TomBrady

You mean like a nurburgring like GT original track for GT6? That would be awesome. They’re really good at making originals (other than cape ring). Actually they’re by far the best at making originals (Fujimi Kaido is pretty awesome, but otherwise turn 10 can’t even hold a candle to PD in track design).

If they really attempted to make their own nordschliefe or a touge track, it would incredible.

Horizon looks ok but it’ll be tough to top TDU 1 (not 2). TDU 1 still is the best in my book, mainly because of the physics really are that awesome (which they botched in TDU 2 kind of)

  20. USARMYCOMBATVET

Tokyo R246 has insane payout with a 450PP car! I’ll be using the Supra RZ ’97. (Still working on a tune…)

  21. Malc01

Hi all – what tyres are the AI running for this one? Sports Hard again? or something more sticky :D

    1. mercgoat

Idk but that that Shelby series one that quicky pulls away from the other 11 cars acts like its on much softer tires

    2. TomBrady

Just enter a race, drive for a minute, then exit, watch replay, switch to an AI driver. I think it’ll either be SH or SS as always. Unlike the people in online lobbies, Bob knows putting racing tires on street cars is a total noob move lol

  22. hazellnut134

I had an idea; how about a RWD and RR challenge? As far as I know there’s never been one before. Imagine attempting it with a yellow bird.

    1. mercgoat

They did a ff/fr/4wd with no mr before when these types of races first started so I hope so too, but this is pd and they strive to confuse. 4WD will be nice as there is no 4wd challenge in a-spec since the last one was taken down. That was the worse seasonal loss besides maybe the Ferrari F1 a specs. Would be cool for these to return too, but doubt it with the performance difference pp money.

    1. Azura

Well, I’m pretty sure any car at 500 pp can easily win, the fun part is seeing how low you can tune your car and still win. Plus you get way more $$$$ or should I say cr.

    2. mercgoat

Any 500 pp car can win anywhere until that series one shows up. If you are trying out a weaker car to get it some wins or whatever reason you have pretty much already lost.

    3. Dazmeister22

Not necessarily. I won at Cape Ring and High Speed ring in a stock Honda S2000 ’06 @ 426pp and got around 830000 credits and the Shelby Series One was leading.

    4. advent

DAzmeister – that must have been a close finish. I used the Spoon S2000 at 455pp and overtook the Shelby just before the tight chicane before the start/finish straight.

    5. TomBrady

Won easily? What tires were you using?

When are people gonna learn, you’re not meant to use better tires than the AI. Everybody complains about how slow or how early AI brakes, it’s because you’re using better tires. Trust me, use the same tires and the AI is not only much better, but it’s a more realistic race

    6. Dazmeister22

No, it wasn’t easy by any means. I only passed the Shelby on the last turn. I was using Sports Mediums. You can’t afford to get held up by any of the AI cars on your charge to the front, it’s a good challenge though.

  23. sandwiches

nicely. when is there gonna be an endurance challenge ? would be nice to have tyre wear and damage come into this at some point. these 5 lap races are fairly boring..
nice job on this weeks though

    1. Quakebass

Not if you’ve got a 200% bonus, and you use an underpowered car for the Performance Difference Bonus…

  24. BWX

This’ll be a good way to test my new Fanatec CSR wheel and CSR Elite pedals (and shifters), coming tomorrow!!! I think I’ll wait to do these until new wheel is set up.

  25. skyrunr10k

One of my favorite seasonal’s yet, followed by the GTR, F1, and the Nurbergring /D street 500pp. The pro seasonal events SIMPLY MUST ADD tire wear, shortcut penalties, light damage, and only allow in-car view(some cars have limited visibility which is part of the experience IMO). Otherwise it is too easy, and still feels like an arcade game! This one will be tricky to drop the PP and really makes a wheel shine. I used the ISF for the first time around, but plan on going back through with some noisy American muscle for sure!

    1. add

What is wrong with bumper cam ?
IMO when using my wheel and keeping a 1,2m distance from my TV it is closest to real life.
I don’t use cockpit because then I’m looking at 2 wheels

    2. another_jakhole

“(some cars have limited visibility which is part of the experience IMO). Otherwise it is too easy, and still feels like an arcade game.”
I agree, but clearly, it wouldn’t be right to force it onto the people that don’t use that view.

    3. HighPlainsDrftr

Just as I get my log in up to 200%, yay (after working a race over the weekend, yay also)!

    4. skyrunr10k

LOL, the fact that it is called bumper can doesn’t help. I’ll admit that I use it for Academy because it is an advantage and I am not a serious competitor in the running. I can judge a car around small tracks better in car and the sounds as well as weight shift effects are also much more realistic with dashboard view. I also like that it always has a review mirror because the ZR1 09 RM Vette does not in dashboard view. I played in my living room for a while and used that view, but I couldn’t easily read any of the text throughout the game.

    1. advent

Will give that a try. I used the spoon S2000 on 455pp which worked a treat. 280 bhp and 1100 kg (or thereabouts)

  26. Lambob

they should have included the Nurburgring Nordschleife track at 500pp, I mean, this is 85% of the online experience at that pp level, and FR.

not all your audience can muster that track at 650 pp against 9 of the 12 AI that serve as bowling ball gutters for you, while the top 3 cars are pulling away fast.

meh, I still love GT5. cheers.

  27. travis617

Does this expire? I am in the middle of an endurance race and it may be some time before I finish it.

    1. another_jakhole

:) I have to say that I probably wouldn’t have fully understood the joke had I not seen the movie a week ago.

    1. Pit Crew

use same cars you are competing against, just drop pp to acceptable level . infinitii concept coupe 454 pp no oil change,fc trasmission is sufficient .

    1. rallymorten

I know, was meant more like a joke or just a guess rather than me actually gambling money on it :)

    1. skyrunr10k

I already had one too. IMO They should do a similar level coupon or at least something from the used car market. At least give it a custom paint job and chip. The first thing I thought was that it would have a custom paint job. Then we’d all go race it online to show it off. They could also make the car that is one a good selection for the next seasonal to tie everything together.
