Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.32: Four New Cars, New Races, New Scapes

Polyphony Digital has revealed the contents of the update coming this Thursday, April 27, with its traditional pre-update blog post and video.

Naturally we already knew a good chunk of what the update would bring thanks to clues earlier in the month, but the official confirmation gives more specific information as well as highlighting some other new features beside cars.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.32: New Cars

We did say a few months ago that players should pencil in the Jaguar XJ220 and act shocked when it arrives, so here’s your chance as the biggest, fastest cat is coming back to the GT series this week.

  • Dallara Super Formula SF23/Honda 2023 – Brand Central
  • Dallara Super Formula SF23/Toyota 2023 – Brand Central
  • Jaguar XJ220 1992 – Legends Cars
  • Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo 2020 – Brand Central

Once the fastest production road car in the world — the name hints at the targeted maximum speed — the XJ220 was mired in controversy as Jaguar switched from a planned all-wheel drive monster with a V12 Le Mans engine (the prototype you can see at the British Motor Museum is equipped as such) to a rear-drive, twin-turbo V6, leading to a lot of cancellations among customers who’d paid deposits for the former.

Nonetheless, the XJ220 was still an impressive all-round supercar and briefly held the production car speed record at 212mph before the McLaren F1 came along. It also had its own racing game: Jaguar XJ220.

The Jaguar is the only road car this month, with three racing cars also in the mix. Firstly we have a rare, updated, official GT3 race car in the shape of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.

This redesigned model of the successful GT3 racer focused on making the car more efficient, more robust, and cheaper to run, to allow customer teams more freedom to race it in various GT3 endurance events. It brings a similarly updated design to the road car on which it’s based, which become more obvious when you park it next to the 2016 N24-winning Black Falcon car already in the game.

Finally there’s the two new Super Formula cars we’ve been aware of for just under a month now. These are also updated vehicles, based on the SF19, but with changes to make the cars easier to follow at speeds and lower their environmental impact as part of the “Next50” plan. Curiously they’re flagged as “Dallara” in the update articles, appropriate to the chassis manufacturer, rather than the “Super Formula” brand already in the game.

Prices are not yet known for the four cars, but we’d estimate around 1,000,000cr each for the SF23s, between 450,000cr and 800,000cr for the Mercedes, and somewhere in the region of 500,000cr for the XJ220.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.32: New Events

Along with the new Super Formula cars there’ll be new Super Formula races added to the World Circuits menus. There’s no further details on this at present — we’ll have to wait until the patch notes — but if we were guessing we’d expect some 8-10 lap races at the circuits in the game already that are on the Super Formula calendar in the real world: Autopolis, Fuji, and Suzuka. Prize money is also not known at this time.

GT Cafe will also expand with some new Extra Menu Books. Extra Menu 20 will require you to collect three cars wearing Shelby badges, while Extra Menu 21 involves collecting three Alpine vehicles. You’ll need to have a relatively high collector level already (41 and 35 respectively), and prizes for completion aren’t stated but will probably be high-level Roulette Tickets.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.32: New Scapes

Another 45 new Scapes locations have been added to the game, visiting sites almost on opposite sides of the world.

Miyazaki, one of Japan’s southernmost prefectures and located on Kyushu island, will host 20 new locations. Around a sixth of the prefecture’s land area is designated as natural parks, including the protected national park Kirishima-Kinkowan.

The second location is in the United Kingdom, in North Yorkshire. This is the largest county in the UK and hosts its own national park: the North York Moors. Indeed you might recognize it from some of the images in GTPlanet’s car reviews…

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.32: Other New Features

Nothing else is specifically mentioned in today’s notice, but we did catch one item of interest which you can see in the image above: Fuji Speedway appears to have had an environment update, with the new Hyatt Fuji Speedway Hotel appearing.

Of course we were expecting one environment update, with Deep Forest being decked out in Olympic logos for the Olympic Esport Series which begins this week, but the new building shown above at Fuji has come as something of a surprise.

We’d also expect new engine swaps to be available — no doubt many will be hoping for a Jaguar XJR-9 swap for the XJ220! — although these are never mentioned even in the patch notes, and are uncovered by the GT community.

As for further tweaks, we’ll have to wait for the update itself — scheduled for 0600-0800 UTC on Thursday April 27 — to find out more, so watch this space!
